Save up to $500 on tech from Apple, Anker, Dyson, Shark and others

by admin August 27, 2025

Labor Day may bring about the unofficial end to summer, but on the bright side, it can be a good time to save on tech. While seasonal holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day aren’t the boon for tech deals as Prime Day or Black Friday can be, you can still find some good deals across the web. That’s particularly true if you’re going back to school soon, or are shopping for someone imminently heading back to campus.

Engadget has you covered for all of the best Labor Day sales on tech. Since this time of year does overlap with the back-to-school season, students should be first in line to check out these deals. If you need some new gadgets for college, or refreshed tech to help you out in your first job after graduating, now’s the time to see if you can get it for less. Student discounts are handy and exclusive to those who can prove their student status, but the good thing about Labor Day sales is that anyone can take advantage of them — student ID not required.

Best Labor Day sales: Engadget’s top picks

Apple

Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, M4) for $799 ($200 off): Apple’s latest MacBook Air is the top pick in our guide to the best laptops, and it earned a score of 92 in our review. The M4 model isn’t a major refresh overall, but that’s not a bad thing — the design remains exceptionally thin, light and well-built, with long battery life and a top-notch keyboard and trackpad. Now it’s a bit faster thanks to the updated chipset.

Apple iPad (11-inch, A16) for $299 ($50 off): Apple’s entry-level iPad is, unsurprisingly, the best iPad option for those on a budget. It has solid performance thanks to the A16 chipset, 128GB of storage in the base model and good battery life.

Apple iPad Air (11-inch, M3) for $449 ($150 off): The latest iPad Air is a relatively minor update; the only big addition is a more powerful M3 chip. However, we still recommend this iPad over the base model in our iPad buying guide: Its display is more color-rich and better at fending off glare, its speakers are more robust, it works with Apple’s best accessories and its performance should hold up better in the years ahead.

Amazon Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) for $220 ($30 off): This is the latest version of Amazon’s color ereader that has half of the storage of the original model, but otherwise functions the same. That makes it a little cheaper to start off, but you’re still getting a 7-inch color e-paper display, full access to the Kindle shop and a waterproof design. We also appreciate that the Colorsoft comes with no lockscreen ads by default.

Google Pixel 10 smartphone + $100 Amazon gift card for $799 ($100 off): More of a pre-order deal than a Labor Day deal, this bundle includes a free gift card when you order the latest Google Pixel phone in advance. You’ll find different gift card deals at Amazon depending on which phone you go with: the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL have a $200 gift cards included, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes with a free $300 gift card.

Eufy 11S Max robot vacuum for $159 (43 percent off): This model is one of our favorite budget robot vacuums thanks to its slim design that lets you get underneath furniture more easily and strong suction power for its size. Note that it does not have Wi-Fi connectivity, but it comes with a remote that lets you control the robot to your liking.

Shark AI Ultra robot vacuum for $298 (50 percent off): This Shark robot vacuum is a version of one of our favorites and it comes with a auto-empty base that can hold up to 60 days worth of debris. It has strong suction power and home mapping capabilities, so you can tailor cleaning jobs to your liking in addition to putting the robot on a cleaning schedule.

Dyson 360 Vis Nav robot vacuum for $500 ($500 off): Dyson made one of the most impressive robovacs with the 360 Vis Nav. It has some of the strongest suction power of any robot vacuum I’ve tried, and its impressive obstacle avoidance allows it to move around furniture and other objects with basically not intervention from humans necessary.

Blink Outdoor 4 security cameras (3 camera system) for $100 (47 percent off): Some of our favorite security cameras, Blink Outdoor 4 devices support 1080p video, two-way talk, motion alerts and night vision. The most convenient thing about these is that they’re totally wireless and run on AA batteries that can last up to two years before you need to replace them. That combined with their weather-proof design allows you to place them both inside and outside.

Cosori 9-in-1 air fryer for $90 (25 percent off): One of our picks for the best air fryers, this Cosori model has a spacious six-quart cooking basket and nine prep modes to choose from. In our testing, it consistently crisped up all kinds of foods, from frozen appetizers to raw proteins, and it has a nifty safety feature with its built-in basket release button.

HORI Piranha Plant camera for Switch 2 for $40 (33 percent off): If you plan on taking advantage of the Switch 2’s video and group chat feature, there’s no cuter way to do it than with this Piranha Plant camera. In addition to using it with the pot as a stand, the plant itself detaches from the pot so you can use the camera in portable mode with the USB port on the new console.

ESPN Unlimited with Disney+ and Hulu (with ads) for $30/month ($6/month off): ESPN’s new streaming service is officially available now, and new subscribers can get Disney+ and Hulu included for one year when they sign up. The regular price of the new ESPN Unlimited plan is $30 per month, but this bundle offer throws in Disney+ and Hulu (with ads) for one year at no extra cost. If you want to break it down, you’re essentially getting each of the three services for $10 monthly with this offer.

NordVPN deal — Get up to 77 percent off two-year plans: Most of NordVPN’s two-year plans are on sale right now. You’ll get 77 percent off the Prime tier, bringing the price down to $189 for 27 months of service (Nord throws in an extra three months for free). Arguably the best plan for most people is the Plus tier, which is 73 percent off and down to $108 for the 27-month term.

MasterClass deal — Get 50 percent off one-year subscriptions: You can sign up for one year of MasterClass access for as low as $5 per month thanks to this sale that runs through September 1. A subscription lets you watch hundreds of online video classes taught by experts in their fields, and subject matter ranges from writing to cooking to sports.

Save $20 Or More On Mario RPGs For Nintendo Switch This Week

by admin August 26, 2025

If you’re looking to fill the gaps in your collection of Nintendo Switch exclusives, you should check out the assortment of game deals at Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy this week. Each retailer is offering discounts on several Super Mario games, including traditional platformers, role-playing games, and arcade sports titles. A handful of Nintendo Switch games outside of the Super Mario umbrella, including Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Emio – The Smiling Man, are featured in the sales, too.

Multiple games on the list below can be purchased for lower prices if you opt for an international edition from the UK or other regions. The Switch and Switch 2 are region-free consoles, so the only tangible difference a lot of the time is the ratings board logo on the cover. The one key thing to keep in mind is that DLC from the eShop must match the game’s region, so if you bought a UK edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you’d need to use the UK eShop if you wanted the Fighters Pass.

Video Game Deals: Nintendo Switch Exclusives

  • Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
  • Mario & Luigi: Brothership
  • Mario Strikers: Battle League
  • Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
  • Super Mario Maker 2
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World

Super Mario RPG

Turn-based RPG fans can save at least $20 on the Switch remakes of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG. The Thousand-Year Door is a beautiful and thoroughly faithful enhanced version of the 2003 GameCube classic. Amazon and Walmart are sold out of the $40 deal, but Best Buy still has copies for $40.

Many Mario fans view The Thousand-Year Door as the pinnacle of Mario role-playing games. Its main competition for the crown is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the 1996 SNES classic that was remade for Nintendo Switch in 2023. This is one of those deals that’s even better if you don’t mind picking up an international edition. The imported edition of Super Mario RPG is $36.50 at Amazon, whereas the US release is $40 at Amazon and Walmart. North American edition for $40, while the imported edition is $36.50.

Just like Mario RPG, an international copy of Mario & Luigi: Brothership is $36.50 at Amazon, and the US edition is $40 at Best Buy. Brothership has some rather unfortunate performance issues on original Switch hardware. If you own a Switch 2, however, the game runs noticeably smoother despite not receiving an official Switch 2 update. The roughly 40-hour adventure has some pacing issues and clunky design choices, but it’s still an enjoyable game. For transparency, I stopped playing it at launch due to the performance issues, but I liked it quite a bit when I gave it another try on Switch 2.

Best Buy is the only retailer with deals on Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition – Deluxe Set, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. The Deluxe Set of Nintendo World Championships is bundled with a replica NES cartridge, a collection of art cards featuring cover art from the 8-bit era, and a set of enamel pins with pixel art.

For more Nintendo collectibles, check out our roundup on the discounted Legend of Zelda and Street Fighter 6 Amiibo figures. All seven figures that launched the same day as the Switch 2 console are on sale for $20.

On the Mario side of Amiibo, fans can get the Koopa Troopa and Goomba figures directly from Amazon for $16 each. Nintendo recently raised the MSRP of pre-Switch 2 Amiibo to $20, so you’re saving 20% on each. These figures launched way back in 2017 a few weeks before Super Mario Odyssey hit stores. Prior to this year, Amazon had been sold out of both figures since 2018.

Katabasis Deluxe Limited Edition – Save Big On R.F. Kuang’s New Fantasy Novel

by admin August 25, 2025

Nebula Award-winning author R.F. Kuang returns this week with a new fantasy novel. Pitched as Dante’s Inferno crossed with Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi, Katabasis is a 560-page novel that takes place at a magical university and the underworld. The highly anticipated standalone novel releases August 26, and publisher Harper Voyager is commemorating the launch with a gorgeous collectible hardcover. Katabasis Deluxe Limited Edition is available for $24.48 (was $35) at Amazon and Walmart.

After the first printing of Katabasis sells out, readers will have to settle for the standard edition, which means you’ll miss out on the eye-catching sprayed page edges, lavish case, and illustrated endpapers. Considering that Amazon now also has a store page for the standard edition–for only two bucks less–the Deluxe Limited Edition is possibly close to selling out.

Take a look at the Deluxe Limited Edition of Katabasis below. Fans of Kuang’s Poppy War Trilogy should also check out Amazon’s discounts on the new Deluxe Collector’s Editions of the first two novels in the series.

R.F. Kuang Collector’s Edition Books:

$24.48 (was $35) | Releases August 26

R.F. Kuang’s latest fantasy novel revolves around a pair of PhD students, Alice Law and Peter Murdoch, who study Magick at a fictional Cambridge University. When their academic advisor Professor Jacob Grimes dies in what sounds like a classroom exercise gone terribly wrong, Alice blames herself. She couldn’t stand the guy, but as the best magician alive, Jacob’s recommendation letter could jumpstart her career in Magick. And he hadn’t written recommendation letters before his untimely death.

Described as academic rivals, Alice and Peter join forces and risk their own lives to try to save their futures–and Jacob, who happens to be in literal Hell. And so the pair of brainy, aspirational magicians take a trip to the depths of Hell. But all of their training didn’t prepare them for what Hell is actually like.

The title comes from Greek myths that refer to a descent to Hell as a katabasis. The publisher calls Katabasis “2025’s most unexpected love story,” in case you were wondering whether this is an enemies-turned-lovers situation. And while it is, in a way, I’ve read it, and it really does subvert your expectations in this regard.

The 560-page Deluxe Limited Edition hardcover has decorative sprayed edges featuring the college and the underworld. The dust jacket artwork shows Alice and Peter descending a winding staircase surrounded by bookshelves. This 3D representation of their journey is also depicted on the embossed front cover when you remove the dust jacket. The Deluxe Limited Edition also has exclusive endpapers designed to resemble pages from Alice’s notebook with equations, tables, and diagrams.

Signed copies of the Deluxe Limited Edition were available at Barnes & Noble for $35, but it’s currently sold out.

Editions of Katabasis by R.F. Kuang

Katabasis Deluxe Limited Edition

The Deluxe Limited Edition is for the US market, but Harper Voyager also printed a different collectible hardcover in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Big fans of Kuang’s work can import the international limited edition from UK bookshops like Waterstones–though shipping costs and potential tariffs could be rough–or buy a copy from a US reseller on Amazon for around $50.

Large Print editions of Katabasis are available in paperback, and the UK version is roughly half the price compared to the US Large Print edition.

Katabasis is also available as a $15 Kindle ebook and Audible audiobook narrated by Morag Sims and Will Watt.

R.F. Kuang’s The Poppy War, Babel, and The Dragon Republic

  • The Poppy War Trilogy Box Set — $32.49 ($60)
  • The Poppy War: Book 1 (2018)
  • The Dragon Republic: Book 2 (2019)
  • The Burning God: Book 3 (2020)
  • Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence (2022)
  • Yellowface (2023)

Kuang is one of the most prolific and successful young writers working in fiction today. Despite only just turning 29 earlier this year, Katabasis is Kuang’s sixth novel. In 2018, Harper Voyager published Kuang’s debut novel, The Poppy War, when she was 22–but she was only 20 when she signed the contract. The first in a grimdark historical fantasy trilogy set in a fictionalized version of Kuang’s native China, The Poppy War was followed up by The Dragon Republic in 2019 and The Burning God in 2020. The award-winning series is available in multiple physical formats, including a budget-friendly paperback box set, hardcover, and trade paperback.

Last November, Harper published The Poppy War Deluxe Collector’s Edition with sprayed edges, illustrated endpapers, embossed visual effects, and a fully illustrated dust jacket. The Poppy War Collector’s Edition hardcover is discounted to $24.29 (was $45) at Amazon. The Dragon Republic Deluxe Collector’s Edition released in June and is on sale for $26 (was $45). Though not confirmed yet, we imagine The Burning God will get a matching Collector’s Edition of its next year.

After completing the trilogy, Kuang shifted gears to speculative fiction in Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution. Yes, that’s a very long title. Babel is a fascinating alternate history that, like Katabasis, revolves around academia. It won the 2022 Nebula Award for Best Novel.

Kuang changed genres once again with her riveting 2023 novel Yellowface. The satirical novel takes aim at racial diversity in publishing. If you like audiobooks, Helen Laser’s narration of Yellowface is wildly entertaining.

August has brought a number of other notable new fantasy and sci-fi novels, including Charlie Jane Anders’ Lessons in Magic and Disaster, Gareth Brown’s The Society of Unknowable Objects, Louis Sachar’s The Magician of Tiger Castle, and Yasuhiko Nishizawa’s The Man Who Died Seven Times.

Save $40 On Silent Hill 2’s PlayStation 5 Remake For A Limited Time

by admin August 24, 2025

Silent Hill 2’s excellent remake is discounted to only $30 (was $70) for PS5 at Amazon and Walmart. This limited-time offer matches the lowest price ever for the PS5 and PC survival horror game. PC players can get a Steam key from Fanatical for $37.79.

$30 (was $70)

Originally released for PS2 in 2001, Silent Hill 2 is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror games of all time. A remastered version appeared in the Silent Hill HD Collection in 2012, but Bloober Team’s 2024 remake is a fully rebuilt, modernized take on the Konami classic. The stunning visual overhaul makes Silent Hill 2’s haunting atmosphere all the more terrifying. The reworked soundtrack aptly captures the game’s tone, and the voice actor performances elevate the narrative.

Bloober Team’s remake is a dark descent into a world with an oppressive atmosphere. Full of surreal nightmares, players not only have to survive the terrors stalking Silent Hill but find answers to the questions that have haunted the protagonist James Sunderland for several years.

Now’s a great time to play Silent Hill 2, as the next entry in the franchise releases September 25. Silent Hill f is a standalone spin-off set in the 1960s. Unlike Silent Hill 2’s remake, the spin-off isn’t exclusive to PlayStation on consoles. Silent Hill f is available to preorder for $70 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Console players should check out Amazon’s exclusive Day One Edition that includes a double-sided poster.

PC players can save 25% on Steam key preorders at Fanatical. The standard edition is only $52.49, and the Digital Deluxe is $60 (was $80). The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with multiple in-game items and outfits as well as early access starting September 23.

With the latter, you’re saving a full $20 and will get multiple in-game items as well as early access starting September 23.
