Ubisoft still “deep” in the development of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

by admin June 17, 2025

Ubisoft is still “deep” in the development of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

While the developer didn’t offer much more information about its pipeline or intimate a release date, in a message posted to social media, the team wrote: “Yep, we’re still deep in the game – exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose.”

“This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Beyond that, Ubisoft would only confirm to curious fans that the remake would be “com[ing] to consoles with the full launch.”

The remake was announced at Ubisoft Forward 2020, and had an initial release date of January 21, 2021. Back then, the reveal drew criticism for its visuals, prompting Ubisoft to delay release to March 2021. In June 2021, the remake of the 2003 title was rescheduled for 2022. After the title switched studios, Ubisoft refunded all pre-orders, and it’s now finally expected to release in 2026.

Last month, Ubisoft confirmed Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – which launched on console and PC in January 2024, MacOS in December 2024, and mobile in April 2025 – surpassed two million players.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake Shows Signs Of Life With Small Update

by admin June 17, 2025

Ubisoft has provided an update on its long-in-development remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. No, it’s not a release date, but it is confirmation that the game is, in fact, still happening.

A new post from the official Prince of Persia X account frankly states,

“Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Additionally, the post shares a new piece of artwork (posted in the header above).

It’s a rare update for the troubled title, which was first announced in September 2020. The remake of the 2003 classic was originally in development at Ubisoft’s Indian studios in Mumbai and Pune with a planned launch in early 2021. The game was initially billed as a ground-up remake with improved textures and lighting, modernized combat, new cinematics, and re-recorded dialogue from the original voice actors (including Prince actor Yuri Lowenthal).

A few months after its reveal, the game was delayed a few months, then postponed indefinitely. In 2022, development was transferred to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original Sands of Time, which effectively reset its development. During Ubisoft Forward in 2024, the publisher announced a 2026 launch window for the remake, and it’s unclear what the new scope of its improvements will be.

When it was announced, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was slated to launch on last-gen consoles and PC. It’s unclear if the game will still launch on those platforms, as one would imagine development would shift to current hardware. Until we learn more, you can watch us revisit the original game in this episode of Replay.  Be sure to also check out our review of the last Prince of Persia title, 2024’s The Lost Crown, here.  You can also read our preview for another upcoming spin-off, The Rogue Prince of Persia, which is slated to launch out of Early Access in August.

After five tumultuous years, Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is now “deep” in development

by admin June 16, 2025

It’s now been five years since Ubisoft’s beleaguered Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was originally revealed, and a little over a year since the publisher last popped up to remind us all the project was still alive. But here we are again, 12 months on, with another brief update, this time letting fans know the remake remains “deep” in development.

Ubisoft’s Sands of Time remake was initially unveiled back in September 2020, when it was expected to arrive in January the following year. However, after its announcement trailer was met with a less than positive reception, Ubisoft kicked off what would prove to be a succession of delays. Eventually, the project moved from its original developers Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal, where it was seemingly rebooted from scratch, and last year brought the news it wouldn’t be ready for release until 2026.

But while it seemed like Ubisoft might opt for radio silence until its remake was finally ready for its big re-reveal, the publisher has instead shared the briefest of updates today on social media, a little over a year since its last one. “Yep, we’re still deep in the game,” it wrote, “exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose.”

Here’s what the Sands of Time remake looked like before it was rebooted from scratch.Watch on YouTube

“This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares,” it continued, “and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.” And that’s pretty much all we’re getting for now, aside from an accompanying bit of art showing a glass palace against a pink sky. Ubisoft also pointed fans in the direction of series spin-off The Rogue Prince of Persia, from Dead Cells studio Evil Empire, which is set to leave early access this August.

Ubisoft’s Sands of Time remake woes have continued to a tumultuous few years for the publisher, which has faced tumbling share prices and a number of high-profile flops in recent times, resulting in a string of layoffs and studio closures. As part of its attempts to right the ship, Ubisoft announced it was launching a new subsidiary dedicated to its big three IPs – Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry – earlier this year. With those game under a new banner, Ubisoft itself will concentrate on a number of key areas, including “nurturing the development of iconic franchises”, including – presumably – Prince of Persia.

Prince of Persia social media botch forces Ubisoft to promise once again that it’s still working on The Sands of Time

by admin June 16, 2025

In what seems like an entirely out-of-nowhere reminder, a surprise message on the Prince of Persia X account has popped up to promise everyone that yes, Ubisoft is still working on The Sands of Time “behind the scenes,” and no, it has nothing more to say about it. It’s all a bit odd, and almost entirely random, but scrolling back through the social media feed reveals that there is actually a good reason for the unprompted message—and by “good” I mean pretty silly.

First things first, a quick timeline on The Sands of Time Remake. It was originally supposed to be out in January 2021 but was delayed a couple months because “2020 has been a year like no other,” and boy, we really had no idea, did we?

Fair enough, then—and also a reminder of how long this whole thing has been dragging on—but another delay followed without a new release date—never a good sign—and then another, and eventually it got to the point where Ubisoft was reduced to promising the whole thing hadn’t been cancelled (but had been delayed (again)). There was a new studio, and more studios, a whole-ass reboot in mid-2023, a delay into 2026 with an unexplained title change, and honestly: Why is it so hard to make a game you already made 20 years ago?

Anyway, I re-litigate all of this because it amuses me to do so, but also because the events leading up to today’s seemingly random missive on social media also have a timeline explaining why Ubisoft would just put this out for no apparent reason, which we will now dive into.

It begins on June 9, with the appearance of an ominous message: “Something is lurking in these waters,” words made even more noteworthy because of their appearance one year, almost to the day, after Ubisoft’s most recent Sands of Time update, the one where the “Remake” part of the title was dropped. Exciting stuff for those who noticed, but not many noticed because the message was quickly deleted.

This guy noticed, though.

It turned out the message that got Sands of Time hopefuls all worked up was in fact intended for the For Honor account, to tease the reveal of the next season:

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Ubisoft copped to the whiff in short order.

Unfortunately, it didn’t help calm things down: Some fans were convinced Ubisoft really did have something to show, others begged for anything, and a few seemed to have simply reached their limit with the whole thing:

Which brings us to today’s update, posted just shy of a week after everything went sideways with a For Honor tease.

“Yep, we’re still deep in the game—exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose,” Ubisoft wrote. “This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.

“While development continues behind the scenes, there’s another adventure waiting for you right now: The Rogue Prince of Persia—fast, stylish, and built with the same dedication.”

So there you have it: Yes, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still in development, and no, there’s nothing to see here but a social media guy who probably didn’t have the best weekend ever. Sorry.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time does not have a release date yet, but for now it remains on target for sometime in 2026. We’ll see.

A Roman Sands RE:Build release date and a tease for a new edition of Paratopic is exactly what the doctor ordered

by admin June 7, 2025

I’ve been excited about Roman Sands RE:Build since the moment I laid my eyes on it, particularly because it’s from the same studio behind the ever-haunting Paratopic. Roman Sands just has a ridiculously strong art direction to it, very much one that could easily be dubbed Y2K, but I think more accurately should be seen as an evolution of the aesthetic/ era. Almost as if this is the direction it could have gone in.

Just great stuff, not even counting the oddball gameplay, and as revealed in a new trailer, it’s got a release date now too: September 12th. That’s close enough for me to count down the days, but far away enough for me to think “I’d like to be playing this right now actually, ta very much.” The trailer offered a new look at its strange, puzzley hotel and all of its guests, as well as a tease for the things you’ll be getting up to (all of which seem quite ominous.

Watch on YouTube

The gameplay itself sees you attending to the demands of said guests as outlandish as they all are, but the clock is working against you. Specifically, a clock that’ll see the sun swallowing up the world. Terrifying! And a great hook. There’s a demo you can check out on Steam too, or you can just wishlist it if you want to wait for the full thing.

Excitingly, the release date trailer also had a mysterious tease for Paratopic: Overdub, seemingly an anniversary edition of the game. Over on its Steam page it’s described as a remaster/ remix/ sequel, and look, it could be none of those things and I’d still be in. Paratopic is a peak example of the modern trend of PS1-inspired games, using the aesthetic to really hone in on its subtle horrors. Whatever this new thing contains, I’ll take it. It’s coming September 12th too, so I’m sure like me you’ll be plenty busy that day!
