Gold Rallies an Hour After BTC Drops, Suggesting a Profit Rotation Into Metals

by admin September 22, 2025

Gold, often seen as an analog for sound money, rose 1% on Monday to set another record high and bring its 2025 gain to 43%.

The metal, now trading at $3,721, advanced about an hour after bitcoin BTC$112,814.05, seen by some proponents as a digital form of sound money, posted a 24-hour drop of 3% that cut its price to $112,000 and its year-to-date gain to 17%. The timing suggests the possibility that profits from bitcoin liquidations rotated into gold.

The two assets rarely move in tandem, though there are occasional periods when both rise or fall simultaneously, often with a short lag. This time, the divergence is stronger.

Gold is not the only metal attracting flows. Silver gained 1.5% on Monday to approach $44, its third-highest level since 1975, and is now up more than 50% year to date.

Notably, since the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 bps on Sept. 17, both gold and the S&P 500 are up about 1%. At the same time, U.S. treasury yields have risen, with the U.S. 10-year at 4.125% (up 2.5%) and the U.S. 30-year at 4.7% (up 2%).

The dollar strengthened, with the DXY index adding 1% to 97.5. A stronger dollar typically puts pressure on risk assets, and bitcoin has dropped over 3.5% since the Fed’s move.

Ethereum Leads Market Rotation Amid Shifting Liquidity On Binance, Is A Rebound In Sight?

by admin September 3, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

After days of downward pressure and decline, Ethereum, the leading altcoin, appears to be staging a comeback as it surges toward the $4,400 price level. Despite the period of bearish price action, the second-largest asset continues to see serious interest from investors, especially on the Binance crypto platform.

Liquidity Migration, And Ethereum Is Dominating The Trend

As the market turns bearish, liquidity flows and investor behavior on Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, are revealing a clear market rotation. In the midst of this crucial market shift is Ethereum, as the altcoin heavily dominates the trend.

Following his analysis, Darkfost highlighted that ETH is gaining a disproportionate amount of trading activity on the Binance platform while capital moves across assets. This dominance of ETH indicates a renewed belief in the asset’s ongoing rally and long-term potential.

According to the on-chain expert and author, a noticeable change in investor behavior occurred on Binance during the month of August, which marked the first of its kind since 2023. Meanwhile, Ethereum took the center stage with a massive increase in trading volume over other major assets.

In addition to dominating other major assets listed on Binance, the altcoin outpaced Bitcoin’s trading volume on the platform. This spike in interest coincides with ongoing market volatility, underscoring ETH’s developing position as the hub of momentum and liquidity in the exchange ecosystem.

Data shared by Darkfost shows that ETH recorded nearly $550 trillion in trading volume on Binance in August alone. After calculating Binance’s trading volume, this figure represents roughly 54% of the total volume. Darkfost also highlighted that investor interest in the altcoin seems to have increased sharply on the Binance platform, which has triggered a clear liquidity rotation.

With most cryptocurrencies still struggling and Bitcoin recently reaching a new all-time high around $123,000, this dynamic has largely driven the increased attention to ETH and contributed to its current outperformance. Historically, a portion of the capital has tended to shift into ETH following a robust bullish leg from BTC before spreading to the rest of the market.

ETH Exchange Reserves Are Dropping

Another metric that reflects this renewed wave of interest is the Ethereum Exchange Reserve on Binance. Despite ETH’s continuous decline in price after reaching a new all-time high, Crypto Sunmoon’s quick-take post shows that demand for the altcoin remains strong compared to Bitcoin.

While Bitcoin reserves on the Binance platform have stayed comparatively constant, Ethereum reserves are exhibiting a persistent downward trend. According to the on-chain expert, this divergence implies that there is more demand for Ethereum than for Bitcoin, as market participants are actively accumulating ETH even during the present price consolidation phase.

Also, a declining exchange reserve is an indication that investors are moving their holdings off centralized exchanges to long-term storage or cold storage. Such a trend points to growing conviction among investors, which typically reduces selling pressure on ETH.

August ETF Flows Show the Massive Scale of Bitcoin to Ethereum Rotation

by admin September 1, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here’s what’s making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk’s Crypto Daybook Americas.

August delivered a rare reversal in the ETF tide: Bitcoin spot funds shed $751 million in net outflows just weeks after powering the asset to a $124,000 all-time high, while Ethereum ETFs quietly absorbed $3.9 billion, according to market data.

The divergence is striking because it marks the first time since both products launched that BTC ETFs have lost ground, while Ethereum ETFs have posted strong inflows in the same month, suggesting that institutional investors may be rebalancing their exposure.

(SoSoValue)

On-chain data underscores Bitcoin’s fragility. A recent report from Glassnode shows BTC slipping below the cost basis of 1- and 3-month holders, leaving short-term investors under water and raising the risk of deeper retracement. A sustained move beneath the six-month cost basis near $107,000 could accelerate losses toward the $93,000–$95,000 support zone, where a dense cluster of long-term holders last accumulated.

Prediction markets are echoing that caution. Polymarket traders now assign a 65% chance that BTC revisits $100,000 before $130,000, while only 24% expect it to hit $150,000 by year-end. That shift suggests investors see the July rally as overextended without renewed ETF demand to back it.

Ethereum, meanwhile, has benefited from steadier inflows. ETH ETFs have logged positive net subscriptions in 10 of the last 12 months, and August’s $3.9 billion haul helped the token notch a 25% gain over 30 days despite a rough week.

With Bitcoin’s ETF tide flowing out, Ethereum’s steadier institutional bid may be emerging as a quiet ballast and perhaps the start of a rotation story heading into year-end.

Market Movements:

BTC: Market observers say crypto charts look so bearish they could be bullish, according to prior CoinDesk reporting, as BTC trades below 108k, with forced liquidations clearing leverage and a rebound likely after the Fed’s Sept. 17 decision.

ETH: Polymarket traders see Ethereum holding above $3,800 into September 5 with over 90% odds, while longer-term bets give it a 71% chance of finishing 2025 above $5,000 and slimmer odds of $10,000 or higher.

Gold: Gold climbed toward record highs as traders priced in Fed rate cuts, a weaker dollar, and political uncertainty following challenges to the central bank’s independence.

Nikkei 225: The Nikkei 225 looked set to open lower as investors weighed a U.S. court ruling against Trump’s tariffs, China-India ties, and upcoming manufacturing data.

BTC Fragility and ETH Rotation Signal Market Bracing for Consolidation Without New Liquidity

by admin August 26, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here’s what’s making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk’s Crypto Daybook Americas.

Bitcoin is trading just below $110,000 after another failed bounce, down roughly 7% since peaking over $117,000 in the wake of Powell’s dovish Jackson Hole speech, according to CoinDesk market data. Ethereum, which briefly touched $4,900 before a sharp reversal, is holding above $4,300 but showing signs of exhaustion after weeks of outperformance.

The bull run is fraying, market observers say, as thinning liquidity, ETF outflows, and fragile onchain activity collide with whales rotating into ETH and retail longs getting liquidated. Yet beneath the surface, billion-dollar sovereign and institutional allocations are quietly scaling into volatility, creating a sharp divergence between weak short-term conviction and programmatic long-horizon buying.

Glassnode’s latest Market Pulse shows the cycle slipping from euphoria into fragility: spot momentum fading toward oversold territory, ETF flows swinging to a $1 billion outflow, and realized profits collapsing back to breakeven.

That fragility was underscored by QCP Capital, which traced this weekend’s crash to an early holder unloading 24,000 BTC into thin liquidity, a move that cascaded into $500 million in liquidations. QCP said the sale exposed just how brittle the market has become with ETFs bleeding $1.2 billion in outflows even as whales rotate into ETH, pushing the ETH/BTC cross through 0.04.

Singapore-based market maker Enflux picks up that thread, arguing that not all flows are created equal.

While retail longs were blown out, a $2.55 billion ETH stake routed through a single contract and the UAE royal family’s $700 million BTC exposure via Citadel Mining looks less like speculative punts and more like sovereign and institutional allocations.

In other words, even as Glassnode’s onchain data shows weakening address activity and fee volumes, there are counterparties deliberately using volatility to scale into size.

The result is a divergence: retail leverage continues to get flushed, while long-horizon allocators quietly accumulate.

But with transaction fees collapsing back toward decade lows and blocks clearing with little congestion, liquidity on the Bitcoin blockchain itself looks thin. That’s a problem for miners already squeezed by halved rewards, and it leaves the broader market bracing for consolidation, or deeper drawdowns into September, historically Bitcoin’s weakest month.

(CoinDesk)

Market Movement

BTC: Bitcoin’s brief rebound from its weekend plunge failed Monday, with prices rejected at $113,000 before sliding to a seven-week low near $109,700, down 2.7% on the day and 7% from Friday’s post-Powell peak above $117,000.

ETH: Altcoins buckled Monday with ETH dropping nearly 8% below $4,400 and SOL, DOGE, ADA, and LINK sliding 6–8%, triggering $700 million in liquidations, mostly from over $627 million in long bets.

Gold: Gold is holding above $3,350 as Powell’s dovish Jackson Hole remarks boost rate-cut bets and geopolitical tensions sustain safe-haven demand, even as dollar strength and upcoming U.S. growth data loom as headwinds.

Nikkei 225: Asia-Pacific stocks fell Tuesday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Topix down 0.54%, as investors weighed Trump’s China comments and U.S.–South Korea trade talks on planned 15% tariffs.

S&P 500: U.S. stocks pulled back Monday from a rate-cut-fueled rally, with the S&P 500 down 0.4% as focus turned to Nvidia’s upcoming earnings.

Bitcoin OG Sells Another 4,000 BTC To Buy Ethereum As Capital Rotation Intensifies

by admin August 25, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

After setting a new all-time high of $124,500, Bitcoin is now battling to hold the $115,000 level as support. The bulls, who dominated just days ago, are struggling to spark a fresh rally, leaving the market in a delicate phase. While fundamentals such as institutional adoption and strong holder demand continue to support the broader uptrend, capital flows suggest a new dynamic is at play.

Several analysts note signs of capital rotation from Bitcoin into altcoins, a pattern that often marks transitions between phases of the market cycle. Ethereum, in particular, is emerging as a major destination for this shift.

Adding to the intrigue, on-chain intelligence firm Lookonchain has been tracking the movements of a long-dormant Bitcoin OG whale, who has reawakened with extraordinary activity. On Friday, the whale deposited 300 BTC ($34.86 million) into Hyperliquid to sell for Ethereum. His bold strategy is paying off: he’s now sitting on over $100 million in unrealized profits.

The whale currently holds a 135,265 ETH ($581M) long position at a $4,295 average entry, up $58 million, and also accumulated 122,226 ETH ($535M) spot at a $4,377 average, up $42 million. This aggressive rotation underscores a pivotal moment—one where Bitcoin consolidates, but altcoins, led by Ethereum, may capture the spotlight.

Bitcoin OG’s Bold Rotation Into Ethereum

According to Lookonchain, the mysterious Bitcoin OG whale continues to dominate market headlines with aggressive on-chain moves. Most recently, he transferred another 4,000 BTC (~$460 million) into exchanges, where the funds were converted into Ethereum. This marks yet another large-scale repositioning that has captured the attention of analysts and investors alike.

So far, the whale has accumulated a staggering 179,448 ETH (~$806 million) at an average price of $4,490, alongside a 135,265 ETH ($581 million) long position that remains open. These bold allocations underscore a decisive rotation strategy away from Bitcoin and into Ethereum, suggesting a bet on ETH’s outperformance in the coming phase of the cycle.

The implications are significant. On one hand, such a massive capital shift highlights growing institutional-style conviction in Ethereum as it pushes through all-time highs and challenges Bitcoin’s dominance. On the other hand, it raises concerns about short-term volatility.

Analysts warn that despite the bullish outlook, a shakeout may occur before sustained gains materialize. With leverage in derivatives markets climbing and liquidity thinning in spot trading, sharp pullbacks could easily flush out overextended positions.

Bitcoin Vs. Ethereum: Weekly Chart Analysis

The ETH/BTC weekly chart shows Ethereum gaining significant ground against Bitcoin after a long downtrend that lasted from mid-2022 to early 2025. ETH has now rallied to the 0.041 BTC level, posting strong bullish candles and reclaiming key moving averages. The 50-week SMA (blue) has just been broken to the upside, and price is testing the 100-week SMA (green), an important resistance zone. If ETH manages to sustain momentum above this level, the next key target lies near the 200-week SMA (red) around 0.055 BTC.

This rotation is especially important because ETH has been underperforming Bitcoin for over two years. The recent surge signals a potential capital rotation from BTC into ETH, a trend reinforced by large institutional buys and whales shifting positions into Ethereum.

On the downside, if ETH/BTC faces rejection at the current resistance, the pair could retest support around 0.035 BTC, which aligns with previous consolidation. However, momentum indicators suggest strength is currently with Ethereum.
