‘Ironheart’ Will Continue Tony Stark’s Legacy, and Robert Downey Jr. Approves

by admin June 18, 2025

“I want to continue Stark’s legacy,” says Riri Williams, the main character in the upcoming Marvel Studios show Ironheart. Played by Dominique Thorne, Riri is a genius inventor, just like the late, great Iron Man, but without his billionaire resources. That conflict will be at the heart of the new show, which debuts on Disney+ June 24, and Tony Stark himself just endorsed it.

Two fantastic Ironheart videos just came online, one of which focuses on the practical suits built for the production. Executive producer Ryan Coogler, who introduced Riri in his film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, chimes in along with other members of the creative team. Here’s where we get to see Riri really try and be the MCU’s next Tony Stark.

In reality, though, we know that the next Tony Stark isn’t Tony Stark at all. He’s Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr. is currently in London filming Avengers: Doomsday, where he plays the titular villain, and the actor chimed in from the set to give his approval to Ironheart during an interview with Good Morning America. The full interview is below, but we’ve cued it right up to Downey’s bit.

Now, it’s quite clear Downey is reading a pre-written statement there, and to some, that might make it seem forced. But he didn’t have to read or record anything at all. If this were a political campaign, Ironheart getting the official backing of the Godfather of the MCU like this would be a big deal. And we still think it’s at least a medium-sized deal, just because who better to know stories of geniuses in super suits than Robert Downey Jr.?

Ironheart debuts June 24 and is one of only a handful of Marvel Studios shows coming to Disney+ in the next year or so. After this, there’s the animated Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies, followed by Wonder Man in December, season two of Daredevil Born Again, probably sometime next year, and, finally, the Vision show. Will Ironheart be the best of the bunch? What kind of impact, if any, will it have on the MCU? We’ll find out soon.

Here’s a look at the episode titles:

Robert Downey Jr. Publicly Supports Ironheart In Touching Video

by admin June 18, 2025

The torch has been officially passed. During a recent Good Morning America interview, Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos were surprised with a video message from Robert Downey Jr. In the clip, the OG Iron Man shares his support and jokes about a similarity between Ramos’s Parker Robbins character and Downey Jr.’s own much-anticipated Doctor Doom portrayal.

Ironheart’s New Trailer Delivers A Couple Cool Surprises

During the recorded message, which we all hope was filmed on the set of Avengers: Doomsday, the MCU’s anchor being professes his love and support for Thorne and Ramos’s work in Ironheart, dotingly remarking, “Ms. Thorne, I couldn’t be happier than seeing you bring Riri Williams to life.” Never one to pass up an opportunity to poke fun at the obvious, he then follows up his praise by joking that he hopes the green hood that Ramos’s character dons in the Ironheart trailer isn’t a sign that the actor will replace him as Doctor Doom.

The real passing of the torch comes in the heartfelt final moments of the message, when the 60-year-old actor uses his fingers to make a heart resembling the Arc Reactor that keeps Tony Stark alive, as he proclaims, “Iron Man loves Ironheart.” What makes the gesture feel that much more genuine is Thorne’s revelation that Downey Jr. called her shortly after she finished filming Ironheart in Chicago to share his support. In a May interview with Empire, the longtime Iron Man fan shared exactly what he told her during that phone call.

“He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it, too. I literally got two thumbs up. It’s really reassuring to know you’re not embarrassing Iron Man.”

This isn’t the first time Downey Jr. has shared his public support of Ironheart. During a gala at the Gene Siskel Film Center in June 2019, 18 months before Marvel announced the Ironheart series, the first superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe definitively stated he thought Ironheart belonged in the MCU. He got his wish when Riri Williams made her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, even though she wasn’t specifically referred to as Ironheart.

Downey Jr.’s Good Morning America appearance isn’t the holographic video tutorial that we hope Stark will leave Riri in Ironheart. Still, it’s good for the people who built the MCU to show support for the next generation, especially when you know there are going to be trolls ready to curse Ironheart in honor of Iron Man’s name.

Robert Eggers Is Making a ‘Christmas Carol’ Movie, and Willem Dafoe May Be Scrooge

by admin June 11, 2025

Over the decades, few stories have been as malleable as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Story. It’s been a Bill Murray comedy, it’s been a Robert Zemeckis CGI fest, and it’s even been a Muppet movie, just to name a few. Next up for the iconic tale, though, is what we can only assume is a much darker, scarier twist from none other than Robert Eggers.

Deadline reports that the man behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and last year’s surprise hit Nosferatu, is in talks to write and direct an adaptation of the story for Warner Bros. And, though no cast is attached yet, Eggers is reportedly eyeing frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe to play the lead character of Ebenezer Scrooge.

If you’re like us, your mind is currently trying to figure out what an Eggers version of this story looks like, and it’s not a pretty picture, in the best possible way. Eggers has largely avoided adaptations, instead preferring deep, personal research to inform his own original stories, though that slightly changed with Nosferatu. Next up, he’s co-written and will direct Werwulf, another period horror piece which will focus on—you guessed—werewolves.

When you think about A Christmas Story, though, it’s just so in Eggers’ wheelhouse. There’s the original, period setting, of course. The mix of pathos with fantasy and horror. Lots of opportunities for evocative and beautiful sets, creatures, and costumes. Plus, for Hollywood, it’s a name brand. It’s kind of the perfect bullseye in every single way. And that’s before you even put Dafoe in the role of Scrooge. It’s basically the role he was born to play.

Eggers is also attached to a reboot of Labyrinth, so there’s no word about which film would go after Werwulf, which is currently looking at a Christmas 2026 release.  But, if Christmas Carol is next, there seems to be a very good chance that Christmas 2028 might just scare the Dickens out of us.

Robert Lewandowski says he feels ‘betrayed’ by Poland coach

Poland’s record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski has said he feels his trust was “betrayed” by head coach Michał Probierz and that it will be difficult to forget the events which led to him stepping away from international football this week.

Lewandowski, 36, made the surprise announcement on Sunday that he would not play for Poland for as long as Probierz remains in charge.

The decision came after Lewandowski was stripped of the captaincy, although the Barcelona striker said it was the way the issue was handled which hurt most.

“I got a surprise call from Probierz with the information that he had decided to take away the armband,” Lewandowski said in an interview with SportoweFakty on Monday.

“I was not prepared for it at all, I was putting my children to bed. The conversation lasted a few minutes. I didn’t even have time to tell my family what had happened, because a few moments later it appeared online.

“I’ve been wearing the armband for 11 years and playing for the national team for 17. It seemed to me that such matters should be handled differently.

“Everything was communicated over the phone. It really shouldn’t be like this. The coach betrayed my trust.

“I’ve always given everything to the national team, it’s always been the most important thing to me, but I’m very hurt by what happened.”

Lewandowski’s announcement followed days of criticism in the Polish media following his decision not to make himself available for games against Moldova and Finland this month due to “physical and mental tiredness” after a long season with Barça and a recent hamstring injury.

As a result, he was replaced by Piotr Zieliński as captain on Sunday, although he said everything had been agreed with Probierz and questioned how certain information made it into the public domain.

“It’s not even about the decision regarding the armband, but the way it was communicated to me,” Lewandowski added.

“I really don’t care about the armband itself. I believe in Zieliński and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him.

“I have the impression that the coach caved in to the media pressure. He broke agreements we had and that’s why I’m surprised by his attitude.

“The decision that I wouldn’t come to the training camp was made together with the coach. I called him to ask what he thought about me getting some rest. He said that he supported it and that he was even thinking about calling me about it.”

Lewandowski, who has one more year to run on his Barça contract, said he may not have stepped away from the national team if Probierz had dealt with the situation differently, but feels it will be difficult to mend bridges now.

“In football, trust is a very important factor,” he said. “If you want to be successful, you have to pull in the same direction.

“Sometimes you can disagree with someone and that is normal. However, things have happened that will be hard to forget.”

Poland face Finland on Tuesday in a World Cup qualifier with the chance to extend their record to three wins from three as they look to book their place in North America next summer.

Lewandowski — who has won more caps (158) and scored more goals (85) than anyone else in the history of the Polish national team — is in danger of missing the tournament if nothing changes before.

“I want to sit down and think about it all calmly,” he said when asked if he will play for Poland again.

“I need to catch my breath. Then I will be able to say more about my thoughts and what’s next. Today there is regret and anger.

“I have always cared a lot about the national team. Nothing has changed in that respect.”

Probierz has been in charge of the team since 2023, when he replaced predecessor Fernando Santos after impressing during a short stint in charge of the country’s under-21 team.

He led Poland to Euro 2024 last summer, where they exited the competition in the group stage after failing to win a game.

The Poland boss reflected on his decision in a news conference on Monday.

“I had a whole day to reflect and make a decision. After this analysis, I decided to change captain,” Probierz said. He acknowledged that “the time and place in which such a decision is made are always very difficult.”

“Lewandowski is an outstanding player, but I thought it was a good time to change captain.”

Asked about Lewandowski’s refusal to be called up to any further international matches while the manager is in charge, Probierz said: “Robert’s response was that the captain’s armband meant nothing and that little would change for the team.”

“There are no bad feelings or grudges. It’s about the good of the national team.”

Lewandowski’s successor as captain, Zieliński, was reluctant to give his thoughts on the Barcelona forward’s decision.

[Lewandowski] is an outstanding footballer, there’s nothing to discuss about it,” he said.

“The coach made the decision, I respect it, I accept it with pride.

Zieliński added that he is open to speaking with Lewandowski, but “if that conversation has to happen, it will be after tomorrow’s game.”
