IBM’s New Quantum Roadmap Brings the Bitcoin Threat Closer

by admin June 14, 2025

In brief

  • IBM Quantum Starling will use 200 error-corrected qubits to run 100 million quantum operations.
  • The system relies on advanced error correction and modular design.
  • Fault tolerance addresses the challenges of quantum noise and decoherence.

Quantum computers weren’t expected to pose a threat to Bitcoin’s security anytime soon. But IBM has launched a project that could expedite the timeline: the world’s first fault-tolerant quantum computer, set to debut by 2029.

Despite their ability to calculate in multiple directions simultaneously, current-generation quantum computers have high error rates. Without fault tolerance, and the ability to detect and correct errors as they happen, quantum computers can’t run complex algorithms that would be needed to crack blockchains.

The system, named IBM Quantum Starling, is being designed to execute 100 million quantum operations using 200 error-corrected qubits. It will be housed at IBM’s quantum data center in Poughkeepsie, New York, and is part of the company’s ongoing roadmap for scalable quantum computing, which extends through 2033.

“Recent revisions to that roadmap project a path to 2033 and beyond, and so far, we have successfully delivered on each of our milestones,” IBM said in a statement. “Based on that past success, we feel confident in our continued progress.”

IBM’s approach to fault tolerance centers on error correction. Quantum systems are highly sensitive to noise and decoherence, environmental disturbances that can disrupt qubits almost immediately. The company’s solution uses Bivariate Bicycle codes, a type of quantum low-density parity-check (LDPC) code that it claims reduces the number of physical qubits needed by up to 90% compared to earlier methods.

Starling will also feature a real-time error correction decoder capable of running on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) or application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), enabling immediate response to errors before they escalate.

“A huge effort is devoted to quantum error correction and mitigation, and the new processor’s connectivity is especially promising for implementing quantum error-correcting codes more efficiently,” the technical director of the IBM Quantum Innovation Center at USC, Rosa Di Felice, told Decrypt.

“This new processor could help simplify the complex calculations needed to understand how molecules and materials behave,” Di Felice said. “That could lead to breakthroughs in areas like preventing rust, improving chemical reactions, and designing new medicines.”

To understand how IBM plans to achieve its goal, here’s a look at the company’s updated quantum computing roadmap.

The Starling roadmap

2025

  • Launch of the 120-qubit IBM Nighthawk processor with 16x greater circuit depth capability.
  • Qiskit software enhancements include dynamic circuits and integration with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Introduction of modular fault-tolerant quantum computing architecture.
  • IBM Quantum Loon is designed to test architecture components for the qLDPC code, including “C-couplers” that connect qubits over longer distances within the same chip.

2026

  • IBM targets the first quantum advantage demonstrations.
  • Expansion of error mitigation and utility mapping tools to support complex quantum workloads ahead of full fault tolerance.
  • IBM Quantum Kookaburra, expected to be released in 2026, will be IBM’s first modular processor designed to store and process encoded information. It will combine quantum memory with logic operations—the basic building block for scaling fault-tolerant systems beyond a single chip.

2027

  • Scaling to 1,080 qubits through chip-to-chip couplers.
  • IBM Quantum Cockatoo, expected in 2027, will entangle two Kookaburra modules using “L-couplers.” This architecture will link quantum chips together, much like nodes in a larger system, thereby avoiding the need to build impractically large chips.

2028–2029

  • Prototype of a fault-tolerant quantum computer (Starling) expected by 2028, with full deployment targeted for 2029.

Why it matters

Earlier this week, Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor downplayed the threat of quantum computers, calling them a bigger risk to banks and governments than to Bitcoin.

“They will hack your banking system, your Google account, your Microsoft account, and every other asset you have much sooner, because they’re an order of magnitude weaker,” he said at the time.

Experts, such as Professor David Bader of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, view fault tolerance as the linchpin of practical quantum computing—and potentially a threat to current cryptographic systems.

“Fault tolerance is really about making these quantum computers less fragile and less error-prone,” he said. “That is a key technology needed to scale up from beyond a handful of qubits to what we think we’ll need for real applications, which may be on the order of tens of thousands to millions of qubits.”

Bader acknowledged the fear that one of these applications could compromise cryptographic algorithms that secure cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, and emphasized the importance of blockchain developers moving toward quantum-resistant encryption.

“A powerful quantum computer capable of running Shor’s algorithm is still years away,” he said. “Blockchains won’t suddenly break in 2029—but it’s worth watching.”

Cetus Protocol relaunches with new roadmap and compensation plan after $223m exploit

by admin June 9, 2025

Sui network-based Cetus Protocol has relaunched with a new roadmap, open-source plans, and a compensation programme following a $223 million exploit.

The decentralized exchange unveiled its post-relaunch strategy in a June 8 blog post, outlining measures to enhance protocol security, upgrade monitoring systems, and transition toward full open-sourcing.

A newly structured white hat bounty programme has also been introduced to support community-driven security efforts.

According to the team, all affected CLMM pools have now been replenished using a combination of recovered assets, treasury funds, and a $30 million loan from the Sui Foundation.

Liquidity providers will regain access to their previous positions, with recovery rates ranging from 85% to 99%, depending on the extent of the damage to each pool.

To compensate for unrecovered losses, Cetus has allocated 15% of its native CETUS token supply to affected users. Of this, 5% will be immediately claimable, while the remaining 10% will be unlocked monthly over the next year, starting June 10.

The team clarified that the 15% CETUS allocation introduces no new inflation, as it repurposes unvested team tokens within the existing supply cap.

Compensation claims will be tied to LP position NFTs, which will remain valid as certificates for CETUS redemption, even after liquidity is withdrawn.

The protocol has also completed new security audits covering all code patches, contract upgrades, and the compensation contract. Additional rounds of audits and real-time threat detection upgrades are planned to further strengthen protocol resilience.

The Cetus Protocol was exploited on May 22, after an attacker manipulated its liquidity pool pricing by exploiting a flaw in a third-party code library.

In the immediate aftermath, the Cetus team froze operations and began working with Sui validators to recover assets. An on-chain governance vote held on May 29 approved the transfer of $162 million in frozen funds to a multisig wallet for recovery.

Further, the Sui Foundation supported the effort with a dedicated USDC loan to backstop off-chain losses.

Cetus stated that legal proceedings are ongoing in multiple jurisdictions, with law enforcement agencies actively engaged. The attacker, who declined a $6 million white-hat bounty, is reportedly attempting to launder assets, although the team claims that most movements remain traceable.

“We are highly confident that successful arrest and recovering the remaining assets is only a matter of time,” Cetus wrote in the latest announcement.

If additional funds are recovered during the compensation period, users will have the option to redeem CETUS for USDC. Once that period ends, remaining funds will be used for token buybacks and deposited into the community treasury.

The latest announcement, however, failed to lift CETUS, which fell around 7% on the day, extending a downtrend that began in May.

Summer finally gets going in The Sims 4 with a roadmap, and the reveal of a new expansion next week

by admin June 6, 2025

Maxis has, as promised, delivered some news about some of the content coming to The Sims 4 in the very near future. We’ve been expecting the June-August roadmap to be detailed this week, and that’s exactly what’s been revealed.

It all starts next week, when the next major expansion will be revealed. The Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack is set to be unveiled on Thursday, June 12. But there’s more coming throughout the summer, too.

As detailed on the official website, the June 12 reveal of Enchanted by Nature will only deliver the initial trailer; EA likes to make announcements of announcements a lot with The Sims. A deeper look at gameplay will arrive two weeks later, on June 26.

Enchanted by Nature will be available in The Sims 4 on July 10, so that’s another wait of two more weeks. The game is also hosting the Nature’s Calling event to celebrate the impending launch of the new expansion.

Nature’s Calling kicks off June 24, two days before the proper reveal of the expansion. This is a limited-time event that EA says will let you “hone your Sim’s handiness skill to discover a long-hidden secret of nature.” There’s actually a dedicated page to Nature’s Calling with more information on what you can expect, and how the event works.

On July 1, The Sims 4 will receive its next update. You can expect some nature-inspired skins and customisation options in that one. Later in the summer – on August 19, to be exact – a fresh batch of customisation options will arrive alongside another base game update.

That’s it! | Image credit: Maxis, EA.

The Sims 4’s most recent expansion was Businesses & Hobbies, a pack that introduced hobby classes, small businesses, and a new pottery skill. With each new expansion, cross-pack interactivity once again becomes a major talking point amongst the game’s community, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Nature’s Calling moves things forward in that area.

If you’re still playing Businesses & Hobbies, we’ve got a number of cheats to help you out, should you need them.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Roadmap Sounds Like Monster Hunter

by admin June 4, 2025

Image: FromSoftware / Bandai Namco

If you’re playing Elden Ring Nightreign you’ve probably beaten a few bosses by now. Maybe you’ve finished the whole game. Maybe you’re already thirsting for more challenges to overcome in the ever-shifting land of Limveld. Good news: more Nightreign DLC is on the way. In fact, FromSoftware’s post-launch plans for the multiplayer spin-off sound an awful lot like a live-service roadmap some fans have already been asking for.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

After announcing that Elden Ring Nightreign has already reached 3.5 million players, Bandai Namco previewed the year ahead for the online Elden Ring roguelike. “But the Night is far from over,” it posted on X. “In addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented, including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month, as well as Duo Expeditions at a later date.”

The $40 Elden Ring side-project has already received multiple patches addressing balance and difficulty, including making solo expeditions more forgiving and increasing the number of relics players unlock even when they fail a run. With what sounds like even tougher spins on existing Nightlord fights coming in June and entire DLC expansions later in the year, Nightreign is shaping up to be FromSoftware’s unique answer to the infinitely repayable boss fight formula popularized by Capcom’s Monster Hunter.

It’s easy to see where the studio could expand on the game, adding new bosses, loot, and world events as you explore the map. Hell, an entire new map doesn’t feel completely out of the realm of possibility either. Limveld is a procedurally generated remix of just one bit of Elden Ring’s sprawling open-world map. There are plenty of other areas that could be added to give us fresh reasons to return to Nightreign’s brutal boss rush grind.

Fans will also be relieved to know that a duos mode is already inbound. By far the most requested feature since launch, it was one of the first things to get modded into the game on PC. Players have also been requesting proximity voice chat or other tools to aid in communicating about objectives and strategies. Improved matchmaking would be great too. Searching for a third player when you’re already a group of two can lead to absurdly long queue times.

Fortunately, it sounds like Nightreign isn’t just a one-and-done experiment. No one wants to see FromSoftware become a live-service studio, and it’s already promised to continue releasing single-player games in the future, but I’ve been having such a blast with multiplayer Elden Ring that I’m glad it will continue to get a lot of support throughout the year.

Dogecoin Price Roadmap To $5: These 5 Bullish Factors Lead The Way

by admin May 23, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The Dogecoin price is gaining renewed attention as a crypto analyst outlines a potential roadmap toward a bullish $5 target. Backed by technical chart patterns and bullish signals, the analyst has unveiled five factors that are emerging as critical drivers in DOGE’s projected upward trajectory.

Technical Indicators Point To Dogecoin Price Rally

A recent technical analysis on Dogecoin’s monthly chart by Bitcoin Galaxy on TradingView forecasts that a massive rally could be on the horizon — one that would propel DOGE from its current price of $0.24 to $5. The chart analysis reveals five compelling bullish signals that could set the stage for this meteoric price increase.

A deep dive into the monthly time frame shows that Dogecoin is potentially repeating the same setup that led to its historic 2021 surge. First, the 20-month and 50-month Moving Averages (MA50 and MA20) have acted as solid support, just as they performed before during the last bull run. Dogecoin’s price recently rebounded from this support zone, mirroring the early stages of the previous bull cycle.

Another signal highlighted by the analyst is the Relative Strength Index (RSI). Currently, DOGE’s RSI remains relatively low on the monthly chart but is showing a potential for upward movement. In previous cycles, the RSI rose around the 80 level before a blow-off top. With ample room to grow toward 80% currently, Dogecoin’s momentum could be building for another price rally.

Source: Bitcoin Galaxy on Tradingview

Bitcoin Galaxy’s chart also shows that Dogecoin has long held a critical support level despite market turbulence, showing strength and resilience. The last time this support was tested and held, the meme coin experienced a price increase of approximately 20,399%.

The timeline of Dogecoin’s highlighted bullish structure may also be aligning. The previous bull rally took about six months (181 days) to reach its peak, roughly around $0.477 in 2021, from a similar technical setup. If the same pattern unfolds, the chart suggests October 2025 could mark a significant price climax.

This timeline places June and July in a critical window, which the analyst suggests could see strong bullish action and likely trigger the start or middle of DOGE’s projected rally phase. With these signals aligned, Bitcoin Galaxy believes that Dogecoin is set for a surge to $5, representing a 1,983% increase from its current market price.

$0.74 Resistance Key To DOGE Breakout

Notably, Bitcoin Galaxy highlights the $0.74 level as a critical resistance for Dogecoin. A breakout above this threshold could validate this analyst’s bullish roadmap toward the $4 – $5 target.

Looking at the chart, the resistance level aligns with the upper boundary of an ascending parallel channel that contains DOGE’s price movements from mid-2022 to date. This channel often signals healthy upward momentum as long as the price stays within its boundaries.
