Microsoft confirms Call of Duty DLC discounts with Xbox Game Pass now dropped in favour of reward points

by admin October 6, 2025

Microsoft has confirmed it’s dropped Call of Duty DLC discounts through Game Pass, with subscribers instead earning reward points.

As spotted by CharlieIntel last week, Game Pass Ultimate members could previously receive a 10 percent discount on Call of Duty add-on content. However, this discount has since been removed alongside Microsoft’s decision to increase the price of its top tier subscription.

In a statement shared with Eurogamer, Microsoft has now confirmed the removal of this discount, adding the change isn’t specific to Call of Duty.

The “Best Deal in Gaming” Just Keeps Getting Worse Watch on YouTube

“This is not specific to any one game and reflects all games and DLC purchases,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

“Instead of a discount on the purchases, Ultimate and Premium subscribers will earn 10 percent and 5 percent – respectively – in points when purchasing select games and add-ons from the Game Pass library. Ultimate members continue to have 20 percent discount on select games from the Game Pass library. On top of that, all Rewards members will earn points when shopping games and add-ons on the Store, while Premium and Ultimate subscribers will earn even more, 2x and 4x respectively.”

Full details on the rewards programme can be found on the Microsoft website.

A further change has been made to the programme, though. Users are now no longer able to directly redeem earned points towards Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. Instead, you’ll need to earn enough points for a gift card in a denomination sufficient to cover the cost of the subscription, and use this to purchase.

Last week, Microsoft announced an increase in price of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription along with a shake of its tiers.

While it includes benefits such as Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, the subscription now costs 50 percent more than before. This change to DLC discounts is another alteration that will impact subscribers for the foreseeable across DLC packs for all games.

The changes to Game Pass come despite Microsoft making record revenue from subscriptions last year.

US offers $10M reward for snitching on trio of Russians that hacked critical infrastructure

by admin September 4, 2025

A trio of Russian hackers is probably about to find out who their friends really are. The U.S. Department of State announced a $10 million bounty for information about the hackers, who “conducted malicious cyber activities against U.S. critical infrastructure on behalf of the Russian government,” via its Rewards for Justice program.

The alleged hackers are Marat Valeryevich Tyukov, Mikhail Mikhailovich Gavrilov, and Pavel Aleksandrovich Akulovof. The State Department said in the X post announcing the bounty that the trio are officers in Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) who “targeted more than 500 foreign energy companies in 135 other countries.”

The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed indictments related to these hackers in 2022. In a press release, the department said that “between May and September 2017, the defendant and co-conspirators hacked the systems of a foreign refinery and installed malware […] to prevent the refinery’s safety systems from functioning (i.e., by causing the [industrial control system] to operate in an unsafe manner while appearing to be operating normally), granting the defendant and his co-conspirators the ability to cause damage to the refinery, injury to anyone nearby, and economic harm.”

The Register reported that Tyukov, Gavrilov, and Akulovof’s unit has been exploiting a vulnerability in Cisco equipment involving “the Smart Install feature of Cisco IOS and IOS XE software, a CVSS 9.8 flaw, and one that many end-of-life-kit can’t patch.” That vulnerability, which has been exploited by other groups, is tracked as CVE-2018-0171.

See the “2018” in that identifier? That’s not a random ID—it means the vulnerability was publicly disclosed seven years ago. Cisco released a patch that same year, so even if organizations are using old hardware that couldn’t be updated to the new software, they’ve had nearly a decade to purchase new equipment unaffected by this flaw.

The State Department’s post on X provided additional details about how to submit information about Tyukov, Gavrilov, and Akulovof via Tor. Similar bounties—some related to “malicious cyber activity,” others related to kidnapping, terrorism, and a blanket “North Korea” category—can be found on the Rewards for Justice website.

Arbitrum DRIP program launches to reward productive DeFi activity with ARB tokens

by admin September 4, 2025

Arbitrum has launched the DRIP program to incentivize productive DeFi activity by rewarding users with ARB tokens for leveraging lending and looping strategies across its ecosystem.

Summary

  • Arbitrum DRIP Season One incentivizes leverage looping strategies in lending markets, rewarding users with ARB tokens for borrowing and redepositing assets.
  • Eligible assets for collateral include major stablecoins (e.g., USDC, syrupUSDC) and ETH derivatives such as weETH and rsETH.
  • Participating protocols include Aave, Morpho, Fluid, Euler, Dolomite, and Silo, with rewards distributed across two-week epochs.

How Arbitrum DRIP program works

Arbitrum (ARB) has launched the DeFi Renaissance Incentive Program (DRIP), a $40 million initiative designed to encourage productive DeFi activity on its network. Managed by Entropy Advisors and powered by Merkl, Arbitrum DRIP program is structured across four seasons.

Season One, running from Sept. 3 to Jan. 20 focuses on leverage looping strategies in DeFi lending markets, where users can earn ARB tokens by borrowing against eligible ETH and stablecoin assets, redepositing them, and repeating the process to increase their exposure.

For example, a user could deposit syrupUSDC into a participating lending protocol, borrow USDC against it, then swap that borrowed USDC back into more syrupUSDC and redeposit it. By repeating this loop over the two-week epochs, users increase their total borrowed position, and their ARB rewards are calculated based on the time-weighted average borrow balance. Some markets also reward simply supplying assets like ETH derivatives (weETH, wstETH, rsETH) or stablecoins, not just borrowing.

To participate, users must bridge eligible assets to Arbitrum One, choose a participating market—such as Aave, Morpho, Fluid, Euler, Dolomite, or Silo—then deposit collateral, borrow and loop, and finally claim ARB rewards at the end of each two-week epoch.

Arbitrum DRIP program is designed in phases. The first two epochs serve as a discovery phase, allocating only 15% of the budget to identify which markets perform best. Following this, the performance phase rewards top-performing markets with a larger share of incentives, encouraging healthy competition and maximizing liquidity growth across Arbitrum’s DeFi ecosystem.

By incentivizing productive borrowing and looping activity, Arbitrum DRIP program is poised to increase the TVL across Arbitrum’s DeFi ecosystem, which currently stands at approximately $3.21 billion, according to DefiLlama. This places Arbitrum 7th in global DeFi TVL share at 2.1%, just behind Base.
