Deadlock’s latest update revives the game with massive player count increase

by admin August 24, 2025

After the initial player count boom that came with Deadlock Alpha access, the player count has steadily fallen. And, sure, it’s not publicly available yet, but the player count going from close to 200k at “launch” to around 10k before the latest update isn’t exactly ideal.

Deadlock has maintained a small yet loyal following through its lengthy Alpha. If you consider 10-15k players small, anyways. There’s pretty much never been a point where queues aren’t popping, and there are some people really grinding to learn ahead of the eventual release.

However, the average player moved on. Updates take months at this point, with the dev team generally shifting away from rapid changes to work on more substantial updates.

And, around 3 months after the last big update, the team really delivered. Between releasing 6 new heroes in the span of less than 2 weeks, new music, a UI overhaul, and, for those who haven’t played since last year, a completely new map. There’s a lot to love here, and players are Deadlocked in.

Deadlock earns players back with massive update

So, why are so many people returning to Deadlock all at once if the previous updates didn’t win them over?

At the time of writing, only three of the six revealed characters have been released. But that’s a key part of why player retention has been so high: Players get to vote for the next character they want, but they have to play matches in order to earn votes.

However, this wouldn’t mean anything if the game wasn’t fun. Fortunately, the new roster of heroes has players more engaged than ever.

The proposition of fun and exciting new characters combined with the ability to earn your way toward deciding who’s next seems to be a winning formula for player retention, but that’s not all. The UI, menus, music, and many of the character designs have had some massive quality of life improvements, especially if you’re someone who hasn’t played since last year.

Between the new map, an easier to access item system, 3 lanes instead of 4, and a whole lot of quality of life changes, it’s no surprise that players are hopping in and sticking around.

DeadlockThe Doorman is the newest Deadlock character at the time of writing, and he’s probably the closest thing we’re ever going to get to Portal 3.

Deadlock went from 14k peak players to around 28k in the day after the update, but it’s since catapulted all the way to 47k. This is the biggest peak Deadlock has had in months, and there are no signs of that momentum stopping.

While the game is nowhere close to a full release yet, Valve is putting their full force into making their vision for Deadlock a reality.

Arizona Senate Revives Bitcoin Reserve Bill After Rejection

by admin June 20, 2025

Arizona’s push to create a state-run Bitcoin reserve is back on track after a surprising turnaround in the state Senate. Lawmakers revived House Bill 2324 on Thursday with a 16-14 vote, moving it back to the House for reconsideration.

Initially rejected on May 7, the bill now has another shot, thanks to a motion filed by Republican Senator Janae Shamp, the only way a previously defeated bill can be revived. The vote mostly followed party lines, with Republican Jake Hoffman being the only GOP member to oppose it.

🇺🇸 ARIZONA Update:

‘Bitcoin Reserve’ bill HB2324, which initially failed, has been revived after a ‘motion to reconsider’.

The bill would create a fund out of digital assets seized via criminal asset forfeiture.

HB 2324 aims to create a “Bitcoin and Digital Assets Reserve Fund” to manage crypto assets seized through criminal forfeiture. If passed, the first $300,000 of such assets would go to the Attorney General’s office. Anything above that would be split, 50% to the AG, 25% to the state’s general fund, and 25% to the new reserve fund.

The bill would also expand Arizona’s asset forfeiture laws to include digital assets, detailing how they can be seized and stored when no rightful owner is found.

This comes after Governor Katie Hobbs signed HB 2749 on May 7, allowing Arizona to build a Bitcoin reserve without using taxpayer funds. The state can also stake the crypto or collect airdrops.

However, Hobbs vetoed two other crypto-related bills, including SB 1025, which proposed investing 10% of state funds in crypto, calling it too risky.

Now, all eyes are on the Arizona House, if it passes HB 2324, the bill heads straight to the Governor’s desk.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s latest patch is good news for madness fans, and should save you from auto-death after boss fight revives

by admin June 19, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign. It’s gotten another patch, and while not as beefy as you might like, it’s a box of bug fixes that you should know about. Especially if you’ve ever been fighting a Nightlord, gone down, been revived, and then immediately flopped back down dead.

Also, there’s a single balancing tweak which goes one step beyond to encourage the use of madness-infused weapons that I’m sure would look good with your baggy trousers.

As outlined in the notes for Version 1.01.3, the latest effort on FromSoft’s part to beat the bug bosses into submission via Carian code cutlasses, that sole balancing change is an increase to your chance of obtaining weapons with the madness status ailment. So, if you’ve yet to have a go at frenzying everything in sight, now’s your chance.

Delving into the bug fixes, one’s for an issue “where players would lose a battle after being revived from near death against a Nightlord or other Night bosses”. Judging by Reddit, this was just as frustrating to encounter as it sounds, with one player dubbing it a “hidden bossfight” and another likening it to psychological horror. A hidden bossfight in a FromSoft game that I’m not discovering via a video of a streamer beating it using a dance pad, cool.

Others rectify stuff like the Demon Merchant spawning near the Night’s Tide when you run into the Demon Merchant curse event, the damage dealt to some enemies when sniping weak points via Ironeye’s “Marking” skill not being right, and folks being able to nullify incoming Lightning Damage when affected by the Bolt of Gransax’s passive effect Power of the Great Ancient Dragon.

FromSoft also note that they’ve added “staff information” to the game’s credits, which is good to see. The final tweak I think it’s worth mentioning before directing you to check out the full notes if you want the rest is Steam-specific. It should stop the game freezing “momentarily or for an extended period in some environments” on PC, which is handy.

If you’ve not given Nightreign a go yet, make sure to check out Nic’s review of it and the stuff FromSoft has confirmed is coming to it down the road.
