Skate 4 Is Getting Savaged In Early Steam Reviews But These Clips Are Incredible

by admin September 17, 2025

Skate 4, officially titled “skate.” (seriously, EA?), arrived on Steam in Early Access yesterday. The reaction has been swift and harsh. Full Circle’s reboot of the beloved extreme sports sim franchise is getting hammered with negative reviews bashing it as “mostly empty, soulless, and constantly remind[ing] you to spend money” and “everything i didn’t want.” But then I see incredible clips of players doing ridiculous nonsense and I immediately become transfixed.

Skate 3 came out well before our current age of social media brain rot, but clips of Jesus shredding to Pearl Jam have still made it the stuff of internet legend. I have no idea if Skate 4—excuse me, I mean “skate.”—will be able to rekindle the same grungy magic of a lost skater age, but I can say, based on some of the new clips going viral, that it does not seem like an entirely lost cause.

Have I told you that you can also clap in mid-air to stop yourself from instantly falling? It’s a shame that EA fumbled the bag so badly at launch. The always-online requirement alone kept tons of players from being able to easily hop into the game on day one thanks to server outages and long queue times. A microtransaction shop also doesn’t seem like a good fit for plumbing the nostalgia of mid-2000s gaming when companies didn’t try to nickel and dime fun. Many of these issues can be solved. Content can be added. That’s the whole point of Early Access, after all. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a Skate 4 defender—ahem, I mean “skate.” apologist—or even brave the launch-week woes for yourself to feast on what other players are cooking up.

Borderlands 4 dev releases stability patch amid negative Steam reviews

by admin September 15, 2025

Borderlands 4’s PC community has been vocal about poor performance since launch, and a new patch released on September 13, 2025, aims to address some of those complaints.

The game’s launch on Steam saw thousands of negative user reviews complaining about low frame rates, stutters, and crashes, even on high‑end hardware. These issues dragged the game’s overall Steam user rating down to “Mixed”.

September 13 patch seeks stability boost

A Gearbox blog post accompanying the update stated that the September 13 patch focused on improving stability across a wide range of PC configurations.

To help with smoother performance, Gearbox and 2K have also released optimization guides for NVIDIA and AMD users. Owners of the former were advised to ensure their drivers are up to date, and to follow recommended settings for their GPU and resolution. AMD users were given similar guidance.

While the patch does not yet appear to have solved all reported issues – negative reviews critcizing performance have continued to appear on Steam following the patch – many have already expressed cautious optimism that stability has improved.

“Thanks again for joining us on this journey, Vault Hunters—we’re just getting started. We’re continuing to read your feedback, planning additional updates and will have more details to come,” Gearbox said in a statement.

Silksong reviews drop to mostly negative for Chinese players due to confusing translations

by admin September 8, 2025

For most Hollow Knight: Silksong players, the combat is challenging and the boss fights are punishing. However, there’s another layer of complexity for anyone playing the sequel in Simplified Chinese: the bizarre translations. On its Steam store page, Silksong currently sits at a “Mostly Positive” rating across reviews in all languages. Once you filter for the Simplified Chinese reviews, the Metroidvania-style game plummets to “Mostly Negative.”

There are plenty of complaints about Silksong being too hard and not rewarding enough, but the translation issues are a common theme across the reviews for Simplified Chinese. In the reviews and comments, players compared the translations to a jarring mix of ancient and modern Chinese. Tiger Tang, who worked on the Simplified Chinese translation of an indie RPG called OMORI, posted on X that the “translation reads like a Wuxia novel instead of conveying the game’s tone,” referencing the literary genre that features martial arts and is often set in ancient China.

The good news is that the team behind Silksong is aware of the translation issues, as indicated by Matthew Griffin, who handles the game’s marketing and publishing. Griffin posted on X that the team is aware of “quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation” and that they are “working to improve the translation over the coming weeks.” When looking at the original Hollow Knight, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, even when looking at the Simplified Chinese reviews. However, Silksong credits a team of two for its Chinese localization, while the original featured six.

Team Cherry working on “quality issues” with Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Simplified Chinese translation, following mixed Steam reviews

by admin September 6, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong developers Team Cherry are “working to improve” the game’s Simplified Chinese translation, following “quality issues” which have seen its Steam user reviews from those speaking the language drop to “mixed”.

As you can easily see thanks to Steam’s recent introduction of language-specific review splits, the mixed reviews are unique to the 6,382 people who’ve left verdicts in Simplified Chinese so far. For every other language, including Traditional Chinese, the impressions being left are either mostly or overwhelmingly positive, though it’s worth noting that a sizeable number are more shows of support for Team Cherry than proper reviews, being based on less than an hour’s playtime.

Team Cherry have clearly spotted this, with the studio’s marketing and publishing director Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin having posted a message to Chinese-speaking Skongers. “We appreciate you letting us know about quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation of Hollow Knight: Silksong,” he tweeted. “We’ll be working to improve the translation over the coming weeks. Thanks for your feedback and support.”

Issues with this translation of metroidvania were flagged online as early as its recent Gamescom demo in late August, with one user describing it as “terrible” and adding “if there are no changes in the official version, I am afraid there is a risk of bad reviews”.

Another user in that thread added: “If the demo’s text reflects what we’ll see in the final release, I must say the translation style in the demo differs greatly from the first game. Many lines feel unnatural, and some are even quite awkward or confusing in Chinese.”

According to our Guides Writer Jeremy, who’s half-Chinese and categorises his knowledge of the language as moderate with speaking fluency, the unnaturalness of the translation appears to stem from the use of classical grammar, a bit like an English translation which uses words like ‘thee’ and ‘thou’. Shakespearean Skong. Sounds like it could be a fun time, were you not just trying to lose yourself in a game you’ve waited ages for.

Wherefore art thou, Eric Barone cameo?

Here’s hoping Team Cherry’s planned translantion tweaks do let Chinese players enjoy jumping about as Hornet as much as many other Steam reviewers appear to be, without being subjected to bardly prose.
