Borderlands 4 Reveals $70 Price Tag After $80 Online Drama

After weeks of online discourse, drama, apologies, and bad posts, the price tag for the next major Borderlands game has finally been revealed by publisher 2K Games. Turns out, Borderlands 4 won’t cost $80 after all. Instead, the looter shooter sequel is launching with a $70 label.

Firefight’s Back In Halo! What Is Firefight?

On June 16, pre-orders went live for Borderlands 4. The massive-looking RPG FPS, which was announced last year, is set to arrive on consoles and PC on September 12, nearly two weeks earlier than originally planned. The standard edition of the game will cost $70, as confirmed by 2K in a press release. But because this is a modern video game released by a large publisher, there are two more versions available as well. The $100 Deluxe Edition comes with extra cosmetic goodies and post-launch DLC. And the $120 Super Deluxe Edition includes all of what’s in the Deluxe Edition as well as access to future Story Packs that will include new playable vault hunters.

Last month, the price of Borderlands 4 became a hot topic because of Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. On May 9, after Nintendo and Xbox had announced $80 video games like Mario Kart World, Pitchford told fans at PAX East that a price was going to be announced soon. He also claimed to have no idea what the price would be, but assured people that the game would be worth it.

Then, on May 20, Pitchford really stepped in it. When a fan asked him on social media about a possible $80 price tag on Borderlands 4, he infamously replied: “If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.” This went over poorly with the internet. A few days later he said he didn’t mean to sound like an asshole. A week later, he posted a 573-word tweet apologizing and explaining that he just meant that Borderlands 4 would be fine even with the higher price tag, and that he didn’t intend to set off a firestorm of controversy and discourse.

That brings us to today, where 2K has finally confirmed that Borderlands 4 is only $70. After all that hoopla and online drama, it turns out the game is going to cost what nearly every other AAA video game in 2025 costs: $70, plus tax. Was any of that worth it in the end? Not really. But hey, at least Borderlands 4 isn’t going to hold the game hostage and force you to pay a ransom fee to play a few days early. That’s nice!

Borderlands 4 launches (for everyone, at the same time) September 12 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

Liverpool Tops UK Charts As Crypto Kingpin, Survey Reveals

According to a new Openreach study, Liverpool has climbed to the top of the UK’s list for regular cryptocurrency investing. About 13% of people in the city say they put money into crypto and check stocks on a regular basis. In London, 24% of residents use dating apps at least three days a week, compared with just 4% across Britain as a whole.

Liverpool Takes Crypto Lead

Based on reports from the survey, Liverpudlians are more likely than anyone else in Britain to log on and manage digital assets. That 13% figure outstrips every other city in the study. It suggests a strong local appetite for things like Bitcoin and Ethereum, even as markets wobble. Many people in Liverpool said they check prices several times a week, and some log in every day just to see what’s happening.

Daily Online Time Remains High

According to the findings, the average person in the UK spends about three-and-a-half hours online each day. About 20% of respondents admitted they spend over five hours a day in front of screens. Weekends don’t change much. When asked when they log on most, 64% said they’re active between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Of those late‑night users, 19% head straight to YouTube. That pattern hints at a mix of work‑shift browsing and just plain night‑owl habits.

Northern Cities Show Their Stripes

In Manchester, 27% of residents say they use Instagram regularly, more than anywhere else. Sheffield stands out in two areas: 32% of its people scroll through TikTok often, and 30% stream music every day. Sheffield households also top the list for time online, with 32% spending more than five hours a day on the internet. By comparison, only 11% of people in Brighton hit that mark.

Signs Of Screen Fatigue

The survey also found growing web‑use worries. About 43% of Britons feel they waste time online, and 37% worry about “doom‑scrolling.” A third (33%) say they’d feel more relaxed if they cut back on their screen hours. These figures show a real push for balance, as people juggle work chats, social feeds and streaming services.

Experts say these regional differences could guide local projects and advertisers. Openreach’s deputy CEO, Katie Milligan, added that while it’s great to see how areas adapt to life online, it’s even better that many recognize the need to switch off now and then. This mix of heavy use and self‑awareness paints a clear picture: Britain is more connected than ever, but many are ready for a digital breather.

Whichever way you slice it, OnePlus is enjoying a fruitful 2025. Just a few months after the OnePlus 13 sailed onto our list of the best phones money can buy, the OnePlus Watch 3 became one of the best Android smartwatches around, and the newly announced OnePlus Pad 3 looks set to feature prominently in our guide to the best Android tablets.

All three of those products are flagships in their respective categories, but OnePlus is now gearing up for its annual swipe at the mid-range tech market.

In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, Celina Shi, Chief Marketing Officer at OnePlus Europe, revealed the names and details of five new mid-range OnePlus products heading to stores in July – specifically the OnePlus Nord 5, OnePlus Nord CE5, OnePlus Buds 4, OnePlus Pad Lite, and OnePlus Watch 3 43mm.

TechRadar: What do you see as the key USP of the OnePlus Nord series in 2025, in terms of both its place in the OnePlus portfolio and the wider mid-range smartphone market?

Celina Shi: The OnePlus Nord Series is our mid-range smartphone series designed to offer a balance of flagship features at an affordable price. It’s become much-loved by a significant number of our community who enjoy its fun and more playful tone. The OnePlus Nord Series is bolder in color and style than our flagship Series and offers a real opportunity for people to demonstrate their personal identity through the devices and its brand.

In July this year, I’m pleased to announce that OnePlus will launch two new devices in the OnePlus Nord series: the OnePlus Nord 5 and the OnePlus Nord CE5. The latest series is a performance powerhouse that offers endless endurance, allowing you to play and create all day and night.

CS: The new OnePlus Nord 5 is what we’re calling a double-punch – it has an exceptional camera and an exceptional chipset.

While you’ll have to wait to find out about the camera, I can confirm that the OnePlus Nord 5 will include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, an unfairly high-spec chipset for the mid-range market.

The OnePlus Nord 5 is equipped with LPDDR5X RAM and an advanced 7,300mm² CryoFlex Liquid Cooling System, ensuring consistently smooth performance even under pressure.

For the gamers, OnePlus Nord 5 will also support Battlegrounds Mobile India at native 90 frames per second to 144fps with frame rate interpolation, meaning smooth gaming and less lag.

We’ve included all of these features as our core OnePlus Nord audience wants a fast and smooth experience, since they use their smartphones for creating, gaming, and multitasking. As these types of activities get more complex with more processing load, we’ve doubled down on our chipset to ensure we deliver the signature fast and smooth experience that we’ve become famous for.

TR: Both new Nord models feature a vertical camera array. Why the move back to this orientation on the flagship model this year?

CS: With any smartphone, there is always negotiation between aesthetic design and what’s physically possible within those parameters. As tech components evolve, so too will our design to make the best-looking products that function optimally.

Our design concept for all of our devices is grounded in consumer insight. Following a global survey conducted across Europe, North America, India, and China, we found that our target audience places strong emphasis on practicality in design.

They consistently prefer styles that are brief, simple, and elegant. In response to this, in the OnePlus Nord Series this year, we are offering a Nordic-inspired design that reflects these values and resonates with our consumers globally.

With that in mind, I’ll exclusively reveal to you one color each for the OnePlus Nord 5 and the OnePlus Nord CE, which will launch in Europe on July 8: the OnePlus Nord 5 will launch in Dry Ice, and the OnePlus Nord CE 5 in Marble Mist.

TR: Are you confident that users will embrace the new Plus Key and Plus Mind interface on the Nord 5 series?

CS: We’re really excited about the new Plus Key, the extension of OnePlus’ personalized AI experience. The Plus Key is not a removal of our Alert Slider, it’s a natural evolution to allow it to be more capable, more intuitive to use, and now highly customizable. The Plus Key is a customizable button programmable for various actions like switching sound profiles, launching the camera, initiating translation, or starting recordings.

The Plus Mind interface sits perfectly alongside our Plus Key and is the first step to building a truly personalized smartphone experience with AI. Users can simply press the Plus Key to recognize screen content and add it as a ‘memory’. This includes actions like saving on-screen content, suggesting schedules to be added into a calendar, storing on-screen content into Mind Space, and searching with a conversational prompt via AI Search.

Beyond simple screen capture, AI Plus Mind leverages AI to analyze content contextually. For instance, it can extract schedule details from an image or text and add them directly to the user’s calendar. AI Search, integrated with AI Plus Mind, supports natural language queries for easy retrieval of saved content.

TR: With mid-range smartphones improving in quality every year, how does OnePlus distinguish between mid-range and flagship in 2025?

CS: At OnePlus, our vision is to empower the world through better technology. We launched the OnePlus Nord series to make cutting-edge technology, including the OnePlus Fast & Smooth experience, accessible to more people. Therefore, when we look at the OnePlus Nord Series offering, we try to balance flagship technology with an affordable price.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Reveals Surprise Multiplayer Mode

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater isn’t just a 4K remake of the original PlayStation 2 game, it turns out. The Unreal Engine 5 upgrade of MSG 3 is also getting some entirely new content, including a multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt.

Revealed during a Konami Press Start showcase on Thursday, Fox Hunt takes place online in the same world as the single-player story but with different gameplay. Mode director Yu Sahara, who’s worked on Metal Gear in the past, distinguished it from Metal Gear Online, a multiplayer spin-off of Metal Gear Solid 4 that featured tactical stealth takes on traditional scenarios like team deathmatch and capture the flag.

“The landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot,” he said during the livestream. Indeed it has, but the most appealing about Metal Gear getting multiplayer again is how old-school it might end up feeling compared to the current glut of extraction shooters, battle royales,and battle passes. Here’s a quick teaser from the showcase:

Instead of bringing that back, Sahara and the team at Konami worked on updating what Metal Gear Online might look like decades later. The focus will still be on camouflage and staying hidden before choosing the right time to go after an objective or surprise an opponent, and footage in a brief teaser showed characters getting into what look like small D-Walker-type mechs on the battlefield. Also lots of operatives crawling around in leaf shrouds.

Konami didn’t have anything else to reveal about the mode other than it will be arriving with the rest of Metal Gear Solid Delta at launch on August 28. In addition to Fox Hunt, the remake also features a Snake vs. Bomberman mode and one where he has to round-up monkeys from Ape Escape. Despite the new content, however, much of the base game appears to be an exceedingly faithful retread of the 2000s-era stealth thriller, just with modern controls and other tweaks to make it more approachable for new audiences. The original is still available to play as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection released back in 2023.

Japanese game developer reveals most of their employees use generative AI

Japanese game dev studio Colopl polled 357 of their employees, with them asking how much of their work they’ve been giving to generative AI. Their polling results revealed over 80% of their employees are using it in some capacity.

Generative AI has been a touchy subject, with some advancements in AI tech promising to make workloads much easier, which could mean the need for fewer employees at some point.

Colopl, a dev team in Japan, wanted to see how much AI tools were actually changing their workplace, so they polled 357 of their employees to ask about whether or not AI is useful and how often they use it.

According to their results, 80% of the polled group was using AI tools in some capacity to optimize their workflow, with some of them claiming that they’ve been able to reduce work hours by up to 60%

Japanese game dev studio gets huge boost from generative AI

Colopl, the studio behind popular mobile games in Japan like Dragon Quest Walk and Neko Golf has many of their employees working with generative AI.

According to a report from Japanese news outlet Otaku Souken, the survey results reveal that 80% of their company on average uses AI, with most of them using it as a sort of idea board to help generate new concepts and quickly get mock-ups for something they’re working on.

However, people polled also claimed that their writing and coding had been aided by AI. 40% of those polled claimed it reduced the amount of working hours they had by 40%, and 20% claimed a reduction of 60%. Some employees even used these tools outside of work to “ask about things that cannot be said to others” or just for someone to chat with.

“I have the AI ​​create answers to my wife’s questions,” one polled employee said.

“I no longer feel lonely because I have someone to talk to even when I work from home,” said another.

“The age will come when we will be dominated by AI, so I use polite language to curry favor,” claimed an employee whose answer reads like someone who believes in Roko’s Basilisk.

Among the 20% of employees who don’t use any AI tools, they claimed that they either didn’t feel like they needed it or had ethical issues with its use.

Time To Long Bitcoin? Market Expert Reveals When $600,000 BTC Will Happen

Bitcoin is still trending above $100,000 despite the market crash triggered by the Israel-Iran war, but it has yet to dissuade investors from expecting higher prices. One of those who has called for higher prices is crypto market expert Ansem, who has called for higher Bitcoin prices. He lists out some major developments that could spur an increase in the price of the cryptocurrency, suggesting a possible 500% increase from here.

The $600,000 Bitcoin Target

In an analysis, crypto analyst Ansem, also known as blknoiz, gave reasons why he believes that the Bitcoin price could be headed. The first reason given for this is the fact that the likes of Michael Saylor’s Strategy continue to accumulate Bitcoin in large quantities. It is not the only company buying the asset, with others such as GameStop also joining the buying spree. This is expected to keep pushing the price of Bitcoin upwards as these companies are more likely to hold for a long time.

The second in the list of reasons is that there are growing global concerns when it comes to accessing stores of value not controlled by the government. Given BTC’s decentralized nature, it enables holders to have complete control, free of government oversight, as well as move value away from more fiat sources such as the US dollar and debt.

Next in the line is the fact that the gold market cap is above $23 trillion despite being an unlimited asset. In contrast, Bitcoin’s fixed supply of 21 million BTC, as well as its being able to be easily transferred across nation states, makes it a better store of value over the long term.

Macro Factors Supporting A Bitcoin Surge

Other macro factors that are contributing to the long-term bullishness of Bitcoin are the fact that there is improving regulatory oversight over the crypto market. This has brought the market toward the mainstream, with sentiment skewing toward the positive lately.

Bitcoin has also been able to shed off the tariff fears despite a massive sell-off triggering a 30% crash to $75,000 earlier in the year. It is currently still holding support above $100,000, showing strength here. This, coupled with the fact that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is moving to cut government spending, has made BTC a rather attractive asset to hold.

Given all of this, the crypto expert believes that the Bitcoin price could rise 500% to reach $600,000. This would put the digital asset at a market cap between $10 and $12 trillion, and the timeline for this is expected to be sometime in 2028.

The ongoing debate around TikTok’s legal status in the United States isn’t just about national security—it’s about control. With millions of creators relying on TikTok for visibility and income, the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the platform’s future highlights the significant impact centralized platforms can have on creators’ livelihoods. In these environments, key aspects of a creator’s presence—from monetization to content accessibility—are shaped by decisions that may not always align with their interests.

TikTok’s situation highlights a broader issue. In recent years, creators on web2 platforms have faced abrupt policy shifts that have significantly impacted their earnings and reach. The YouTube ‘Adpocalypse’ of 2016-2017, for example, saw a wave of videos demonetized due to revised advertising policies. Likewise, Patreon’s fee structure changes in 2017 raised concerns among smaller creators. In 2018, platform-wide content policy updates on Tumblr disrupted longstanding communities. Even changes to Instagram’s algorithm have altered how and whether creators’ content reaches their audiences, often without transparency or recourse.

These examples reflect a recurring pattern: creators on centralized platforms often have limited control over the environments in which they operate. In such systems, policies, algorithms, and monetization options are subject to frequent change, and creators rarely have a say in the process.

While decentralized platforms have yet to become mainstream alternatives, they offer a promising path forward. Decentralized platforms can offer creators greater control over their content and its management. Permanent storage is ideal for preserving essential content such as posts and profiles, while temporary storage enables fast, flexible delivery of dynamic or short-lived data. By combining both models, creators can optimize their digital presence for speed, accessibility, and resilience.

The next generation of platforms must prioritize user experience, offering seamless integration with familiar tools, intuitive interfaces, and the reliability that users have come to expect. Web3 won’t displace web2 overnight, but it can offer creators an empowering alternative built on transparency, autonomy, and sustainability.

Decentralized storage solutions, such as Arweave, enable creators to maintain long-term access to their content while reducing their dependence on centralized gatekeepers. This model not only increases resilience against censorship or algorithmic suppression but also opens up new opportunities for monetization that are not tied to the priorities of large tech corporations.

To succeed, web3 solutions must go beyond ideology. They need to deliver concrete improvements, such as more efficient uploads, scalable storage, and interfaces that fit into creators’ existing workflows without forcing them to start from scratch.

Sam Altman doesn’t think you should be worried about ChatGPT’s energy usage – reveals exactly how much power each prompt uses

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman has revealed ChatGPT’s energy usage for a single prompt, and while it’s lower than you might expect, on a global scale, it could have a significant impact on the planet.

Writing on his blog, Altman said, “The average query uses about 0.34 watt-hours, about what an oven would use in a little over one second, or a high-efficiency lightbulb would use in a couple of minutes. It also uses about 0.000085 gallons of water; roughly one-fifteenth of a teaspoon.”

While that might not sound like a lot as an isolated prompt, ChatGPT has approximately 400 million active weekly users, and that number is growing at a rapid rate. Bear in mind there’s a growing amount of AI tools and chatbots on the market, including Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, so general AI energy usage will be even higher.

Last month, we reported on a study from MIT Technology Review which found that a five-second AI video uses as much energy as a microwave running for an hour or more. While Altman’s ChatGPT prompt energy usage reveal is nowhere near as high as that, there are still concerns considering how much people interact with AI.

We rely on AI, so is this energy consumption a concern?

There’s a constant concern about ChatGPT’s energy consumption, and it is becoming increasingly vocal as AI usage continues to rise. While Altman’s blog post will put some minds at ease, considering the relatively low energy and water usage in isolation, it could also spark more uproar.

Earlier this week, a mass ChatGPT outage led to millions of people unable to interact with the chatbot. Over the 10 hour plus period, I received emails from thousands of readers who gave me a new perspective on AI.

While I’d be lying if I said AI’s energy consumption doesn’t concern me, it would be unfair to overlook the positives of the technology and how it is improving the lives of millions.

The climate crisis is not limited to me and you, but unfortunately, it’s the working class that ultimately pays the price. ChatGPT’s energy consumption at a mass scale may be a severe problem in the future, but then again, so are the private jets flying 10-minute flights.

The AI climate concerns are not black and white, and those who criticise the impact of the technology on the planet are equally vocal about the impact of other technologies. That said, we’re only at the beginning of the AI revolution, and energy consumption will continue to rise. At what point should we be worried?

New Dragon Age: The Veilguard report reveals more about turbulent development, including Forspoken-prompted shift from snark to seriousness

A fresh report has shed a bit more light on Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s famously difficult time in development, offering info on culture clashes between BioWare’s different teams, and revealing that the game was re-written due to concerns about its banter being too snarky.

The report, from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, goes through the whole sordid story of Veilguard’s journey from in-the-works single player game, to in-the-works online thing, back to in-the-works single player thing, parts of which you’re likely familiar with at this point. There’s also a bunch of context as to how wider events across the studio and publisher EA influenced the game that ended up hitting shelves after a decade or so of development.

The new revelations tell how the tone of the game’s dialogue, as well as the choices and consequences, had to be revamped following the switch from multiplayer back to single player in 2020.

Schreier emphasises that this shift didn’t come with a full reset of the project, which meant developers had to work on something with lots of vestigial features intended for an entirely different type of game.

An alpha build at the end of 2022 flagged that testers believed Veilguard didn’t have satisfying or meaty enough choices and consequences to live up to BioWare’s previous works, another problem attributed to the game having been designed for multiplayer, according to the devs Schreier spoke to. Cue extra work to add in more choices, including an important choice between saving two cities, and a struggle to ensure these decisions played into the narrative further down the road.

The report also cites concerns about the reception to the dialogue of Square Enix’s Forspoken as having led to a rewrite for Veilguard’s chatter. This was an attempt to drag it away from the “snarky tone” that’d been pencilled in as part of the multiplayer vision, and instead “make it sound more serious”. Similarly, the game’s June 2024 reveal trailer reportedly raised concerns about EA’s ability to market the game in a way that didn’t feel a bit Fortnitey.

There’s also plenty of detail regarding “internal friction” between Dragon Age tream that were originally working on the game and the Mass Effect team EA drafted in for the project’s final push around 2023, with cultural differences between the two teams adding to what sounds like it was already a pretty unpleasant mix of pressuresand forces at play.

In the aftermath of Veilguard and the layoffs at BioWare that followed its release, a smaller team’s left beavering away on on Mass Effect 5, with plenty of questions still hanging over the RPG studio’s future. It’s a sad state of affairs to put it mildly, especially given that while it definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – I found what I played to be decent fun and you can read Nic’s verdict here – the version of Veilguard we got was far from a complete trainwreck.

After a weekend packed with game reveals, I can’t stop thinking about Clockwork Revolution’s time-traveling shenanigans

Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase was pretty stacked, but one game stood out from the crowd with a five-and-a-half minute preview: Clockwork Revolution, the steampunk RPG shooter from the studio behind Wasteland 3 and Torment: Tides of Numenera.

It’s got all the brash humor I’ve come to expect from inXile in the most ambitious-looking game it’s done yet. Whether the team hits the mark, I’m not sure I care right now: the ideas they’re working with are so bold, they have my full attention.

On the surface, Clockwork Revolution looks like an RPG-ified, steampunk take on BioShock. Combat is all elaborate brass guns, grenades that shoot out bolts of electricity, and a magic glove that comes with all sorts of time-warping powers. They give some examples in the trailer: bullet time, a personal rewind a la Overwatch’s Tracer, and the power to rebuild a crumbled stack of bricks in the environment for use as cover. The gunplay implications are well and good, but the time travel also saw narrative play in ways that left me dying to know more.

There’s a quick flyby of a spot in Avalon that repeats a few times, but the scene is different with each replay. Different banners fly, statues of different people tower over a town square, and the narrator remarks he can “go back in time to change the past, to change the future.”

It’s possible these are canned set pieces along a linear path, but inXile promises that “choices will have a butterfly effect” on the world and its characters. Mixing an open-ended choice-and-consequence RPG with time travel seems almost irresponsibly daring, but what galls me is the trailer had even more to say. It was a full five-and-a-half minutes, after all.

There’s a glimpse at character creation, kitted out with as many different stats and character backgrounds as suitably huge mustaches. We also get a look at a weapon modding interface, a glut of glossy story cutscenes, dialog trees, and newspaper headlines that shift with the changing story.

The shootouts I mentioned earlier looked to be no slouch either, and there were some brief platforming segments where the time-bending was used to slow down hazards. I shouldn’t be surprised that inXile is taking a big swing—Wasteland 3 is one of the slicker CRPGs in recent memory—but the extent to which Clockwork Revolution aims for the fences has me pretty tantalized. I’m a little worried it’s trying to do too much, but I’d rather a game be messy and exciting than dull and safe.
