👻 Ghost Month Returns: Will Bitcoin Buck the Trend?

Ghost Month begins in 3 days.

And historically, that’s been bad news for Bitcoin.

📌 What Happened

The 7th lunar month, known as Ghost Month, kicks off this weekend (Aug 23 – Sep 20).

In many Asian cultures, it’s a time when spirits are believed to roam the earth – and when investors traditionally avoid making big financial moves.

This superstition has bled into markets, and the data backs it up:

  • Since 2015, Bitcoin has averaged a -12% return during Ghost Month.
  • Some of the worst selloffs came in 2017 (-39.8%) during China’s ICO ban, and in 2021 (-23%) following the mining crackdown.
  • Even in bull years, like 2019 and 2024, the pattern held: mid-month drawdowns of 12-19% before late recoveries.
  • On average, trading volumes dip in Asia, liquidity thins, and volatility spikes.

So far in 2025, Bitcoin has already slid about 10% from its $124K peak, with open interest dropping sharply. And notably, it’s sold off during the Korean open (~7 pm ET) every day this week.

📝 By The Numbers

Here’s a year-by-year breakdown of Bitcoin’s performance during Ghost Month since 2015.

Bitcoin has averaged -12% during Ghost Month over the past 10 years

Yeah – it’s not great.

🧠 Why It Matters

Of course, past performance is not representative of the future.

But… a 10-year sample size with similar outcomes seems telling.

The wildcard this year – Powell speaks at Jackson Hole just a day before Ghost Month kicks off.

If he signals rate cuts are coming in September, then this might be the best Ghost Month in Bitcoin’s history.

If he’s overly hawkish – there’s a good chance Ghost Month plays out.

That means choppy price action and more dips.

But there’s also a silver lining.

History suggests that while Ghost Month often delivers pain in the short term, it can also set the stage for powerful rebounds once sentiment clears (i.e. 2017 and 2021).

So these Ghost Month dips are for buying.

Now let’s just hope things don’t get too spooky…

Chamath Palihapitiya Returns With $250M SPAC Targeting AI

by admin August 20, 2025

Chamath Palihapitiya, former Facebook executive and once-called SPAC king, is making a high-profile return with American Exceptionalism Acquisition Corp. A, a $250 million blank-check company.

The special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) will seek mergers in artificial intelligence (AI), decentralized finance (DeFi), energy production, or defense, according to its latest regulatory filing.

As per the filing, the plan is to offer 25 million shares at $10 each. It will be listed under the ticker ‘AEXA’ on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and Banco Santander will lead the offering. Further, Steven Trieu, Group CFO at venture firm Social Capital, has been appointed as the CEO, with Palihapitiya acting as Chairman.

Palihapitiya, Founder of Social Capital, has invested in key startups across these sectors, including AI firm Groq, clean-energy company Palmetto Clean Technology, and defense innovator Saildrone Inc. He also backs crypto-related ventures and has been a long-time advocate of Bitcoin, blockchain, and stablecoins.

Investors are chasing high-growth sectors. CoreWeave Inc. shares have jumped 132% since March, Nvidia Corp. added $1.1 trillion in market value over the past year, and DeFi platforms like Circle Internet Group Inc. and Bullish surged after recent IPOs. Defense stocks, including Palantir Technologies Inc., soared nearly 400% in the past year.

Despite the excitement, Palihapitiya warned retail investors about the high risks, noting that five of his previous SPACs, including Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc., lost significant value post-merger.

Experts say Palihapitiya’s profile and connections could help the SPAC succeed. Louis Camhi of RLH Capital noted that “serial dealmakers like Chamath often attract investors eager for high-growth exposure.”

Jay Ritter, finance professor at the University of Florida, added that the SPAC’s success depends on finding a quality target at a fair price.

Alyssa Ashcroft Returns In New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer

by admin August 19, 2025

Resident Evil Requiem will follow a new heroine, Grace Ashcroft, but that last name should ring a bell for any fans of the Outbreak series. In a new trailer shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 today, we get to see a little bit of Grace’s backstory and history with her mom, Resident Evil Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft.

Alyssa is a field reporter and playable character from the Outbreak series, now playing a major role in Resident Evil Requiem. She’s the mother of Requiem’s lead, Grace Ashcroft, and looks to be on the run from some dangerous foes. After a mysterious phone call and a power outage, we get a brief look at a playable section where the player, as Grace, follows Alyssa through the darkened and foreboding hotel hallways.

Spare a thought for the world’s most doomed hotel manager, as a terrible fate befalls him, and the pair escape. Seeing the dynamics between mother and daughter here seems to emphasize this as a thematic thread for the main game, but we’ll have to wait and see for more.

The wait’s not that long, though, as Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Requiem’s release date during this year’s Summer Game Fest back in June. The next mainline entry arrives on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more on it, check out our preview from SGF 2025.

IGN Entertainment returns as official partner of Gamescom Studio

by admin August 19, 2025

IGN is the official partner for Gamescom Studio for the seventh consecutive year, and this year’s show promises to be even bigger and better.

In addition to Gamescom Studio delivering live programming in English and German from IGN’s production booth in Hall 7, IGN is expanding its local-language offerings for audiences in Japan and China via IGN Japan and IGN China.

English-language programming will stream globally across IGN Entertainment’s portfolio, including IGN, Eurogamer, and Rock Paper Shotgun. GamesIndustry.biz will also be covering the event.

German-language programming will be available via IGN Germany and Eurogamer Germany, while Japanese and Chinese programming will premiere across IGN Japan and IGN China.

This year’s event will include premieres of major titles including Borderlands 4, Infinity Nikki, Stalker, High on Life 2, Marvel’s Deadpool VR, Anno 117: Pax Romana, and Invisible Vs.

The Gamescom Award show will also take place on the Gamescom Studio stage on Friday, August 22, with streaming beginning from 3pm CEST/9am EDT/6am PDT.

“Our collaboration with Gamescom has grown into one of IGN Entertainment’s most cherished annual traditions,” said IGN Entertainment president Yael Prough.

“This year, we’re taking it even further with localised programming in Japan and China, ensuring more gamers than ever can experience the magic of the show in their own language.”

Gamescom director Tim Endres added: “The partnership with IGN now builds on many years and we are once again happy to have the team back in Cologne. The extension by the IGN Japan and IGN China team only underlines the importance of these markets for the event as we see growing interest by Asia companies and audiences.

“As part of Gamescom’s hybrid approach to the event, IGN trustfully helps us to bring the Gamescom Studio and therefore the Gamescom experience to gaming communities around the world.”

The Gamescom Studio livestream begins at 12pm CEST/6am EDT/3am PDT on Wednesday, August 20, and throughout the week until 5pm CEST/11am EDT/8am PDT on Sunday, August 24.

Jack Black returns as Officer Dick in THPS 3+4

by admin June 26, 2025

The Mario movie. The Minecraft movie. The Borderlands movie. Jack Black is everywhere in pop gaming culture lately, and will even make another appearance (well, technically two) in next month’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake. Black will reprise his role as Officer Dick, in addition to voicing Constable Richard, Dick’s UK counterpart, in the game’s London level.

As a child, Dick, real name Richard Ennvee, “was mocked by other skaters and called a ‘poser,’” according to an Activision press release. “Overtaken by the need for revenge, Dick vowed to one day become what those skaters feared most – the long arm of the law!” Although the good constable doesn’t get as much of a lore drop, he is promised to be “every bit as hard-nosed and utterly ridiculous as Officer Dick.”

For those who don’t remember the officer from the older games, he’s been an unlockable character in the franchise since the original game, and remained as such until Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. He returned in Tony Hawk’s Project 8 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD before making an appearance in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 as Jables himself.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is out July 11 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

The Satoshi Of XRP Returns: Ripple Co-Founder Suddenly Breaks 14-Year Silence

by admin June 24, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The XRP community is in shock following the emergence of Ripple’s co-founder, Arthur Britto, after a 14-year silence. Britto has been inactive on the X platform over these years but is known to have played a major role in Ripple and the XRP Ledger’s (XRPL) development.

Ripple Co-Founder Makes First-Ever Post On X

Arthur Britto made his first ever post on the X platform on June 23, despite joining the platform in August 2011. His post was simply a blank face emoji, which got the XRP community wondering what it might mean and why exactly the Ripple co-founder has returned now. Britto has cut a mysterious figure, despite co-founding the crypto firm alongside Jed McCaleb and Chris Larsen.

Following Britto’s first X post, Ripple Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz confirmed that the Ripple co-founder wasn’t hacked or compromised. Well-known XRP Ledger Validator Vet also replied, saying ‘no way,’ expressing his shock at Britto’s remergence. Meanwhile, Pumpius, a prominent XRP community member, gave an overview of who Britto was.

In an X post, he first declared that the co-founder may be the “most important ghost in crypto history,” putting him ahead of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto, who remains a mystery. Pumpius further stated that Britto helped build the XRP Ledger to help create a neutral bridge asset capable of handling global liquidity.

Arthur Britto is also said to have designed the 100 billion XRP supply cap and co-authored the XRP whitepaper before he then disappeared without any trace on social media. Away from Ripple and the XRP Ledger, Pumpius revealed that Britto now runs PolySign. The company is working on building institutional custody, and Ripple allegedly has ties to PolySign.

Community Members Raise Price Angle

XRP community members also related Arthur Britto’s reemergence to the XRP price and what it could mean for the altcoin. Prominent community member Edo Farina said that the co-founder’s post has to be the “moon sign” that XRP holders have been waiting for, indicating that the price might soon surge.

Crypto influencer John Squire highlighted how the co-founder was the same person who once said that XRP was designed to reach $10,000. He then questioned if this was a coincidence or if something big was brewing. Squire went on to answer the question by highlighting how the XRP Ledger has recorded its highest transactions in four months this week.

He added that Britto’s appearance also coincides with “record on-chain volume, Ripple IPO rumors, and pre-bullrun conditions.” Based on this, he declared that the Ripple co-founder’s sudden burst into the scene is “not nothing” but most likely a pattern.

At the time of writing, the XRP price is trading at around $2.19, up over 7% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Enthusiast hacks FSR 4 onto RX 7000 series GPU without official AMD support, returns better quality but slightly lower fps than FSR 3.1

by admin June 18, 2025

A Reddit user has shared on r/radeon how they were able to run FSR 4 on their Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XTX, despite not being officially supported by AMD. Currently, FSR 4 only runs on AMD’s 9000-series GPUs because it requires architecture that isn’t readily available on older CPUs. However, Reddit user Virtual-Cobbler-9930 said that the latest Mesa update for Linux allows the older GPU to emulate FP8 precision via FP16, which FSR 4 uses for its machine learning-powered upscaling. This means that the 7900 XTX can run it even without the necessary hardware — albeit, at the cost of some performance.

Virtual-Cobbler-9930 used the OptiScaler DLL injection tool to force games to support FSR 4, which modders previously used to enable it manually in games that only supported DLSS 2 or XeSS. After that, you only need a couple of commands, and you’re golden. According to the user, a stable release of Mesa is expected to arrive by August, so these patches should be automated with the driver by then — that is, unless AMD asks them to remove the feature.

Aside from the RX 7900 XTX GPU, the user also had an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU set to a 65-watt limit and 128 GB of DDR5 RAM, running the Arch Linux operating system. They then tested three games with FSR 4 — Cyberpunk 2077, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Marvel Rivals. In general, FSR 4 was able to achieve a slightly better quality than FSR 3.1 in all titles and also provided better fps numbers compared to running the games in native 4K resolution.

FSR4 on RDNA3 (7900xtx) tests from r/radeon

The user says that the difference was massive with Cyberpunk 2077, especially as FSR 4 delivered better detail compared to regular FSR 3. However, this resulted in about a 33% drop in fps — from 85.06 average at quality preset to just 56.28 (which is still quite playable). He suggested enabling frame gen or lowering the quality if you want to get higher frame rates, as FSR 4.1 has no smirring and delivers better grass and bush texture for this title. We also get the same story with Oblivion — a drop in performance (this time from 46 to 36 fps) in exchange for slightly better quality. It’s only with Marvel Rivals that FSR 4 didn’t offer better visual quality to make the fps drop palatable.

However, FSR 4 on the RX 7900 XTX only makes sense when you’re playing at 4K resolution. If you scale down to a lower resolution, such as 1080p, you won’t get higher performance because of your hardware’s limitation. It’s likely for this reason, and the minor quality difference you get versus the performance hit you’ll take, that AMD did not implement FSR 4 in older tech. But if you’re one to push your gear to its limits, then you can try using this technique to run AMD’s latest upscaling tech on unsupported GPUs.

Nintendo Returns To Amazon After A Year Away

by admin June 17, 2025

Image: Amazon / Nintendo / Kotaku

For over a year now, online retailer Amazon hasn’t directly sold new first-party Nintendo games or accessories. It also skipped out on the Switch 2 launch. But over the weekend, the situation changed, and now some first-party Switch 2 games and accessories are available on the retailer.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Launch With Almost No Reviews

Back in April of last year, people began reporting that some pre-orders of then-upcoming first-party Switch games, like Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, were being canceled without warning. And players couldn’t re-order the upcoming games. Since then, Nintendo games have largely been unavailable for purchase directly from Amazon. Instead, when purchased on the site, they were sold and shipped via third-party sellers. And earlier this month, the Switch 2, its first-party launch games, and its official accessories, were similarly unavailable to pre-order on Amazon. It’s been a frustrating situation for gamers who rely on the online retailer. But it’s finally, possibly, coming to an end.

Over the weekend, as spotted by IGN and others, a handful of first-party Nintendo games popped up on Amazon and are being officially shipped and sold by the retail giant. Donkey Kong Bananza, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World are some of the first-party Nintendo games now available to pre-order directly from Amazon and Nintendo. This seems to indicate that the two companies have come to an agreement and ended the lockout. There was even a listing for the Switch 2, though that has been removed for now. But this all seems to point to Nintendo products and games returning fully to Amazon in the near future.

As for why Nintendo stopped selling new games and consoles on Amazon, there’s never been a confirmation from either company. Some fans speculate that Amazon was shipping games ahead of their release and that this led to leaks, but that has yet to be confirmed.
