Major US retailers cancel Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders

by admin June 4, 2025

Major retailers in the US have started contacting customers to inform them their Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have been canceled just days ahead of the console’s formal release.

Dozens of posts have appeared on social media from customers of Walmart, Target, and GameStop, complaining that their pre-orders have been canceled, sometimes without notice.

Some customers report that they have been told the retailers were “out of stock,” while others have been told there was a problem with processing payments, which they refute.

This Walmart customer service representative reportedly told one customer: “I regret to inform you that the order has been canceled due to a large number of orders.”

“We have identified a small group of customers whose orders were unfortunately affected by a system error,” Target has said in a statement to press. “We recognize how exciting this new product launch is, and are working to ensure these customers are taken care of.”

This news comes just days after UK games retailer GAME similarly issued a statement admitting it had to cancel “some” Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders last week. The company, which is owned by Sports Direct owner Frasers Group, did not explain why orders had to be canceled or clarify how many orders were affected, but apologized in a statement posted on its website and on social media, blocking replies.

Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to release worldwide on June 5. Nintendo has previously said it is committed to making its products “as obtainable as we possibly can” amid fluctuating market conditions due to the US tariffs.

Switch 2 US preorders reportedly cancelled by major retailers

by admin June 2, 2025

A number of would-be customers across the pond in the United States have experienced unexpected Switch 2 cancellations.

Posts on the likes of reddit and social media platform X show several patrons have had their Switch 2 orders cancelled from retailers such as Walmart and Target.

Mario Kart World Hands-On Preview: Is It Good? Watch on YouTube

“Just checked because I [saw] a post on X from Wario64 and it was about [making] sure payment is and all is good to go for when they are ready to ship.. I [checked] and my order got cancelled two days ago,” reads one reddit post titled Target cancelled my order. According to replies, the original poster is not the only one this has happened to.

Another post – Did anyone else’s Switch 2 preorder get cancelled out of nowhere? – shared on the Walmart subreddit said the same thing. “I just got an email saying it was canceled due to a payment error even though it was the same card I preordered it with,” it reads.

Even more examples of these Switch 2 cancellations can be found on X. “Walmart you have failed me for cancelling my switch 2 preorder when my payment method is valid and has funds available, give it back,” one poster wrote over the weekend.

While Walmart and Target seem to be the main retailers in the US to have cancelled Switch 2 orders, GameStop has also been namechecked online, although the problem doesn’t appear to be as widespread.

These reports follow last week’s news here in the UK, which saw retailer GAME admit it had cancelled a number of Switch 2 online pre-orders, with just days to go before the highly anticipated console’s release. At this time, GAME said it was aiming to “reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible”.

The Switch 2 is set to release later this week, on 5th of June. Eurogamer’s former EIC Tom Phillips has already been hands-on with Nintendo’s upcoming console. You can read his Switch 2 impressions here.

Here Are The Retailers Selling Nintendo Switch 2 On Launch Day Without Preorders

by admin May 28, 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here! It launches Thursday, June 5, alongside accessories like the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, the Nintendo GameCube Controller, the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, and other third-party gadgets. The big launch title is Mario Kart World, but other exciting games include new Switch 2 editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and more. However, in order to play these games and use these accessories, you’ll first have to overcome the hardest challenge: securing a Switch 2.

Here Are The Retailers Selling Nintendo Switch 2 On Launch Day Without Preorders

If you haven’t preordered a Switch 2 yet, you’ve already missed your window, as they are sold out at every retailer here in the U.S. However, most places that took a preorder for the console are also selling units on launch day. So we’ve gathered up all of those retailers into one handy list for you to bookmark below!

Target

Target has announced that it will not only be selling Switch 2 units on June 5, but that select stores will be holding a special launch event to celebrate the day. The event will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, presumably indicating Target will be skipping selling consoles at Midnight – we recommend lining up early the morning of June 5 if you want to nab a console.

If you miss an in-store purchase on June 5, fear not because Target will begin selling Switch 2 online the following day on June 6.

Best Buy

Best Buy will be holding midnight launches at most of its stores (and you can check out their website to find out if a Best Buy near you is doing one) where people who preordered can pick up their console. But those who didn’t preorder can also purchase a Switch 2 at midnight, as long as supplies last.

Here’s what the retailer announced: “In addition to fulfilling preorders, most stores will have limited inventory of systems, games, and accessories for in-store purchase. Customers will also have the chance to receive a commemorative coin.”

Unlike Target, Best Buy hasn’t revealed its plans for online shoppers so if you’re looking to secure a Switch 2 on launch day from Best Buy, head there Wednesday evening and get in line.

Costco

Costco will begin selling the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle on June 5, but it’s unclear if actual Switch 2 units will be available in-store that day or if their online listings go up that day. So keep an eye out on additional word from Costco, and if you’re thinking about picking up a Switch 2 from here, you should know they require a membership to shop in-store and online.

The cheapest Costco membership you can purchase to buy a Switch 2 costs $65 a year, plus tax. As a Costco member myself, it’s well worth the price if you like buying things in bulk (like diapers, packaged food, and more). Otherwise, spending $65 just for the chance to buy a Switch 2 might be risky and not worth the additional dollars.

Staples

Staples has announced select stores will have Switch 2 units for sale in-store on June 5. It says the console will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but that customers will be limited to just one console purchase. It will sell Switch 2 while supplies last, meaning it will likely sell out on June 5 so get there on launch day if you plan to pick one up here.

Head here for a list of all the Staples that will have Switch 2 on June 5.

Nintendo Stores

If you happen to live in New York City or San Francisco, the only two places in the U.S. with Nintendo Stores, both will be holding launch events on June 4. Nintendo says entry to each event is first come, first served, and it doesn’t sound like it guarantees a console. The San Francisco event begins at 1 p.m. PT and the New York City event starts at 3 p.m. ET.

“Following the celebration, there will be a separate Nintendo Switch 2 shopping session at each store at 9 p.m. PT/Midnight ET, which will require a Warp Pipe Pass,” Nintendo says.

Walmart

Walmart is currently the big unknown. The retailer took preorders for the Switch 2, but it hasn’t announced launch day plans for the console. If you preordered by a specific time, Walmart is guaranteeing your Switch 2 arrives on the launch day of June 5, but whether it will be selling consoles in-store or online that day remains a mystery.

We’ll be sure to update this story if we learn more about Walmart’s plans.

Amazon

Amazon did not take preorders for Switch 2, nor is the Switch 2 listed on the online retailer, so don’t expect to get this console from here.

The Switch 2 launches June 5.

While waiting for the console, check out the various stories Game Informer has about the Switch 2:

Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Preorders Restocked At Select Retailers

by admin May 25, 2025

Rather unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has been one of the most popular accessory add-ons for the upcoming console since preorders opened last month. Interest in Nintendo’s newest conventional controller has caused multiple retailers to sell out ahead of launch. With two weeks remaining until the Switch 2 arrives, preorders for the Pro Controller are currently available at Target and GameStop.

Depending on your location, you may be able to snag a preorder for in-store, launch-day pickup at Best Buy. The Switch 2 Pro Controller is fully sold out at Walmart, and it doesn’t appear as if it will be restocked prior to the controller’s (and console’s) June 5 launch.

Heads up: If you’re looking to grab an extra pair of Joy-Con 2 Controllers, you will likely need to wait until launch, as we have yet to see a retailer listing for pairs or single Joy-Con 2 Controllers that was actually eligible for preorder.

$85 | Releases June 5

The Switch 2 Pro Controller looks quite similar to the original, but it does have a few notable new features: a pair of remappable back buttons, a C button for the Switch 2’s GameChat feature, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Nintendo made improvements to the controller’s rumble, gyro motion controls, and analog sticks. Unfortunately, the sticks do not utilize Hall Effect sensor technology, but Nintendo says they were designed to offer a smoother and quieter experience. The controller will also have NFC support for Amiibo figures.

The standout upgrades to the Pro Controller are also found on a pair of upcoming third-party controllers. Officially licensed Nintendo Switch 2 wired controllers by Hori and PowerA have remappable back buttons and the C button. Since both controllers are wired, they are substantially cheaper than the official option from Nintendo. The Horipad Turbo is $50, while PowerA’s Switch 2 Advantage Controllers start at $40, have Hall Effect sticks, and come in four different color schemes, including two Super Mario-themed designs.

While the new Switch 2 Pro Controller and the officially licensed themed controllers look cool, it’s reminding current Switch owners that many of the controllers you already own should work with Switch 2. The console is backward compatible with both games and accessories. All first-party and officially licensed Switch controllers are expected to work just fine on the new console. And if you own a Bluetooth controller you’re partial to, it should work without any issues. Controllers that connect via 2.4GHz dongles could be hit or miss, depending on the manufacturer, but it’s unlikely that you’ll run into any problems with major accessory brands like 8BitDo.

As such, you may want to consider a cheaper alternative to the Switch 2 Pro Controller. At the moment, the best controller for Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED, regardless of price, is the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller. Released earlier this year, the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is a major iteration of 8BitDo’s flagship controller series.

The Ultimate 2 has four remappable buttons–two back, two shoulder–adjustable trigger locks with two stopping points, TMR electromagnetic sensors (better than Hall Effect), RGB lighting rings, and robust customization features via 8BitDo’s software suite on PC and Android. You can set up three custom profiles, modify stick and trigger sensitivity, create deadzones, alter rumble intensity, and set up different lighting effects/colors.

The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth comes with a matching charging dock that holds an optional USB-C dongle for 2.4GHz Wireless. It’s unclear if the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth will work with Switch 2 via 2.4GHz Wireless, but Bluetooth and wired connections should be seamless.

If you’re interested in using the new GameChat feature with video chat, check out our breakdown of the official Switch 2 cameras releasing in June. There are three options to choose from: Nintendo’s first-party camera, Hori’s Piranha Plant Camera, and the travel-friendly Hori USB Camera.

Nintendo Switch 2 preorders have been sold out for nearly a month now, and it doesn’t seem like the console will be restocked until launch.

If you managed to secure a preorder and are interested in pairing your console with more accessories and games, check out our roundups of first-party Switch 2 gear and all the Switch 2 physical games you can preorder now.

Dow Jones, Nasdaq, S&P 500 down, retailers are split on tariff impact

by admin May 20, 2025

Tariffs continue to be in focus during today’s trading session, as Walmart and Home Depot shared differing views on their impact.

U.S. markets are still assessing the effect of tariffs on consumers. On Tuesday, May 20, the Dow Jones was trading at 42,679.23, down 112.84 points or 0.26%. The S&P 500 was at 5,942.07, down 0.36%, while the Nasdaq stood at 21,353, down 0.44%.

Just days after Walmart announced potential price hikes due to U.S. tariffs, Home Depot offered a different perspective. In its first-quarter 2025 earnings report, the home improvement giant stated that it plans to keep prices steady. Rather than raising prices, the company has opted to shift production away from China, which currently faces an effective tariff rate of 30%.

Still, Home Depot’s announcement may not be enough to lift sentiment. Wall Street analysts continue to warn about the broader economic impact of the recently resumed collection of student loans.

Student debt, consumer sentiment rattles Wall Street

The Department of Education under Donald Trump has resumed collections on student loans that had been paused for five years. This applies to borrowers in default, who may now face wage garnishment.

Notably, JPMorgan estimated that renewed collections could reduce disposable personal income somewhere between $3.1 billion and $8.5 billion. Bank of America’s analyst Mihir Bhatia noted that low-end consumers will particularly feel the weight of this new policy.

Against this backdrop, May’s preliminary consumer sentiment index has dropped to the second-lowest level on record. The index, which measures consumers’ willingness to spend, fell to 50.8 — the lowest reading aside from June 2022.

Still, despite bad news for Wall Street and Main Street, Bitcoin (BTC) is resilient, trading at $106,323 and up 0.98% in the last 24 hours. Gold showed even stronger performance, up 1.78% to $3,287 per ounce.
