‘Dana White’s Contender Series’ Season 9 matchups and results

by admin August 20, 2025

The UFC’s best pipeline for talent is back, as “Dana White’s Contender Series” returned for Season 9 on Aug. 12. American welterweight Ty Miller earned the first contract on the season after his unanimous decision win over Jimmy Drago. White then showed his appreciation for Khamzat Chimaev’s Russian teammate Baysangur Susurkaev, who White said stole the show when he knocked out Murtaza Talha with a vicious kick to the liver in the first round.

Susurkaev immediately put his UFC contract to work, booking a spot on the UFC 319: Chimaev vs. Dricus Du Plessis undercard in Chicago just four days later. Susurkaev rode the hype wave all the way to his first win, a second-round rear naked choke submission of fellow debutante Eric Nolan.

In Week 2, four of five fights ended early with four knockouts. The other, a unanimous decision victory by Jose Delano over Manuel Exposito in the main event, was an exciting three-round affair in which both fighters battled to the final bell. All five winners left the UFC Apex with UFC contracts.

Google is experimenting with AI-generated podcast-like audio summaries at the top of its search results

by admin June 15, 2025

Google just launched its most impressive (and unsettling) addition to AI Overview yet, a new feature called “Audio Overview” that generates audio summaries of search results, narrated in the style of two life-like, yet not quite human podcast hosts.

Audio Overview is currently an opt-in Search Labs feature, meaning you won’t see the option for it unless you toggle a switch in Search Labs. Right now it’s only available in the U.S. and only generates English summaries.

I tried out Audio Overview myself and the results weren’t exactly what I was expecting.

Related articles

After you activate the feature in Search Labs, some Google searches will include an Audio Overview box, usually below the regular AI Overview and “People also ask” sections. You just tap the button to generate the audio summary and wait for it to finish processing.

The audio clip you’ll get is generated on the spot, so if you refresh the page and generate it again, it could end up being different. The summaries I generated ranged from 3 to 5 minutes long. All of them feature the same pair of AI-generated voices who go back and forth discussing whatever topic you searched, in the style of a podcast.

The voices are admittedly significantly more lifelike than the robotic Siri sound I was expecting. There’s tone changes, conversational word choices, seemingly natural language. It’s not quite realistic, though. The two voices are like a pair of podcasters with zero rapport who seem like they’re reading off a teleprompter. It’s just shy of being lifelike but still lifelike enough that some people could be fooled at first.

Google shows you which search results it used to generate the audio summary, so you can double-check whatever info your AI podcasters give you. However, they sound realistic enough that some people might just assume these are real people and take whatever they say as fact. Of course, that’s also an issue with text AI summaries.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

There are some hiccups that give away that these aren’t real people. For instance, in one of the summaries I got, one of the AI voices asks a question then immediately answers it herself, which sounded pretty awkward.

Both voices use emotional language from time to time, like exclaiming “Wow!” at a fun fact, but it definitely sounds stiff and just shy of something a real person would say. The AI voices also mispronounce words once in a while, like “musk” instead of “must.”

Uncanny and eerie as this feature is, I can see it being helpful to some people, especially those who may have vision impairments, or otherwise rely on screen reading tools. The AI-generated voices sound pretty good for the fact that they’re AI, too.

That would be cool if it didn’t come with a host of concerns around the spread of misinformation through AI and the threat AI-generated voices like this could pose to jobs like voice acting. Like any innovation in AI, Google’s Audio Overviews are a double-edged sword and unfortunately I’m still more skeptical than impressed.

Too Busy to Read? Google’s Audio Overviews Summarize Your Search Results Aloud

by admin June 14, 2025

The next time you wonder why school buses are yellow, you might not have to read a single word to get the answer. Google’s latest experimental feature can literally tell you the answer, in a tiny audio clip that loads right to your results page.

Launched Friday in Search Labs, Audio Overviews uses Google’s latest Gemini AI models to turn certain queries into 30- to 45-second, podcast-style explainers, complete with on-screen source links for fact-checking.

The move pushes Google’s AI Overviews beyond text, positioning Search for a semi-hands-free, voice-first future, while also raising more questions about what this means for publishers who rely on clicks.

How you can try out Audio Overviews right now

If you’re interested, you can try out Google’s Audio Overviews right now. Go to the Google Labs website, opt in to the Search Labs program if you’re not already signed up and toggle on Audio Overviews.

You can hit Try an example to test out the feature.

Nelson Aguilar/CNET

The next time you run a query, like “How do I stop apps from tracking my exact location on my iPhone,” Google might show you a button that says Generate Audio Overview, which you’ll have to scroll down a little to see.

You can then tap on the Audio Overview to process the clip, and then press play. You can speed up the audio, mute the clip and also rate it with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to better train it.

Audio Overviews are only available in the US for now.

Nelson Aguilar/CNET

Below the player, Google lists the web pages it drew from, so you can click through to fact-check the information or just dig deeper.

For those with visual impairments, this new feature offers a glimpse at what a voice-first Google might look like. But until Google expands language support and proves the summaries are dependable, consider this a nifty experiment for now, not a substitute for reading the full story.

TikTok now blocks search results for #SkinnyTok

by admin June 4, 2025

TikTok no longer shows search results for the hashtag #SkinnyTok. Critics who supported this block said some videos with that label were promoting disordered eating and other unhealthy or risky diet behaviors. We’ve reached out to TikTok for comment on this development.

France’s Minister of State for Digital Affairs Clara Chappaz was one of the politicians leading the pushback against this particular hashtag. She has been campaigning against #SkinnyTok with both French and EU regulators since April. “These videos promoting extreme thinness are revolting and absolutely unacceptable,” Chappaz said. “Digital tools are marvellous in terms of progress and freedom, but badly used they can shatter lives … the social networks cannot escape their responsibility.”

While blocking search results for potentially harmful hashtags is a positive step, it only places hurdles in the path of people who want to seek out similar videos. “Users are savvy,” Cornell University professor Brooke Erin Duffy told The New York Times. “They know how to work these platforms and how to evade their content moderation systems.”

A block on one hashtag is just the latest in TikTok’s piecemeal approach toward content that could encourage eating disorders. In 2020 it placed restrictions on ads that might “promote a negative or harmful body image,” such as fasting apps and weight loss supplements. TikTok began a partnership with the National Eating Disorder Association in 2021 to offer more resources for users with eating disorders. Later that year, it also introduced a new approach to the For You page in an effort to reduce the impact of watching too many repeated clips on a negative topic.

Meta’s ‘Free Expression’ Push Results in Far Fewer Content Takedowns

by admin May 30, 2025

Meta announced in January it would end some content moderation efforts, loosen its rules, and put more emphasis on supporting “free expression.” The shifts resulted in fewer posts being removed from Facebook and Instagram, the company disclosed Thursday in its quarterly Community Standards Enforcement Report. Meta said that its new policies had helped reduce erroneous content removals in the US by half without broadly exposing users to more offensive content than before the changes.

The new report, which was referenced in an update to a January blog post by Meta global affairs chief Joel Kaplan, shows that Meta removed nearly one-third less content on Facebook and Instagram globally for violating its rules from January to March of this year than it did in the previous quarter, or about 1.6 billion items compared to just under 2.4 billion, according to an analysis by WIRED. In the past several quarters, the tech giant’s total quarterly removals had previously risen or stayed flat.

Across Instagram and Facebook, Meta reported removing about 50 percent fewer posts for violating its spam rules, nearly 36 percent less for child endangerment, and almost 29 percent less for hateful conduct. Removals increased in only one major rules category—suicide and self-harm content—out of the 11 that Meta lists.

The amount of content Meta removes fluctuates regularly from quarter to quarter, and a number of factors could have contributed to the dip in takedowns. But the company itself acknowledged that “changes made to reduce enforcement mistakes” was one reason for the large drop.

“Across a range of policy areas we saw a decrease in the amount of content actioned and a decrease in the percent of content we took action on before a user reported it,” the company wrote. “This was in part because of the changes we made to ensure we are making fewer mistakes. We also saw a corresponding decrease in the amount of content appealed and eventually restored.”

Meta relaxed some of its content rules at the start of the year that CEO Mark Zuckerberg described as “just out of touch with mainstream discourse.” The changes allowed Instagram and Facebook users to employ some language that human rights activists view as hateful toward immigrants or individuals that identify as transgender. For example, Meta now permits “allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation.”

As part of the sweeping changes, which were announced just as Donald Trump was set to begin his second term as US president, Meta also stopped relying as much on automated tools to identify and remove posts suspected of less severe violations of its rules because it said they had high error rates, prompting frustration from users.

During the first quarter of this year, Meta’s automated systems accounted for 97.4 percent of content removed from Instagram under the company’s hate speech policies, down by just 1 percentage point from the end of last year. (User reports to Meta triggered the remaining percentage.) But automated removals for bullying and harassment on Facebook dropped nearly 12 percentage points. In some categories, such as nudity, Meta’s systems were slightly more proactive compared to the previous quarter.

CD Projekt posts flat sales results for Q1 2025

by admin May 29, 2025

CD Projekt Red has published its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025, reporting a small decrease in sales and net profits during its first quarter.

Sales were relatively flat compared to the same period last year, decreasing 0.17% from PLN 226.7 million ($60.3 million) the previous year to PLN 226.3 million ($60.2 million).

As for net profit, the developer reported a drop of 14% to PLN 86 million ($22.8 million) compared to PLN 100 million ($26.6 million) during the same period last year.

CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said CD Projekt’s Q1 earnings were “supported by strong sales” of Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty. The latter has now surpassed 10 million copies following its launch in September 2023.

CD Projekt also revealed that Cyberpunk 2 – previously codenamed Orion – has entered the pre-production phase, with the developer focusing recruitment for 2025 on this project.

The team has expanded to over 730 developers as of April 2025, with 420 developers focusing on the production phase of The Witcher 4.

Speaking of The Witcher franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 60 million copies globally since its 2015 launch and earned PLN 2.4 billion ($638 million) in revenue.

“This remarkable figure firmly establishes The Witcher 3 as one of the best-selling games of all time, a testament to its enduring quality, immersive world, and unwavering support of our global player base,” said CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski.

“Our goal now is to introduce them, along with those who are not yet familiar with our franchise, to a new saga that will begin with the upcoming fourth instalment of The Witcher.”

Commenting on the PLN 2.4 billion figure, Nowakowski said: “This financial performance underscores the enduring value of the franchise and its continued contribution to CD Projekt Red’s strong financial foundation – enabling us to dive into new projects and pursue our creative vision independently as we shape the future of both The Witcher and the Cyberpunk universes, as well as our third IP codenamed Hadar.”

Nvidia Reports Strong Results, but Outlook is Tempered

by admin May 29, 2025

Shares of Nvidia (NVDA) rose roughly 4% in post-trading hours after reporting better-than-expected earnings and revenue on Wednesday.

The AI powerhouse posted a 69% increase in revenue in the first quarter, compared to a year ago, with its data center business growing 73% year-over-year. Net income came in at $18.8 billion, up 26% from a year earlier.

The after-hours move pushed NVDA shares to a modest year-to-date gain and about a 20% year-over-year advance.

AI crypto tokens, including Bittensor , NEAR Protocol

and Internet Computer (CIP), moved slightly higher after Nvidia’s earnings beat, although remained sizably lower for the day. Nevertheless, it was ongoing AI demand which was a key driver in the 73% growth in the company data center business.

Turning to the outlook amid recent global trade uncertainties, Nvidia said it expects second-quarter revenue to come in below market estimates as a result of tariff-related restrictions between the U.S. and China.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 lives, as a massive community return campaign results in a new Steam player record

by admin May 27, 2025

Star Wars Battlefront II has been granted a new lease of life. With a community-led effort to storm back into a war-torn galaxy, far, far away, players have flocked back to EA’s sci-fi shooter in great numbers, breaking concurrent player records on Steam.

Prior to this event, the game was seeing an average peak player count of around 1,000 users each today according to SteamDB. However, starting May 4 (Star Wars day), this number started to climb drastically. It first hit a peak of 5,583 players, then continued to climb throughout the month, eventually peaking yesterday at 18,635 concurrent Star Wars fans.

Battlefront II launched back in 2017 to mixed reception, thanks in part to a horrid microtransaction model. However in the years since, the game has shaped up quite nicely! Foregoing the aspects many found distasteful at first, it proved ripe for a rigorous return to a collective of gamers hungry for some widescale PvP action.

All in all, it’s a pretty lovely moment in the history of the series. People are flocking to social media to show off the game in all its wackiness, as well as its capacity to create cinematic moments. Take this post, from user Alej on Twitter, which shows a small snippet of the game in action. Fast-paced gameplay with ships flying all over the gaff, kicking up dust and laying down aerial barrages. It is still a great game, and dare I say, offers a salve to other games out there without the years of content and solid backbone.

Are you playing Battlefront II right now? Let us know below!
