Shiba Inu Developers Respond To $4 Million Exploit With Detailed Update

Following a significant exploit that compromised its Shibarium bridge, developers behind Shiba Inu (SHIB) have released a detailed update outlining their response to the incident. 

Shibarium Team Implements New Security Measures

According to a post-mortem report, the malicious attack involved a perpetrator submitting three fraudulent checkpoints to Shibarium’s Ethereum mainnet contracts, disrupting the continuity between Heimdall’s local state and the on-chain state. 

After the attack was detected, Shibarium’s Kaal Dhairya announced on social media platform X (previously twitter) that authorities had been alerted, while also expressing a willingness to negotiate with the attacker in exchange for the return of the stolen funds. 

However, no agreement was reached, and the attacker has since moved the stolen assets, leaving the Shibarium team to focus on recovery and security enhancements for the platform.

In light of this, Heimdall intentionally halted operations, pausing legitimate checkpoint submissions to prevent further damage. They also described the attacker’s method, which included a short-lived stake amplification strategy through a 4.6 million BONE delegation. 

This tactic allowed the attacker to cross operational thresholds and attempt to gain unauthorized control over the system. To address these issues, the Shibarium team organized their response into multiple overlapping workstreams, functioning around the clock in collaboration with Hexens.io, an independent reviewer. 

Their approach included daily stand-ups, continuous monitoring of changes, and strict separation of duties among team members responsible for infrastructure, contracts, validator operations, and testnets. 

This aimed to eliminate any single points of failure, employing hardware custody for keys and ensuring every critical change was rehearsed off-chain or on testnets prior to implementation.

Shiba Inu Dev’s Strategy To Compensate Affected Users 

As part of their actions, Shiba Inu devs introduced a rescue method in the StakeManager to recover at-risk BONE tokens. They executed the AdminConsumeLegacyBound function to clean up legacy unbond states associated with the attacker’s contract. 

This response verified that the staking ledger updates were successful, ultimately rescuing the 4.6 million BONE and removing the malicious delegation. Looking ahead, Shiba Inu developers detailed their plans for the near future, which include implementing blacklisting measures in the Plasma Bridge. 

These controls aim to prevent malicious actors from initiating or completing bridge transactions. Once these measures are in place and thoroughly verified, the team intends to restore full bridge functionality.

In addition to these technical updates, Shiba Inu developers are designing a comprehensive plan to ensure that affected users are made whole. 

This plan will incorporate gating, phased limits, and coordination with partners to facilitate safe bridging and withdrawals. Specific details will be communicated only when it is deemed secure to do so.

EA FC 26 devs respond as “we could not activate” error leaves players furious

EA FC 26 is officially live, with many players jumping in early using the New Zealand trick or through EA Play. However, fans using the latter method are running into an error that’s halting their progress.

Subscribers to EA Play or EA Pro were granted early access to the game, allowing them to start the Ultimate Team grind ahead of time. If you have a membership, regardless of platform, you could get in from midnight in New Zealand, which equates to 5 AM PT or 1 PM BST.

But for thousands of PC players who hoped to get a headstart, the fun was cut short by an error, reading: “We could not activate EA SPORTS FC 26 EA Play Pro Edition on this computer using the EA account you provided.”

At the time of writing, there is no workaround, leaving PC players completely unable to launch the new game. The devs have responded to the issue, suggesting that a fix shouldn’t be too far away.

This isn’t enough for some players, though, who pointed out that early access was one of the main benefits of being an EA Play subscriber. Given that every minute the game is unavailable draws them closer to the midnight release of the Ultimate Edition for non-members, some are even demanding compensation.

“You should refund people who bought it…” said one reply.

“The least you could do is fix it immediately and offer compensation,” added another.

The good news is that EA SPORTS are aware of the issue and is working on a solution, so if you’re running into this error, you should have access very soon.

“I’m picking it up a lot faster” Hollow Knight newcomers and veterans respond to the first few hours of Silksong

Silksong is real. It’s finally here. I’ve played about seven hours of it already. Whether it’s exploring the first few screens of the world and happening upon Bone Bottom or plucking away at the first real test of a fight against Lace, the game uses the same formula as Hollow Knight and wields it to equally incredible effect.

I’m something of a Hollow Knight megafan: I own the original game on Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and have beaten it at least once on all platforms (though I’ve never quite managed to overcome the Path of Pain – I’m too old and slow for that now, I think).

My initial read of Silksong is a simple one: it’s harder, faster, and more complex than its forebear, but that’s no bad thing. As I wrote yesterday, Team Cherry is artisinal in its use of game design to empower the player, and Silksong proves that on a sophomore attempt, the developer is no less keen eyed and sadistic in its approach. I’ve not played enough to put a score on the game yet, but my initial thought is: this is an all-timer. We’ll see if that holds water once I hit the end-game.

But you don’t just care about what I have to say, do you? Let’s go to the wider Eurogamer team – made up of all different levels of familiarity with the series – to see what everyone else has to say about Silksong now that the servers are back online and we can all actually play it.

Hollow Knight familiarity level: Played a bit of the first one, never managed to get too deep into it.

Impressions:

I am, quite welcomely, blown away so far with Silksong. I’ve just reached the end of The Marrows, partly because I keep finding myself getting distracted by the detailed designs in each area and also because I keep revisiting Sherma to hear their song on repeat. The music in Silksong alone is enough to keep me coming back for more.

I thought the diagonal attack would take a while to get used to and make this a lot harder than Hollow Knight, but I’ve found this attack far easier to use than the Knight’s downwards one. I found many of Hollow Knight’s early enemies quite tricky, spending more time getting used to the controls than anything, but with Silksong the attack process feels more organic – I’m picking it up a lot faster. It’s personal preference I’m sure, but it’s making a big difference on how comfortable I am with Silksong’. Also, I’m finding the Hornet easier to maneuver to get from A to B.

Will I feel as confident as the game progressively gets harder? Only time will tell – but for now, I’m happy!

Hollow Knight familiarity level: Beat the game for the first time last week (not true ending).

Impressions:

Playing through Silksong I’m happy to learn that the cast of lovable quirky side characters is just as strong here as it was in the original game. The moment I ran into Shakra – your new map seller – I was immediately ride-or-die for her. A total flip on Cornifer, the jolly equivalent from Hollow Knight, Shakra is a tough, loyal warrior carving her own way through the world. I’ve been humming along to her song since yesterday.

The same goes for Sherma – a cute bug with another brilliant song and boundless faith. Hit that spoon, little guy. Finding these characters and learning their stories was a big appeal for me in the original game and I’m happy to find myself well-served in Silksong

Hollow Knight familiarity level: Flirted with Hollow Knight.

Impressions:

I have only just started Silksong, so I cannot yet say whether I love, like or loathe it. What I will say, though, is that I love how it sounds. Each ‘thwip thwip’ of Hornet’s needle is divine. And the way her feet pitter patter against the bones and moss beneath her – ah, it is just lovely!

I am obviously some way off even thinking about finishing Silksong but, it is already one absolutely beautiful-sounding game if I ever did hear one!

Hollow Knight familiarity level: Completed the first game.

Impressions:

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I find the map bug’s singing quite irritating. Hollow Knight is all about discovery and, in the original game, hearing the cute little bug’s humming and finding pages strewn across the ground were always a joy, knowing a full map was finally in your grasp. It works similarly in Silksong, but the new bug just doesn’t have the same charm to me. Sorry!

Outside of this I’m loving it: the difficulty is pitched well, I’m enjoying the swift movement, and the layers of paralax scrolling look divine on the Switch 2’s screen. So far, it’s the same but different, and that’s enough for me.

Hollow Knight familiarity: A complete newcomer.

Special – that’s what I wanted to see. I’d heard so much about Hollow Knight and sequel Silksong that I wanted to see, the moment I loaded the game, why that was. I wanted to feel like I was unwrapping something exquisite and precious – something worthy of the hype and acclaim the series has had. It made loading Silksong one of the most anticipated gaming moments I think I’ve had.

Did Silksong live up to it? To my delight, yes, and in such style. And I know I’m speaking quite superficially here, but the impact of that almost paper-drawn art style and the incredibly precise way the game plays, feels so deliberate and confident it puts me in mind of Nintendo. I felt immediately in safe hands. Expert hands. Master craftsperson hands. Silksong feels like Nintendo, albeit a darker and more mysterious one, and I don’t think there’s a higher compliment I can give.

I played the original Hollow Knight in erratic snatches; on summer holiday car rides between scenic stop-offs when it first came out. And as is the way with holiday things when you finally get home, the whole thing rapidly took on the haze of a barely remembered dream.


So it felt kind of appropriate my first encounter with Silksong last night was with sleepy eyes and a drowsy brain, when I really should have been in bed. I watched the intro animation (fancy!), found a secret room by pressing the wrong button and hurling myself through a rock, fell off the same platform far too many times, and quickly decided tonight was probably not the night for all this. I did, though, have the sudden sleepy realisation Hornet kind of looks like a tooth in a dress and that’s apparently now something I can’t un-see.

Nexon respond to claims they’re using AI-generated Tiktok streamers to advertise The First Descendant

South Korean publishers Nexon are investigating a recent bit of TikTok marketing for their free-to-play shooter The First Descendant, after players spotted some ads that feature AI-generated ‘human’ streamers bigging up the game. Well, we at least have to assume it’s following that, as Nexon’s statement omits mentioning AI in favour of the wonderfully nebulous phrase “certain irregularities”.

If you’ve not seen one of these ads that look to have been posted by The First Descendant’s official account, allow me to show you, because you’ll see right quick why folks have been asking questions. Boom. There are further booms compiled into one Reddit post by user iHardlyTriHard down below.

As you can see, them be some weird renderings of streamy blokes, especially the one who says Nier: Automata in a fashion that’d be hilarious if this wasn’t terrible AI sloppage. Seriously, he pronounces it NEER (pause for ten seconds) audomada. He also gets points for doubling up on his use of free-to-play in his attempt to get you hyped about an F2P update to the F2P looter shooter, which has launched F2Ply.

Anyway, in addition to the more obviously not-streamers, it appears the first one in the compilation below may be based on the likeness of streamer DanieltheDemon. He’s since taken to the comments section of a TikTok about the clips to make clear he didn’t agree to any of this. “I have no affiliation nor contract with The First Descendant,” the streamer wrote. “They stole my face/reactions from my most viral video and used AI to change what my mouth says and a voice that isn’t mine. I did not consent for my likeness to be used…”

While you can’t find these full ads if you go to The First Descendant’s official TikTok account, you can see some of the gameplay clips the AI streamers have been paired with to deliver their samey sales pitches.

What do Nexon have to say about this? The following:

We would like to inform you of certain irregularities identified in the operation of our TikTok Creative Challenge for creators. As a part of our marketing campaign for Season 3: Breakthrough, we recently ran a Creative Challenge program for TikTok creators, which allows creators to voluntarily submit their content to be used as advertising materials. All submitted videos are verified through TikTok’s system to check copyright violations before they are approved as advertising content.

However, we have become aware of cases where the circumstances surrounding the production of certain submitted videos appear inappropriate. Thus, we are conducting a thorough joint investigation with TikTok to determine the facts. We sincerely apologize for the delay in providing this notice as the review is taking longer than expected. Once the verification is complete, we will promptly share an update through an official notice.

So, the company ran a competition of sorts that let anyone create ads for the game, which is a strange example of outsourcing at the very least, then seemingly left final approval for publication to TikTok’s copyright checker, which merrily waved this dodgy stuff through. Either that or Nexon potentially gave it all the green light themselves. Either way, oof.

We’ll have to see what the company say once that investigation’s concluded, but here’s hoping the next statement’s a bit more like the easier-to-parse response offered when Nexon were accused of taking a bit too much inspiration from some Destiny 2 icons.
