Animal rights group PETA calls for Nintendo to remove Cow’s “cruel” nose ring

by admin August 17, 2025

Animal rights campaign group PETA is calling on Nintendo to remove Mario Kart World’s Cow’s nose ring.

In a statement, PETA said no real-world cow would sport Cow’s “goofy grin” if they were forced to wear a ring, “a tool of cruelty that causes lasting pain and discomfort”, and wrote to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa earlier this week to explain that “nose rings are forcibly pierced through one of the most sensitive parts of a cow’s body”, often used to drag or control cows ans bulls “to their deaths”.

“We know Mario Kart World is just a game – and that’s exactly why Cow’s nose ring needs to go,” the organisation said. “Mario Kart is supposed to be a fun escape, not a reminder of the painful tools used on cows in the meat and dairy industries. No one wants to think about animal suffering while zipping around a race track.”

The dairy industry also reportedly clips “spiked nose rings on baby cows so that the comforting act of nursing from their mother causes her pain and the baby is rejected and kicked away. To control bulls, a chain might be fastened from the nose ring to the bull’s horn for even more pain-driven control”.

“It’s not a style choice,” the organisation added, “It’s a cruel tool used to control and hurt cows in the meat and dairy industries, which causes lasting pain and discomfort.”

PETA has previously taken action against other games, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which it said encouraged “abusive behaviour toward fish and insects […] tearing wildlife out of their homes and display them in cramped cases in a museum”. It’s also launched campaigns against Palworld and Hunting Simulator 2.

Nintendo sold 5.82m Switch 2 consoles worldwide in its first month of release and 5.63m copies of Mario Kart World, meaning the launch title had an attachment rate of around 97 percent.

Petition to remove Roblox CEO reaches 100k signatures amid child safety concerns

by admin August 17, 2025

A petition calling for the resignation of Roblox CEO David Baszucki has gained over 100,000 signatures amid growing concerns over child safety on the platform.

The petition, started on August 9, 2025, accused Roblox of failing to protect children, alleging that the company has repeatedly overlooked issues of exploitation and harmful content.

It further claimed that, under Baszucki’s leadership, the safety of minors had been compromised while accountability and transparency remained lacking.

The petition further alleged that Roblox had been slow to remove predators, allowing some to remain active on the platform even after they were reported. It also claimed the company permitted harmful content to circulate while over-relying on automated moderation that punishes innocent players.

Additional complaints included allegations that community members had faced retaliation and that leadership had ignored mounting criticism and calls for reform.

Concern over the safety of children in Roblox has grown since the banning of YouTuber and predator catcher Schlep’s ban from the platform.

Roblox leadership faces increasing pressure

While the petition provides no specific names, Schlep, a YouTuber known for confronting alleged predators on Roblox, was banned from the platform and sent a cease and desist notice by the company, threatening legal action if they didn’t halt “unauthorized and harmful activities on the Roblox platform.”

Roblox has since defended the decision to ban Schlep, describing their actions as vigilantism. In an August 16 video providing an update on the company’s safety initiatives, Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman stated that such vigilante activity put the community at “greater risk.”

On August 15, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen confirmed in an X/Twitter post that he was investigating “exploitation of children on the popular gaming platform, Roblox,” and had been in contact with law enforcement as well as Schlep.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 goes offline for a day after its latest update caused so many problems Crytek had to remove it completely

by admin June 18, 2025

It’s been a rough day for Crytek, which after struggling for a day to get the new Hunt: Showdown 1896 2.4 update working properly has given up, rolled the whole thing back, and says it will try again later.

Trouble with the update became apparent almost as soon as the Judgment of the Fool update went live, as a raft of complaints about server problems and the inability to purchase Blood Bonds came flooding in. A couple hours after the update went up, Crytek said it was aware of the problem and took all game servers offline so it could fix the issue, with a promise to “update you as soon as the servers are back online.”

More than eight hours later, the servers finally came back—to Steam, anyway—but the 2.4 update did not.

“After exhausting all possible solutions, we have decided to revert the game back to Update 2.3 to restore stability and will be monitoring stability,” Crytek wrote on X. “At this time, the return to Update 2.3 is now available for Steam players. Console players can expect an update soon as we work on restoring availability to PlayStation and Xbox.”

A return date for the 2.4 update was not provided, but Crytek said it will bring it back “as soon as possible.” It also promised that players who encountered problems with purchases during the 2.4 update’s brief life will receive the items they bought as well as other unspecified compensation, and that “as a token of our appreciation for your patience,” all players will have until June 27 to redeem a code (XIE25T57R247N190) granting them 10,000 Hunt dollars.

This has not mollified much of the Hunt: Showdown community. Some fans (particularly those with less-than-great internet) are annoyed at having to download 26GB of data for the 2.4 update, only to have to download another 26GB of data to get rid of it, while others are irritated by the fact that they’ve been unable to play the game for an entire day.

The lack of regular updates from Crytek during the downtime is also a big sore point, and the offer of 10,000 Hunt dollars has also not made much of an impression: It’s a decent amount but not the premium currency, so it can’t be used for things like Legendary skins or battle passes.

Naturally, there’s also been a spate of negative user reviews on Steam, where the “recent reviews” rating now sits at “mixed.” 146 negative reviews have been posted so far today, many of them by players with literally hundreds or even thousands of hours in the game.

For now, that’s where things stand: Hunt: Showdown is playable on Steam, apparently not yet playable on consoles, and the 2.4 update is coming but it’s not clear when. We’ll keep our eyes open and let you know when it does.
