Elon Musk Randomly Drops in on Small Town; Reminds Everyone He Is Still Canadian

by admin August 20, 2025

British Columbia and a tiny fishing village is now atwitter after the world’s wealthiest man made an unannounced appearance over the weekend.

Elon Musk, the controversial and now apparently political CEO of Tesla and X, touched down in Bella Bella—an isolated town nestled in the Great Bear Rainforest—before departing again by helicopter.

His visit to the town with approximately 1,500 residents was a surprise.

Local resident Seán Carter told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that the area is no stranger to high-profile visitors.

He added that Musk was possibly passing through en route to James Murdoch, son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who is a board member at Tesla, where Musk serves as CEO, and who owns a property off the coast.

“It’s not every day the richest man in the world comes through town,” he said. “That’s going to be a tough one to top.”

CBC News confirmed that Musk’s private jet touched down in Vancouver late Friday night and departed Monday afternoon. Visual evidence viewed by the CBC reportedly aligns with flight data tracked online and show Musk arriving and departing.

Wait, Elon Musk is Canadian?

If you follow the lore of Musk, he was born in South Africa and is a Canadian citizen through his mother, Maye Musk, who was born in Regina, according to official biographies. Musk moved to Saskatchewan and then Vancouver as a teen, and attended college in Canada.

In recent months, Musk’s visits and Canadian ties have fueled debate. Earlier this year, a petition circulated calling for the government to revoke his citizenship over his role in President Trump’s White House, exactly as Musk was getting heavy handed in tariff talks between the two countries.

In Ontario and Western Canada, Musk’s tempestuous influence has also complicated political relationships.

Quebec, B.C., and other provinces have debated decisions to exclude Tesla from EV rebate programs in response to U.S. tariffs, with B.C. Premier David Eby citing “retaliation” as the reason. In a move that showed at least one of Musk’s businesses still matters to Canadian communities, more than half of Canadian rural areas are buying services from Musk’s Starlink satellite internet to improve connectivity.

Musk has gone back and forth on his own complicated feelings about Canada.

In 2023, he posted a photo wearing a “I Love Canada” T-shirt and declared himself “half-Canadian.” But in February 2025, in response to the citizenship revocation petition, he tweeted, “Canada is not a real country” before deleting the message.

Carter told the CBC that, politics aside, Musk’s passage through Bella Bella was one for the history books. “No matter what your opinion of him is, it’s something to follow,” he said.

Locals have mixed feelings about Musk

The town’s residents clearly had mixed feelings about Musk’s drop-in.

Emily Lowan, a candidate for the B.C. Green Party leadership, posted images of Musk’s arrival on social media, writing, “yet another reason to tax billionaires out of existence.”

But in typical Canadian fashion, Carter said that Musk did not get any special treatment at the local airport and then had to walk for a bit.

“It was quite busy,” Carter said. “The plane landed on one side, the helicopter on the other, and he had to walk a long way. He probably hoped to come in and out quietly, but there are no secrets in this town.”

Sinister Sodies is a snappy claymation match-3 game that reminds me of when Flash games were still a thing

by admin June 20, 2025

Match-3 games are probably the purest out there, at least in terms of genre. They are so instantly understandable by pretty much anyone, no wonder there’s a seemingly infinite number of them available on our phones. The issue is that most of them can’t match up to the heights of a classic like Bejeweled, though at least every once in a while we get delightful spins on the genre like Spirit Swap. Now, there’s a new, quite tiny new kid on the block in the form of Sinister Sodies, a match-3 game where you set out to “purify your carbonated concoction before time runs out.”

Sinister Sodies has the usual thing you’ll find in a match-3 game, i.e. different coloured tiles you have to match up. The particular spin here is that rather than like in other games in the genre where you might move a tile to get a match, you have to box specific combinations of three tiles in by drawing a four-cornered box.

Announcing my latest game, Sinister Sodies! A bite-sized, fast-paced arcade puzzle game where you box in colorful Frooblies to purify your carbonated concoction, all to win the love of your evil overlord! Grab it on Steam today!

It sounds simple enough, but there’s a fast-paced time limit, so in the first instance you have to find a spot that includes your three target tiles before you can even match them up. This gets complicated by things like tiles that explode if you draw a line through them, more and more of said tiles appearing as you make matches.

I really like this little twist on the genre, there’s a snappiness to it thanks to the timer that really helps it to feel satisfying when you just manage to make a match. Not enough to make you want to play it for hours on end, but I can see myself coming back to this for five minutes pop when I need a break from writing about the latest Fortnite update or whatever it is games journalists do these days.

I think the thing I’m most fond of is the presentation. It all looks like a piece of claymation, rendered in artist Crisppyboat’s own signature style. I feel like it’s a game that would have fit very well on Cartoon Network’s Flash games site back when that was still a thing. Real “killing time on the family computer while your mum is getting ready for the school run” kind of vibe in the most positive of ways possible.

Anyway, it’s already out on Steam and itch.io, and it’s cheap as chips, so you’ve not got much of an excuse to not get it honestly.

Ubisoft Reminds Us It’s Still Making Prince Of Persia Remake

by admin June 17, 2025

Remember that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake Ubisoft announced back in 2020? The one that was supposed to launch four years ago? Well, it’s still in development according to a new update from the publisher after the game was a no-show during Summer Game Fest.

The Week In Games: Pokémon With Guns And More New Releases

Back in September 2020, Ubisoft announced a remake of 2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It was set to launch in 2021 and was being developed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. But then in December 2020, the game was delayed until March 2021. In February 2021, it was delayed again with no new release date given. Over a year later, in May 2022, Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Montréal—the studio behind the original Sands of Time—was taking over the project. And it was then revealed that development on the remake was essentially starting over. At Summer Game Fest 2024, Ubisoft re-announced the Sands of Time remake with a tiny teaser and a new 2026 release date. That brings us to today, when Ubisoft really wants you all to know that things are going great. Promise!

On June 16, over a week after Summer Game Fest 2025 wrapped up, Ubisoft shared a small update about the Sands of Time remake. Some fans were nervous that the game might have been delayed again or canceled after it went unmentioned during any SGF-related event or showcase. Ubisoft has now said that’s not the case, claiming the game is still “deep” in development.

“Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose,” said Ubisoft on Monday. “This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”

In a follow-up message on Twitter, Ubisoft told people to go check out a different, already released entry in the series, The Rogue Prince of Persia, while “development continues behind the scenes.”

So…there you go. Ubisoft is still remaking Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. If it lands its 2026 release date, it will be out just in time to celebrate the original game’s 23-year anniversary.
