Demonschool Delayed To Avoid Releasing Near Hollow Knight: Silksong

by admin August 26, 2025

After years of anticipation, Team Cherry announced last week that Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on September 4. This took many fans and, evidently, other studios by surprise, namely Ysbryd Games. In response to Team Cherry’s announcement, the indie publisher has delayed the upcoming tactical RPG Demonschool, which was planned to launch one day before Silksong.

In a press release, Ysbryd announces it has pushed Demonschool’s planned September 3 launch to a new release date of November 19. With Silksong arriving next week on the 4th, Ysbyrd read the tea leaves, realizing that releasing a game so close to the most anticipated indie game in recent memory is a bad idea.

“We have to remind ourselves that gaining visibility for Demonschool is our main goal,” says Ysbryd’s Brian Kwek in a statement. “Thus, the Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red. If the September period is going to be Silksong’s moment, then we need to be elsewhere on the calendar to give Demonschool its own moment to be seen and talked about meaningfully.”

Ysbyrd states that developer Necrosoft Games will spend the extra two months enhancing and polishing Demonschool. One positive of the delay, according to Ysbyrd, is that the added time allows Necrosoft time to add additional endings and minigames that were originally going to be included in a post-launch patch.

Similar to Silksong, Demonschool has been in development for some time as well, suffering several delays before this one. It centers on teenage students battling demons in turn-based tactical combat similar to titles such as Into the Breach. We were impressed with the demo we played at Summer Game Fest,  and are optimistic about the full release.

Demonschool launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC for $24.99.

HOTEL BARCELONA – Xbox Launch Trailer | Coming September 26, 2025 – YouTube

Watch On

Back in 2019, Goichi “Suda51” Suda and Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro announced a forthcoming horror game under typically bizarre circumstances. As Fraser reported at the time, the duo—who are responsible for No More Heroes and Deadly Premonition respectively—basically brainstormed the project during a livestream. At the time they decided it would be an indie horror game called Hotel Barcelona. The PS2 game Siren would be an inspiration, and Devolver would publish.

Six years later, it turns out Hotel Barcelona is an actual game that will see an actual release next month—on September 25 to be exact—but it has clearly evolved away from those early ideas. For one, Devolver isn’t publishing: the relatively new Cult Games will handle that duty instead. Another big departure, at least to my eyes, is that Hotel Barcelona doesn’t look scary. It’s a 2.5D sidescrolling action roguelite set in a bizarre hotel, with all the surrealist flair you would expect from this duo. If you came away from that 2019 livestream thinking “great, two of the weirdest fellows in games are making a Siren tribute”, then maybe keep your expectations in check.

The trailer above is ample evidence that Suda51’s affection for 1980s edgelord trappings remains undiminished, but as for the basic gist of what you’re doing in Hotel Barcelona, I’ll let the publisher’s note do the talking. “With trippy anime-style visuals designed by the artists behind genre-defying Japanese hits like Chainsaw Man, Persona, and Final Fantasy VII Remake, try to escape this luxury getaway turned psychedelic nightmare and defeat the hotel’s bloodthirsty new management – tough as nails brutes, psychopaths, and criminals from all over America. Suffice to say, you won’t be alive by checkout.”

The precision-oriented combat comes with an interesting twist: as the protagonist Justine becomes drenched in the blood of her enemies she’ll build towards a special attack that unleashes Dr. Carnival, who is a “deranged murderer” she happens to share her brain with. The game will be split across seven areas, each inspired by different sub-genres of horror. There’s also three-player online co-op and PvP invasions.

Hotel Barcelona releases September 26 and it’s on Steam now. It’s also launching on Xbox Game Pass.

Gears of War: Reloaded is not releasing on PS5 in Japan, but Xbox or PC releases will go ahead

by admin June 11, 2025

Despite passing certification on Xbox Series and PC, Gears of War: Reloaded will not release on PS5 in Japan.

According to IGN, the game – scheduled to release on August 26 – will not be available on PS5 due to “regional rating restrictions” and “platform policies.”

“Due to regional rating restrictions and platform policies, Gears of War: Reloaded will not be released for PlayStation 5 in Japan,” Microsoft wrote in a machine-translated statement.

“Domestic players will still be able to play the game on launch day through Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Game Pass, and Steam. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused to players in Japan who have been waiting for the release of this game.”

It’s thought, but not confirmed, that Gears of War: Reloaded was denied release on PS5 due to the ability to slice up enemies, as Japan’s rating board, CERO, has previously taken issue with mutilation, banning both The Callisto Protocol and the Dead Space remake on consoles for that reason.

Interestingly, Gears of War: Reloaded on the Microsoft Store also doesn’t sport a CERO rating, either, but it does say it’s been classified by the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) instead. It’s not known if the remake failed to secure a CERO certificate first.
