Escape from Tarkov is coming to Steam now its full release is imminent, as confirmed by a picture of a random bloke ironing

by admin September 1, 2025

Escape from Tarkov is finally emerging from an early access period that will have lasted nearly a decade, when its full release on November 15th rolls around, and you’ll soon be able to grab it on Steam.

Yep, it’s taken yeaaaaarrrssss. Tarkov’s initial alpha release came on August 4th, 2016, just a few days before No Man’s Sky arrived for the first time, and just after a little game called Stardew Valley dropped. Think about what you were doing back then. I was a teenager, still far from the job-having husk I’ve since morphed into.

Anyway, old feeling aside, Tarkov’s Steam page looks like it’ll drop any day now, after Battlestate Games studio head Nikita Buyanov decided to tweet some things. First there was a gif of an old bloke holding a steaming iron on August 30th, which everyone took as a tease rather than an endorsement for getting the creases out of your favourite top from the FPS developerman. Said FPS developerman was also, er, rather forthright in his reply to someone who responded to that post with accusations of scamming.

Then, the next day, Buyanov dispensed with the pagentry. “Yes! The page on Steam will be available soon. All the details later,” he posted, alongside a picture of said Steam page that’d be easier to dissect if it didn’t have a great big Steam logo slapped on top of it. You know, just in case you don’t know what a Steam page looks like, or had missed him saying that’s where Tarkov’s heading.

Will existing players who want to switch to Steam have to buy it again and start from scratch? That’s what folks in Buyanov’s replies wondered, and he doesn’t look to have provided an answer. Don’t worry, I’m sure everything’ll work out ok.

If it’s been a while since you’ve escaped to Tarkov, cheaters have remained an issue in it over recent years, but it’s still on our top survival games list. Also here’s an excerpt from an article about Craig Pearson hunting down some toilet roll in it:

I stalked the corridors, cracking doors and checking rooms, closing them as I went, because I was taught to be respectful even during an apocalypse. I found piles of crap and burnt-out detritus, but no loo roll. When I discovered a body pile on the roof it was full of worthless military doodads. This is a world with more shotguns than sponge soft shitter sheets.

Here’s hoping he’s located some loo paper in the years since 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077 anime Edgerunners getting physical Blu-ray release

by admin September 1, 2025

The first season of Cyberpunk 2077’s acclaimed anime spin-off Edgerunners is getting a physical Blu-ray release.

As shared by Crunchyroll, the anime box set is available to pre-order now, with an expected shipping date of 23rd October. It will retail in the US for $123.98 (I have not been able to find a UK specific release, though, with the current retail listing being region A).

For your money, you will receive (obviously) the entire first series, which is 10 episodes, across three discs. It also includes a storyboard booklet from director Hiroyuki Imaishi, a “special” booklet, three animation cel sheets and a two year anniversary poster (see image below).

“In a world of neon and the cybernetically enhanced, can David climb up from a lowly bourgie to become an edgerunning legend?” asks the official blurb. Eurogamer’s former editor-in-chief Wesley Yin-Poole called the Cyberpunk anime “fantastic” when he watched it back in 2022.

If this all sounds like your thing, you can find the Crunchyroll sales page here.

A second season of Edgerunners is now in the works at Netflix. It will comprise 10 episodes, and feature a standalone story within the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this year, Edgerunners’ writer and producer said he doesn’t want to write a jolly story for the series, because “when people are sad”, it makes him “a bit happy”.

Elsewhere in Silksong news, it has not, in fact, taken so long to release due to being stuck in development hell. Rather, hype skyrocketed sales of the original game to give Team Cherry financial freedom.

Last month, our Dom braved the Gamescom queues to go hands-on with Silksong, and came away impressed with its high challenge and how Hornet’s movement differs from the original game’s Knight. You can check out their thoughts in Eurogamer’s Silksong preview here.

The Mortal Kombat II movie is postponed to a spring 2026 release

by admin August 31, 2025

We’ll have to wait until May to discover the fate of Earthrealm and Johnny Cage. Mortal Kombat II, the sequel to 2021’s reboot of the video game adaptation, will be pushed back from its original October 24 release date to May 15, 2026. According to a post on X from the movie’s official account, the “tournament demands a new time and place, worthy of its spectacle.”

The delay goes against the trailer and promotional images that Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema already put out, but the studios may be banking on it as a way to maximize the sequel’s potential success. According to Deadline, the movie could avoid a crowded box office in October and instead perform better in a spring debut. The report added that a record-breaking red-band trailer that saw 106 million views in the first 24 hours and a strong performance in research screenings could have influenced the decision to reschedule.

Impatient fans will have to wait until next year for the sequel that stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The trailer revealed a plot that will revolve heavily around Cage as he joins the fight-to-the-death tournament in order to save Earthrealm. As confusing as the Mortal Kombat video game timeline is, the reboot movies could be a more approachable alternative. Starting with the Mortal Kombat movie from 2021 and leading into the upcoming Mortal Kombat II, the story could end with a third film to close out a potential trilogy, as hinted by the movies’ writer, Greg Russo.

Skyblivion project lead says release date reveal’s finally getting “closer”, as Oblivion remake mod shows off revamped intro

by admin August 31, 2025

Watch out, there’s a goblin over there! Have you dispatched him with a deceased Blade’s rusty blade? Good, we can now keep trekking through the revamped Imperial sewers dungeon that unofficial Oblivion remake Skyblivion’s devs have just shown off.

The massive Skyrim mod’s getting ever closer to the release its creators have pencilled in for later this year. Despite that looming, they’ve not opted to skip what’s become an annual cameo at fan-run Skyrim modding showcase Creation Mod Con, alongside a bunch of other in-the-works Elder Scrolls remake projects and add-ons.

I spoke to Skyblivion project lead Kyle ‘Rebelzize’ Rebel ahead of Creation Mod Con about where the modders are at in terms of announcing the mod’s full release date. “Progress is generally good, volunteer based projects are always a challenge due to people sometimes dropping out or not having as much time to contribute as in the past,” he told me. “To work around that we try as much as possible to keep the project a bit flexible and change our MVP (minimum viable product) according to the team’s capability. I’d say recent developments made us come closer to a potential date announcement, but we will be able to share more about that at a later date.”

The team also revealed that in addition to the GOG release they announced back in June, a release via Nexus Mods is also locked in and there are plans to offer the mod for free via Steam too. I’m intrigued to see how that last one might differ from the other two.

Watch on YouTube

Anyway, the modders showed off the opening 15 minutes of Skyblivion in this latest showcase. Big spoiler alert – the sequence sees some youths in hoodies harass Patrick Stewart into freeing Nirn’s ugliest prisoner before departing to go and voice a sentient poo in the Emoji Movie several years down the line.

I’m not joking about it being Patrick Stewart that does this, as shown a recent dev diary, Skyblivion’s Uriel Septim is his regal spitting image. As for the iconic series of corridors in which he’s shanked up while you decide whether you’re going to default to a sneak build for the hundredth time, Skyblivion’s devs said they’ve opted to keep things “closer to the original experience” at the start so players can get up to speed with the mod’s combo of Skyrim and Oblivion mechanics.

Though, lest you forget this is remake rather than a remaster, something the modders have understandably been keen to stress since the official Oblivion remaster rocked up through a flaming gate earlier this year, there are plenty of the sort of tweaks and touches that’ve left me generally more curious to play this interpretation than Bethesda and Virtuos’ efforts.

As you battle through the caves, there are goblin cave paintings and brief glimpses of the White-Gold Tower to ensure the background’s more than a plain brown mush. They’re subtle elements, designed by modders Anna Khudorenko and Penrutet respectively, but I’m hoping they’ll keep the experience feeling a bit fresher than the remaster’s intentionally minimalistic reskinning.

That said, the fresh addition I dug most from what the modders showed off here is the first look at the Imperial Mausoleum, a hall in the Arboretum where Emperor Stewart’s body will now be interred once he meets his demise. The Skyblivion crew tell RPS this was designed by Gabriele Floris, aka Kazuhide. They’ve lent their two architecture degrees to shaping the mod’s version of Cyrodiil’s capital, with real life mock-ups for a restoration of the Roman Emperor Augustus’ mausoleum being cited as the inspiration for Uriel’s resting place.

This Septim tomb’s just one aspect of what you can expect from the mod’s total revamp of the city. “We’ve really set out to entirely remake the Imperial City to be the grand cosmopolitan city it is known as in lore – that means every district is substantially larger and more detailed,” Rebel tells me.

Skyblivion’s still looking for volunteers with the skills to help get it over the line.

Mortal Kombat 2 movie release slips to 2026

by admin August 30, 2025

The Mortal Kombat 2 movie was set to hit cinemas on October 24th, but it has now been delayed by several months to May 15th, 2026.

According to Deadline, test screenings have been “strong”, but a busy October schedule is likely behind the decision to push back the release date to a more favourable mid-year position.

Mortal Kombat 2 – Red Band trailer.Watch on YouTube

A follow-up to 2021’s live-action Mortal Kombat movie was announced back in January 2021, with Jeremy Slater – head writer on Disney+’s Moon Knight series – confirmed to be handling the script. Simon McQuoid remains on directing duties after helming the first movie. To date, New Line’s three Mortal Kombat-flavoured movies have generated $257.8m (£190.9m) collectively, with its Red Band trailer – embedded above – racking up a record-breaking 106.8m views in just 24 hours.

Mortal Kombat 2 stars the likes of The Boys star Karl Urban, who’s stepping into the high-kicking boots of series icon Johnny Cage. This time around, it’s Cage who’s sucked through a portal and into the world of Mortal Kombat (Lewis Tan’s Cole Young, who had a similar experience in the first movie, is back too).

It also stars Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, CJ Bloomfield as Baraka, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

Microsoft’s next annual update for Windows 11 is in Release Preview testing

by admin August 30, 2025

So, will you see new UI features or more AI tweaks included on your desktop with this update? Microsoft didn’t mention many specific features or changes in the update, other than confirming it shares the same new features and enhancements as the previous version, 24H2, which flips on new features throughout the year, along with some notes for IT:

Windows 11, version 25H2 also includes some feature removals such as PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC). And for our commercial customers, Windows 11, version 25H2 includes the ability for IT admins to remove select pre-installed Microsoft Store apps via Group Policy/MDM CSP on Enterprise/EDU devices.

As Microsoft detailed in June, using its shared servicing branch means updating from the current 24H2 version to 25H2 takes a single restart, as new features are added in earlier updates but left disabled until the enablement package activates them.

To get the update, you can join the Release Preview channel and get Windows 11, version 25H2 (Build 26200.5074) now by going to the Windows Update section of settings and choosing to install it.

Red Sox release Buehler, call up top pitching prospect Tolle

Red Sox release Buehler, call up top pitching prospect Tolle

by admin August 30, 2025

Aug 29, 2025, 05:04 PM ET

BOSTON — Walker Buehler, who got the final out in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series victory last season and was expected to be a key member of the Boston rotation this year, was released on Friday after the Red Sox concluded he couldn’t help their playoff push from the bullpen.

Buehler, 31, has struggled since signing a $21.05 million contract with Boston, going 7-7 with a 5.45 ERA. He made 22 starts before he was demoted to the bullpen last week; in his only relief appearance since earning a save in Game 5 of the Series, he allowed two runs in 2⅓ innings of a loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday.

“It’s tough, but this is where we’re at,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said before Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. “I know it didn’t go his way, or our way. He expected more, and we expected more. … I still think he has stuff in the tank.”

A two-time All Star and two-time World Series champion, Buehler is 54-29 in 144 starts over eight major league seasons. He struggled last year coming off a second Tommy John surgery but pitched perfect ninth in the Series clincher two days after pitching five shutout innings as the starter in Game 3.

Because the Red Sox released him rather than designating him for assignment, he is eligible to sign with any other team immediately.

“This is a guy who’s been a really good starting pitcher in this league for a long time,” Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow said. “He’s struggled to stay on the field with injuries, but we felt like he could give a boost to our rotation. When it became clear that there would be a better opportunity for him to contribute from the ‘pen, we made that move.”

To fill Buehler’s spot on the roster, the Red Sox called up top pitching prospect Payton Tolle who made his major league debut against Pirates ace Paul Skenes. Tolle had a one-hit shutout through five innings but was lifted after allowing back-to-back singles in the sixth in the Pirates 4-2 win.

“We have to make sure we are thinking about best-positioning this group to win as many games down the stretch here,” Breslow said.

A second-round pick out of TCU in the 2024 draft, Tolle had a 3-5 record and 3.04 ERA in 91⅔ innings at three levels in the minors, most recently at Triple-A Worcester.

Boston also recalled utility player Nick Sogard from Worcester and optioned outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia to Worcester.

Warner Bros. Shifts ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Release Date to Summer 2026

by admin August 30, 2025

Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) will have to wait for showtime just a little longer than originally anticipated, as Mortal Kombat II will bow out of 2025’s fall movie release schedule, instead opening in May 2026.

The Warner Bros., New Line, and Atomic Monster production was originally slated to be released on October 24 of this year, but that is no longer the case. According to Deadline, it’s not a reflection of the film’s quality, as the trade reports the film has been testing well, but rather a pivot to bank on the success of the early summer window it saw with Final Destination Bloodlines. The New Line horror flick cultivated a solid box office debut of $51.6 million after opening in mid-May.

With that in mind, the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat will now open on May 15, 2026.

The film stars Urban as Cage—a casting many have been anticipating since the first movie—and will feature returning stars Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Josh Lawson (Kano), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Joe Taslim (Bi-Han), Tadanobu Asano (Lord Raiden), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion). The ensemble is joined by newcomers Tati Gabrielle (Jade) and Adeline Rudolph (Kitana).

Yooka-Replaylee lands autumn release date

“Yooka-Replaylee is built to shine on every platform, and we’re chuffed to bits it’s on Switch 2 from day one, it holds a special place in our hearts (and hands),” said Gavin Price, studio director at Playtonic.”It’s bigger, brighter, bolder, and packed with all the little touches we always dreamed of. We can’t wait for players to jump in.”

“It’s rare to see a game get this kind of second life – not as a remaster, but as a true reinvention,” added Ami Blaire, chief marketing officer at PM Studios. “It’s the kind of release that reminds you why I fell in love with platform games in the first place.”

You can check out a new trailer for Yooka-Replaylee below.

Yooka-Replaylee release date trailer. Watch on YouTube

On Yooka-Replaylee’s release, fans can expect the following key features:

  • REFINED STORY – The events of the first game are relived and retold by the main characters, Yooka and Laylee. New sequences and plot points have been added throughout the adventure at key milestones too.
  • MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER – With an art and animations overhaul and enhanced performance and resolution, the favourite buddy duo has never looked or moved better.
  • BRAND-NEW REXTRO’S ARCADE – The old minigames are no more! Instead you’ll jump into the feet of Rextro the dinosaur and undertake brand-new isometric platforming challenges for collectible rewards.
  • NEW COLLECTIBLE CURRENCY – Capital B’s inept minions have dropped their hard-earned coins all over the place. Collect the official currency of the Hivory Towers to spend on video games’ most beloved sentient vending Machine.
  • VENDI HAS PLENTY TO OFFER – Tonics are back with all new flavours! With the option to equip multiple game-changing enhancements, you can truly customise your playstyle. And as if that wasn’t enough, Vendi has new lines of merchandise for the modern fashionable adventurer.
  • NAVIGATING THE WORLD – Yooka-Replaylee introduces a brand-new map and collectibles tracker, making it easier for you to traverse the environments, track NPC and Pagie locations along with tracking their progress. We’re also introducing a new character in the form of (book)Mark who acts as your warp point and guide.
  • REVISED CONTROLS & CAMERA – The buddy-duo now has access to their entire move set from the start of the game and can sequence the moves together a lot smoother than in the original game. This combined with the revamped camera controls makes Yooka-Replaylee feel like a lot more modern, snappier experience while also directly addressing player feedback on the original game.
  • A DREAMY ORCHESTRAL SOUNDTRACK – The original score from famed video game composers Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) returns but as a beautifully arranged orchestral score. Now seriously, clean out those ears.

“Right now, and after only a short time with it, Yooka-Replaylee is something I can absolutely picture children perhaps a little younger than my own – who are 12 and 10 – whiling away some pleasurable hours with,” I said in Eurogamer’s Yooka-Replaylee preview.

“There are items to collect, secrets to discover, baddies to bop and the colours are a kaleidoscope of joy. Even though overall it was relatively simple, it made me chuckle and smile.”

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
