“It feels unreal in a way”: After nearly 1700 days, Daily Silksong News’ bittersweet goodbye on the eve of Hollow Knight sequel’s release

by admin September 4, 2025

Daily Silksong News, a YouTube channel and Discord server that has been posting constant updates on Team Cherry’s action adventure game Hollow Knight: Silksong, has said farewell after 1694 days of uploads.

The final video, which premiered as Hollow Knight: Silksong became available for sale and titled The End, the video featured a stop-motion skit sending the channel off with a face reveal of the host Araraura. It’s peak early internet energy.

Over almost 1700 days, Daily Silksong news accrued 234,000 YouTube subscribers and a Discord community of thousands of dedicated fans, lurkers, and posters. The live premiere of the final Silksong news video had over 15,000 live viewers, with longtime watchers saying their farewells at the cusp of the game’s release.

Daily Silksong News was a running gag that transformed into something larger than its original intent. The vast majority of the channel’s uploads are brief, with host Araraura announcing there was no news. However, on the occasion when there was news, both Araraura and the channel’s community would erupt with energy.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Araraura expanded on his feelings now that the journey was over: “It feels unreal in a way, I got so used to Silksong just being ‘a game that’s not out’ now that it’s about to be it almost feels like I’m about to experience something that was out of my reach for so long”.

As for how he’ll be celebrating the release of Silksong, Daily Silksong News host Araraua will hang around with his friends and community members until the game goes live: “[I’m] probably gonna watch the DSN finale with my friends and stay on VC until the very last minute before it comes out after that I’m gonna go full blackout mode and enjoy Silksong on my own. No commentary or streaming, just at my own pace”.

Nine months after release, Marvel Rivals will arrive on your aging PS4

by admin September 4, 2025

Marvel Rivals is set to release on PS4 later this month, alongside the hero shooter’s fourth season.

Season 4: Heart of the Dragon will launch on 12th September, introducing new Vanguard hero Angela – a character originally created by Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane, who first appeared in Spawn in 1993. She’s a one-winged angel who can fly and dive into enemies with her spear.

Later in the season, on 25th September, a new Convergence Mode map will be available – K’un-Lun: Heart of Heaven. Other additions include the permanent return of Clone Rumble and Giant-Size Brain Blast; a Free Fight mode with no restrictions on duplicate heroes; and Conquest (Annihilation) mode where players gain points through KOs. A new Arcade Mode hub will make all modes more easily accessible.

Another addition is a Favourites Bar to make picking your favourite heroes easier. Balance adjustments will also be included in this season.

Marvel Rivals will arrive on PS4 on 12th September, to expand the playerbase further.

It’s an interesting move from Marvel Games and NetEase, especially when the likes of Genshin Impact, PUBG, and perhaps even Final Fantasy 14 are ending service for the older console.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Cowboy soulslike Tombwater gets a release date, and its cursed town ain’t big enough for both you and some horrific hombres

by admin September 4, 2025

Yee-haw. Excuse me, I meant to say that wild west soulslike metroidvania Tombwater has walked into the saloon and ordered a release date. ‘I’ll have November 12th, 2025’, it growled, while flashing its big iron at everyone in the watering hole to show it meant business.

Originally roaming the plains of Itch.io, this funky-looking game comes from Max Mraz, developer of Ocean’s Heart and Bloodborne tribute Yarntown, and Jake Wagner. The duo have trained their six-shooters on Steam, where you can already find a demo to check out.

Watch on YouTube

You’ve got a bit of time to do so as well, with that November 12th release still being a little while away. It’s not like there are any other big metroidvaniascoming out in the interim to scratch that itch for you. As far as what you’re in for goes, here’s Tombwater’s story blurb:

Enter Tombwater, where shadows lurk and whispers echo from the deep of abandoned silver mines. This is no longer a town where people live, but a town where people die. A once-thriving community, its people have now been gripped by the tendrils of madness. Step into the well-worn boots of a lone gunslinger, drawn to the eerie, decaying streets by the disappearance of Sheriff Elliott Flintwood — a long-lost friend who’s fought to save the town. Uncover the truth by facing unforgettable terrors and fighting through the madness.

There you go, not-Clint-Eastwood’s nowhere to be found, get your bum in some chaps and go fight some eldrich horrors. Those horrors, glimpsed from the game’s top-down 2D perspective look pretty freaky too. The deputy’s covered in red stuff and bones, and over 20 other boss battles are promised as you explore the likes of canyons and mines with some secrets tucked away.

I’m a bit bemused at a western being as proud to boast melee weapons, spells and tonic brewing as it is a bunch of pistols, shotguns and repeaters you can use to duel demonic dudes to death, but variety is the spice of life. Well, having someone spit chewing tobacco into your lunch was probably the spice of wild west life, but you know what I mean.

If you’re so inclined, you can check out Tombwater’s demo here.

One Piece Chapter 1159 reveals the shocking details behind the God Valley Incident, so here’s what to expect.

After Shakuyaku left the Kuja Pirates and came to Hachinosu, her bar became a worldwide attraction for pirates. Almost every pirate wanted her, including Roger and Xebec. However, the latter got over his infatuation and fell in love with an unknown woman, eventually welcoming a baby who’d later grow up to become Blackbeard.

However, it was not all rosy for Xebec. His friendship with Harald came to an end after their fierce fight. Elsewhere, Garling nominated God’s Valley as the venue for the World Government’s next tournament, revealing that he’d found something there that Imu would like.

39 years ago, Shakuyaku was kidnapped from Hachinosu, an event that shook the whole world. A year later, Garling returned to God Valley, attacked the twins’ mother, and tried to take the babies to Marijoise with him.

At that time, Dragon – who was just a Marine soldier – was posted in God Valley. As we learned from Kuma’s flashback, Ivankov, Ginny, and he also arrived on the island in a slave ship during the same time. Morgans was there too, secretly leaking the island’s information to Hachinosu.

On the other side of the sea, Xebec was on his way to God Valley. When he met Harald on the way, he revealed the reason behind his hurry. Thanks to the World Government’s hefty bounty on him, he feared for his family’s safety and sent his wife and son to God Valley, his homeland.

He also revealed that his real name is Davy D. Xebec, and he belonged to the Davy Clan, who lived in secrecy. The infamous Davy D. Jones was his ancestor. Bound by his promise to the Gorosei, Harald fought Xebec again, but this time he lost on purpose and let his former friend go ahead to save his family.

One Piece Chapter 1159 ended with the beginning of the God Valley tournament. All locals, including child Teach and his mother, had been made slaves in the game. The ultimate prize for winning the tournament is none other than Shakuyaku.

007: First Light gets a March 2026 release date and a $300 collector’s edition

by admin September 3, 2025

As part of Sony’s big Bond-themed PlayStation State of Play, developer IO Interactive has revealed 007: First Light will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on 27th March next year. Additionally, the studio has unveiled a collector’s edition with a price tag likely to leave you at least slightly shaken if not completely stirred.

007: First Light was announced all the way back in 2021, under the name Project 007, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that IO began discussing the game in earnest. The gist is that First Light serves as an origin story for IO’s Bond – part of what’s hoped to be a trilogy – charting the iconic spy’s early days as a “young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless new recruit”. It’s promising stealthy espionage, daredevil action set-pieces, cool spy gadgets, and seemingly everything else you might expect from a Bond game.

IO showed off some of that in more detail during Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play showcase, and you can read more about 007: First Light’s gameplay fundamentals elsewhere on Eurogamer. But perhaps the biggest news of the evening was a confirmed release date. We already knew it was coming next year, but IO has now firmed that up into a 27th March launch. Additionally, it’s also announced a bunch of different editions as pre-orders get underway.

007: First Light gameplay reveal.Watch on YouTube

Anyone that pre-orders 007: First Light’s £59.99/€69.99/$69.99 USD Standard digital edition – which can be purchased for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) – will be upgraded to the Deluxe Edition at no extra cost. This gets you the game itself, 24 hours of early access, and a Deluxe Upgrade cosmetics bundle featuring four exclusive outfit skins, one new weapon skin, and the Gleaming pack. After launch, the Deluxe Edition will cost £69.99/€79.99/$79.99 USD.

There’s also a physical release – known as the Specialist edition – featuring all the above plus the Classic Tuxedo Skin, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. And for the big spenders out there, IO is releasing a limited edition Legacy variant. This physical-only release for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC costs a not-insignificant £259.99/€299.99/$299.99 USD and includes everything featured in other editions, plus a couple of exclusive weapon and outfit skins, a Golden Gun figurine with a stand and secret compartment, a certificate of authenticity, and a magnetic steel case. Oh, and a great big box.

Whether IO Interactive can pull off its ambitious Bond origin story remains to be seen, but Eurogamer’s Alex Donaldson previously opined that signs are good. “In one trailer, [the Hitman studio] has totally proven it ‘gets’ Bond,” he wrote, “and it’s all about the salivating consumerism.”

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

How ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong’ Fans Turned Waiting for Its Release Into a Game

by admin September 3, 2025

Initially, Silksong was planned as downloadable content for the original game, before its creators expanded it into a full-fledged sequel. In August, when developers surprise announced that the game would launch in just two weeks, at least half a dozen other indie developers immediately delayed their own games to clear the way. “Dropping the GTA of indie games with 2 weeks notice makes everyone freak out,” wrote Demonschool developer Necrosoft on Bluesky on its delay.

Despite a seven-year development cycle, excitement for the game never died down. Reddit user The_Real_Kingsmould tells WIRED the community has “largely kept itself afloat with its insanity and the occasional crumb of news.” The posts, the jokes—it’s all “that feeling of being a part of something,” he says.

“When [there’s no news], everyone’s sad, and then everyone goes insane and starts spouting misinformation without batting an eye,” he says. “When there’s news it’s the happiest day of your life. There’s hype posts EVERYWHERE. All your hope in Team Cherry is restored.”

Over the years, the community has passed the time by role-playing with the game’s lore. There was the sacrifice era, where a handful of prominent users were chosen as “dreamers,” a nod to characters in Hollow Knight who traded the waking world for eternal sleep, and a Hollow Knight. These community members were then “sealed away”—banned from the subreddit, as it were—and are only allowed to return after the game launches.

Other memorable moments in the subreddit include a play on shapeshifter Nosk, one of the original game’s hidden bosses. Fans began pretending they’d encountered fake copies of Silksong around the world, granted to them by “Snosk,” a version of the bug with a copy of Silksong for a head. “Pretty fast there were a lot of PSA’s going around: do not approach or attempt to pick up any copy of Silksong outdoors, or one that isn’t yours,” The_Real_Kingsmould tells WIRED of the in-joke. “But there were also users trying to deny the existence of Snosks (having been “overtaken”), claiming the copies are safe and all you have to do is go outside.”

This particular campaign came to a head after moderators called for anti-snosk fan art to “banish the Snosks for good,” he says. People began pumping out art of the subreddit specifically, not the game, he says, until it was enough: “After a short while the Snosks were gone.”

The subreddit has built its own lore over the years. Even today, users in the subreddit have flair that gives them faction labels like doubter, denier, or “beleiver,” which is purposefully misspelled because “”there is no lie in be[lie]ving.”

Stark says Silksong is fertile ground for role-playing fans because the game’s lore is so deep. “Hollow Knight on the surface kind of reads like a [Dark Souls] game, because the lore is a bit inscrutable until you get really deep into it,” she says. “It sometimes talks in riddles. It takes a long time to get to all of the pieces, and sometimes the pieces really rely on the player’s interpretation.”

The fan communities are no different. “Subreddit users together have created their own interpretations from these pieces of lore that are strange and playing in layers,” Stark says.

With Silksong’s global release imminent across Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC the communities will soon shift their attention from waiting to playing.

If the game is as dense as Hollow Knight, there will be months, if not years, of discoveries and theories for fans to tear through on Reddit. Others will enter new chapters of their own lives.

Araraura’s time tracking Silksong news with YouTube updates is coming to an end. He’ll shut down the YouTube channel: “nothing to look forward to anymore, so no new videos,” he says. He feels wistful at times about that, after getting so used to uploading videos to the channel, but ready. “I think I’ve finally made peace with that,” he says. “Now I’m just really really excited for Silksong.”

Next Superman Movie Gets Release Date As New DCU Ramps Up

by admin September 3, 2025

James Gunn’s Superman was a great comic-book movie unburdened by much of the multi-billion-dollar franchise machine powering it, and a sequel isn’t far away. Because even though this summer’s DC blockbuster didn’t feel like just another marketing beat on a pitch deck, it very much is that, too. Gunn’s announcement on Wednesday that Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters in 2027 shows his rebooted DCU is about to be in full swing.

“Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027,” the director posted on social media today alongside comic book artist Jim Lee’s rendering of Superman and Lex Luthor standing next to each other, the latter appearing in his green and purple Warsuit. This “Lexorian armor” is what the billionaire genius uses to even the playing field with his himbo Kryptonian rival, and suggests at the very least the next movie will give us another showdown between the two. Or maybe they’ll end up working together to face an even deadlier, extinction-level event like, say, a visit from Brainiac?

July 2027 will be just two years after Superman arrived in theaters, bringing the box office success back in record time. But it’s far from the only upcoming DCU movie currently on the calendar. Here’s a brief look at the shows and movies in development that currently have dates attached to them:

  • Lanterns TV Series: Early 2026
  • Supergirl: June 26, 2026
  • Clayface: September 11, 2026
  • Man of Tomorrow: July 9, 2027
  • Dynamic Duo: June 30, 2028

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman is also in the mix with a slated release date of October 1st, 2027, further powering DC’s presence at the multiplex, though the Robert Pattinson-led films are not, strictly speaking, part of James Gunn’s DCU.

You may be detecting a pattern here: we’re getting at least one Superman-related movie and one Batman-related movie annually for the next two years. There’s also Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, and Deathstroke movies in development, alongside a bunch of other projects. Gunn has previously promised that the scripts will come first in these productions, preventing messy reshoots and other expensive holdups until the stories have been locked down. That at least sounds like it’s in contrast to the recent Marvel process of letting the needs of franchise development run the show.

The proof, of course, will be in this new DCU’s track record once it actually takes shape. For now it’s just one good movie and some cool ideas. We’ll see how the next two years pan out. In the meantime, Peacemaker season 2 just kicked off on HBO streaming for everyone looking for clues about where Gunn’s interconnected superhero universe will go next.

Arrowhead will target Helldivers 2’s “crippling” tech issues now Xbox release is sorted, but would rather not do a “performance-only update”

by admin September 3, 2025

Shams Jorjani, boss of Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead, has taken to Discord to address the rise in reports of performance issues following the arrival of the shooter’s Into the Unjust update. In addition to admitting that the new addition has missed the mark from a stability pespective, the exec added that the game’s Xbox release now being in the rear view mirror should free up more resources to tackle performance problems.

Since the Terminid spelunking expedition-themed update arrived yesterday, players have cited an uptick in crashes that Arrowhead are already looking into, with the installation size the game’s ballooned to on PC and your usual sorts of pesky bugs also being sources of ire, at least among vocal online Helldivers.

In light of that, Arrowhead CEO Jorjani made one of his fairly regular trips to Helldivers 2’s Discord server last night, to address some of the concerns folks there were raising. “Performance is something we’ve talked about a TON today. It’s not good enough,” he admitted fairly early on. “A fix for some of the most immediate things is being prepped.”

“Nobody is saying ‘this is fine’ at Arrowhead or PlayStation,” he added an a separate post. “We are talking about what to do differently – cus we really want to release content AND keep performance in line. With [the] Xbox release behind us more resources will be available.” Jorjani made the last point a number of times, when discussing fixes for performance issues that’ve drawn ire from players on and off for a while, but have come to a head with this update.

The update isn’t the root cause of the issues. Instead, the CEO links them to a build-up of engine-related limitations he calls “technical debt”. “The technical debt is crippling,” he wrote in another of these many posts. “With the Xbox release behind us we’ll be able to take a much better stab at it. Like a double stab with a bigger knife.”

Jorjani reckons a single massive performance-focused update – something he said Arrowhead would “prefer not to have to do”, but will if it’s “needed” – wouldn’t be enough to tackle all of this tech debt. He also suggested that pulling all the game’s developers off of creating new additions, like warbonds, and putting them onto fixes isn’t the simple solution it might seem, writing: “if we could put every single soul on just performance/stability and significantly improve those we would – but not everyone can make an impact on performance and the issues that need to be fixed are complex and take time to work at.”

I didn’t run into any major issues while dipping my toe into the update last night, but here’s hoping Arrowhead can offer some performance relief soon. For now, their CEO doesn’t reckon this uptick in player dissatisfaction has put the shooter back in as dire straits as it found itself following the Escalation of Freedom update last year. The studio ended up unveiling a 60-day plan of tweaks, in an effort to turn around player sentiment back then.

While acknowledging there are “definitely some similarities” between the two situations, Jorjani argued that this time it at least isn’t a double whammy of player frustrations about how the game plays mechanic-wise and how it runs. “Since then, I think it’s safe to say we’ve fixed one thing and kept wobbling on the other,” he wrote. “I hope we proved back then that we won’t give up till we get it right.”

The Sonic Rush games on Nintendo DS are getting a “definitive” PC release care of boisterous fangamers

by admin September 2, 2025

A group of fangame developers have taken it upon themselves to make a new Sonic Rush game for PC, combining the previous Sonic Rush games for Nintendo DS into one “definitive” remastering, with extra stuff and some apparently overdue fixes. Seems bold! I missed the Rush games back in the noughties, but I do like me a Sonic. Here’s a trailer for Sonic Rush Rerun.

Watch on YouTube

“The idea behind this remaster is to take the greatest strengths of the Sonic Rush trilogy, crank them up to 11, and combine them together to bring this game formula to its PEAK,” explain the developers in the blurb. “We want to make a definitive version of Sonic Rush for PC with additional content and to fix the problems with the original game.” I assume they’re calling it a “trilogy” in light of the general conviction that Sonic Colors is an unofficial third Rush game.

I like the energy here, but I fear I must break off this report to deliver an agonising Old Man appraisal of something that has been bugging me for years. PSA game developers: the “up to 11” line is not supposed to be repeated sincerely. It comes from 1984 rock band mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, in which there’s a scene where lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel shows off his custom amp, which has a volume setting with 11 levels, but isn’t actually any louder than an amp with 10 levels.

It’s supposed to be a joke about meaningless exaggeration. But because humans are forgetful, perishable sacks of meat, and perhaps because videogame-adjacent humans especially tend to venerate numbers like gods, I keep hearing the phrase “turn it up to 11” uttered with what sounds like full seriousness.

I don’t know if there’s some kind of central marketing authority I can appeal to, here, but please can you all knock it off, because whenever I read these words in press releases, I feel like I am taking crazy pills. If nothing else, game developers, the nature of the joke means that you don’t have to stop at 11. You can turn it up to 12! You can turn it up to 13, even! First one to turn it up to 13 in a press release gets their game an automatic 13/10. Or would do, if we had a scoring system. See, I always give myself an out.

Anyway, back to Sonic Rush Rerun. The project lead is MelohRush, who got into fan animations because he played Sonic Frontiers and thought it needed “an extra punch of style”. These youngsters! So impetuous. According to his portfolio, he’s worked on *grits teeth* 11 Sonic projects to date.

He’s joined by lead programmer Crimznraze, lead modeller Ozark and a small village of modellers, programmers, level designers, animators, sprite artists, composers, sound designers, voice actors, writers and graphic designers. It’s a tidy production. You can find some music for the game’s soundtrack on the Youtube page.

Sonic Rush Rerun has no release date. Thanks to Jeremy for spotting it and lobbing it into the friendly sausage machine that is our news Slack. As ever with fangames, its eventual launch rests on Sega’s willingness not to sue the pants off the creators for breach of copyright. Sega have proven pretty relaxed on this front, as large corporations go, and have reaped the fruits in the form of a lively community of Sonicmakers, busily engineering forms of hedgehog-based entertainment poor Yuji Naka never dreamed of in 1991. Some have gone onto work for the Blue Blur directly.

Fan-made The Crew revival gets a release date, a year and a bit on from the Ubisoft racer’s controversial shutdown

by admin September 2, 2025

The developers behind The Crew Unlimited, a community project that aims to make Ubisoft racer The Crew playable again following its unceremonious shutdown last year, have announced a release date.

If you need a bit of a refresher, Ubisoft’s decision to take The Crew’s servers offline in March 2024 rendered it totally unplayable even for those who own a physical copy, due to its online-only nature. That’s since served as the spark for the Stop Killing Games campaign we’ve reported on as its organisers have petitioned lawmakers across the world to ensure companies are required by law to put concrete end-of-life plans in place, when they decide to switch a game’s servers off. It also set a group of Crewers off on a quest to make the game playable again.

For a year or so, The Crew Unlimited’s devs have been working towards that goal. They’ve now announced a release date for their creation, which comprises of a server emulator designed to stand in for those Ubisoft took offline. As per an announcement on Discord from project lead whammy4, it’ll come out on September 15th, 2025, and be distributed for free to minimise the chances of the publisher directing their lawyers to intervene.

“We were trying everything we could, anything to preserve the game,” reads The Crew Unlimited’s freshly published website. “We eventually came to the conclusion that writing a server emulator for The Crew was the best and only solution. This would allow us to effectively implement both an Offline Mode and an Online Mode back into the game, Offline Mode simply being a local server running on your computer while playing the game. Your local server, your local savegames, your game. No one will ever be able to take this away from you now.”

The Crew Unlimited’ll be grabbable from that same site once it’s live, and you’ll need to have owned The Crew on PC before to access it, as the devs won’t be illegally distributing game files. You know, because that’d almost definitely result in Ubisoft’s lawyers coming down like a ton of bricks. Though, the project’s Discord FAQ does see them admit that they’ve got no way on their end of telling a legit copy from a pirated copy, so they’ll have to let all players in regardless, which sounds far from ideal.

In a Discord discussion linked in the FAQ, the devs have made some notes about what works in terms of re-downloading your old The Crew save files. I’d say players may well be in for a tricky time getting things up and running. The devs say you’ll need to start from scratch unless you only want to play offline, and have already used a tool they developed to dump your save prior to the game’s shutdown.

Meanwhile, they also hint that their online server may harbour a few additions or changes. That said, the group insist tweaks outside of any new stuff would be limited to “technical improvements and careful rebalancing”, and that they’d “never change the core experience of the game”.

All in all, even though the project’s been public info for around a year now, with whammy4 having posted videos of them driving around in it to YouTube, it’s maybe worth waiting to see how the release plays out before you give it a go.
