Minecraft’s “Vibrant Visuals” update finally has a release date

by admin June 15, 2025

Minecraft’s Vibrant Visuals update finally has a release date: 17th June.

We’ve known for some time that Mojang was planning on a visual overhaul for Minecraft, and yesterday (14th June), the studio released a new video not only reminding us just what Vibrant Visuals brings to the game, improving “visual elements such as directional lighting, volumetric fog, and more”, but also how the team achieved it.

MINECRAFT’S VISUAL REFRESH!Watch on YouTube

And the new feature really does elevate the world of Minecraft. As the developer explains, “every biome has their own atmosphere”, so warmer biomes will look more orange and yellowish, while cooler ones will take on a crisper blue appearance.

“This is a visual enhancement – there are no changes to Minecraft’s gameplay,” Mojang said. “For example, visual shadows will not impact light levels in a game-mechanics sense, or affect where hostile mobs spawn. Vibrant Visuals will be easy to access and approachable for many more Minecraft players, as it will be available on many platforms as a simple menu toggle.”

“This is a start on this journey of modernising the look and feel of Minecraft,” explained Vibrant Visuals Lead, Dejan Dimic. “So we look forward to hearing more feedback from the players.”

Vibrant Visuals is coming to supported devices for those running Minecraft Bedrock Edition, and if your device can run it, you can expect the new feature to be on by default once it updates. It still isn’t yet available for Java, but Mojang insists it’s “actively working” on it.

Did you catch the news that the roster of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is expanding outside of the Sonic universe to include other Sega characters and beyond? As announced at last week’s Summer Game Fest, joining the likes of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, will be Joker from Persona 5, Ichiban from the Like A Dragon games, Vocaloid artist Hatsune Miku, and – the reason why I’m making this seemingly nonsensical tangent – Steve from Minecraft, too.

It is, of course, a flagship year for Minecraft, thanks to the unbridled popularity of its cinema-trashing live-action movie adaptation.

ParaNorman to activate Coraline cult with 3D release for Halloween

by admin June 15, 2025

Coraline, the debut feature of the stop-motion studio Laika, was a modest hit in 2009, earning just over $75 million in the U.S.. But over the years, the macabre coming-of-age tale earned cult status, and when Fathom Events put it back in theaters last summer, it made another $33 million — a total that’s basically unheard of for most modern re-releases. So it’s no surprise that Laika is hoping a revival of ParaNorman, its follow-up to Coraline and a similarly horror-tinged teen tale, may strike similar gold. ParaNorman is certainly good enough to recommend.

Remastered for RealD 3D and 2D formats, Laika plans to re–release ParaNorman for a one-week theatrical run in the lead up to Halloween (which, bless, is on a party-friendly Friday this year). The film will also run with a new short, The Thrifting, directed by Laika’s lead character designer Thibault LeClercq and written by Chris Butler, who directed ParaNorman. The short stars Anna Kendrick, who co-starred in the original movie, and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard, who was only 10 when ParaNorman came out!

ParaNorman is a treat for zombie buffs and anyone with a taste for old 1950s B-movies. In the movie, 11-year-old Norman (Kodi-Smit McPhee) discovers he can speak to the dead, and is quickly tasked by the ghost of his wacky uncle to undo a witch’s curse that plagues his town. With a ragtag team of kids, Norman embarks on an Amblin-esque adventure that Laika pushes to the very edge of spoopy. The stop-motion animation is deliriously elaborate and colorful.

Ripple, SEC Ask Court to Dissolve XRP Injunction, Release $125M in Escrow

by admin June 15, 2025

In brief

  • SEC and Ripple have filed a joint motion to dissolve the injunction and release escrowed funds.
  • The latest proposal would see $50M paid to the SEC and the remainder returned to Ripple.
  • The two are trying to wind down a case that began in 2020, centered on XRP sales as alleged unregistered securities.

The Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple Labs have jointly asked a Manhattan federal court to dissolve a prior injunction and release $125 million currently held in escrow, according to a filing made Thursday in the Southern District of New York.

Under the proposal, Ripple would pay a $50 million civil penalty to the SEC, with the remaining funds to be returned to the company. The filing marks a major step in ending a case that has stretched nearly four years and triggered wide industry scrutiny.

Ripple directed Decrypt to court documents when requested for comment.

The joint motion follows earlier efforts by both parties to suspend ongoing appeals and reach a negotiated resolution. The request must still be approved by U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres.

Filed in 2020, the SEC’s lawsuit accused Ripple of raising $1.3 billion by selling XRP as unregistered securities.

Ripple denied wrongdoing, and in 2023 secured a partial legal win when Judge Torres ruled that programmatic sales of XRP on public exchanges to retail buyers did not constitute securities offerings. However, the court did find violations in Ripple’s institutional sales.

After that ruling, the SEC sought a $2 billion penalty, which was later reduced to $125 million. Under the proposed deal, Ripple and its top executives will pay $50 million, with the remaining funds reverting to Ripple. The SEC, under new leadership, has agreed to the arrangement.

The move comes as the SEC, under President Donald Trump, has begun to pivot away from its previously aggressive crypto enforcement under former President Joe Biden.

Several high-profile lawsuits and investigations initiated by former Chair Gary Gensler have since been dropped.

In May, SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw criticized the shift, warning that the agency’s crypto retreat endangers investors.

Judge Torres had previously rejected a motion for an indicative ruling on the settlement, citing procedural issues due to the pending appeals before the Second Circuit. Both sides have since filed to suspend those appeals.

XRP was trading at $2.13 on Thursday, down 5.2% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.

Stellar Blade PC debut welcomes record numbers for a PlayStation published single player release

by admin June 14, 2025

UPDATE 13/6/25: Stellar Blade really has got off to a stellar start on PC, and has now reached a concurrent player peak of 183,830 over on Steam.

The original story continues below.

ORIGINAL 12/6/25: The PlayStation published Stellar Blade made its way onto PC last night, and has got off to a very good start indeed.

According to SteamDB, Stellar Blade has already welcomed a peak player count of 99,980, less than 24 hours since its release on PC. This means it currently has the highest peak concurrent player count for a PlayStation published single player game on the platform.

To compare, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has a peak player count of 66,436, while Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition has a peak of 56,557. Meanwhile, The Last of Us Part 1 has a peak of 36,496 and its sequel – The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered – has a peak of 30,690.

Stellar Blade PC features trailer. Watch on YouTube

As for what players are saying, right now Stellar Blade is sitting quite happily with an “overwhelmingly positive” Steam review average. “In a world full of unoptimised slop it really is great to see a game run so smoothly,” reads one such review.

So, yes, things are going well for Stellar Blade’s PC release. Back in February of this year, Shift Up stated in a financial report it expects the PC version to exceed console sales.

“In the AAA game market, PC devices have a higher market share than consoles, so we expect the performance of the PC version to exceed that of the console version,” the company said at the time. “We are particularly observing trends such as the significant expansion of the single-player action game market in the Asian gaming industry.”

Not sure if the game is for you? In Eurogamer’s original Stellar Blade review we noted it “has a fair bit of weirdness”, but ” its killer tunes and vibey, flow-state combat – plus a transformative hard mode – are enough to leave you entranced”.

If you are popping into Stellar Blade for the first time now that the game is available on PC, but need a little helping hand here or there, be sure to check out our guides. Here’s one on all Stellar Blade can locations to get you started.

Monster Hunter Now Season 6 set to release soon

by admin June 10, 2025

Niantic has announced that Season 6: Scarlet Gaze in the Gloam will release on June 19th for Monster Hunter Now and will include the debut of riftborne monsters along with a whole host of updates.

With the arrival of summer, Niantic is announcing that Season 6: Scarlet Gaze in the Gloam is coming to Monster Hunter Now on June 19. This season brings a whole host of updates, including the debut of riftborne monsters that have been influenced by abnormal rifts, and the introduction of style customization, which uses materials from riftborne monsters.

Highlights for this upcoming season include:

*The Debut of Riftborne Monsters – Powered up by the influence of abnormal rifts, some monsters will appear as riftborne monsters! These monsters will appear at 8★ and above, and they are a good deal stronger than usual. At launch, Riftborne monsters include Rathian, Tobi-Kadachi, Barroth and others, with more being introduced in the future.

*New Feature: Style Customization – Style customization lets you upgrade your weapons even further, allowing you to boost the stats of grade 8 or higher weapons. Additionally, changing the style of your weapon will allow you to alter the actions of each weapon type. Each weapon will have two new styles to choose from, and depending on the style you select, long-press actions and combos will change, offering different ways to use each weapon.

*Additional Monsters – Get ready to face Nargacuga, as well as Beotodus, Bishaten and Great Wroggi.

*Additional Weapon Type – The hunting horn boosts both yourself and your allies while hunting. While attacking, you accumulate notes, and by aligning the notes in a specific order, you can trigger various melody effects. These melody effects can include increased attack and defense stats, Special Gauge acceleration, and more. Each weapon has its own unique melody effects that can be activated.

Call of Duty team “committed” to bringing series to Nintendo, as Black Ops 7 release omits Switch 2

by admin June 9, 2025

The next Call of Duty installment was announced over the weekend, along with its release platforms: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is slated to debut across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PS4, and PC.

Black Ops 7’s omission of a Switch 2 release (at least presently) from the launch platform line-up has raised some eyebrows due to the fact that, back in 2023, Microsoft announced a deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to its platforms on “the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity”.

However, while for now there is no word of a Switch 2 release for Black Ops 7, the team is “committed” to bringing the Call of Duty series to Nintendo, Activision has told Eurogamer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – Official Teaser | Xbox Games Showcase 2025. Watch on YouTube

In a statement shared with Eurogamer, Activision confirmed: “We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams [are] working on it. Will share details when ready.”

On its release, Black Ops 7 will be able to be played solo or with friends “in a thrilling and innovative” co-op campaign, while also having the series’ “signature” multiplayer experience. This will include new maps and more from Zombies.

The upcoming game is being helmed by Treyarch and Raven Software, with the developers promising the “most mind-bending” Black Ops release yet. It stars Heroes and Gilmore Girls’ Milo Ventimiglia as David Mason.

We can expect further details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 later this summer, the team has said, so stay tuned for more.

Gorgeous stealth adventure Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream gets July release date and demo

by admin June 9, 2025

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream – the stealth adventure that’s been eliciting all sorts of oohs and ahhs thanks to its lovely looks and impressive motion capture – finally has a release date. It’s coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 15th July, with a demo available now.

Eriksholm is the work of River End Games, a Swedish studio comprised of around 16 people (making its presentational pizzaz all the more impressive), and it takes its inspiration from the Scandinavia of the early 1900s. This isn’t quite the world as we know it – a mysterious illness known as Heartpox has the city in its grip, for starters – but it’s here we meet our protagonist, Hanna, who becomes embroiled in a deadly adventure after her brother disappears.

River End Games calls Eriksholm an “isometric, narrative-driven stealth game”, and it shares many of the trappings of the stealth-tactics genre – including sight cones, that isometric perspective, and multiple characters with complementary abilities you’ll use to navigate the city undetected. Based on my time with a couple of levels not so long ago, though, it appears to play a bit more puzzle-y, with obstacles having specific solutions.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream release date trailer.Watch on YouTube

It’s unclear if that’s indicative of the broader experience, but I’m certainly intrigued enough to want to play more. Not least because Eriksholm – with its endearing cast and gorgeous environmental design – is a lovely world to sink into.

And River End Games is now letting everyone have a nose around Eriksholm ahead of its launch, thanks to a newly released demo on Steam and the Epic Games Store. River End hasn’t specified what’s in the demo, but it’s promising a glimpse of Eriksholm’s “atmospheric design, tense stealth sequences, and emotionally driven narrative”. And you’ll be able to carry your progress over to the full game if you’re suitably convinced.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream launches for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 15th July, and (depending on platform) it should cost around £33.50 GBP/€39.99/$39.99 USD.
