The Creator of ‘Severance’ Just Explained a Key Logistical Question

by admin August 20, 2025

When it comes to Severance, there are rarely simple answers. Everything is wrapped in mystery and intrigue. Which, admittedly, is kind of the best part about it. We love to explore and speculate about what’s going on at Lumon. And yet, getting an answer, even a small one, here and there is nice. Which is what the creator of the show, Dan Erickson, just did.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Erickson dodged questions about big topics like the structure of season three or the ultimate length of the series but did definitely answer a question about the logistics and mechanics of the boundaries of a severed person. Basically, he’s asked how Ms. Casey transformed into Gemma by leaving through the emergency door, but Mark and the rest of the Innies have to take an elevator up/down several floors to do the same. Where’s the line? What’s the boundary?

“So, yeah, this is actually also—this is a whole section (in the show bible) of how exactly that the severance threshold works,” Erickson said. “And basically the company can build it however they want. And the idea is that there sort of is just a section—if you were to dig through the wall of the severed floor, you would eventually reach a point where you’re beyond the threshold and you’re no longer within that space where your Innie is being activated. And so, they would have basically just designed it where that doorway is, where the cutoff point is.”

Which, logistically, is a little wonky, but we buy it. The emergency door was down a long hallway, so maybe that hallway goes beyond the boundaries of the elevator, just on a different axis. Either way, we love that he’s thought about this and had an answer. There are a few other answers at the interview, including confirmation that Erickson does, at times, read Reddit theories. Click here to check it out.

Severance season three has been in the works for several months now and, it seems, may start production soon. Fingers crossed maybe it hits Apple TV+ next year, or at the very latest, early the year after.

Satoshi Next? XRP Community Asks Question After This Development

by admin June 24, 2025

In a surprising twist that has set the XRP community abuzz, Ripple cofounder Arthur Britto has broken a 14-year silence, leading some to speculate about the return of another iconic figure — Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Arthur Britto, the enigmatic co-creator of XRP Ledger and cofounder of Ripple Labs, posted to X on Monday for the first time since creating the account in August 2011.

The Ripple cofounder shared an emoji of a face without a mouth, which might mean speechlessness, although the actual meaning of the post remains unknown.

Britto, along with David Schwartz and Jed McCaleb, launched XRP Ledger (XRPL) in 2012. In 2011, the three engineers had set out to develop XRP Ledger. He also cofounded “NewCoin” with Schwartz, McCaleb and Chris Larsen, which was later “OpenCoin” before being renamed Ripple Labs.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz reacted by saying that the post on Britto’s account “was not a hack or compromise.”

Satoshi next?

The return of Ripple cofounder Arthur Britto on social media has sparked fresh speculation. Some in the crypto community are drawing parallels between the Ripple cofounder and Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who vanished from public forums and communication channels in 2011 and has not been heard from since.

On Dec. 13, 2010, Satoshi Nakamoto made his final post to the BitcoinTalk forum. On April 23, 2011, the Bitcoin creator sent his final emails to fellow developers that he had “moved on to other things” and that Bitcoin was in “good hands.”

With Britto’s unexpected reappearance, the crypto community is wondering if Satoshi Nakamoto, too, might one day return.

Some are even speculating that the Ripple cofounder might be or have worked alongside Satoshi, which has yet to be validated but adds fuel to an already raging curiosity.

Why Some AI Models Spew 50 Times More Greenhouse Gas to Answer the Same Question

by admin June 19, 2025

Like it or not, large language models have quickly become embedded into our lives. And due to their intense energy and water needs, they might also be causing us to spiral even faster into climate chaos. Some LLMs, though, might be releasing more planet-warming pollution than others, a new study finds.

Queries made to some models generate up to 50 times more carbon emissions than others, according to a new study published in Frontiers in Communication. Unfortunately, and perhaps unsurprisingly, models that are more accurate tend to have the biggest energy costs.

It’s hard to estimate just how bad LLMs are for the environment, but some studies have suggested that training ChatGPT used up to 30 times more energy than the average American uses in a year. What isn’t known is whether some models have steeper energy costs than their peers as they’re answering questions.

Researchers from the Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences in Germany evaluated 14 LLMs ranging from 7 to 72 billion parameters—the levers and dials that fine-tune a model’s understanding and language generation—on 1,000 benchmark questions about various subjects.

LLMs convert each word or parts of words in a prompt into a string of numbers called a token. Some LLMs, particularly reasoning LLMs, also insert special “thinking tokens” into the input sequence to allow for additional internal computation and reasoning before generating output. This conversion and the subsequent computations that the LLM performs on the tokens use energy and releases CO2.

The scientists compared the number of tokens generated by each of the models they tested. Reasoning models, on average, created 543.5 thinking tokens per question, whereas concise models required just 37.7 tokens per question, the study found. In the ChatGPT world, for example, GPT-3.5 is a concise model, whereas GPT-4o is a reasoning model.

This reasoning process drives up energy needs, the authors found. “The environmental impact of questioning trained LLMs is strongly determined by their reasoning approach,” study author Maximilian Dauner, a researcher at Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences, said in a statement. “We found that reasoning-enabled models produced up to 50 times more CO2 emissions than concise response models.”

The more accurate the models were, the more carbon emissions they produced, the study found. The reasoning model Cogito, which has 70 billion parameters, reached up to 84.9% accuracy—but it also produced three times more CO2 emissions than similarly sized models that generate more concise answers.

“Currently, we see a clear accuracy-sustainability trade-off inherent in LLM technologies,” said Dauner. “None of the models that kept emissions below 500 grams of CO2 equivalent achieved higher than 80% accuracy on answering the 1,000 questions correctly.” CO2 equivalent is the unit used to measure the climate impact of various greenhouse gases.

Another factor was subject matter. Questions that required detailed or complex reasoning, for example abstract algebra or philosophy, led to up to six times higher emissions than more straightforward subjects, according to the study.

There are some caveats, though. Emissions are very dependent on how local energy grids are structured and the models that you examine, so it’s unclear how generalizable these findings are. Still, the study authors said they hope that the work will encourage people to be “selective and thoughtful” about the LLM use.

“Users can significantly reduce emissions by prompting AI to generate concise answers or limiting the use of high-capacity models to tasks that genuinely require that power,” Dauner said in a statement.

Will Your Switch 2 Arrive In Time? It’s The Question On Everyone’s Mind

by admin June 4, 2025

On the eve of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, there’s one question on everyone’s mind: When, exactly, will the shiny new console they preordered arrive?

It’s a question that is surprisingly difficult to answer. While one might assume Switch 2 preorders to arrive on launch day, June 5, one look at social media shows that is far from the case. There is frustration from those with Switch 2 preorders who have had their preorders canceled last minute. Others are dealing with vague arrival times that makes it unclear if it will arrive on launch day or some time later. Some have preorders that are set to arrive almost a week later, adding to the confusion.

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch 2 – Official System Overview Trailer

Among those of us here at GameSpot, there are at least two people who preordered at Target who apparently won’t get their Switch 2 orders until June 11. Another who ordered from Walmart is set to have theirs delivered by launch day, but the exact timing is unclear, with Walmart stating it will arrive before 10 PM despite previous guarantees of delivery by 9 AM.

People who preordered from Walmart seem to have it especially bad, with reports on social media of canceled preorders at the last minute related to payment issues, despite many users claiming to have double checked their payment info and confirmed with customer service representatives that their order was secure.

Even those who preordered directly from Nintendo aren’t safe, as Nintendo makes clear on its website that those who signed up to preorder directly from the My Nintendo Store might not receive the chance to purchase a Switch 2 ahead of launch day. Those who did secure preorders may receive their Switch 2 on June 5, but Nintendo makes clear there’s no guarantee.

It’s a familiar feeling to that of April 24, when Switch 2 preorders first went live and would-be Switch 2 owners had to endure disappearing orders, overloaded websites, and virtual queues that went nowhere. The entire Switch 2 preorder process was a chaotic mess, with potential buyers waiting for close to two hours, all the while unclear if waiting in a digital line was doing them any good or if their preorders would suddenly vanish into thin air.

Despite all the technical difficulties and confusion, it’s clear demand for Nintendo’s new console is extremely high. It is, after all, not every day a new Nintendo console arrives, and Switch 2-exclusive games like Mario Kart World will be the kind of game players keep coming back to for years to come. Some retailers will have limited Switch 2 stock to sell on launch day, and people are already lining up outside stores for a chance to secure one.

Once the Switch 2 is more widely available this will all be a distant memory (or nightmare), but for now, it’s mostly just disappointing how frustrating and confusing the entire process has been. For those waiting to see if their preorder arrives on time (or at all), good luck. We’re all going to need it.

The Nintendo Switch 2’s latest discourse asks an important question: will your grandparents notice a massive number two right under their noses?

by admin May 28, 2025

You. You’ve asked an elderly or non-gaming person to buy you either games or a console before, right? Well, the Nintendo Switch 2’s latest discourse is all about whether doing that with Ninty’s latest hardware is likely to result in you accidentally getting an OG Switch instead.

Yep, people are fiercely debating whether a box having a fairly big number two on it next to the words ‘Nintendo Switch’ is enough to stop it being mixed up with another box that doesn’t have a two on it, but does also say ‘Nintendo Switch’. This is important, please stop rolling your eyes.

The chatter about this kicked off yesterday thanks to a tweet from YouTuber BeatEmUps, who shared a picture of Switch 2 box next to the classic Switch box, and declared that they reckon two are “far too similar and a bit confusing for the general public”.

Cue a bunch of people across Twitter and ResetEra pointing out that the Switch box’s got a fairly sizeable number two on it, while a bunch of folks who’ve worked in retail argue that probably won’t be enough to stop some people from buying the wrong one.

So, why am I writing about this? Well, for one, funny headline, and for two, I’ve made sure to do some important journalistic looking into this important issue. I reached out to members of my own family to ask whether they reckon, having seen the two boxes side by side, my grandparents or any other potential would-be Switch 2 purchasers who might not be immersed in gaming or its culture would be at risk of buying the wrong thing because of box similarities.

“Put it this way, I’d want to be with [them] when [they] bought it,” my sister responded, adding that she could see my grandparents in particular thinking they were getting a bargain on a Switch 2 by picking up an OG Switch. My dad, on the other hand, reckoned the placement of the number two was key, arguing that making sure to put it directly to the right of the words ‘Nintendo Switch’ rather than next to the Switch logo might help erase potential confusion.

Naturally, I wasn’t done journalisming there. I asked multiple members of the VG247 team for their views, with the general consensus being that it’d obviously be no problem for those in the know, but that non-gamers could well struggle. As for what Nintendo could or should potentially have done with the packaging to help minimise any confusion, there were no solid answers. The obvious would be not making both of them red boxes of a similar size, but that’s Ninty’s branding.

So, what do you do? Make sure whoever’s asking someone who might get confused to buy them a Switch 2 goes along to see that the right thing’s bought. You might have to sacrifice Santa Claus if it’s a holiday-season related purchase, but needs must.

In other Switch 2-related news, the console’s already reportedly made its way into the hands of some online folks, but they seemingly can’t actually play any games until it gets an update.

Elon Musk Asks Question That Stuns Crypto Community on X

by admin May 27, 2025

  • Musk questions reality of internet users
  • Is Elon Musk’s X account run by AI bot?

Elon Musk has once again given the crypto community on his X platform something to think about, sparking a hot discussion under his recent tweet.

Among those who responded to Musk, hitting him back with the same question, was prominent crypto trader Willy Woo.

Musk questions reality of internet users

The Tesla CEO and boss of D.O.G.E. has set the community talking with a simple but acute question. What he asked was: “How many real people are still on the Internet?”

Musk quoted Mario Nawfal, an interviewer with his own popular show on the X social media platform, who enjoys the attention of 2.2 million followers.

In his post, Nawfal cited a Singaporean newspaper, The Straits Times, saying that humans “officially lost the internet to AI-powered bots in 2024,” and the internet is dominated by AI bots these days.

Is Elon Musk’s X account run by AI bot?

“Over half of all web traffic is now bots, and many of them up to no good,” the tweet claims. Many of those bots “hit travel sites, steal concert tickets, and hijack social media posts just to mess with people and fuel drama.” The original post also claims that these AI bots are getting smarter every single day. Nawfal spelled the source as The Straight Times rather than The Straits Times, which could have been an automatic correction from an AI-powered spellchecker.

Willy Woo responded, saying that he is “a pixelated cartoon character.” In his turn, the crypto trader questioned whether the person behind Elon Musk’s account is real and not an AI bot: “How do I know you’re not a machine?”

— Willy Woo (@woonomic) May 27, 2025

Other commentators responded en masse that each of them was real.

Musk is known for supporting what is partly a joke and partly an unscientific theory that we live in what may well be virtual reality, or a “simulation,” as he calls it. Once asked by Lex Fridman, Musk said that at Tesla and SpaceX, they frequently run simulations to see what outcome can be reached because they do not know what is going to happen as a result of a process.

Therefore, Musk reckons, those who built the simulation that we might be living in do not possess any ultimate knowledge, and they are also modeling a process of life with consciousness to see what will happen eventually.
