BioWare’s future under EA in question, studio veteran warns, if it makes “the kind of games that this new company isn’t interested in making anymore”

by admin October 2, 2025

BioWare veteran Mark Darrah has discussed the $55bn private acquisition of EA and what the future holds for the RPG studio, suggesting it could be sold to pay off debt.

The buyout, announced earlier this week, is by a group of investors comprising Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and investment firms Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. Of the $55bn, $36bn is in equity with the remaining $20bn in JPMorgan debt, which EA will need to cover.

In his latest YouTube video, Darrah (best known as a producer across the Dragon Age games) suggested EA may be looking to sell off some of its biggest IPs and studios in order to service that debt.

Darrah explained EA is incentivised not to take risks, and selling off an IP only for it to become a huge success elsewhere would be a notable risk. Doing nothing “keeps them from getting into trouble”, but now that incentive could be completely flipped to drive immediate revenue.

“EA has a huge repository of dormant IPs that are just sitting there dormant,” said Darrah. “It seems unlikely that the new resulting structure is going to be eager to suddenly revive a bunch of those IPs.

“So one option might be to sell the whole lot of them for a hundred million dollars if you can get it, because a hundred million dollars can come off the debt. You might even see them toying with the idea of shedding some of their existing studios. Maybe they shut them down, but maybe they look for opportunities to sell off entire studios, or entire groups.”

He continued: “It makes a tonne of sense for this new group to want EA Sports whole and strong and to continue doing what it’s doing. EA Entertainment…may make a lot less sense. So you could imagine potentially all of EA Entertainment being sold off to another group with deep pockets.”

EA Goes Private For 55 Billion?!Watch on YouTube

He even suggested that, as this deal has likely been in the works for a while, it’s conceivable EA’s new structure was intentionally planned to make it easier to sell off parts of the business. As such, EA owns plenty of studios that haven’t shipped a game in a while, or have experienced problems, or make “the kind of games that this new company isn’t interested in making anymore”.

Darrah noted EA has “a lot of momentum” in not selling studios, but added “we’re in a new world now”. “It’s incredibly unlikely that EA stays exactly as it currently is in a private structure, especially carrying £20bn worth of debt,” he said.

So what does this all mean for BioWare specifically?

“For the studios that have more of a track record, especially a track record that maybe doesn’t line up with your own political views…you’re going to look at that studio and wonder how you make them fit into your new structure,” said Darrah.

“It’s hard to imagine that you have BioWare pivot from having very progressive messaging to having the reverse because it’s what the government wants. It’s hard to imagine that the public perception of a game that comes out of BioWare, even if you do do that, isn’t apocalyptically bad.” That would mean leaving the studio alone, or assuming it no longer fits in the organisation.

While Darrah is, of course, merely speculating, the deal certainly brings the future of all EA’s studios into question. Yet with the progressive nature of its RPGs, BioWare’s future under a Saudi-owned company is particularly uncertain.

In a statement to employees, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company’s “values and our commitment to players and fans around the world remain unchanged”.

Peacemaker Season 2 needs to answer a big ‘Earth X’ question about Superman

by admin September 26, 2025

It’s official: the alternate dimension in Peacemaker Season 2 is ‘Earth X’ (or a version of it), and now that’s been revealed, we need to talk about Superman. Spoilers to follow…

Until Episode 6, everything seemed so much better in the other world. Chris’ dad is nice and caring, his brother is still alive, Harcourt is in love with him, and Peacemaker didn’t murder Rick Flag Jr.

However, as many have predicted, its dark secret has been revealed: it’s Earth X, a parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II. That means there’s a swastika on the American flag instead of stars and there aren’t any people of color walking on the streets (it remains terrifyingly unclear where they are, if there are any at all).

So, everyone is a Nazi, and the Top Trio are beloved superheroes. Where does that leave other characters… like Superman?

Will Peacemaker Season 2 include Overman?

DC

Peacemaker has yet to reveal if there are any parallel versions of other DCU characters, like Lex Luthor or Rick Flag. However, now we know that it’s Earth X, the show could include a Superman cameo with a shocking twist.

In the comics, Earth X has its own version of Superman: Overman, also known as Kal-L. His origins are very similar: he comes from Krypton, his parents send him to Earth, but he lands in Sudetenland instead of Kansas, and he ends up becoming the most powerful ‘hero’ at the helm of the Fourth Reich.

“My rocket from Krypton arrived in a field in the occupied Sudetenland in 1938. German rocket scientists retro-engineered the technology Herr Hitler used to win the war, and I… I and my kind inherited a Utopia built on human suffering. Mine is not any world you know,” he says in the comics.

It’s been widely speculated that Corenswet will appear in Season 2, especially after John Cena posted a selfie with him from the set. Gunn has also teased “one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.”

To be clear, Corenswet’s normal Superman could still appear; if Chris returns to his own world, what better way to make him feel welcome than the world’s mightiest hero patting him on the back?

However, it’s hard to deny how effective (and scary) it’d be to see Corenswet as a Nazi version of the Man of Steel, even if it’s brief.

“It’ll be peak if we see David Corenswet as Overman in the finale,” one viewer wrote. “This is gonna sound crazy but hear me out, I need an Overman appearance in Peacemaker so f**king bad,” another commented.

MindsEye launch “what we didn’t hope for”, says IO Interactive CEO, as publishing future in question

by admin September 7, 2025

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has commented on the disastrous launch of Build A Rocket Boy’s action game MindsEye back in June, stating it wasn’t what the company hoped for.

IOI provided assistance distributing the game through its IOI Partners publishing arm. Now, at a recent event for the company’s forthcoming Bond game, Abrak spoke to IGN about MindsEye’s launch.

“The initial talks we had with those guys were to support them,” said Abrak. “We thought they had some great ideas and a great world in the background that they were building, and hopefully they’ll get the opportunity to show more of that in the future. And we just wanted to help them distribute the game.”

“Well, that was definitely tough, right?,” Abrak continued, speaking of the launch itself. “It was a tough reception. It wasn’t what they hoped for, and also what we didn’t hope for at IOI Partners. They’re working hard on turning that around to regain the trust of the gamers out there, and they have tons of potential and content they’re working on. So hopefully they’ll succeed with that in the future.”

Ahead of the game’s release, the co-CEO of Build A Rocket Boy suggested negative reaction to MindsEye had been paid for in a “concerted effort” against the studio. At the time, Abrak stated: “I don’t believe that.”

Two studio execs departed the studio just one week before it debuted and then, once released, it was clear MindsEye was full of technical issues. The studio promised performance updates, but later a Hitman crossover mission was delayed by IO Interactive.

So, has the Hitman and Bond studio been too burned by its work with Build A Rocket Boy to continue with similar publishing work?

“So, IO Interactive will publish our own games internally,” said Abrak. “IOI Partners? That remains to be seen.”

MindsEye received a one star review from Eurogamer. “Although it shows some early promise, MindsEye is sunk by a ridiculous story, inconsistent writing, poorly designed mission scenarios, and utterly atrocious combat,” it reads.

There’s ‘No Question In The World’ Bitcoin Will Be Worth $1M: Eric Trump

by admin August 21, 2025

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — U.S. President Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, is convinced bitcoin

will eventually be worth over $1 million.

Trump, who co-founded bitcoin mining company American Bitcoin earlier this year, reiterated his excitement for bitcoin during an appearance at the SALT conference in Jackson Hole on Wednesday.

He even called himself a “bitcoin maxi.”

The businessman and executive vice president of the Trump organization said he now spends over 50% of his time on crypto projects.

He said he believes that the crypto asset will be worth $175,000 a token by the end of the year, sticking with his earlier prediction.

Trump told several personal stories pointing out what he described as the flaws of the current financial system and how bitcoin and blockchain technology can solve those issues, including faster transactions and payment settlements.

American Bitcoin, which merged with Eric and his brother Donald Trump Jr-owned American Data Center in March, is expected to go public on Nasdaq via a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining (GRYP).

The brothers own 20% of the company while bitcoin miner Hut 8 holds the remaining 80%.

Trump’s comments came hours after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong made a similar prediction.

The Creator of ‘Severance’ Just Explained a Key Logistical Question

by admin August 20, 2025

When it comes to Severance, there are rarely simple answers. Everything is wrapped in mystery and intrigue. Which, admittedly, is kind of the best part about it. We love to explore and speculate about what’s going on at Lumon. And yet, getting an answer, even a small one, here and there is nice. Which is what the creator of the show, Dan Erickson, just did.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Erickson dodged questions about big topics like the structure of season three or the ultimate length of the series but did definitely answer a question about the logistics and mechanics of the boundaries of a severed person. Basically, he’s asked how Ms. Casey transformed into Gemma by leaving through the emergency door, but Mark and the rest of the Innies have to take an elevator up/down several floors to do the same. Where’s the line? What’s the boundary?

“So, yeah, this is actually also—this is a whole section (in the show bible) of how exactly that the severance threshold works,” Erickson said. “And basically the company can build it however they want. And the idea is that there sort of is just a section—if you were to dig through the wall of the severed floor, you would eventually reach a point where you’re beyond the threshold and you’re no longer within that space where your Innie is being activated. And so, they would have basically just designed it where that doorway is, where the cutoff point is.”

Which, logistically, is a little wonky, but we buy it. The emergency door was down a long hallway, so maybe that hallway goes beyond the boundaries of the elevator, just on a different axis. Either way, we love that he’s thought about this and had an answer. There are a few other answers at the interview, including confirmation that Erickson does, at times, read Reddit theories. Click here to check it out.

Severance season three has been in the works for several months now and, it seems, may start production soon. Fingers crossed maybe it hits Apple TV+ next year, or at the very latest, early the year after.
