Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Will Hit the Big Screen in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is starting to take shape at last with a key bit of casting news. Destin Daniel Cretton’s summer 2026 release—the fourth entry in the series centered around Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—has just added Jon Bernthal’s Punisher into the mix.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the news, and notes filming is set to begin this summer in England.

Bernthal’s character addition is some of the first news fans can grasp onto, as the rest of Brand New Day hasn’t shaken many plot details loose. We know Zendaya will be back as MJ, as will Jacob Batalan as Ned, but considering that mass memory wipe at the end of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home—Peter Parker’s sacrifice to preserve the fragile multiverse—it’s unclear how much they’ll factor into the story.

We also don’t know which villains might pop up, or how the Punisher will fit into all of this. THR suggests the character could signal No Way Home will take a more “grounded” approach, but there’s no telling what plans Marvel has for him or Spider-Man, for that matter. The title obviously suggests a clean slate and a new start, so anything could theoretically be possible.

SEC Warns Nigerians Against Investing in Punisher Coin $PUN

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians about investing in a cryptocurrency called Punisher Coin, also known as $PUN. 

The SEC revealed that the ongoing presale of $PUN has no regulatory approval and resembles a dangerous Ponzi scheme. In a statement released from Lagos, the SEC clarified that the promoters behind Punisher Coin are not registered or authorized to operate in Nigeria’s capital market. 

The Commission also expressed concern over misleading online promotions, including an article by Daily Trust E-Paper titled “Cryptos to Buy: Why Punisher Coin Could Join Avalanche and Chainlink.”

The investigation by the SEC concluded that Punisher Coin is a typical ‘meme coin’ that typically has no real value, technical support, or an obvious project goal. The value of such coins mostly comes from hype and social media buzz, making them easy prey for ‘pump and dump’ scams. 

Scams artificially inflate the price of a coin, then promoters sell their holdings at a profit, leaving regular investors with huge losses when the price crashes. Investing in Punisher Coin is risky and the public is advised to carefully check any digital asset and its promoters before investing money, the Commission warned.

To prevent Nigerian investors from being defrauded and losing their funds to financial loss, Nigerian investors should remain cautious and not fall for hype driven cryptocurrencies such as $PUN.

Frank Castle’s Back and Ready to Kill as the Punisher Once More

Earlier this year, we got Frank Castle back on our TVs, and now it’s time for the Punisher to make a return to comics, too.

Marvel’s gun-toting antihero is coming back to the page in Punisher: Red Band, a five-issue miniseries from Ben Percy (Wolverine) and Julius Ohta (Iron Man). The last time we saw Frank was back in 2023 when he took control of the Hand ninja cult, learned his wife was alive and wanted a divorce, and was later sent to Weirdworld. This new comic sees Frank back in New York without any memories of his past life, but still good at taking lives, so that’s what he’s gonna do. Much like his TV counterpart, this Frank is gonna get up to some bloody stuff, and his miniseries comes with a “Red Band” label to signify it’s got more explicit content than usual.

“Frank Castle is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Punisher is a series I’ve been gunning to write for a long, long time,” wrote Percy. “I’m going to lean in fully and push the very limits of my favorite genre: hairy psychopaths. This is going to be as gritty and bloody as it gets. Street-level mayhem awaits you.”

Marvel has often seemed uncertain about what to do with Frank. Some of that was owed to his Netflix series and the timing of a heavily armed vigilante in a show airing weeks or months after mass shootings; other times, it was because of how police had co-opted his symbol and used it to decorate their vehicles. Daredevil: Born Again confronted that latter point during its first season by having Frank kill a bunch of Punisher cops and telling them they suck.

We’ll see what comics Frank does when Punisher: Red Band begins September 10.
