Apple pulls ICEBlock from the App Store

by admin October 3, 2025

Antifa, as described in the national security presidential memorandum (NSPM), is both everything and nothing. It is in forums and social media and in-person meetings. It is in educational organizations and nonprofit institutions. It is protests (“riots”) not just in Portland, but in Los Angeles as well, whether against Trump’s immigration policies or, separately, “anti-police and ‘criminal justice’ riots.” It is the doxxing of masked and armed ICE agents. It is the “rhetoric” on the bullets alleged to be engraved by Charlie Kirk’s killer — referring, it seems, to an unused bullet casing with a video game button combo on it.

So antifa could be a kid in a black mask tossing a brick at a CCTV camera at an ICE facility. Antifa could be the grandma on the sidewalk holding a sign reading “DONALD TRUMP IS A FASCIST.” Antifa is ACAB. Antifa is Fuck ICE. Antifa is No Kings. Antifa might be a reading group, a teach-in, an Instagram solicitation for mutual aid. Antifa could be the ICEBlock app, and the App Store could be providing material support for terrorism.

Genshin Impact’s 5th anniversary log-in event is now live, giving fans a rare chance to claim some free pulls

by admin October 1, 2025

Today is a big day for Genshin Impact and its players. Not only does it see the start of the second phase of the massive Version Luna I update (previously Version 6.0), the game is also kicking off celebrations in honour of last Sunday’s fifth anniversary of its initial launch way back on September 28th, 2020 (where did the time go?).

Whether you’ve been away for a while, or you’re pretty much done with most of the content that arrived with Luna I, now is a great time to come back.

Genshin Impact’s anniversary events are quite a big deal because they’re among the rare occasions where players can directly get free gacha pulls — in particular Intertwined Fate, the currency used to pull on time-limited banners. HoYoverse gifts these pulls to players only twice in a typical year, and one of those is the annual anniversary celebration.

The 5th Anniversary Celebration event “Rainbow’s End: Silvery Flux” is a good excuse to log in, because you’ll be getting 1,600 Primogems in your in-game mail, alongside an event granting 10 Intertwined Fate pulls (alongside some character and artifact levelling materials, plus regular Mora currency) if you just log in for at least seven days over the next three weeks.

There are opportunities to earn even more rewards. If you complete the Archon Quest within the specified window, you can earn 620 Primogems, and a free Aino unlock. And, if you complete exploration missions – also within the specified duration – you’ll get 400 more Primogems.

The other big news for Phase 2 of this update is the arrival of Flins, who players are very much eager to play as, thanks to so many teasers. Flins is a 5-Star Polearm wielder who fires Lunar-Charged strikes. You can spec him so all of the damage is delivered in a single attack, or split it among smaller attacks. Flins will also make for a great companion if you go on exploring the new Nod-Krai region.

Catch up on all our coverage for Version Luna I (6.0) and its banners at the link, and definitely have a look at our Lauma builds. If you never made it to the new region, here’s how to actually get to Nod-Krai.

White House pulls Brian Quintenz CFTC chair nomination

by admin October 1, 2025

Brian Quintenz is no longer President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, ending weeks of speculation about the fate of his candidacy.

Summary

  • White House withdrew Brian Quintenz’s CFTC chair nomination on Sept. 30
  • Disputes with Gemini’s Tyler Winklevoss and ethics concerns stalled process
  • Trump administration now seeking new crypto-savvy CFTC candidate.

The White House confirmed the withdrawal on Sept. 30, noting that Trump will soon name a new nominee to chair the derivatives regulator.

Bloomberg first reported the move, citing a White House official who said the administration still plans to work with Quintenz in other roles. Quintenz, who serves as global policy head at a16z crypto, said he looks forward to returning to the private sector after what he called the honor of going through the confirmation process.

Nomination stalls amid disputes and delays

Quintenz, a pro-crypto figure nominated in February 2025, had been expected to bring industry expertise to the CFTC as it expands oversight of digital assets. His nomination progressed through hearings in June but stalled in July when the White House asked the Senate Agriculture Committee to pause a scheduled vote.

The delay followed lobbying by billionaire Tyler Winklevoss, a key Trump supporter, who raised concerns tied to Gemini’s ongoing CFTC enforcement case. In September, Quintenz publicly released private messages with Winklevoss, accusing the Gemini co-founder of lobbying against him.

The dispute added to existing questions raised by tribal groups, gaming lobbies, and ethics watchdogs about his role at prediction market Kalshi and pre-nomination briefings from CFTC staff. As the process dragged on, the administration began reviewing alternative candidates.

Next steps for the CFTC chair role

The decision leaves the CFTC with only acting chair Caroline Pham, following a series of commissioner resignations. The agency, which oversees trillions in swaps trading, is also expected to play a larger role in regulating crypto under legislation moving through Congress.

The Trump administration has made clear it wants the CFTC to be central to U.S. digital asset oversight. A White House official said the president remains committed to making America the global hub for crypto markets and is looking for a nominee aligned with that vision.

Potential candidates reportedly include former CFTC commissioner Jill Sommers, ex-CFTC official Josh Sterling, and SEC counsel Mike Selig.

Quintenz’s exit marks a turning point for the agency at a time when institutional and retail interest in crypto markets continues to grow. With a new nominee expected soon, the CFTC’s direction under Trump could shape the regulatory framework for digital assets well into the next decade.

Trump Pulls Brian Quintenz Nomination for CFTC

by admin October 1, 2025

Update (Oct. 1, 12:10 am UTC): This article has been updated to add a comment from Brian Quintenz and further information.

The Trump White House has withdrawn Brian Quintenz’s nomination to lead the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

“Being nominated to chair the CFTC and going through the confirmation process was the honor of my life,” Quintenz told Cointelegraph, confirming a Politico report on Tuesday

“I am grateful to the President for that opportunity and to the Senate Agriculture Committee for its consideration,” Quintenz added. “I look forward to returning to my private sector endeavors during this exciting time for innovation in our country.”

Quintenz, a former CFTC Commissioner and head of crypto policy at a16z, was widely backed by the crypto industry, but his nomination faced delays in Congress and reported pushback from crypto exchange Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.

The White House has yet to officially announce the move, and it’s unclear why Quintenz’s nomination was withdrawn.

Quintenz, Winklevoss public spat over nomination

Quintenz had previously claimed that the Winklevoss brothers had interfered with his nomination for the role, pressuring President Donald Trump to drop his pick.

Quintenz shared a series of private messages between himself and the Winklevosses on X last month, claiming Trump “might have been misled.”

“I believe these texts make it clear what they were after from me, and what I refused to promise,” Quintenz said. “It’s my understanding that after this exchange they contacted the President and asked that my confirmation be paused for reasons other than what is reflected in these texts.”

The CFTC has been without a full-fledged chair for almost a year now and is being led solely by Acting Chair Caroline Pham, who had said she would leave the agency upon Quintenz’s nomination.

Trump posts, then pulls bizarre AI video promoting MedBed conspiracy

by admin September 30, 2025

Donald Trump is no stranger to outlandish conspiracies or strange social media posts. But, by any measure, his post on Saturday night was particularly bizarre. The president posted (and later removed) a clip on Truth Social of a fake Fox News segment with Lara Trump detailing the White House’s announcement of the world’s first MedBed hospital and a national MedBed card system (two things that very much do not exist). Fox News told The Verge that the MedBed segment, “never aired on Fox News Channel or any other Fox News Media platforms.”

There was no additional context, no text to explain things. Confusing matters more, the video appears to be completely AI generated, including Trump himself discussing the program in the Oval Office. (Perhaps one of the biggest giveaways being the president’s ability to stay on script.)

MedBeds, for those that tend to avoid the more QANON-y corners of the internet, are an imaginary medical device that can do everything from treat asthma, to regrow missing limbs, to cure cancer. The fantasy of an all-in-one device that can cure all your ills has obvious appeal, but belief that these are real products being kept from the American public by Big Pharma has grown among conspiracy theorists in recent years.

Many of the presidents followers acknowledged that the video was AI-generated, but still seemed to believe that Trump was confirming the existence of MedBeds. Whatever the purpose of the post was, we may never know. The president frequently sends things out into the ether and never explains himself. And now that the video has been removed the White House will likely try to pretend the whole incident away.

Epic pulls controversial Peacemaker dance emote from Fortnite following big twist in the TV show’s latest episode

by admin September 29, 2025

Epic has pulled a Peacemaker dance emote from battle royale Fortnite, after the latest episode of the TV show proves just how controversial that dance is.

Spoiler warning for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6

The Peaceful Hips emote was added to Fortnite earlier this month, which features John Cena’s character hip-thrusting and holding his arms in rigid 90 degree angles.

Now, though, it’s been removed, with refunds likely to be issued in the next few days. “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote,” reads a social post from Fortnite. “Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”

Why so controversial? Well it turns out, as revealed in the latest episode, Peacemaker has been living in an alternate dimension where Nazis won World War 2 and the American flag’s stars have been swapped for swastika.

And looking at the dance emote in retrospect, yeah, it’s pretty obviously imitating swastika.

What’s most remarkable about this is that Warner Bros. agreed on the collaboration with Epic, but seemingly didn’t forewarn them of the emote’s true meaning. Perhaps they were worried about spoilers leaking ahead of the episode airing last week.

Peacemaker writer and director James Gunn posted earlier this month about Peacemaker’s inclusion in Fortnite, adding “check out his bundle, complete with Peacemaker’s best friend Eagly and a peace-spreading, hip-swaying emote or two ;)” – that winky face is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Nobody wants nazi symbolism in their kid-friendly battle royale, but it’s not just the TV show’s viewers who have been duped by a big twist.

Could this impact any future collaborations between Epic and Warner Bros.? Eurogamer has contacted Epic to find out.

Leaks have suggested Sonic and Shadow will be headed to Fortnite in some form soon, though hopefully will prove less controversial.

BTC Price Pulls Back, PENGU Open Interest Surges

by admin September 14, 2025

Bitcoin BTC$115,696.27 pulled back from overnight highs above $116,000 to under $115,000 as the Dollar Index (DXY) remains steady despite expectations of an imminent Fed rate cut.

Analysts remained optimistic saying they expect new lifetime highs in BTC and outsized gains in select few tokens, such as HYPE, SOL and ENA.

Focus has already shifted to smaller names. Tokens such as MYX, HASH, PENGU, PUMP and MNT have carved out price gains in excess of 10% this week.

“The CPI + jobs combo created a classic “good news/bad data” trade: inflation prints higher, but weaker labor data preserves the easing narrative, a net positive for crypto in the near term,” Timothy Misir, head of research, BRN said in an email.

Derivatives Positioning

  • Open interest in futures tied to the top 10 cryptocurrencies increased 3%-5% in the past 24 hours as strengthening expectations of Fed rate cuts prompt traders to take more risk.
  • Still, the market does not appear overheated, with annualized perpetual funding rates for major coins continuing to hover around 10%. Positive funding rates indicate a bullish bias among traders. Extremely high values typically signal market froth.
  • OI in PENGU, one of the best-performing tokens of the past seven days, hit a record high 7.78 billion coins, validating the price rise. Funding rates for the coin are slightly elevated at around 15%.
  • Smaller tokens, like SKY and PYTH, have deeply negative funding rates, a sign of bias towards bearish, short positions.
  • CME’s bitcoin futures are finally seeing an uptick in OI, ending a multiweek decline while ether OI has pulled back to a one-month low of 1.78 million ETH. These diverging trends could be a sign of renewed trader focus on BTC. Options OI in BTC and ETH remains elevated at multimonth highs.
  • On Deribit, BTC and ETH options continue to show a bias toward puts up to the December expiry, despite traders pricing roughly five U.S. interest-rate cuts by July next year.

Token Talk

By Oliver Knight

  • One of the founders of Thorchain, a decentralized network that allows users to send assets across blockchains, was hacked this week after being duped by a deepfake video call on Zoom.
  • “Ok so this attack finally manifested itself. Had an old metamask cleaned out,” JPThor wrote on X.
  • Peckshield noted that $1.2 million was stolen from a Thorchain user, with ZachXBT adding that the perpetrator is linked to North Korean hackers.
  • Thorchain emerged as one of North Korea’s most popular laundering tools earlier this year; researchers estimated that 80% of the proceeds from a $1.4 billion hack on Bybit had been siphoned through Thorchain and protocols like Vultisig.
  • The thorchain token (RUNE) is trading around $1.28, having lost 14% of its value in the past month and more than 90% since hitting its March 2024 high of $12.95.
  • The hack involved a mixture of social engineering and phishing, two techniques that contributed to the $2.5 billion stolen by hackers in the first half of 2025.
