Sony remembers PSVR2 exists, announces four new games coming soon

by admin June 24, 2025

Sony has announced four new games on the way to its PSVR2 headset, three of which are coming this year.

One of those is Dreams of Another, the next game from Q-Games – the studio behind the PixelJunk games. Dreams of Another is from multimedia artist Baiyon, the director of PixelJunk Eden.

The game sees players control “The Man in Pajamas”, but has the philosophy of “No Creation Without Destruction”. As such, shooting in this game creates the world around you from circular particles.

I was able to play the game (though not in VR) at the Game Developer Conference earlier this year, and found its use of “point cloud rendering” to be particularly mesmerising. I can only imagine how it’ll look in VR, in both third and first person. Dreams of Another is due for release later this year.

Before that, though, there’s Grit and Valor – 1949. A tactics rogue-lite, players take the role of a commander in an alternate timeline World War 2 to win battles by moving pieces chess-style on a tactical grid. It’s due out on 21st August.

Also coming later this year is Hotel Infinity, a follow-up to Manifold Garden from Studio Chyr. This surreal puzzle game has players exploring an abstract hotel to solve riddles. Manifold Garden received a rare Essential from Eurogamer, so expect good things from this one.

Last up is Meteora, a “cosmic survival racer” coming to PSVR2 next year. Players will navigate “explosive asteroid belts, electrically charged debris, and icy barriers” as a meteor racing across space. Energy Crystal can increase your mass and Stardust boosts your velocity, but should you focus on survivability or speed?

You can read more about all four games on the PlayStation Blog.

Sony has been criticised for not supporting its PSVR2 headset. In its latest State of Play showcase, only one VR game was included – Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow – though this will also be released on other VR platforms.

The Meta-owned Beat Games also recently ended support for Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5, what many consider to be VR’s killer app.

Earlier today, Microsoft announced it has collaborated with Meta on a limited edition Xbox-themed Quest 3S headset, as the company dips its toes into the world of VR.

After more than a decade, classic stealth series Thief is being revived for PSVR2

After more than a decade, classic stealth series Thief is being revived for PSVR2

by admin June 5, 2025

Beloved first-person stealth series Thief is being resurrected for a new instalment on PlayStation VR2. It’s called Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow and it’s out later this year.

Thief, the brainchild of System Shock developer Looking Glass Studios, first surfaced back in 1998. Its initial instalment, Thief: The Dark Project, was immediately heralded as something of a classic and three further entries followed. Unfortunately, 2014’s Eidos-Montréal-developed Thief reboot was poorly received and the series floundered.

Now, though, over a decade later, Thief is back in the form of Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. It’ll once again see players slinking through the streets of The City, but this time there’s a new protagonist doing the stealthy. Gone is the Garrett of earlier games, this time replaced by Magpie – a “cunning thief orphaned by Northcrest’s brutality and shaped by the streets, who steals as the only means to survive”.

After stumbling across a legendary artefact holding a mysterious secret, players embark on a journey across The City that’ll see them evading and outsmarting its controlling forces as they seek to expose a “sinister conspiracy”. All this, of course, takes the series’ classic shadow skulking and gives it a VR twist.

“Physically crouch, hide, and move between shadows, using every inch of the environment to stay undetected,” Sony explains on the PlayStation Blog. “Whether you’re sneaking through darkened alleys or scaling the rooftops of towering buildings, your every movement feels real. Extinguish light sources with your water arrows, hands, or even a well-aimed breath to deepen the darkness and expand your cover. The VR mechanics allow you to live out the fantasy of stealth in a way that no other medium can replicate.”

Thief VR is the work of Vertigo Games and Maze Theory, and is being developed in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal. It doesn’t have a release date yet, beyond a vague “2025” window, but more details are promised “in the coming months”.

Maestro to receive epic new DLC featuring Star Wars and is heading to PSVR2

by admin May 19, 2025

VR orchestral game Maestro is set to receive a new Star Wars themed DLC pack which adds “Star Wars: Episode 1 – ‘Duel of the Fates’ by John Williams” to the track list along with a new in-game lightsaber cosmetic, which is available to use as a baton. Additionally, it has been revealed that Maestro will launch on the PSVR2 on June 20th, alongside a Complete Collection Bundle which contains all previously released content packs.

As Yoda would say, “Control, control, you must learn control!” (or should it be Culture?) and that’s precisely what players need in the new DLC that was announced today for the VR orchestral game Maestro (Meta’s Game of the Year) on Meta, SteamVR & PICO.

The Star Wars content pack includes a brand new track from the iconic Star Wars: Episode 1 – ‘Duel of the Fates’ by John Williams, as well as a brand new in game cosmetic, a mini lightsaber ready to use as a baton, to transport you at lightspeed into the Star Wars universe, launching on June 20th for Quest, SteamVR, PICO AND PSVR2.

That’s right, today it was also confirmed that Maestro is heading to PSVR2 on June 20th and will launch with all content packs available as part of a Complete Collection Bundle, which will also be available on all platforms on the same day (June 20th) to celebrate.

To celebrate this major release, Maestro will also deliver a free update for all players on the same day:

A new “Fields of Fate” stage, a rain-soaked, apocalyptic arena where Heaven and Hell collide.

A new “Angels and Demons” orchestra split into two armies—angels and demons—reflecting the eternal struggle of Good versus Evil.

And the addition of Sergei Prokofiev’s powerful “Battle on the Ice” (from Alexander Nevsky) to the base tracklist—bringing another monumental clash of forces to the Maestro stage.
