PS5 prices increase from tomorrow in the U.S. as Sony “navigates a challenging economic environment”

by admin August 20, 2025

Sony is increasing the price of the PlayStation 5 in the U.S. as of tomorrow, August 21.

In a brief statement posted to the PlayStation Blog during Gamescom, the megacorp said that from tomorrow, the updated recommended retail price for all variations of the PS5 — base, digital edition, and PS5 Pro — will increase to:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Previously, the PS5 retailed for $499.99, the digital edition $449.99, and the PS5 Pro for $699.99.

“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”

Accessory prices remain unchanged, and Sony confirmed it had “no other price changes to announce for additional markets.”

We recently learned that Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 port has surpassed three million copies sold, making it the top new PS5 game of 2025 thus far.

PS5 gets a price hike in the US and none of the models are safe

by admin August 20, 2025

Sony has announced that it is raising the price of the PS5 in the US. The price increase of $50 affects all PS5 models and will come into effect from 21st August.

Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.

The updated recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Sony stated that its prices for PS54 accessories are unchanged, and that there are no price changes to announce for additional markets.

The PS5 has already seen price rises in other markets, with the UK getting its own hike back in April this year. Australia and New Zealand also got the news back then that they’d have to pay more to own a PS5.

Sony Raising Price On PS5 Consoles In America Tomorrow

by admin August 20, 2025

Sony has announced that it is raising prices on all versions of the PlayStation 5 in America. The increased prices go into effect on August 21, giving folks little time to plan ahead of the price hike.

All new PS5 consoles will now cost $50 more in the United States. Here are the new prices:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment,” said Sony in a very short blog post announcing the news. “As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”

This is a developing story…

by admin August 18, 2025

Cult hit Euro Truck Simulator 2 is seemingly coming to PS5 and Xbox consoles. The news comes via PSN and Xbox store listings for the game, which is yet to be officially announced for the two consoles.

No release date is on the store listings, but we can probably expect that news soon, presumably tied to an announcement over Gamescom this week. SCS SOFTWARE had a big hit with Euro Truck Simulator 2 on PC, which as of 2024 had sold in excess of 15 million copies.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 And American Truck Simulator Finally Coming To PS5 And Xbox

by admin August 18, 2025

Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been only available on PC and Mac since its release in 2013, while American Truck Simulator has been parked on the same platforms since 2016. Euro Truck Simulator 2 has remained popular on Steam in that time despite its age. Now, both games are heading to to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network has listed pages for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, while Xbox added the former and the latter shortly thereafter. Specific release dates have yet to be disclosed.

Just as the name suggests, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is set in several countries across Europe as players assume the role of a cargo truck driver. As part of the game, players have to manage the costs of each trip while saving money to expand their business, purchase a better truck and even hire additional AI drivers to put a trucking fleet together.

As the more recent game of the two, American Truck Simulator has a more refined presentation while giving players the option to deliver cargo across iconic locations in the country. The game also has enhanced customization features for players’ trucks and trailers, as well as different types of brakes that can be used in the game.

In 2023, SCS Software accepted ads from real trucking companies that placed recruitment billboards in American Truck Simulator. Perhaps some of those ads will carry over to the new console ports as well. SCS has also teased that more news may arrive at Gamescom later this week.

Cult favourite PC and PlayStation game, Shenmue 3, is being reworked for PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

by admin August 18, 2025

Shenmue 3 is coming back, with Yu Suzuki and publisher ININ Games announcing the Enhanced edition. The reworked and tweaked version of the 2020 game will be arriving on PS5 and PC as before, but also hitting Xbox and Nintendo consoles (TBC, but I think it’s probably safe to say that’ll be Switch 2 rather than the original Switch).

As well as improved visuals and image scaling support, there’ll be increased NPC density, a Classic Camera mode, tweaks to health and progression, expanded QTE windows, and more.

Key Enhancements:

  • Enhanced Graphics & Performance – Sharper textures, richer details, faster load times, and smoother gameplay.
  • 4K Texture Uplift – Refined, more detailed environments and characters.
  • DLSS/FSR Support – High-quality upscaling without sacrificing performance (supported platforms only).
  • Increased NPC Density – The city village Niaowu feels more alive with more characters populating the streets.
  • Classic Camera Mode – An optional camera perspective inspired by Shenmue I & II, alongside the modern view.
  • Gameplay Tweaks – Optional stamina system adjustments, health restoration before fights, and reduced money barriers for smoother progression.
  • Improved Interactions – Cutscene and conversation skip options, expanded QTE timing window for more accessible gameplay.
  • Menu & UX Enhancements – Streamlined navigation and helpful purchase alerts.
  • Optionality First – All major changes can be toggled to preserve the original experience for purists.

Step back into Ryo Hazuki’s world, which is now more vibrant, more responsive, and more accessible than ever, guided by Yu Suzuki’s vision.

ININ Games has said that owners of the original Shenmue III on PS4 and PC will be able to upgrade to the new Enhanced Edition, but more details on how that will work are coming at a later date. Expect the full reveal of Shenmue 3 Enhanced Edition at Gamescom this week.

Death Stranding 2's instantaneous loading times truly prove the power of the PS5

Death Stranding 2’s instantaneous loading times truly prove the power of the PS5

by admin June 26, 2025

Players are already impressed by the incredibly fast loading times in Death Stranding 2, which only proves the power of the PS5 console, as well as Guerrilla Games’ Decima game engine used by Kojima Productions.

Ahead of the game’s release tomorrow, players with advanced access are already sharing their thoughts.

One player posted a video to reddit, stating “Death Stranding 2 has the fastest loading time I’ve ever seen in a video game”. The video itself shows the game impressively loading from menu to gameplay in a split second.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach – PS5/PS5 Pro – Digital Foundry Tech Review – 4K HDRWatch on YouTube

When the PS5 launched, Sony touted the fast loading of the console’s SSD as a major selling point. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – though it released months after launch – was seen as a key example of this technology. What’s more, the Decima Engine was created by Horizon Zero Dawn studio Guerrilla Games and used for its games since PS4 release Killzone: Shadow Fall, yielding impressive results.

Yet Kojima Productions has clearly worked some magic with Death Stranding 2 – its load times really are astonishing. Take a look for yourself:

Digital Foundry gave its tech verdict on Death Stranding 2 earlier this week and was particularly impressed by the Decima Engine’s ability to create “truly outstanding dynamic landscapes”, as well as its lighting, weather, and other environmental effects.

“The first key improvement here stems from fine detail, with rock formations, vegetation and other natural elements holding up under closer scrutiny,” wrote John Linneman. “The game opens in a gorgeous mountain range with a level of detail reminiscent of Epic’s Nanite virtualised geometry demos, without relying on such tech.”

If you’re playing on PS5 Pro in particular, Linneman recommends opting for the 60fps performance mode as on Sony’s more powerful console, quality and performance modes are so similar in terms of image quality.

“Thankfully, both versions also feature lightning-fast loading times with virtually zero waiting,” said Linneman. “Moving from the load screen to a save game is nearly instant and you basically never actually encounter anything resembling a loading screen during the game – it’s seamless.”

There’s one particular sequence I was able to play when I previewed the game in May, which was breathtaking in its use of lighting and particles. But I won’t spoil it here.

In short, Death Stranding 2 is an exceptional technical achievement that truly shows the power of Sony’s PS5 consoles, as well as the Decima game engine.

“A busier, louder, and more emotionally resplendent take on this singular hiking sim,” reads our full Death Stranding 2 review.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 gets firm PS5 release date, and a 60fps mode at last

by admin June 26, 2025

The Enhanced edition of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 now has a release date across PS5 and existing platforms.

As revealed in May, the Hellblade sequel will arrive on PS5 this summer. That’s now confirmed to be 12th August.

This Enhanced version will be available as a free update on the same day across Xbox Series X/S and PC (Windows, Steam).

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced – Release Date TrailerWatch on YouTube

This version of the game will finally include a Performance Mode, optimised for 60 fps. On its original release, the game only ran at 30fps.

Other new features include: a return of the Dark Rot permadeath mode from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which sees the Dark Rot growing each time Senua fails; an expanded toolset for the Photo Mode; and behind the scenes developer commentary.

As previously reported, the PS5 version will include haptic feedback using Sony’s DualSense controllers.

This Enhanced version of Hellblade 2 will arrive in two editions. The Standard Edition, available at £49.99, includes the base game with these new Enhanced features.

The Deluxe Edition, priced at £69.99, will additionally include previous game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice optimised for PS5, as well as the soundtrack.

Those who bought Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on PS4 on its original release will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.

Further details can be found on Xbox Wire.

“Hellblade 2 continues Senua’s story with grace, confidence, surprising brutality and thundering conviction,” reads our Eurogamer Senua’s Saga review.

It was the most-nominated game at this year’s BAFTA Game Awards, and won the award for Technical Achievement.

Global Warming Has Made It Too Hot To Play My PS5 Or Switch 2

by admin June 23, 2025

Not long ago, I bought a VR headset in anticipation of the then-upcoming Resident Evil 4 port. (I have a problem, I know.) Since then, I’ve played a good amount of VR. Or rather, I was doing that until it got so damn hot out that now I’d rather do anything but put a hot, sweaty VR headset on my face or sit near a large PC or console pumping out warm air.

Disney+ Pulls The Abyss Over Controversial Rat Scene — Again

Update: 6/23/2025: This story was originally published on August 2, 2021. It was later updated in July 2022 to incorporate European heat waves and other news. It has been updated again to add information about heat waves in Alaska and NYC.

Past summers saw record temperatures across the United States, even in places that have historically avoided such outrageous heat. And these heat waves continue to hammer millions of folks, leading to fatalities. In 2022, Europe suffered through its worst heat wave in history, setting new and dangerous temperature records. The hot weather in 2022 was so bad that Google and other companies struggled to keep servers online as they were failing due to the intense heat. Meanwhile, Valve and Nintendo warned folks that the Steam Deck and Switch might not work properly in these extreme conditions. And now in 2025, parts of Alaska were put under a heat advisory warning for the first time in history. New York City is setting heat records, too, with some schools closing due to the deadly high temperatures. On June 23, NYC was put under an “Extreme Heat Warning,” the highest heat advisory level.

All of this is almost certainly a symptom of the ongoing effects of global warming, which is throwing our entire planet into weather-related chaos and destruction. To put it another way: Shit is bad.

I say all this to make it clear that the incredible heat we are seeing right now is serious and is hurting and killing people. Obviously, the fact that I or others can’t play video games comfortably is very far down on the list of problems caused by global warming. But it is still annoying, and talking to others who are experiencing this heat, it’s clear I’m not alone.

I live in Kansas, where we have luckily been able to avoid some of the higher temperatures seen in places like Seattle, NYC, and the UK. Even still, in this heat, I can’t play VR games comfortably, given how sweaty and uncomfortable the headset quickly becomes. When you factor in that many good VR games ask you to stand, move around and use motion controls, the prospect becomes even less appealing. It’s an easy way to overheat on hotter days like these. It’s a shame because I do like playing VR games like Beat Saber; I just can’t do it while temperatures hover around or over 100.

Photo: Oculus / Facebook

It’s not just VR that feels uncomfortable to play during these abnormally blistering times. More graphically impressive games on my PC cause extra heat to build up in my tiny home office. Consoles also spit out a shocking amount of hot air when you play games that push the hardware. The Xbox Series X, in particular, is very effective at expelling burning hot air at a rapid rate. This is very good for the console, of course. But it also means that I have a mini-jet engine cooking me alive. At least it’s quiet while I melt.

I spoke to some friends who are experiencing similar issues. Some of them are avoiding certain games on specific platforms right now because it’s too damn hot, and because running your AC all day is expensive and bad for the environment. I personally try to limit how often I run our apartment’s AC system, and if I can save some money and electricity by skipping some sessions of Marvel Rivals, that seems like a good trade-off.

And sure, as those folks on that once-popular show often said, “Winter is coming.” Well, first fall, then winter. The point is: Cooler and colder days are not too far away. But as these extreme shifts in weather and climate become more common and more extreme every year, I expect the summer months to become an even worse time to use electronics that produce tons of heat.

Of course, as things get worse, being able to play games comfortably will probably become one of my lower priorities behind things like finding water, staying cool, and fighting off roving bandits hunting down any resources they can find. Still, I’ll miss playing video games.

Tekken 8 player accidentally takes out a PS5 in tournament-winning pop off

by admin June 23, 2025

Tekken player Shin Paulo won Iron Grid 34, a monthly local in New Jersey that attracts the best players from the state. He got a little too excited, though, and he wound up falling right into the table holding up the PS5 he was playing on.

While big tournaments like Combo Breaker, CEO, and Evo attract thousands of attendees, the real heart of the FGC is often the small local scenes where players sharpen their skills and get ready to show up at big events.

Iron Grid is one such event. Though it’s a smaller tournament, it’s also stacked. People who have been playing against each other for years get a chance once a month to show what they’re made of.

Shin Paulo wound up winning the tournament… and then had to fork over some of his winnings to fix the PS5 he accidentally knocked over.

Tekken 8 tournament pop off goes wrong

Shin Paulo took a dominant Grand Finals match over his opponent, ending it with a 3-0 round advantage in a 3-1 set. He didn’t just win the final match, he dominated.

Unfortunately, he used everything he had to win the final. Out of breath after the victory, he tried to walk forward but tripped, taking out the entire table that had the PS5 on it.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the actual console was fine. The fall didn’t damage the system, only the side plates meant to protect it.

Shin Paulo paid for a replacement side panel no questions asked, feeling bad for taking out the console but still very happy he won.

“I honestly felt i was stagnating in Tekken 8. And I wanted to improve but I couldn’t see it. This is a stepping stone,” he said after the win, apologizing for the “PS5 casualty”.

Iron Grid 35 will be happening on July 26. Hopefully every console will make it out ok this time. Meanwhile, it may be a good idea to see if you’ve got locals in your area. It can be a great way to ease your way into going to a big tournament like Evo if you’ve never competed in-person.
