Binance Founder Meets Kazakhstan President, Highlights Crypto Moves

by admin October 3, 2025

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) met with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev this week, highlighting recent developments in the country’s digital asset policy.

In a post, CZ pointed to three areas: Binance’s local regulatory license, the rollout of the KZTx stablecoin, and the addition of BNB to Kazakhstan’s reserve holdings. These moves reflect broader steps the country has taken to formalize its digital asset framework, which will be examined in more detail below.

Binance license formalizes operations in Kazakhstan

Binance received regulatory approval to operate locally earlier, allowing it to provide crypto services under Kazakhstan’s digital asset framework.

The license followed the government’s idea to set up rules aimed at attracting global exchanges while maintaining oversight. Meanwhile, the country was a pioneer to launch Central Asia’s First Bitcoin ETF.

KZTx stablecoin launch links to payments and reserves

The KZTx stablecoin was launched as part of Kazakhstan’s broader initiative to integrate digital assets into its financial system.

Authorities had already taken steps in this direction by authorizing USD-backed stablecoins for paying certain regulatory fees, a measure aimed at testing the practical use of digital currencies in state processes

The Alem Crypto Fund, Kazakhstan’s state-backed vehicle for managing digital asset reserves, which recently announced the purchase of BNB for long-term holding.

CZ’s remarks after meeting President Tokayev highlighted steps already underway in Kazakhstan’s digital asset strategy: the licensing of Binance, the launch of the KZTx stablecoin, and the addition of BNB to state reserves.

These developments illustrate how the country is beginning to implement previously announced policies about the digital asset world, with further outcomes depending on how regulatory and market structures evolve.

YouTube rolls over and pays $24.5 million to settle Trump lawsuit after suspending his account in the wake of the Capitol riots, president calls himself a ‘shadowbanned patriot’

by admin October 1, 2025

YouTube has joined the ignominious list of tech companies rushing to settle lawsuits brought by US president Donald Trump. The Alphabet-owned platform has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed after it suspended Trump’s YouTube account following the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump has accused various tech companies including YouTube of political bias and censoring conservative voices, and both Twitter/X and Meta have already settled lawsuits relating to the suspension of his accounts. In January 2025 Meta agreed to a $25 million settlement, with $22 million of that going to Trump’s presidential library, and in February X settled for a reported $10 million.

At the time of the Capitol riots, these firms had said that Trump’s posts risked inflaming tensions and inciting further violence. All of Trump’s accounts on these platforms have been reinstated.

Needless to say, Trump took to social media to celebrate the win, posting an AI-generated image on X of what appears to be a distressed-looking Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, handing over a giant cheque for $24.5 million to the president, who is grinning and giving a thumbs up. The cheque reads: “Settlement for Wrongful Suspension.”

On Trump’s Truth Social platform the same picture comes with a wall of triumphant text, featuring the president’s typical fondness for caps lock:

“YouTube SURRENDERS! Pays President Trump $24.5 MILLION for illegal ban! This MASSIVE victory proves Big Tech censorship has consequences. Every shadowbanned patriot deserves justice! Trump fought for free speech and WON! Repost if ALL banned conservatives should be paid!”

All very normal. YouTube has been feeling the heat from the Trump administration more generally, and has not exactly covered itself in glory. It and other social media firms have agreed to take steps to loosen content moderation on their platforms, and last week YouTube said it intended to restore accounts that had been banned for posting misinformation about the 2020 presidential election and Covid, among other topics.

“YouTube values conservative voices on its platform and recognizes that these creators have extensive reach and play an important role in civic discourse,” says a YouTube statement sent to a Republican-controlled congressional committee.

Under the settlement YouTube does not admit any wrongdoing, nor agree to make any policy changes. The $24.5 million will see $22 million going to the Trust for the National Mall, a group aiming to raise $200 million for the construction of a new White House ballroom. The remaining $2.5 million will be paid to other plaintiffs in the case, including the American Conservative Union.

BREAKING: Ripple CTO Stepping Down, CEO and President Share Reactions

by admin September 30, 2025

  • Joining board of directors
  • “You are my boss now?”

David Schwartz has announced that he will step down as Ripple’s chief technology officer at the end of the year after more than 13 years at the company.

“The time has come for me to step back from my day-to-day duties as Ripple CTO at the end of this year. I’m really looking forward to spending more time with the kids and grandkids and going back to the hobbies I set aside,” he said.

Schwartz was appointed as the company’s CTO back in July 2018. Before him, this role was held by Coil CEO Stefan Thomas and Ripple/Stellar co-founder Jed McCaleb.

In his statement, Schwartz stressed his appreciation for the company and the community, describing his time at Ripple as “one of the greatest honors and experiences of his life.”

As happens in one’s life, I’ve been taking stock of my last 40 years. It’s been a wild ride. I’ve gone from consulting for the NSA to watching the early stages of Bitcoin. Then, I met Arthur, Jed, and Chris and worked on coding the XRP Ledger. Now, I’ve spent more than 13 years…

— David ‘JoelKatz’ Schwartz (@JoelKatz) September 30, 2025

He has also expressed his gratitude to Ripple’s leadership (CEO Brad Garlinghouse and President Monica Long), co-founders Chris Larsen and Arthur Britto, as well as the RippleX team.

Joining board of directors

Schwartz has confirmed that he is not breaking ties with Ripple. In fact, he will be joining the company’s board of directors. He will also remain involved as CTO Emeritus.

“I look forward to seeing the rest of you at XRP community events around the world,” he said in a statement.

“You are my boss now?”

Ripple’s leadership has already reacted to Schwartz’s upcoming exit. Garlinghouse has described Schwartz as “the smartest (and maybe the funniest) person” he personally knows. “A true OG in crypto with the conviction and vision to see what others couldn’t – you are a legend,” he added.

He has also jokingly suggested that Schwartz will be his boss after joining the company’s board of directors.

The smartest (and maybe the funniest) person I know. A true OG in crypto with the conviction and vision to see what others couldn’t – you are a legend. Thank you David for everything you’ve done for the industry, for Ripple and for the XRP Ledger. We are all forever grateful…… https://t.co/tt4uX4JlkV

— Brad Garlinghouse (@bgarlinghouse) September 30, 2025

Long has acknowledged that the “mighty community” would not have existed without Schwartz. “I deeply respect your ingenuity, integrity, humor, and humility, which you demonstrate daily…” Long said.

Alphabet will pay $22 million to settle President Trump’s YouTube lawsuit

by admin September 30, 2025

Alphabet will pay President Donald Trump $22 million as part of a settlement in a class action lawsuit brought against the company over the suspension of various YouTube accounts following the January 6 riot at the US capital, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The suit includes other plaintiffs whose YouTube channels were banned that will split an additional $2.5 million in settlement payouts.

Trump filed the suit in 2021, alongside lawsuits against Twitter and Facebook over similar suspensions, claiming they infringed on his first amendment rights. Twitter, now known as X since its acquisition and rebrand by Elon Musk, paid President Trump roughly $10 million to settle that suit. Meta also settled its suit with the president over his suspension from the platform for $25 million earlier this year.

This settlement comes shortly after Alphabet wrote a letter to the House Judiciary Committee lambasting government pressure to moderate content on its platforms. The company also shared that YouTube would be offering a path to reinstatement for accounts previously banned for COVID-19 or election integrity related misinformation.

The settlement from Alphabet will be paid to the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, and will be earmarked for construction of the ballroom that President Trump is building at The White House. The monies from the Meta settlement were similarly earmarked.

This summer Paramount, parent company of CBS, settled a lawsuit brought by the president over claims that the network intended to “confuse, deceive and mislead the public” by editing an interview with Kamala Harris. The media company paid $16 million to settle the president’s suit. Three weeks later the FCC approved the $8 billion acquisition of Paramount by Skydance.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says “we’ll see” about running for President

by admin September 28, 2025

The Rock has yet again addressed fans who want him to run for president of the United States, saying he’s honored and we’ll just have to see what happens.

The wrestling legend turned actor has long been floated as a potential political candidate, with polls in recent years showing nearly half of Americans would support a “Rock for President” campaign. Multiple parties have even reportedly approached Johnson about running, though he’s consistently stopped short of making a commitment.

Article continues after ad

Johnson has addressed the idea multiple times since 2016, calling it “an honor” that people ask but citing his career and family as reasons to stay out of politics. While he endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, Johnson later said he wouldn’t make public endorsements going forward, noting the division his previous stance created.

The Rock can’t escape presidential election questions

Appearing on Variety’s Award Circuit podcast to promote his upcoming A24 drama Smashing Machine, Johnson was again asked if a presidential run could be in his future. He acknowledged how persistent the conversation has become.

“It’s wild, man,” Johnson said. “I’m always honored that people ask that. I love what I do. I love storytelling. But yeah… we’ll see.”

While the Hollywood star once again stopped short of confirming any political ambitions, his response is unlikely to silence speculation. As long as polls show support and the “Rock for President” idea continues to trend, questions about whether Johnson will step into the political arena don’t appear to be going away.

Bowser retires from Nintendo, succeeded by first female president

by admin September 27, 2025

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser is set to retire at the end of the year, and will be succeeded by the company’s first female president.

Bowser followed Reggie Fils-Aimé as president in 2019, and has spent over a decade in multiple leadership positions. His time as president has covered the majority of the Switch’s life, and the recent launch of Switch 2, and will end on 31st December 2025.

Devon Pritchard will take over as president, following 19 years in the industry. She is already a long-standing member of the NOA leadership team, currently serving as executive vice president of revenue.

In addition to this change, Satoru Shibata will join NOA as chief executive officer. Shibata was previously president of Nintendo of Europe from 2000 – 2018, and was most recently general manager of the marketing division at NOA. He’s also outside director of The Pokémon Company.

“One of my earliest video game experiences was playing the arcade version of Donkey Kong,” said Bowser. “Since that time, all things Nintendo have continued to be a passion for both me and my family. Leading Nintendo of America has been the honour of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers.

“Now, it’s time for the next generation of leadership and Devon’s track record speaks for itself,” he continued. “She is an exceptional leader, and her promotion is a testament to her strong performance and strategic contributions to the company’s growth. I have full confidence that she will guide the company to even greater heights.”

Pritchard said she is “humbled and excited to take on this new role”. “Doug has been a fantastic mentor,” she continued, “and I look forward to building on the incredible foundation he has helped establish. With characters and worlds that offer something for everyone, my focus will be continuing to build on Nintendo’s legacy of surprising and delighting our longtime fans, while at the same time welcoming new players into the Nintendo family.”

Nintendo’s Japanese president Shuntaro Furukawa added: “During his tenure, Doug made numerous contributions to bring smiles to the faces of people connected to Nintendo. I would like to express my gratitude for his strong efforts. Devon, who will become the next president, has also made many contributions to Nintendo over the years. I am confident that, like Doug, Devon will continue to support Nintendo’s important mission of creating smiles.”

Brazil’s president has signed a ban on selling loot boxes to minors as part of a larger online child safety law

by admin September 26, 2025

In March, videogames will no longer be able to sell lootboxes to users under the age of 18 in Brazil due to a ban signed earlier this month by Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Part of a broader law passed by Brazil’s congress to enact online safety measures for children, the ban continues an ongoing international effort to regulate exploitative monetization practices (via Eurogamer).

The law, Lei 15.211/2025, aims to defend “the best interests of children and adolescents,” which it defines—according to machine translation—as “the protection of their privacy, safety, mental and physical health, access to information, freedom to participate in society, meaningful access to digital technologies, and well-being.”

Chapter 7 of the law says that “loot boxes offered in electronic games aimed at children and adolescents or likely to be accessible by them are prohibited, in accordance with the respective age rating.”

Related articles

Additionally, the law mandates that games featuring “interaction between users through text, audio or video messages” must comply with guidelines established by a separate law passed in 2024, which requires companies to moderate “abuse and irregularities committed by users” and provide transparency for how their moderation systems are used, maintained, and updated.

Brazil isn’t the first country to attempt to regulate loot boxes, and likely won’t be the last. Belgium banned loot boxes—with varying degrees of success—in 2018, while US lawmakers, Dutch political coalitions, and members of Australian parliament have proposed their own bans on loot boxes as a form of digitized gambling.

For those protections to have any effect in Brazil, however, they’ll necessitate the usage of age-verification mechanisms. Previously, Brazilian law had considered it sufficient for users of digital services to self-declare their age. The new law, however, requires the providers of those services to “take proportionate, auditable and technically secure measures to assess the age or age range of users.”

While the law states “data collected to verify the age of children and adolescents may be used solely for this purpose, and its processing for any other purpose is prohibited,” similar age verification measures have been the source of privacy concerns as online safety legislation has advanced in the UK, Australia, some US states, and elsewhere.

The campaign against predatory in-game practices takes a step forward in Brazil, as President Lula bans loot boxes targeted at under-18s

The campaign against predatory in-game practices takes a step forward in Brazil, as President Lula bans loot boxes targeted at under-18s

by admin September 26, 2025

The president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula) has signed a ban on loot boxes for under 18s into law. This ban is set to go into effect in March 2026.

This ban comes as part of a wider digital protection law aimed at protecting young people from abuse and exploitation online. Chapter seven of the law focused on electronic games prohibits loot boxes aimed at children or adolescents for games without an 18+ age rating.

In addition, the law requires games that are likely to have adolescents interact with other people through text, audio, or video messages to adhere to legal safeguards. These include a report system, information on the progress of said reports, and instruments to request review and reconsideration of imposed penalties.

Debates surrounding a loot box ban have been widespread and global for years now. Back in 2022 Dutch political parties backed a loot box ban, however after some deliberation there was no outright ban. Loot boxes were declared illegal in Belgium back in 2018, though in the following years it’s become clear this hasn’t been strictly enforced. The UK has slapped some game companies on the wrist due to not declaring loot boxes in advertisements, but a ban has been far from reach.

As such, this Brazilian ban for under 18s is a big step forward for those against loot boxes, putting up barriers between what many consider gambling mechanics and younger people. It’s been a long time coming, with investigations into loot boxes starting in 2021. There remain two larger questions: will clear age ratings for games actually prevent young people from buying loot boxes in games they want, and will this law’s implementation in a strong market for video games influence change in the industry at large?

Doug Bowser to retire, Devon Pritchard to succeed as Nintendo of America president

by admin September 26, 2025

Nintendo has announced the retirement of current Nintendo of America president and COO Doug Bowser. He will be succeeded by VP of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience Devon Pritchard.

Satoru Shibata will take on the role of CEO, while continuing his positions as managing executive officer and corporate director. He joined the firm in 1985, and was previously president of Nintendo of Europe.

The leadership transition will occur on December 31, 2025.

Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 as vice president of sales and marketing, becoming senior vice president a year later. In 2019, he took on the role of president and COO following the retirement of Reggie Fils-Aimé.

“Leading Nintendo of America has been the honour of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers,” said Bowser.

“Now it’s time for the next generation of leadership and Devon’s track record speaks for itself. She is an exceptional leader, and her promotion is a testament to her strong performance and strategic contributions to the company’s growth. I have full confidence that she will guide the company to even greater heights.”

Pritchard, who will become Nintendo’s first female president, joined the company in 2006 and was previously executive vice president of business affairs and publisher relations.

As well as her role as president, Pritchard will join the Nintendo of America board of directors and become an executive officer at the Japanese firm.

“I am humbled and excited to take on this new role,” said Pritchard. “Doug has been a fantastic mentor, and I look forward to building on the incredible foundation he has helped establish.”

“My focus will be continuing to build on Nintendo’s legacy of surprising and delighting longtime fans, while at the same time welcoming new players to the Nintendo family.”

Doug Bowser Retiring From Nintendo Of America, Devon Pritchard Named President And COO

by admin September 25, 2025

Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Doug Bowser has announced his retirement from the role, effective at the end of the calendar year. Devon Pritchard, who joined Nintendo in 2006 and has served as the leader of the Sales, Marketing, and Communications division since 2021, has been named as Bowser’s successor.

Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 as vice president of sales and marketing, before receiving a promotion to senior vice president of sales and marketing in 2016. In 2019, then-president and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé announced his retirement, and Bowser was named his successor. Although Fils-Aimé ushered Nintendo of America from its disappointing Wii U era into the prosperous Switch era, Bowser oversaw the tail end of the Switch era, which also saw rapid expansion into the film and theme park industries, as well as the start of the Switch 2 era.

“Leading Nintendo of America has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers,” Bowser said in a press release. “Now, it’s time for the next generation of leadership and Devon’s track record speaks for itself. She is an exceptional leader, and her promotion is a testament to her strong performance and strategic contributions to the company’s growth. I have full confidence that she will guide the company to even greater heights.”

Pritchard, as executive vice president of revenue for marketing and consumer experience, is currently responsible for managing physical and digital sales growth, and oversees all aspects of marketing, advertising, events, social media, and original content. According to the press release, Pritchard plans to build on the ways fans can connect with Nintendo’s characters and worlds.

“I am humbled and excited to take on this new role,” Pritchard said in that same press release. “Doug has been a fantastic mentor, and I look forward to building on the incredible foundation he has helped establish. With characters and worlds that offer something for everyone, my focus will be continuing to build on Nintendo’s legacy of surprising and delighting our longtime fans, while at the same time welcoming new players into the Nintendo family.”

In addition to Bowser’s impending departure and Pritchard’s upcoming promotion, Satoru Shibata will join Nintendo of America as chief executive officer in addition to his roles as managing executive officer, corporate director, and member of the board at Nintendo (NCL). Pritchard will also join the Nintendo of America board of directors and become an executive officer at NCL.

“During his tenure, Doug made numerous contributions to bring smiles to the faces of people connected to Nintendo,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in the press release. “I would like to express my gratitude for his strong efforts. Devon, who will become the next president, has also made many contributions to Nintendo over the years. I am confident that, like Doug, Devon will continue to support Nintendo’s important mission of creating smiles.”

Bowser’s retirement is effective on December 31, 2025.
