All Eyes on the Fed, All Ears on Powell: Crypto Daybook Americas

by admin September 17, 2025

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless indicated otherwise)

Global markets are treading water as investors wait on the Federal Reserve’s latest policy move, coming later today. It’s almost a given the Fed will cut interest rates by 25 basis points. Traders will instead focus on Chair Jerome Powell for signs on future policy.

The cryptocurrency market is no different. Over the last 24 hours, the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) index is practically unchanged, up just 0.2%, while bitcoin (BTC) is around 1% higher. Gold, which surged to a record $3,700 this week, slipped 0.5%. The U.S. dollar index added less than 0.2%.

Equities markets have barely moved as well. U.S. stocks slipped in yesterday’s session, while European equities are edging higher. The FTSE All-World Index advanced less than 0.1% today.

That's today. But over a longer period, cryptocurrencies have lagged behind equities.

In the last 30 days, the FTSE All-World Index rose 2.78%, while the CoinDesk 20 added 2.6% and BTC gained 1.6%. The moves suggest caution even ahead of rate cut that would boost the appeal of risk assets.

Investors are currently pricing in six interest rate cuts. Three this year, and three next year.

“Market expectations are positioned in a Goldilocks range: six cuts represent a middle ground between caution and aggression,” analysts at QCP Capital wrote in a note.

“A deviation in the dot plot, however, would challenge that balance, forcing investors to recalibrate around the risk of tighter-than-expected conditions or a Fed struggling to respond effectively to weaker growth,” the analysts added.

Markets' real test will be Powell’s press conference. A balanced message is likely to further support risk assets, while hesitation would force investors to reassess.

Despite the uncertainty, demand for spot crypto ETFs has remained robust. This week, net inflows for spot BTC ETFs are around $550 million, while spot ether ETFs brought in nearly $300 million. Stay alert!

Token Talk

By Oliver Knight

  • Bitcoin (BTC) continues to stubbornly trade in a tight range, rising slightly to $116,000 in the past 24 hours, but failing to build momentum for a break out.
  • Altcoins are capitalizing on the lack of volatility with several spikes leading to bitcoin dominance sliding to an eight-month low of 57%, according to CoinMarketCap data.
  • Dominance is a metric commonly used to assess whether capital is flowing into bitcoin or more speculative altcoins, as seems to be the case.
  • Another bullish factor for altcoins is that the average crypto token RSI, an abbreviation for relative strength index, is at 45.47. This means that altcoins are edging into “oversold” territory as opposed to “overbought,” suggesting that several tokens are primed for an extension to the upside.
  • It's worth noting that bitcoin dominance fell all the way to 33% in 2017 and 40% in 2021, meaning that altcoins still have more room to run.
  • Much will depend on how bitcoin acts if it begins to test record highs at $124,000. A breakout on significant volume will likely lead to a capital rotation back to the largest cryptocurrency as investors attempt to capitalize on a potential cycle high, with the personalities such as Eric Trump calling for $175,000 before year-end.

Derivatives Positioning

  • BTC futures open interest across major venues has crept up to $32 billion over the past week.
  • At the same time, the three-month annualized basis has started compressing again to roughly 6-7% across Binance, OKX and Deribit, leaving the carry trade only marginally profitable.
  • While the OI growth suggests increasing activity and engagement in the market, the narrowing basis indicates that directional conviction, particularly on the bullish side, is weakening, with traders less willing to pay a high premium for future exposure.
  • The options data also presents a complex picture of market sentiment.
  • While the BTC Implied Volatility Term Structure chart shows an upward-sloping curve, suggesting the market expects long-term volatility to be higher than short-term, other metrics point to a more immediate bearish outlook.
  • Specifically, the 25 delta skew chart indicates that the skew is either flat or slightly negative for shorter-term options (1-week, 1-month), which means traders are paying a premium for puts over calls to gain protection against declines.
  • This short-term bearish sentiment is directly contradicted by the 24-hour put-call volume chart, which shows a higher volume of calls than puts, indicating that over the past 24 hours most options traders were positioning for a price increase.
  • Funding rate APRs across major perpetual swap venues have recently started to show some pickup with BTC annualized funding currently at 17%.
  • If the uptrend is maintained and followed by other venues, funding rates would suggest growing conviction in a directional, more bullish bet on prices.

Bitcoin And Crypto In Turmoil As Tensions Between Trump and Powell Escalate

by admin August 27, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market is facing heightened volatility as U.S. President Donald Trump escalates his battle with the Federal Reserve.

Trump’s unprecedented move to ‘fire’ Fed Governor Lisa Cook, paired with growing friction with Fed Chair Jerome Powell, has rattled investor confidence and triggered a broad sell-off in risk assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Trump – Powell Fallout

Markets had initially welcomed Powell’s dovish hints at the Jackson Hole symposium, where he suggested the Fed may be closer to easing its restrictive monetary policy.

However, optimism quickly faded as Trump pressed for more aggressive rate cuts and attempted to remove a sitting Fed governor, an act widely seen as undermining central bank independence.

The fallout was immediate. Bitcoin (BTC), which had surged past $117,000 after Powell’s remarks, dropped below the key $111,000 level and is now trading more than 12% off its mid-August all-time high.

Ethereum (ETH) slid over 5% overnight, with other leading cryptocurrencies like Solana (SOL), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE) also posting steep losses.

Bitcoin Reacts to Uncertainty

The total crypto market capitalization has fallen 2.48% to $3.79 trillion, while trading volume spiked 67% to $220 billion, signaling frantic repositioning by traders. Nearly $900 million in leveraged positions were liquidated in the past 24 hours, amplifying the downturn.

Bitcoin’s dominance has slipped to 57.5%, with Ethereum’s share rising slightly to 14.4% as ETF flows diverged. U.S. Bitcoin Spot ETFs saw $23 million in net outflows on Friday, led by iShares Bitcoin Trust, while Ethereum Spot ETFs recorded $338 million in inflows, highlighting shifting investor sentiment.

Altcoins were not spared. BNB, Cardano, and TRON all posted overnight declines of 3–4%, while meme favorite Dogecoin slumped nearly 5%. A few tokens bucked the trend, HyperLiquid (HYPE) gained 2.6%, and VeChain (VET) climbed 3.6%, but most of the top 100 coins bled heavily.

What’s Next for Bitcoin and the Fed?

Analysts warn that political interference at the Fed could further destabilize markets. Prediction markets currently give just a 9% chance of Powell being ousted in 2025, but Trump’s actions have raised legal and institutional concerns.

If Trump succeeds in reshaping the Fed to favor easier policy, risk assets like Bitcoin could benefit longer term from looser liquidity. For now, traders are focused on key technical levels. Bitcoin must reclaim the $111K–$112K zone to avoid a deeper slide toward $100K.

Higher on Powell Jackson Hole Remarks

by admin August 24, 2025

Perhaps surprising markets which had expected a hawkish tone, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell firmly put a September rate cut on the table on Friday.

Speaking at the Kansas City Fed’s Economic Symposium in Jackson Hole, Powell said the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting policy.

“Downside risks to employment are rising,” said Powell. “If those risks materialize, they can do so quickly in the form of sharply higher layoffs and rising unemployment.”

Bitcoin has gained about 2% since the remarks hit the wires, rising to $114,200. U.S. stocks have added more than 1% and the 10-year Treasury yield is lower by six basis points to 4.27%. The dollar index has dipped about 0.5% and gold is higher by 0.6%.

Rough week ahead of Powell

In anticipation that Powell would remain hawkish, risk markets — crypto among them — had been under sizable pressure in the days leading up to his address.

Touching a record high above $124,000 about one week ago alongside September rate cut expectations that had risen to nearly 100%, bitcoin BTC$114,886.93 has slumped nearly 10% to $112,000 since as those monetary easing hopes quickly dwindled to just 69% in the hours ahead of Powell’s speech. In the minutes following, those odds have re-risen to nearly 90%, per CME FedWatch.

The correction in the perhaps more speculative ether (ETH) was even deeper, with that crypto tumbling roughly 12% over the same time frame after coming within a few dollars of its all-time high. It’s bounced nearly 8% since the Powell speech.

In traditional markets, the Nasdaq dipped 3% over the past few days as it too priced in lessening chances of a rate cut.

XRP Zooms 3% as Bitcoin Spikes on Powell Comments

by admin August 24, 2025

XRP Spiked 3% as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell firmly put a September rate cut on the table on Friday, causing bitcoin (BTC) and major tokens to move higher.
470 million token selloff drove volume spikes and heavy resistance at $2.92, while ETF delays and weak security rankings compound bearish pressure.

News Background

• Institutional liquidations dominated trading as 470 million XRP were offloaded across major exchanges during the Aug. 21–22 window, triggering a sharp selloff.
• On-chain settlement volumes surged 500% to 844 million tokens on Aug. 18, one of the largest spikes this year, signaling adoption growth despite market weakness.
• The SEC postponed rulings on XRP ETF applications, including Nasdaq’s CoinShares filing, now expected in October. The delay adds to regulatory uncertainty.
• A security assessment placed XRPL at the lowest ranking among 15 blockchains, raising concerns about network robustness and adding to bearish sentiment.

Price Action Summary

• XRP declined 3.1% in the 24-hour session from Aug. 21 13:00 to Aug. 22 12:00, falling from $2.89 to $2.80.
• The token ranged $0.12, a 4.25% volatility band, between a $2.92 peak and $2.80 trough.
• The sharpest move occurred at 19:00 on Aug. 21, when XRP was rejected at $2.92 on 69.1M volume, confirming major resistance.
• Final hour trading (Aug. 22 11:24–12:23) saw XRP drop 2.5% from $2.82 to $2.80 on surging volume of 7.2M, confirming bearish continuation.
• Support emerged near $2.80–$2.85, but accumulation interest weakened with each retest.

Technical Indicators

• Resistance hardened at $2.92 on 69.1M volume rejection.
• Support identified at $2.80–$2.85 zone, though weakening on repeated tests.
• Volume spiked to 96M at 11:00 Aug. 22, confirming bearish follow-through.
• Trading range of $0.12 (4.25%) highlights volatility concentration.
• Final hour selloff of 2.5% with 7.2M volume validated bearish continuation.

What Traders Are Watching

• Whether $2.80 can hold as support; a break risks acceleration toward $2.75.
• ETF-related headlines, with October decisions key to broader institutional flows.
• Whale accumulation patterns — on-chain adoption growing, but price failing to reflect fundamentals.
• $2.92–$3.00 resistance zone as breakout trigger for bullish reversal.

Best Crypto to Buy Now as FED Chair Jerome Powell Hints at September Rate Cut

by admin August 24, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

FED Chair Jerome Powell spoke at Jackson Hole on August 22, addressing rate cuts, inflation, and the labor market.

Powell’s Friday appearance turned out to be a bonanza for intraday stock traders and crypto investors, as both the NASDAQ and major cryptos surged after he hinted at a possible September rate cut.

Powell noted that the balance of risks is shifting in the U.S. economy. While inflation remains a concern for the Fed, the latest labor market data is now a bigger worry.

Job growth, for instance, has slowed dramatically: from 168,000 new jobs in 2024 to just 35,000 in the latest figures. At the same time, unemployment has held steady at 4.2%.

This slowdown is partly due to reduced demand and supply in the job market, temporarily influenced by weaker immigration flows.

Powell warned that the labor market remains in a delicate position, and a wave of layoffs could make conditions worse.

Read on as we unpack Powell’s September rate cut hint, what’s driving it, and how you can ride the brewing risk-on sentiment among investors by loading up on the best cryptos to buy now.

Powell’s Rate Cut Hint Could Spark the Next Crypto Rally

Inflation is still around 2.6% to 2.9% above the Fed’s 2% target, largely due to Trump’s tariffs, which are expected to gradually push prices higher.

However, the Federal Reserve views this as a one-time bump rather than the start of an inflation spiral.

Speaking on interest rates, Powell noted that current levels are now closer to neutral – a zone that neither slows nor boosts the economy – and described the Fed’s stance as a little restrictive.

He added that while there’s room for a rate cut, the Fed intends to move carefully based on incoming data.

Here’s the kicker now: although Powell didn’t commit to a September cut, he admitted it’s certainly a possibility.

Wall Street celebrated the remarks, with the NASDAQ surging 1.39% in just 15 minutes. Crypto markets also rallied, as Bitcoin climbed 4%, once again crossing the $115K mark.

Traditionally, rate cuts are bullish for risk-on assets like crypto. Why? Because cheaper borrowing often pushes investors toward alternative ‘high-risk, high-reward’ investments like cryptocurrencies.

That’s why the prospect of a September rate cut is being viewed as a potential major catalyst for another broad-based altcoin rally.

If you’re looking to cash in on this opportunity, now may be the best time to scoop up promising low-cap, high-upside.

To help you out, here are our top picks for the next cryptos to explode.

1. Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER) – Next-Gen Bitcoin L2 Bringing Fast Transactions & Web3 Compatibility

Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER) is the world’s first Bitcoin Layer 2 solution that brings Solana-like speed and scalability to the Bitcoin blockchain.

Despite being the biggest cryptocurrency in the industry, Bitcoin has long struggled with slow transactions, increasing traffic, and zero Web3 compatibility.

$HYPER aims to fix this through the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) integration, which allows developers to execute smart contracts and build dApps on the Bitcoin network – something that was never possible before.

At the heart of this ecosystem overhaul is a non-custodial, decentralized canonical bridge. In plain English, it locks up your Layer 1 $BTC and mints an equivalent amount of Layer 2 $BTC tokens.

These L2 tokens can then be used for Web3 interactions, including staking, lending, swapping, NFT transactions, DeFi trading, and much more. Once you’re done, simply use the bridge to swap back your L2 tokens for L1 Bitcoin.

The $HYPER presale has already gained strong traction, raising $11.53M so far.

Even better, this includes sizable institutional investments, with whale purchases of $75K, $54K, $38K, $19.6K, and $13.2K, underscoring big-money interest in the project.

Currently priced at just $0.012785 apiece, our $HYPER price prediction suggests it could surge to $0.32 by the end of 2025, delivering a potential 2,400% return.

Want in on the project? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to buy $HYPER.

For more information, visit Bitcoin Hyper’s official website.

2. Best Wallet Token ($BEST) – Native Cryptocurrency of a Privacy-First and User-Friendly Crypto Wallet

Best Wallet Token ($BEST) is the in-house cryptocurrency of Best Wallet – a multi-chain, non-custodial crypto wallet built with a focus on user security.

Here, you hold the private keys, leaving no room for foul play by malicious third parties. On top of that, the app uses Fireblocks MPC security tech, biometric logins, and scam protection to keep your funds safe.

One of the most exciting features, though, is the Presale Aggregator section, which helps you load up on the best new meme coins in presale before they hit the mainstream.

Plus, being a multi-chain wallet, Best Wallet already supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Smart Chain, with 50 more blockchains coming soon.

This means you won’t have to jump between multiple wallets to manage your crypto portfolio – everything is accessible from one easy-to-use interface.

Why buy $BEST?

  • According to our $BEST price prediction, the token could hit $0.62 by 2026, delivering a potential 2,500% return.
  • Reduced trading and gas fees on the platform
  • Staking rewards, currently yielding 89%
  • Early access to the best crypto presales
  • Voting rights on key project decisions

The $BEST presale has been a massive success, to say the least, having already raised over $15M from early investors.

Currently priced at just $0.025515 per token, the next price increase is only a few hours away, so this could be your last chance to grab it this low.

Check out Best Wallet Token’s official website for more information.

3. Bertram The Pomeranian ($BERT) – A Philanthropic Meme Coin Eyeing New All-Time Highs

Bertram The Pomeranian ($BERT) is a Solana meme coin that goes beyond being just another character-driven hype asset.

Inspired by Bertram, a famous Pomeranian dog influencer with millions of followers, $BERT is tied to a noble mission of global pet care through WOOFHub.

WOOFHub, by the way, is an AI-powered startup dedicated to raising awareness about dog shelters, enabling real-time adoption alerts, and helping with lost pet tracking.

It also sells NFC-enabled smart dog collars, allowing owners to keep tabs on their pets’ locations at all times.

It’s worth noting that the project has already donated over 5 tonnes of dog food worldwide, further reinforcing its socially conscious mission.

On the market side, $BERT recently hit a $70M market cap after surging 40% in the past seven days. And it’s now trading at around $0.07095.

Its recent listing on BloFin injected fresh liquidity, fueling an 61% spike in trading volume within the last 24 hours alone.

Combined with strong technicals, including a robust MACD histogram and neatly stacked, fanning EMAs, $BERT looks poised to extend its parabolic bull run in the weeks ahead.

Conclusion

Fed Chair Jerome Powell has delivered positive signals for the U.S. economy, from slowing inflation and historically low unemployment rates to a relatively neutral stance on interest rates.

Most notably, he hinted at the possibility of an interest rate cut in September, which helped propel both the NASDAQ and crypto markets higher.

If you want to ride this bull run, utility-driven tokens like Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER), Best Wallet Token ($BEST), and $BERT could be among your best bets.

That said, remember that crypto markets are highly volatile and subject to significant risks. Always do your own research before investing. This article is not financial advice.

Bitcoin News Today: Ether (ETH) Likely to Top $5K, BTC Eyes Record High as Powell Sparks Rally; Watch for DAT Deal Risks: Asset Managers

by admin August 23, 2025

Cryptocurrencies surged late Friday after Federal Reserve President Jerome Powell struck a dovish tone at the Jackson Hole economic symposium, defying market expectations for a more hawkish stance. That has prompted asset managers to call for new all-time highs for bitcoin BTC$115,790.79, ether (ETH) and select altcoins.

What Powell said?

In one of his most important speeches, Powell suggested that the labor market could benefit from lower borrowing costs, having held the benchmark interest rate steady at 4.25% for eight months.

“Downside risks to employment are rising,” Powell said in prepared remarks for his keynote speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium, adding that the possibility of President Donald Trump’s tariffs having only a short-lived effect on inflation is “reasonable.”

“With policy in restrictive territory, the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance,” he noted.

Cryptocurrencies and stocks soared, and the probability of the September Fed rate cut jumped to 90% following the speech. Most analysts expect the momentum to continue in the days ahead.

Analysts see new highs for BTC and ETH above $5K

Analysts at Monarq Asset Management anticipate that ether’s price will rise above $5,000 in the coming days.

“We maintain our overall bullish stance. Market internals remain constructive, with few signs of overheating and, as you point out, a clear path to new all-time highs in both BTC and ETH,” Sam Gaer, chief investment officer of Monarq Asset Management’s Directional Fund, told CoinDesk.

“Our house view is that Powell’s dovish pivot has cleared the way for $5,000+ in the near term (also not the hardest call to make). Demand from treasury vehicles should increase into the fall as many of the deals announced this summer close or de-SPAC, in addition to ongoing institutional and retail inflows,” Gaer added.

Ethereum’s native token ether has already gained nearly 10% in 24 hours, hitting record highs above $4,800. As of writing, it changed hands at $4,700, according to CoinDesk data. Meanwhile, market leader bitcoin traded near $115,600, slightly down from the overnight high of $117,400.

Data from Deribit-listed options shows that ether’s rally has sparked renewed demand for upside bets, or call options. At press time, risk reversals were positive across all tenors, implying relative richness of calls. The sentiment wasn’t so bullish in BTC options.

Gaer stated that over-the-counter desks and market makers are experiencing stronger demand for ETH compared to BTC, suggesting that ether may outperform ahead.

That said, BTC looked strong on its own too. “The BTC pullback from ATH was ~9.6%—far less than earlier drawdowns this year—indicating strong demand, as evidenced by whale wallet accumulation around the $113k level,” Gaer said.

Spencer Yang, managing partner at BlockSpaceForce, a crypto treasury advisory firm, said more rate cuts could happen after September, ensuring the momentum extends well into the year-end.

“We’re now fully expecting rate cuts to happen in September. It will be the first cut since Trump became President this year. This is significant, and many more will come,” Yang said, calling new highs in the crypto market.

“The major 5 that we pay attention to: BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, LINK. These will do well given the various parts of the crypto industry they impact,” Yang added.

Focus on ETF flows

Steve Lee, co-founder and managing partner at Neoclassic Capital and investor in BlockTower Capital, called Powell’s dovish turn a short-term constructive development for cryptocurrencies while stressing the importance of continued inflows into bitcoin and ether spot ETFs.

“I see this as constructive in the short term, and it may help reverse this week’s sell-off. The key question is whether this momentum holds beyond the low-liquidity weekend. Since BTC and ETH price action is increasingly institutionally driven, spot ETF flows today and Monday will be a strong indicator of whether we are set for another leg higher,” Lee told CoinDesk.

Lee highlighted Base, Monad, Story, and SUI as key projects of interest that he is closely monitoring in his capacity as an early-stage venture capitalist.

Gaer, meanwhile, favored Solana and the SOL ecosystem, including high-beta SOL tokens such as JITO and JUP. Raydium and PUMP on both a “fundamental and forward-demand basis.”

Potential headwinds

While Powell’s dovish stance has set the stage for a rally, traders should remain cautious about potential pitfalls from corporate treasury cryptocurrency adoption and volatility in equity markets.

“Digital asset treasuries (DAT) are an innovative vehicle for public market investors to gain exposure to the digital asset space. However, we have started to see the quality of DAT deals – from banking relationships, compliance, management team, and deal structure perspectives — dropping, which shows early signs of a ‘bubble,” Lee said.

Naqsdaq-listed Strategy started this trend of corporate BTC adoption in 2020. Since then, more than 100 publicly-listed firms have accumulated a total of 984,971 BTC, according to data source Bitcoin Treasuries.

“The trend may continue, but it is obvious that the risks associated with this are not ignorable,” Lee added.

Gaer called for closely tracking risks from an overheated equity market and “potential for macro or geopolitical shocks.”

CRCL, COIN, MSTR Among Crypto Stock Rally as Powell Signals Possible September Rate Cuts

by admin August 23, 2025

Crypto-linked stocks and digital assets surged on Friday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled that the central bank could begin cutting interest rates as soon as September.

The tone marked a shift after weeks of growing investor doubt that the Fed would act before year-end.

Bitcoin BTC$115,897.19 and ether (ETH) both moved higher following Powell’s remarks, as did the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Shares tied directly to the crypto sector posted some of the sharpest moves of the day.

At the time of writing, Circle (CRCL) led the pack with a 7% jump. eToro (ETOR) and Marathon Digital (MARA) each climbed 6%, while Coinbase (COIN) rose 5%. MicroStrategy (MSTR), which holds billions in bitcoin, gained 4%, and Robinhood (HOOD) advanced 3%.

The moves underscored how tightly crypto assets and equities remain linked to expectations for U.S. monetary policy. Lower interest rates typically ease financial conditions, encouraging risk-taking and increasing the appeal of speculative assets.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly called on the Fed to ease borrowing costs. Powell, however, emphasized that inflation risks remain and the labor market continues to show signs of strain.

Still, he suggested the calculus is evolving. “The balance of risks appears to be shifting,” Powell said, adding that while the jobs picture looks stable on the surface, “it is a curious kind of balance that results from a marked slowing in both the supply of and demand for workers.”

That cautious framing helped reassure markets that the Fed is potentially preparing to move to cut rates but not rushing into a decision. Investors had grown less confident about a September cut after a series of firmer-than-expected economic readings. Friday’s comments put the possibility back in play.

Jerome Powell rate-cut hint jolts Ethereum price toward 2021 ATH territory

by admin August 22, 2025

A wave of optimism from Jackson Hole swept through digital asset markets, with Ethereum price leading the charge. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap surged over 14%, bringing its historical $4,891 all-time high firmly into view.

Summary

  • Ethereum surged over 14% to $4,820 after Fed Chair Jerome Powell hinted at potential rate cuts.
  • Trading volume jumped 95% in 24 hours, surpassing Bitcoin’s volume and pushing ETH close to its 2021 all-time high.
  • The move sparked broader crypto market optimism and institutional interest, reflected in ETFs and equity-linked shares.

According to crypto.news data, Ethereum (ETH) surged over 14% on August 22, jumping from a daily low of $4,205 to trade as high as $4,820 as of press time, a mere 1.5% away from its all-time high price of $4,891, set four years ago.

The token’s trading volume jumped 95% in the last 24 hours to top $68.22 billion, dwarfing Bitcoin’s (BTC) $79.86 billion during the same period. The original cryptocurrency gained 4% on Friday to exchange hands at $116,640 at the time of writing.

ETH’s stunning rally alongside a broader crypto market rebound came as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, during his keynote in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, signaled a potential pivot in monetary policy, stating that the current “shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance.”

“This is bullish for the front end of the yield curve and risk assets, where bitcoin is a fast horse in the race. A dovish tilt could supercharge BTC’s narrative as a hedge against fiat uncertainty, accelerating institutional accumulation and liquidity. While the mid and long end of the curve remain uncertain, bitcoin’s sensitivity to macro signals means it’s poised to ride any wave of optimism from rate cut expectations.” Jessy Gilger, investment Advisor at Bitcoin financial services firm Unchained, said.

Fed signals must meet Ethereum fundamentals

According to Marcin Kazmierczak, Co-founder of RedStone, a measured Fed easing cycle could be the final catalyst required for ETH to shatter the $4,800-$5,000 resistance barrier and chart a course toward new all-time highs. However, he cautions that Powell’s deliberately careful tone is a reminder that sustainable growth cannot rely on monetary policy speculation alone.

Kazmierczak argues that any lasting rally must be anchored by continued fundamental adoption, specifically pointing to robust institutional flows via spot ETFs and a resurgence in decentralized finance network activity. These fundamentals, rather than fleeting Fed sentiment, provide the necessary bedrock for a true breakout.

“The convergence of institutional flows, DeFi activity, and potential Fed accommodation creates a compelling setup for ETH to potentially reach the $5,000-$6,000 range that analysts have been targeting for 2025,” Kazmierczak said in a statement obtained by crypto.news.

This bullish technical and fundamental setup has encouraged strikingly optimistic predictions. Arthur Hayes, chief investment officer at Maelstrom, has projected that Ethereum’s momentum could propel it to a staggering $20,000 by the cycle’s end.

In a recent interview on Crypto Banter, Hayes stated, “The chart says it’s going higher, you can’t fight the market. I think [Ethereum] goes to $10,000, $20,000, before the end of the cycle.” This audacious forecast, while speculative, captures the intensely optimistic sentiment building around Ethereum’s potential.

Public markets respond to ETH price surge

The Ethereum price surge euphoria bled into public equity markets, offering a proxy for institutional Ethereum exposure. Companies with significant ether treasuries, which had been battered earlier in the week amid a tech sector sell-off, ripped higher in tandem with the coin’s price. Bitmine Immersion and SharpLink Gaming saw their shares jump 14% and 12%, respectively, according to CNBC data.

Still, the outlook remains layered. Ether-focused ETFs, which snapped a four-day streak of outflows with $287.6 million in inflows on Thursday, remain on pace for their worst week since May. That divergence highlights the tension between short-term speculation and long-term allocation, leaving open the question of how much institutional appetite will continue if the Fed’s policy path stays uncertain.

Ethereum, Bitcoin Spike After Powell Signals Interest Rate Cut

by admin August 22, 2025

In brief

  • The Federal Reserve has left the interest rate unchanged at its last five meetings.
  • In a speech at an annual gathering in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell said that conditions had changed.
  • The Fed meets again in September.

The price of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rose on Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell signaled the possibility of an interest rate cut in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Within 15 minutes of Powell’s speech starting, Bitcoin jumped above $114,700 from $112,000, a nearly 2.5% gain, while Ethereum surged to $4,600 from $4,300, an almost 7% increase, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. Both cryptocurrencies remained down 2.9% and 1.4%, respectively, over the past week.

By the time Powell was done with his remarks, altcoins were soaring. XRP and Solana had both surged more than 6% in less than an hour, with XRP regaining the $3 threshold for the first time since Tuesday. Dogecoin leapt more than 7% for the same time frame. However, most altcoins tracked by CoinGecko were still slightly in the red on the week, a sign of investors’ earlier angst about the Fed’s path forward.

An interest rate cut would likely buoy cryptocurrency and other risk-on assets by boosting liquidity for investment. U.S. President Donald Trump has been pressuring Powell relentlessly to slash rates amid concerns that the economy is slowing.

In a Myriad Linea market, 87% of respondents expect the Fed to change the interest rate, up from closer to 70% earlier this week.

(Disclosure: Myriad is a prediction market and engagement platform developed by Dastan, parent company of an editorially independent Decrypt.)

Powell was steadfast in his assessment that the central bank faces elevated inflation risks compared to the labor market, but he said that the central bank is prepared to adjust its policy stance if its dual mandate of full employment and stable prices is in conflict.

Caveating that the central bank is not on any preset course, Powell said “the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance,” indicating that the central bank may lower interest rates at its September meeting.

Still, Powell warned that inflation from Trump’s tariffs has not been fully reflected in economic data, and it could be that way for months.

“It will continue to take more time for tariff increases to work their way through supply chains and distribution networks,” he said. “Come what may, we will not allow a one-time increase in the price level to become an ongoing inflation problem.”

Analysts say that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were falling earlier this week in anticipation of Powell’s eighth and final speech in Jackson Hole as Fed chair. With markets positioned for easing in September, they said “cautiously hawkish” remarks could disappoint investors.

Bitwise Senior Investment Strategist Juan Leon told Decrypt on Thursday that he expected Powell to focus on sticky inflation and tariff uncertainty, while avoiding any pre-commitment to a rate cut in September and potentially pressuring risk-on assets with a firmer tone.

Powell looked back on the COVID-19 pandemic in defending his tenure as Fed chair. The central bank took drastic measures to stabilize markets and stimulate growth as the U.S. economy ground to a halt nearly overnight. And as a red-hot economy roared back from pandemic-related pressures, inflation peaked at a four-decade high of 9.1% in June 2022.
