Gary Oldman “fancied a go at Dumbledore” in new Harry Potter series

by admin June 18, 2025

Gary Oldman has been discussing his interest in the new Harry Potter series, as well as expressing disappointment that he didn’t get the chance to play Dumbledore on the show.

We now know who will be starring in Season 1 of the forthcoming Harry Potter show, which is set to commence principal photography this summer, for a proposed 2026 release.

Three relative unknowns are playing leads Harry, Hermione, and Ron, the Malfoys have been revealed, while Paapa Essiedu is the new Snape, and Nick Frost is playing Hagrid.

One of the most coveted roles is that of Albus Dumbledore, who was brought to life by Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon in the original movies, and Jude Law in the Fantastic Beasts. John Lithgow has been cast as the Hogwarts headmaster in the small-screen version, which has left one actor disappointed.

Why Gary Oldman is “intrigued to see” the new Harry Potter

Gary Oldman played Sirius Black in multiple Harry Potter movies, and he’s keen to see how those same stories unfold on television. “I’m actually very intrigued to see it,” he told Variety in the above video, “because so much of the books were cut.”

But he also thinks his participation in the films probably ruled him out of the show, saying: “My personal feeling is that they were not going to go anywhere near people that were connected to the original.”

Which meant that Oldman was gutted when Lithgow was announced, as he admits: “I would have fancied a go at Dumbledore – I’m getting up there now to the right age for Dumbledore.”

The new show is due to hit screens in 2026, and you can see what’s out before then in our our 2025 TV calendar. While for more Harry Potter action, here’s news of Tom Felton’s unexpected return to the franchise, while these are 10 facts about the new Snape.

Warner Bros. Games restructures leadership team following new focus on Game of Thrones, DC, Harry Potter, and Mortal Kombat

by admin June 18, 2025

Warner Bros. Games has undergone a drastic shift among its leadership, as part of the company’s refocus on major IPs like Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.

According to Variety, three studio heads were promoted to senior vice president positions. These include NetherRealm’s Shaun Himmerick, Warner Bros. Games New York’s Steven Flenory, and Warner Bros. Games Montreal’s Yves Lachance.

Himmerick is now in charge of both Mortal Kombat and DC games, Lachance is handling Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, while Flenory is left with game and publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance and user research.

Recently a trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was revealed at Summer Game Fest. Check it out here!Watch on YouTube

The trio will now report to Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO of games and global streaming, while all teams under the Warner Bros. umbrella will now be reporting directly to these new vice presidents.

Variety confirmed no layoffs are attached with this shift. This is in stark contrast to Rocksteady, developer of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and part of the Warner Bros. Discovery collection of studios, which suffered significant layoffs in January 2025.

Warner also recently closed Monolith, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego as part of what the company called a “strategic change in direction”. Back in March it was reported by Bloomberg a major expansion to Hogwarts Legacy was cancelled, and MultiVersus officially got its final update earlier this year. Even Mortal Kombat wasn’t sheltered from this hardship, suddenly announcing an end to major updates in May despite prior statements from Ed Boon that the game would have a longer life ahead of it.

So what does this mean for future games from Warner Bros. Games? Well we know a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is coming, a game that proved exceptionally popular for Warner Bros. and a jewel in its crown ever since.

We also saw Game of Thrones: War for Westeros announced at Summer Game Fest, an RTS set to launch next year. These will prove to be the first examples of games created under the umbrella of Warner Bros. Games’ new direction, and a tone setter for what’s to come. DC Boss James Gunn stated in February he was discussing the development of games using the IP with Rocksteady and NetherRealm. Injustice 3, anyone?

It’s clear Warner Bros. Games is in a bad state. Its lack of game releases resulted in a 48 percent drop in game revenue last quarter, and it has unceremoniously kicked hundreds of developers out the door. The company is in desperate need of a win. Whether or not this shift can lead to an end to what has been a hellish decade for the media giant’s gaming aspirations remains to be seen.

New Lego Lord Of The Rings & Harry Potter Sets Are Unique Bookshelf Decorations

by admin May 28, 2025

Lego couldn’t have picked a better reference to use in the Lord of the Rings: Book Nook. The 1,201-piece set features a buildable Balrog figure with a placard that reads: “You shall not pass.” This pays homage to the conversation between Gandalf, who is represented as a Lego minifigure, and a Balrog in the movie adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring. In the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, the exchange is worded “cannot pass” instead of “shall not pass.”

Lego’s new Book Nook display models can be displayed in multiple different ways. After building the frame that houses Balrog and Gandalf, you can close it like a book, as shown above, and wedge it between two Lord of the Rings books on your bookshelf. Every time you look at it, the Balrog will remind you that you should probably read The Hobbit before The Lord of the Rings.

For big readers who own numerous copies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, this Lego set looks like a cool way to spice up a shelf filled with collectible editions of Tolkien’s fantasy stories.

That said, it’s also the cheapest Lord of the Rings Lego set in print right now–by a considerable margin. The only other Lord of the Rings Lego sets currently being produced are the 5,471-piece Barad-dur tower for $460, the sprawling 6,167-piece Rivendell replica for $500, and the recently released recreation of The Shire for $270.

For that reason, the Balrog Book Nook could be of interest to fans who read all of their books on Kindle. You can display the Balrog and Gandalf minifigure with the frame unfolded. The base has flames extending upward on both sides of the Balrog. When opened, the Book Nook is 17.5 inches wide, 8.5 inches tall, and 6.5 inches deep. Alternatively, you can remove the Balrog and Gandalf minifigure from the base altogether.

If you need more Lord of the Rings books to keep the Balrog Book Nook company, check out our newly published roundup of new and upcoming Tolkien book box sets and budget-friendly collector’s editions.
