Nintendo Has Released The First Switch 2 Update Post-Launch

by admin June 21, 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched earlier this month on June 5, and since then, we’ve reviewed Mario Kart World, Welcome Tour, and the console itself. We have also checked out various re-releases on Switch 2 to see how they run. Now, though, for the first time since the Switch 2 launched, Nintendo has pushed out a new hardware update.

Dubbed Ver. 20.1.5, this Switch 2 update couldn’t be more unexciting, to be honest. Here’s what Nintendo says it does: “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.” Wow! If you’re anything like me, you didn’t even notice this update happened and didn’t recognize any changes from it either.

Nonetheless, the Switch 2 has received its first post-launch update.

In the meantime, read about how the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console ever, with 3.5 million units sold in its first four days, and then listen to the latest episode of The Game Informer Show, where we give our thoughts on the console.

Is there anything you want in a future Switch 2 update? Let us know in the comments below!

Borderlands 4 Post-Launch Plans Include New Vault Hunters, But They Won’t Be Free

by admin June 16, 2025

Borderlands 4 developer Gearbox has outlined its post-launch plans for the game, which include new Vault Hunters. These new additions to the roster won’t be free, however, as they’ll be added to the game through the $130 Super Deluxe Edition. Gearbox has not yet revealed if they’ll be available as standalone purchases, but it’s likely that the new Story Packs or an upgrade can be purchased for the Standard or Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4.

In addition to the new Story Packs adding more Vault Hunters, these will also throw in an entirely new region of Kairos with extended narrative content, Gearbox said in a blog post. Additional storylines and side missions will be included alongside various cosmetics and Bounty Packs that will feature “more tightly focused content” for players.

Now Playing: Borderlands 4 – Official 18 Minute Gameplay Deep Dive Overview Trailer

Each Bounty Pack will feature a new area with fresh missions alongside a unique boss fight, loot, a new type of personalized Digirunner vehicle, and a Vault Card with its own set of rewards for completing certain challenges. Bounty Packs will be included in the Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions of the game.

The previous mainline Borderlands games have had four post-launch expansions. The first Borderlands game introduced fan-favorite character Moxxi in the Underdome Riot expansion, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep from Borderlands 2 was critically acclaimed, and Borderlands 3 brought back everyone’s favorite villain Handsome Jack–kind of–for a heist story.

Paywalling new Vault Hunters behind post-launch content isn’t unusual either for the series, as characters like Gaige, Krieg, Handsome Jack’s doppelganger Timothy, and Aurelia were all available as DLC or as preorder bonuses. The only exception to the rule is Borderlands 3, as all four playable Vault Hunters were available at launch and no additional characters were introduced as post-launch DLC.

Borderlands 3 also had a lot of free DLC added to it over the years, with one of the more notable examples being a block-shifting puzzle game that helped real-world scientists organize data. Millions of players took part in this project, and they were officially recognized as scientific contributors for their help. Borderlands 4 launches on September 12 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2, and ahead of its arrival, Gearbox has been sharing a few more details on the game.

We’ve already seen some of the big co-op changes that Gearbox has been working on, more details on the new Vault Hunters have been revealed, and the loot system has also been overhauled.

Elden Ring Nightreign director says Fromsoft “kind of overlooked and neglected” playing as a duo, but 2 player-friendly “post-launch support” is being considered

by admin May 24, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign’s director says that while FromSoft prioritised getting the three-player and solo experiences the game offers just right for launch, folks who prefer to take on the challenges of the night as a pair might be getting some duos-focused “post-launch support”.

You can play Nightreign as a duo right out of the gate, provided you don’t mind being matched up with a random third wheel to make up your team, much in the same way anyone playing solo will end up with two strangers that gaming law dictates will either be unbelievably skilled or utterly hopeless.

Speaking to IGN, Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki was asked why the game doesn’t have an option for a duo to drop right into a game as a twosome if they wish.

“The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we’re very sorry about that,” Ishizaki re-iterating that trios play the game’s three person teams naturally facilitate and solo play were the two options that it made most sense for the studio to focus on from the get go, especially when it came to balancing.

“We did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players in as much as the rules and new systems allowed,” he explained, “So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.”

It makes sense. Trios action is “at the core of Nightreign”, so that’s gotta be the main focus, and FromSoft games are famous for letting you solo bosses, so to cater to the usual single-player crowd playing by yourself has to be a priority in terms of striking a difficulty balance that’s in the Godskin Goldilocks zone. You’ve only got finite time and resources, so the couples take a backseat.

Ishizaki outlined the sort of work that’s gone into making sure the game for individual players a bit further on in the interview, explaining: “Solo play is generally encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop, but also in general for those solo players — and this might be something that’s difficult to notice in multiplayer — but the activeness and aggressiveness of enemies towards any one single player has been adjusted so that you don’t find yourself in any unreasonable multi-foe fights. And just generally, when you’re playing single player, the parameters adjust dynamically depending on the number of players in that session.”

If you want a picture of what the Nightreign playing experience is like, make sure to read our hands-on preview from earlier this year. Also, it’s now been confirmed that an Elden Ring movie is in the works.

Elden Ring Nightreign could receive two player mode post-launch

by admin May 23, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign’s director has apologised for the lack of two player mode in the multiplayer spin-off, but is considering adding it post-launch.

The co-operative game is designed for three players, though it’s possible to play alone too. However, a two player option does not exist.

“The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we’re very sorry about that,” director Junya Ishizaki told IGN. “As we said before, we set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus and it’s at the core of Nightreign.”

In addition, the development team at FromSoftware considered solo play “from the start”.

“And so we did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players in as much as the rules and new systems allowed,” said Ishizaki. “So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.”

Ishizaki also discussed further how players are somewhat alone, whether playing solo or as a group of three.

“Seeing as this game is built around three players, we understand the concerns of those solo players, but essentially a lot of the time in Nightreign you will be acting and behaving on your own,” he said. “Even in a group as three, you’ll be going off and challenging different areas of the map and collecting different things before you accumulate together at the boss fight.

“So solo play is generally encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop, but also in general for those solo players – and this might be something that’s difficult to notice in multiplayer – but the activeness and aggressiveness of enemies towards any one single player has been adjusted so that you don’t find yourself in any unreasonable multi-foe fights.

“And just generally, when you’re playing single player, the parameters adjust dynamically depending on the number of players in that session. So we hope that this will alleviate that feeling somewhat.”

Still, playing solo is a much more challenging experience without teammates to revive you, though Ishizaki hints there’s a self-revive feature hidden around the map for players to discover.

FromSoftware has made some tweaks since the network test back in February. Judging by player numbers, many were struggling to defeat the first Nightlord, Gladius.

Following the test, Ishizaki said the team had “received a lot of helpful feedback regarding the difficulty” and that Gladius would “receive some updates”.
