MindsEye boss accuses players of being paid to criticize it

by admin May 28, 2025

MindsEye’s boss has suggested that creators and players who previewed the game were paid to react negatively.

The upcoming action-adventure shooter game MindsEye only just unveiled its new gameplay trailer alongside a roadmap for 2025. Having Leslie Benzies involved, a former GTA dev, the game has been drawing plenty of attention.

One new advertised feature allows players to create their own missions using the in-game creation system, and that comes on top of its hand-crafted narrative experience.

That said, despite drawing near to its June 10, 2025 release, overall reception of the game isn’t off to a great start. Many who jumped into an early preview called out a litany of issues, saying it’s a “mess,” the enemies “lacked depth,” and the driving feels “stiff,” among other factors.

Following the feedback from players, Build a Rocket co-CEO Mark Gerhard was seen responding to a question on the official Discord, suggesting that creators and players alike were being paid to talk about the game negatively.

Previews for Mindseye (by former Rockstar Games producer Leslie Benzies) are out and they are not looking promising at all.

MindsEye boss claims players are “100%” getting paid to react negatively

In the official Discord server, Gerhard was asked if he thinks all the people who “reacted negatively were financed by someone,” to which he answered with: “100%.” He didn’t specifically elaborate on this claim but did mention that it “doesn’t take much to guess who.”

The co-CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, the developers of Mindseye, has accused content creators and media outlets of being paid off by other studios (even implying by Rockstar) to talk negatively about their game.

It’s speculated that this could likely imply Rockstar Games, given there’s a shared community between GTA and MindsEye, and due to the history of some ex-Rockstars on the team.

When confronted about this, he claimed that there’s a “concerted effort” involved regarding criticizing the game and studio.

He wrote: “There is a concerted effort by some people that don’t want to see Leslie [Benzies] or Build A Rocket Boy to be successful that are making a concerted effort to trash the game and the studio. It’s pretty easy to see the bots and the repeated replies to any content that we put out.”

Just when things started to heat up, though, especially when pressed further about his claims, he said, “No, I never said that. I do know that there are bot farms posting negative comments and dislikes.”

Meanwhile, when a user mentioned that “implying another studio is paying previewers” to talk about MindsEye negatively is a “wild statement to make,” he responded, “Not wild when it’s true.”

Balatro’s PlayStation Platinum trophy has only been obtained by 0.1% of players, and Mark Cerny is one of them

by admin May 27, 2025

Only a very scant 0.1 percent of players have managed to platinum Indie hit Balatro, and PlayStation architect Mark Cerny is one of them.

Cerny – who was most recently the lead system architect for PS5 Pro, but has been involved with development of many other PlayStation consoles – shared the flex on social media.

“After seven months and hundreds of hours, proud to join the 0.1% of players that have achieved Platinum on Balatro,” Cerny wrote over the weekend (thanks, Push Square), adding: “Kudos to @LocalThunk for the incredibly deep gameplay.”

Does Anyone Really Want Long Games Anymore? Watch on YouTube

LocalThunk is, of course, the rather mysterious solo developer behind Balatro. How mysterious is he? Well, the developer managed to play Balatro at GDC earlier this year without anyone actually clocking who he was.

As for getting the game’s Platinum on PlayStation, Balatro players will need to earn all the other trophies first. Balatro has 32 PlayStation Trophies, which includes accolades such as Shattered which you can earn for breaking two Glass Cards in a single hand and You Get What You Get for winning a run without rerolling the shop. In the words of MetaGame.guide, “it’s a very long and quite difficult Platinum” to obtain.

So, while plenty of us have played, and are still playing, Balatro, that Platinum club remains a rather exclusive one. Nice to have you join us, Mark (I jest, I have absolutely not managed to get the Platinum!).

Congrats, Mark! What an incredible Platinum to achieve 🏆

The poker-themed roguelike has been a huge success since its debut, selling 1m copies in its first month. Balatro went on to scoop up numerous awards, including a BAFTA for best debut game earlier this year.

If that wasn’t enough to cement it as one of the hottest games of the last few years, it also popped up briefly in an episode of Black Mirror.

Be My Horde Update Sends Players To Hell

by admin May 26, 2025

Last year, Polished Games’ top-down 2D survival roguelite Be My Horde introduced players to Moriana, a necromancer–or necromancess, if you prefer–who can make the dead serve as her army. She’s the villain of her own story, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that Moriana is heading to Hell in the game’s newest update. If anything, that’s bad news for demons, because Moriana might be taking over Hell one circle at a time.

The name of update is “Welcome to Hell,” and it adds the Hell level, which may be Moriana’s biggest challenge to date. As seen in the newly released trailer below, Moriana’s travels through Hell will bring her face-to-face with the Devil himself. That video also offers a more in-depth look at what awaits in Hell. Moriana and her undead minions will have to battle new enemies and survive the severe hazards of the underworld. Fire tornadoes, lava ponds, and explosive volcanoes all stand between Moriana and her destiny.

As you may have noticed, Moriana’s powers thrive on death, and she can turn every fallen enemy into one of her new warriors. There’s no entrance test for this army. If Moriana can kill it, it’s her’s to command, even if it’s just an exploding sheep. However, Moriana is not invincible and she can be defeated in battle. But she always returns with a vengeance.

“Welcome to Hell” is also adding some tools to Moriana’s magical arsenal, including a new skill tree mechanic to enhance the minions and fresh attacks like Frost Nova, Frost Bolt, and Blizzard. Those are all very useful powers in Hell and beyond.

Be My Horde is still in early access on Steam, but the game is getting a temporary 20% discount that coincides with the arrival of “Welcome to Hell,” which is out today.

Diablo 4 Season 9 Will Let Players Build Their Own Spells

by admin May 26, 2025

Ahead of Diablo 4 Season 9’s arrival on the game’s public-test server on May 27, Blizzard has revealed players will be able to build their own spells next season.

Titled Sins of the Horadrim, players in Season 9 will be able use the new Horadric Spellcraft system to tailor-make a powerful spell to their liking. As detailed by Blizzard, spells will consist of three components–Catalysts, Infusions, and Arcana.

Size:640 × 360480 × 270

Now Playing: Diablo 4 x Berserk | Official Full Animated Reveal Trailer

Catalysts are the base power of the spell, with Blizzard describing it as the “foundation.” There are six Catalysts to choose from, like Disintegrate and Propulsion, that will give the spell its form and function.

Next are Infusions, which imbue the spell with its elemental damage type and some special effects. Lastly, players can equip three Arcana, which are used to modify the spell in a variety of ways, from granting players Unstoppable after using their Horadric spell to gaining Stealth for several seconds after use. Some Legendary Arcana grant fairly powerful effects, like the Floaty Bobble Arcana, which adds a Blink component to the spell, or the Bloody Charm, which simply executes non-boss enemies with 10% life or less when the spell is activated.

The Horadric Spellcraft system isn’t entirely different from how seasonal powers have worked in previous seasons (a common complaint among the playerbase), but does seem to give players more flexibility than before in terms of both what powers and what damage types they want to use.

However, Horadric Spellcrafting will just be one component of Season 9. Blizzard, in its quest, to continue improving base elements of Diablo 4’s endgame (as detailed in Diablo 4’s 2025 roadmap) is also putting a heavy emphasis on Nightmare dungeons, with new positive affixes that will benefit players in the form of more specialized crafting rewards or specific types of gear. Players will also (finally) be able to jump into a new Nightmare dungeon while still inside a different one, rather than having to leave the dungeon.

New for the season will be Horadric Strongrooms and Escalating Nightmares. Strongrooms are mini-dungeons inside Nightmare dungeons where players will use a wayfinder to find a hidden Horadric vault. Players will need to battle through demons in a set amount of time in order to claim the Strongroom’s rewards, and the difficulty of the Strongroom, and its rewards, can be adjusted and increased by activating various modifiers similar to players add modifiers in the Infernal Hordes activity. Additionally, players earn Horadric Jewels to put in their gear to further modify their Horadric spell.

Escalating Nightmares is a new spin on Nightmare dungeons that sees the effects of three different Nightmare dungeons stack in succession. Players will need to earn Escalation Sigils from Horadric Storerooms to challenge the Escalating Nightmares. Those who survive all three dungeons in succession will then battle against a new boss encounter with Astaroth, who players may remember from Diablo 4’s base campaign.

Diablo 4 Season 9 will be playable on the game’s PTR from May 27 to June 3, as Blizzard looks to test the season’s new systems as well as various balance changes and new Unique items. According to Diablo 4’s in-game timers, Season 9 proper will begin July 1.

Meanwhile, Diablo 4 Season 8, Belial’s Return, is in full swing, having revamped the game’s endgame boss cycle and battle pass (the latter of which hasn’t exactly gone over well). The season also marked Diablo 4’s first external IP collab with Berserk, even if the event itself is largely a wasted opportunity.

Don’t Expect Star Wars Battlefront 3 Anytime Soon, Or Ever, Despite Recent Surge In Players

by admin May 26, 2025

EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II is experiencing a surge in players, potentially fueled by the recent May the 4th Star Wars holiday and the Star Wars TV series Andor. The resurgence in popularity for the 2017 game has prompted some fans–and celebrities–to petition EA to make a third game. But it probably won’t happen.

That’s the opinion of former DICE live producer Mats Holm. He said on Reddit (via IGN), “I don’t expect Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of this rally.” However, Holm said he believes there are people “who are talking about it.” In another post, Holm said it would be challenging to bring back the team that made Battlefront II. “We are spread far and wide,” he said of himself and others who have since left DICE.

No new Battlefront games have been announced, which may sound surprising considering the 2015 game and the 2017 sequel combined to sell 33 million copies. A report said EA rejected a pitch for a third game due in part to licensing costs.

Holm–who now works at Paradox–went on to pitch his own idea for the future of Battlefront games, saying EA should remaster Battlefront II for the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2027-2028. After that, and if it’s a success, the developers could focus on Battlefront 3, he said.

DICE is currently working on Battlefield 6, so no one should expect the developer to make a third Battlefront game soon, if it ever does.

The Battlefront series debuted in 2004 with a third-person shooter from the since-shuttered Pandemic Studios. A sequel, Battlefront II, came out in 2005. A third game was reportedly in the works, but it was said to be canceled “two yards from the finish line.”

The two older games were packaged together in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which was released in 2024 to a terrible critical reception due to numerous bugs and other issues.

While Battlefront 3 may not be in the works, there are a number of upcoming Star Wars games, including Star Wars Eclipse from Quantic Dream.

Helldivers 2 players struggled with Heart of Democracy’s massive flying Illuminate Leviathans at first, so naturally they’re now surfing them through Super Earth’s skies

by admin May 25, 2025

Of all the new enemies Helldivers 2’s Heart of Democracy update brought in when it deployed players onto the war-torn streets of their home planet, the flying Leviathan might have been the most intimidating.

It’s up there in the sky, while you, your fellow Helldivers and any SEAF buddies you might have recruited are on the ground. People struggled to take the airbourne Illuminate worms down at first, but this is HD2, so of course we’re now at the stage where at least one player’s managed to master the Leviathans to the extent they’ve figured out how to surf on top of them through the Mega Cities.

The player in question, Reddit user Beautiful-Injury7738, has shared a couple of different clips of them managing to clib aboard Leviathans and ride them around while waving the Super Earth flag, because democracy.

“I spent longer than I would like to admit setting this up”, they wrote of their first clip, which you can watch below. As you can see, they’ve somehow managed to scale an antenna via some hover pack stratagem parkour, leaving them high enough to boost-jump across to the top of the Leviathan as it floats past. Once on top, they can happily stay there without slipping off or getting shot, since the flying baddie doesn’t have any weapons mounted to take out stuff above it.

Sadly, it seems there also isn’t a weak point up there that’d allow players who manage to do this to take out the Leviathan from there and then try to survive the rapid descent that’d ensue. In that first clip, Beautiful-Injury7738 tries to stab the Super Earth flag stratagem added by the Masters of Ceremony Warbond into the flying bastie’s back, but to no avail. They eventually end up riding it outside of the combat zone and are automatically blown to bits for deserting.

Their second attempt saw them try out some thermite explosives and flamethrower, but neither of those can seemingly be used to take out one of the beasties from the above either. “It’s a lot of fun, there’s only one building I can consistently scale with the hover pack,” the Super surfer summarised, “You shoot a couple of signs off of one of the buildings and can slowly hover up in a few jumps.”

Naturally, their fellow divers have been singing their praises and showering them in Dune memes. This isn’t the first time Helldivers 2 players have found a way to surf on top of vehicle-style enemies they’ve previously found tough to take out – surfing on top of factory striders was a trend last year

Plus, mech riding was a thing before that. They’re accomplished rodeo riders, these Helldivers.

Are you going to try and do some Leviathan surfing next time you drop in? Let us know below!

Slumping Athletics shake up roster, call up five players

by admin May 24, 2025

May 23, 2025, 05:54 PM ET

Mired in a nine-game losing streak, the Athletics shook up their roster Friday and called up five players, including highly touted prospect Denzel Clarke.

Veteran Seth Brown was designated for assignment amid moves that general manager David Forst hopes will give the club more flexibility.

“Ultimately, obviously we’re in a stretch right now we’re not finding ways to win,” Forst said in a video news conference. “I think we’re better than we’ve shown the last 10 days.”

Clarke, a 25-year-old center fielder known for his standout defense, speed and power, was the team’s fourth-round selection in the 2021 amateur draft. He was set to start and make his major league debut Friday night for the A’s (22-29) in the opener of a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies at home in West Sacramento.

Clarke was batting .286 with no home runs, 21 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 31 games with Las Vegas. His .436 on-base percentage ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League.

Also recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas were left-hander Jacob Lopez and infielder CJ Alexander, while catcher Willie MacIver and infielder Logan Davidson were selected from Las Vegas.

During the skid, the club has been outscored 72-26, is batting .209 and has a team ERA of 8.23 while allowing 23 home runs.

Outfielder JJ Bleday was optioned to Triple-A along with right-hander Carlos Duran and catcher Jhonny Pereda. The A’s also transferred second baseman Zack Gelof to the 60-day injured list.

Forst said Bleday needed a “reset” to find a rhythm at the plate and on defense — something he couldn’t find playing every day at the big league level right now. Manager Mark Kotsay spoke to Bleday on Friday about the move.

“Hopefully he’ll be back here very soon,” Forst said.

Third baseman Gio Urshela was placed on the 10-day injured list after straining his left hamstring in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. He underwent an MRI on Friday.

Urshela left the game in the sixth inning with the injury of the 10-5 defeat.

Urshela went 1 for 2 with a bases-loaded walk in the game. He is batting .224 with no homers and 13 RBIs in 32 games this season.

The 32-year-old Brown had been the longest-tenured player on the team but struggled to get regular opportunities. He spent time in the minor leagues last year for a stretch, and Forst remained hopeful he would clear waivers and play for Las Vegas before returning at some point to the A’s.

He was hitting .192 with a home run and three RBIs in 33 games.

Most players ‘know next to nothing about how games are made’: New Blood devs sound off on gamedev misconceptions

by admin May 23, 2025

Hang out with a game developer in a casual setting for an hour and the topic of gamedev misconceptions is bound to come up. It’s always fun to explain what people get wrong about your job, especially if it could lead to fewer misguided assumptions and mean comments on the internet.

Such was the goal of a monster feature interviewing 32 game developers published today at GamesRadar, which included several choice quotes from New Blood, the indie studio known for modern throwbacks like Dusk, Ultrakill, and Gloomwood.

Pulling no punches as usual, New Blood CEO Dave Oshry said that most players “know next to nothing about how games are made,” adding that game development teams have more in common with film and TV production than you’d think.

You may like

“With the exception of solo devs, games are an artistic endeavor that require the cooperation of handfuls, dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people at once working together to create interactive art,” Oshry said. “You can put all the great programmers, artists, animators and sound designers you want in the same building but that doesn’t mean they can make a great game. Great games are made by great teams that work great together. It helps when they’re all friends, too.”

I think most fans understand that it takes a village, but Oshry is also speaking to the surface-level chatter surrounding new games or studios as they’re first announced, the roots of which often begin with the studios themselves. There’s nothing a new outfit with big investors loves more than highlighting all the successful games its employees have collectively worked on, but that has almost nothing to do with what they’ll eventually make together. How many studios “founded by ex-Blizzard devs” have come and gone over the years?

The idea is to sell a studio’s immense talent so you can attract other talent, which is reasonable and important, but who’s to say if that talent will gel together? That’s the hardest part, according to Oshry, and exceedingly rare.

I rate that one a 5/10 on the misconception scale, but Oshry’s cohort David Szymanski had a spicier take that I subscribe to. The man behind Dusk and Iron Lung is tired of seeing “dev laziness” used as “a blanket explanation for missing/buggy features or seemingly hacky implementation.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

“These decisions are nearly always driven by an unseen web of more complex issues and/or external pressure,” he said.

Not an especially spicy observation, but then Szymanski went on to say that, in some instances, the accessibility of game dev tools these days has become “a bit of a double-edged sword” when complaints start flooding in.

“It’s now very easy to acquire enough knowledge to make broad incorrect assumptions about how easy a given task should be,” Szymanski said.

You know, that does sound annoying—8/10 misconception. It’s one level of irritation when someone with absolutely no background in your field makes a wild assumption, but it’s way worse when someone believes they know just enough to tell you how it’s done. When your favorite game is missing a feature that you believe should be there by now, there’s always that one guy who gets 5,000 upvotes on Reddit with a post titled “As a game developer, don’t let them fool you, this should be easy as hell.”

Similarly, Helldivers 2 and Palword devs had some words for fans who intuitively believe that big features can be made within days or weeks when they actually take months. The whole feature’s packed with quotes like that, so make sure to check out the full thing over at GamesRadar.

Eagleopolis has fallen despite Helldivers 2 players slapping up 2.5 billion squids for an opening victory in the battle for Super Earth, leaving six Mega Cities to defend

by admin May 23, 2025

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Well, good news, Helldivers 2 managed to win the first major order of the battle for Super Earth by slaughtering over two billion Illuminate. The bad news? It’s not stopped Eagleopolis from falling.

As it turns out, not even the biggest number of Helldivers the game’s had since last spring diving in to help try and hold off the invasion of fresh Illuminate baddies was enough to stop one of Super Earth’s seven Mega Cities being reduced to ruins. It’s ok, don’t cry. Hug your SEAF buddy and watch a clip of someone surfing on a Leviathan if that’ll help.

The previous major order, which was the Helldivers’ initial defense of Super Earth after the Illuminate invasion of their home planet began with the arrival of the Heart of Democracy update, ended this morning. Things looked good, the goal of casually killing 2.5 billion Illuminate had been achieved. Let the good times roll right?

Nope, said Arrowhead. “Eagleopolis, a venerable stronghold of Managed Democracy since time immemorial, lies in ruins,” the studio informed us all via its latest MO briefing, “Its tattered shopping centers stand in warning as to the fate that awaits the rest of Super Earth, should our mission fail.”

So, that’s one of the seven Mega Cities which make up Super Earth destroyed, but there’s still a long way to go in the battle for Super Earth, and that win has seen folks make some progress towards wiping out the entire Illuminate fleet or forcing it to retreat.

“Illuminate Fleet Strength currently stands at 49%,” Arrowhead continued, “Six Mega Cities remain standing. The Helldivers must dig in, alongside their SEAF allies, and continue to fight, day and night, to defend the heart of our Federation. The surviving Mega Cities must be defended at all costs. The Helldivers must deploy to the Mega Cities as Illuminate pressure shifts among them to prevent them from falling. Once they fall, they cannot be reclaimed.”

Hence the latest order’s goal – successfull extract from missions against the Illuminate 20 million times, in order to strike a further blow to the fleet’s big invisible health bar. And, of course, to avenge Eagleopolis, which I’m sure people on the game’s subreddit would be cut up about if they weren’t too busy post fan art about loving their SEAF trooper buddies in a fashion that totally isn’t getting a bit creepy.

Once we have more TOTS players in Ultimate Team, we will add them to this guide. The teams mentioned here could still get more cards as part of SBCs. Additionally, the lists only include players who have found a position on their respective TOTS starting lineups. There are also extra items, such as TOTS Highlights and Honorable Mentions, to watch out for.
