Silksong reviews drop to mostly negative for Chinese players due to confusing translations

by admin September 8, 2025

For most Hollow Knight: Silksong players, the combat is challenging and the boss fights are punishing. However, there’s another layer of complexity for anyone playing the sequel in Simplified Chinese: the bizarre translations. On its Steam store page, Silksong currently sits at a “Mostly Positive” rating across reviews in all languages. Once you filter for the Simplified Chinese reviews, the Metroidvania-style game plummets to “Mostly Negative.”

There are plenty of complaints about Silksong being too hard and not rewarding enough, but the translation issues are a common theme across the reviews for Simplified Chinese. In the reviews and comments, players compared the translations to a jarring mix of ancient and modern Chinese. Tiger Tang, who worked on the Simplified Chinese translation of an indie RPG called OMORI, posted on X that the “translation reads like a Wuxia novel instead of conveying the game’s tone,” referencing the literary genre that features martial arts and is often set in ancient China.

The good news is that the team behind Silksong is aware of the translation issues, as indicated by Matthew Griffin, who handles the game’s marketing and publishing. Griffin posted on X that the team is aware of “quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation” and that they are “working to improve the translation over the coming weeks.” When looking at the original Hollow Knight, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, even when looking at the Simplified Chinese reviews. However, Silksong credits a team of two for its Chinese localization, while the original featured six.

Roblox Will Age-Verify All Players Who Use Voice Chat By End Of Year

by admin September 8, 2025

Roblox developers announced plans to introduce comprehensive age verification for all players who wish to communicate in-game. The verification will use “a combination of facial age estimation technology, ID age verification, and verified parental consent.”

Roblox detailed the upcoming changes in a statement from chief safety officer Matt Kaufman, which it published on its website. In the statement, Kaufman claims the new methods will provide a more accurate age estimate than user input alone.

Once these system are in place, Roblox has promised to introduce more safety tools to prevent children from playing with adults who they don’t know in real life. The announcement touts that Roblox has introduced over 100 safety tools to the platform since January 2025, including an open source AI system called “Roblox Sentinel” that’s meant to detect early signs of child endangerment.

The announcement does not outline a more specific timetable for these changes or address any privacy concerns players may have.

“We hope this move sets a standard that other gaming, social media, and communication platforms follow,” the statement reads.

The change will make Roblox compliant with the UK’s Online Safety Act, which passed in early August.

These changes come after Roblox has come under legislative scrutiny. After a 2024 report from Bloomberg exposed a pedophile problem on the platform, Congressman Ro Khanna promoted a petition in August to demand that Roblox do more to prevent child abuse.

In March, Roblox CEO and co-founder David Baszucki responded to the allegations, saying, “My first message would be, if you’re not comfortable, don’t let your kids be on Roblox,” which prompted criticism from parents.

Hollow Knight: Silksong already surpasses half a million concurrent players on Steam

by admin September 6, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has already surpassed half a million concurrent players on Steam mere hours after its launch.

After years of hype, Team Cherry’s bug-filled Metroidvania finally released yesterday. On Steam, Silksong was the most wishlisted game on the charts and that’s now converted to a huge number of players.

At the time of writing, Silksong has an all-time peak of 535,213 players. That’s already the eighteenth highest all-time peak of concurrent players ever, beaten only by Monster Hunter Wilds in terms of games released this year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – Release TrailerWatch on YouTube

And that player count will only increase over the weekend once more players download the game and get stuck in.

What’s more, this is just Steam. Silksong is also available across both Switch consoles, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as on Xbox Game Pass, so there are plenty more people playing the game across all platforms.

Yesterday, the surge of players downloading Silksong immediately caused server chaos across almost every platform.

It’s clear Silksong is proving to be an exceedingly popular release – but does it live up to the hype? We’ll have a full review in the near future.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Update Reduces File Size, Causes Problems For Players

by admin September 6, 2025

File optimization for large games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 sounds like good idea, especially when more space is needed on consoles. The latest Black Ops 6 update went live this week and it appears to have significantly shrunk the file size. It’s also caused issues with some players and seemingly deleted the game from their systems.

A member of GameSpot’s staff shared screenshots that demonstrated a drop from 222.1 GB before the update to 122.8 GB afterwards.

On top is the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 file size before the update, and the new file size is shown below.

However, there are multiple reports from players on Reddit that the update deleted Black Ops 6 from their consoles. The update apparently removed Black Ops 6’s core installation and left behind the Call of Duty HQ launcher, which takes up a lot less space. Black Ops 6 can still be reinstalled alongside download content packs and the multiplayer suite. But given the large amount of added content purchased and downloaded by players since the game’s debut, the amount of file size reduction might vary from player to player.

PlayStation 5 players: with today’s Call of Duty update, you need to go to Mange Installs and re-install Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Pack.
The pack is 98GB download, but will only take up 27GB on the console after install. pic.twitter.com/VRA2IBeZcl

— CharlieIntel (@charlieINTEL) September 4, 2025

The Version 1.080 update also includes aspects that may be more well-received, including bug fixes, balancing tweaks, a new multiplayer map, and more modes like Reckoning Directed for zombies.

Some fans were recently upset to learn that the Carry Forward option for weapon and operator skins purchased in Black Ops 6 won’t be carried over to Black Ops 7. And the life cycle for Black Ops 6 is winding down now that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on November 14 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Hollow Knight: Silksong surpasses half a million concurrent players following launch

by admin September 5, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached over half a million concurrent players a day after its release on September 4, 2025.

That’s according to SteamDB, which recorded a peak of 535,213 players for Silksong on the platform.

Team Cherry’s long-awaited title also made it into the Top 20 biggest Steam games ever by concurrent count.

This happened during and after Silksong’s release crashed global digital storefronts across Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.

Its popularity resulted in Nintendo taking its store completely offline, and users attempting to purchase the title on Steam were being met with error messages.

Silksong is Steam’s most sought-after game of the year so far, appearing on 4.8 million wishlists.

The game’s predecessor, Hollow Knight, hit a new peak of over 71,000 concurrent players on Steam in the run up to Silksong’s release.

The 2017 game has already beaten that peak, having now almost reached 73,000 players.

Hollow Knight: Silksong kills it on its launch day on Steam with over half-a-million concurrent players

by admin September 5, 2025

There was really no chance Hollow Knight: Silksong wasn’t going to be a major hit for Team Cherry; the only question was how much of a hit it was going to be. We no longer need to guess, because the game is out and everyone seems to be onboard.

Silksong has officially become one of Steam’s biggest releases of 2025, and certainly one of the most significant launches for any indie game.

Quickly after Silksong went live last night on Steam, it started shooting up Steam’s Most Played chart, overtaking heavy-hitters like Path of Exile 2 (which, incidentally, just had a major update that boosted its spot), and perennial multiplayer titles like PUBG.

Silksong had no trouble landing into the top five – and staying there. Even at the time of this writing, the game occupies the number three spot, just below DOTA 2, and Counter-Strike 2 with over 317,000 in-game.

Its peak concurrent was a staggering 535,213 players (via SteamDB), which it managed to achieve around 14 hours ago. Silksong is also, of course, Steam’s current number one top-seller, with the game and soundtrack bundle at number two. It is especially impressive that it only spent one week in the top 100, no doubt the result of its gamescom revival and subsequent release date news.

Watch on YouTube

The original Hollow Knight even saw a boost off the back of that reemergence, beating its own all-time Steam concurrent player record just two days ago, as many booted up (and bought) the game in anticipation of the expansion-turned-sequel

And, just like how beloved that game was, it seems Silksong is getting the same level of love from players. As it stands, Silksong has an Overwhelmingly Positive Steam user review rating, based on nearly 16,000 reviews.

All that time spent in development has also seemingly resulted in a polished game, because there’s barely any mention of bugs or any other technical problems. Given this incredible momentum, it’s possible the weekend will boost Silksong’s numbers even further.

Silksong Hits Half A Million Players On Steam

by admin September 5, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong may have crashed Steam, PSN, and the Switch eStore with its launch, but that doesn’t seem to have hurt its success any once they all crawled back online. Team Cherry’s enormously anticipated Metroidvania sequel has just reached over half a million concurrent players on Steam alone. That’s a figure that doesn’t include Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch numbers, nor indeed PC players who bought the game on GOG or elsewhere, or who are playing it via Game Pass. It’s fair to say things are going pretty well.

At around 10.30 ET this morning, September 4, Kotaku team members began dropping Silksong‘s concurrent player numbers as compiled by SteamDB into the Slack. 156,271 was the first big number to astonish us. The original Hollow Knight‘s all-time peak was 72,916, and even that was set only yesterday. On release in 2017, it was lucky to see just a thousand, its popularity building up to a big August 2018 spike of 10,000 concurrent players. It took until May 2022 to find 20,000, and only hit those numbers again last month after the announcement of the release date for the long-delayed sequel. I explain all this because it’s fairly important context when looking at the hundreds of thousands who have shown up for Silksong.

By 12.30 today, that number had reached 245,587, and it seemed like it might be time to write about hitting a quarter of a million. But the number kept going up. At 1 p.m. it was 382,195, and just six minutes later had risen to over 400,000. At 1.30, 478k, and then at 2 p.m. it reached a ridiculous 534,450. That makes it the game with the 18th highest number of concurrent players on Steam, ever. It just beat the hugely popular Battlefield 6 beta weekend into 19th. That, let’s not forget, was a free weekend with a multiplayer game—this is a 2D single-player platformer.

Of course, a large part of Silksong‘s launch day success is the extraordinary build-up and anticipation it’s received. Absent from industry showcases for years on end, its potential audience became almost cult-like as it endured the long stretch of silence. The original Hollow Knight was much more of a sleeper hit, slowly building its audience and reputation, hence lacking any headline spike at any point over the last eight years. It’ll be interesting to see how long Silksong can maintain this momentum, as people get over the sense of disbelief that it actually really exists and is finally here. The number has started dropping for the first time all day as I’ve written this, just by five thousand or so, but it suggests it’s calming down for the moment. Of course, this could start climbing again once the U.S. workforce that didn’t book the day off are released home to reach their computers and consoles.

In the meantime, it strongly suggests that Team Cherry were very wise to pick the price point that surprised so many. Yes, the game could absolutely have sold incredibly well at $60, based on reputation alone, but going for $20 vastly increases the potential audience who will pay right now, rather than waiting six months for a 90 percent off Steam sale. Given the half a million people simultaneously playing on Steam likely only represents a fraction of those who will have bought the game today, this will be a massive financial success. And we’re just talking about today’s sales.

Whether the game’s actually good or not? That, rather intriguingly, is something everyone’s finding out simultaneously today, given no review code was supplied to press. The lines who played a brief demo at Gamescom had an inkling, but it’ll be tomorrow before consensus begins to appear.

‘PLEASE DON’T NERF COYOTE’: The new Helldivers 2 warbond has a fire-breathing rifle so good that players are begging Arrowhead to leave it alone

by admin September 5, 2025

While the metroidvania inclined celebrate the release of a long-awaited bug game, Helldivers 2’s stalwart protectors of freedom are hard at work ensuring no bugs will know another day of peace. This week, the Into the Unjust update kicked off a new offensive into Terminid strongholds, a directive that’s proving tougher than expected.

A new “Rupture” class of Terminid, recognizable by its red armor plating and burrowing technique, is wreaking havoc on reinforcements. While players have identified effective weapons to counter the novel threat, it’s no coincidence that the latest premium warbond, Dust Devils, is packing what might be the ultimate anti-Terminid primary: the AR-2 Coyote.

The most active corner of the Helldivers 2 community has already anointed the Coyote to gun royalty, singing its praises against bugs and preemptively begging Arrowhead not to nerf it.

Related articles

It’s really a thing of beauty: With a rounded profile, long barrel, and curved magazine, the Coyote is undoubtedly meant to evoke an AK-47. Its baseline stats aren’t extraordinary for its weapon class, but its numbers don’t really communicate why it kicks carapace.

The Coyote’s main draw is its incendiary ammunition, a first for non-laser assault rifles. As fire is comfortably the best status effect in terms of raw damage (and especially good for bugs), the Coyote flashes its teeth by unleashing a 45-round magazine into a wave of advancing bugs, killing most on contact and setting the rest on fire to die seconds later. I didn’t even mention that it has medium penetration, making it one of just four assault rifles that can punch through the Rupture strain’s armor.

I don’t wish to be dramatic. from r/Helldivers

When you look at the AR-2 Coyote in detail, it’s as if Arrowhead was trying to design the last Terminid gun you’ll ever need:

  • High damage: Base damage is weaker than other medium-pen ARs, but the fire damage adds big
  • Medium penetration: so it rips through anything smaller than a Charger
  • Fire ammo: You can literally fire one bullet at a bug, then watch it die from fire in seconds
  • Large magazine: A 45-round magazine (without any upgrades) means you can shoot everything chasing you before a reload is necessary
  • Easy recoil control: The Coyote kicks harder than a Liberator, mind you, but its recoil pattern is a steady vertical climb that’s easy to compensate for. Also, it has unlockable grips.

It’s the sort of gun that just feels comfortable and fun as soon as you use it, which is what you want when spending $10 on a warbond. Nerfs wouldn’t surprise me, but a post from redditor RandomGreenArcherMan offers sharp points that toss cold water on the Coyote’s dominance: its lower base damage means it kills some enemies slower than a Liberator, burning doesn’t tend to matter against smaller enemies that die in one bullet anyway, and it doesn’t have access to 60 or 80-round magazine upgrades.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Plus, ArcherMan reckons it’s not great against Automatons, who aren’t as easy to burn and reward precision headshots. That’s not to suggest the Coyote isn’t a sterling product of Super Earth engineering, just that it’s currently being deployed in its ideal warzone: bugs with medium armor.

Fighting game players in uproar after Evo’s new Saudi government owners, calls to support grassroots events

by admin September 3, 2025

Fighting game players are up in arms following news that RTS – a gaming talent agency and owner of the Evo tournament series – has been acquired by the Saudi Arabian mega city project Qiddiya.

This news came yesterday afternoon via an official statement by CSO at Qiddiya Muhannad Aldawood, who wrote on Linkedin: “Excited to share that Qiddiya has acquired full ownership of RTS, a strategic step that will further strengthen our esports business and unlock new opportunities across the broader gaming ecosystem. And most importantly, this will enable Qiddiya to keep fueling the continued growth of Evolution Championship Series (EVO), the world’s largest fighting game event since 1996, with unlimited [potential].”

The response online from fighting game community members was largely one of disappointment, as various fans of the genre came out to express sadness at the new owners and emphasised the importance of supporting grassroots community-run events. Saudi Arabia has been criticised by Human Rights organisations for its prolific use of slavery, the death penalty, and more.

Here’s the recent Sagat trailer for Street Fighter 6Watch on YouTube

Professional Street Fighter 6 player ChrisCCH, who previously refused a place at the Saudi-owned Esports World Cup, wrote on X: “Not terribly surprising, but still unfortunate news. Sad for the LGBTQ+ members of the community, and also worried about the scene becoming increasingly funded by money that will disappear as soon as the funders get bored.”

Sajam, a popular commentator and content creator within the fighting game space, stated: “I think the news personally just makes me want to think about more ways to create cool stuff for the rest of our community. It feels like the pieces that belong to fighting game fans are shrinking all the time.”

With a general distaste around Evo following the news, some have looked to other American alternative events to attend, including CEO. One user on X Roycebracket summed up their thoughts with: “CEO is about to become the real evo” while LandedIt took a more humorous approach, writing: “Glory to Alex Jebailey ceo 2026 4 jebaillion entrants”.

In response to the news, Evo general manager Rick Thiher posted his own statement: “Everything I have worked on in fighting games has been with the ambition of bringing our communities together. Inclusivity, community, and connectivity matter to me. It’s deeply personal that they remain part of what I work on and that the future of Evo respects that.”

Whether or not this uproar on social media actually manifests into a material impact on the future of Evo remains a question mark: there’s a big difference between expressing displeasure on Twitter and taking actual action.

Final Fantasy 14’s Naoki Yoshida wants players to stop sending developers demoralising abuse

by admin September 3, 2025

Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida has asked players to stop sending harsh, non-constructive criticism to developers as it can be demoralising.

Yoshida discussed the topic of dealing with feedback at a panel during PAX West last week. The MMORPG’s community is known for being particularly vocal, while Yoshida himself is in frequent dialogue through the Letter from the Producer streams and Fan Fest events.

Yoshida first noted players and developers are “in the same community” due to their love of games. “Whenever there are comments being directed towards us, I try to understand where they’re coming from, what they’re trying to tell us,” he said.

FINAL FANTASY XIV x MONSTER HUNTER WILDS Collaboration TeaserWatch on YouTube

He continued: “Positive feedback is great and it’s a great motivator to aim to continue making those players happy.

“We see gamers as allies or friends…I want to continue that mutual understanding.”

Yoshida then specifically addressed negative feedback.

“I want to emphasise here, there is a person behind the games,” he said. “While I understand some harsh criticism might be necessary sometimes, there’s a person behind the games that you enjoy and if you have that harsh criticism, I think we would want to have it be constructive.

“Some players I know want to express their frustrations, but I think very harsh words will sometimes hurt developers very deeply. I think this applies for any creator in the video game industry. And some of the harsh words that were thrown at some of them, it could potentially demoralise them so much that they don’t want to make video games anymore. And in the end we – as in the gamers – would miss out on good work that these people could potentially have made just because people have thrown these very harsh words and non-constructive criticism at those people. It just becomes such a negative environment.

He concluded: “So whenever you are drafting your post before you hit enter you might want to reconsider.”

While Yoshida didn’t specify any particular experience here, he has previously discussed transphobic criticism sent to Wuk Lamat voice actor Sena Bryer following the release of the Dawntrail expansion.

Really, though, Yoshida’s words apply to all game developers. While players are often passionate about their favourite games, sending abuse is never a valid response.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
