EA FC 26 devs respond as “we could not activate” error leaves players furious

by admin September 18, 2025

EA FC 26 is officially live, with many players jumping in early using the New Zealand trick or through EA Play. However, fans using the latter method are running into an error that’s halting their progress.

Subscribers to EA Play or EA Pro were granted early access to the game, allowing them to start the Ultimate Team grind ahead of time. If you have a membership, regardless of platform, you could get in from midnight in New Zealand, which equates to 5 AM PT or 1 PM BST.

But for thousands of PC players who hoped to get a headstart, the fun was cut short by an error, reading: “We could not activate EA SPORTS FC 26 EA Play Pro Edition on this computer using the EA account you provided.”

“We could not activate EA SPORTS FC 26” error leaves fans unable to play

At the time of writing, there is no workaround, leaving PC players completely unable to launch the new game. The devs have responded to the issue, suggesting that a fix shouldn’t be too far away.

“We are investigating reports that some players are unable to launch the FC 26 EA Play and EA Play Pro trials on PC and are actively investigating,” they said in an X post.

This isn’t enough for some players, though, who pointed out that early access was one of the main benefits of being an EA Play subscriber. Given that every minute the game is unavailable draws them closer to the midnight release of the Ultimate Edition for non-members, some are even demanding compensation.

“You should refund people who bought it…” said one reply.

“The least you could do is fix it immediately and offer compensation,” added another.

The good news is that EA SPORTS are aware of the issue and is working on a solution, so if you’re running into this error, you should have access very soon.

In the meantime, you can head over to our EA FC 26 wiki a ton of useful guides to help you start strong in this year’s Ultimate Team.

Skate Passes 2 Million Players As Dev Fixes A Major Issue

by admin September 18, 2025

A lot of people have played EA’s new Skate game since it launched on September 16. How many? According to the developers, the new Skate–the first in 15 years–reached more than 2 million players in its first 24 hours.

“Beyond stoked”

“We’re beyond stoked to welcome everyone to San Vansterdam! Thanks for your patience as we flex our servers to keep up with all the hype. Keep riding and we’ll see you out there!” the developer said.

Skate is a free-to-play game that’s available in early access across PC and console (and coming to iOS and Android later). There is no Switch 2 version.

While the game is free, EA is selling a Founder’s Pack ($25) and a Founder’s Pack Deluxe ($50) that include a variety of extras. Some early-access games raise prices when they reach 1.0, but when Skate’s 1.0 release comes in about a year, the game will remain free, EA has said.

Major issue fixed

Beyond the launch-day server struggles for Skate, one of the issues that players called out was a “soft lock” bug that prevented players from progressing beyond certain parts in the game. Many people were impacted by this issue, and developer Full Circle has now addressed it.

If you’re just getting started with the new Skate, check out the gallery below that covers a few things you need to know before dropping in.

Battlefield 6 players on PS5 and Xbox can block PC users from crossplay, as studio takes "cheating extremely seriously

Battlefield 6 players on PS5 and Xbox can block PC users from crossplay, as studio takes “cheating extremely seriously

by admin September 17, 2025

Battlefield 6 will include console-only crossplay, meaning Xbox and PlayStation players can avoid those pesky cheating PC players.

Senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson detailed to IGN the online shooter’s crossplay options, activated with a simple on/off toggle. Turned on, console players will be prioritised before PC players fill a lobby. Turned off, and only console players will be included across both PlayStation and Xbox. The option is turned on by default.

“We’re very confident but also very keen to what crossplay means for Battlefield 6,” said Nickerson. “We’ve gone the extra mile and put in a lot of effort in terms of balancing the inputs, understanding where the inputs lie [not just] in terms of relationship to general play styles but general performance of what they’re good at and maybe what they lack.”

Battlefield 6 Official Reveal TrailerWatch on YouTube

Cheating is a major issue across online shooters, with PC players being the most likely to cheat. That’s why console players often prefer to exclude them, if possible.

Technical director Christian Buhl said Battlefield Studios is “taking cheating extremely seriously”.

“Obviously, cheating is much more prevalent on PC than on console, but we are taking a lot of effort, putting a lot of work into prioritising fighting against cheaters,” he said. “We’ve turned on secure boot. We’ve got Javelin, our new anti-cheat system, which is required in order to play.

“So, we’re doing a lot on the PC side to clamp down on cheating as much as possible. We have a whole team within Battlefield dedicated to anti-cheat, which includes engineers, analysts who are reviewing things and banning players, and figuring out what the latest cheats are. We have another whole dedicated team at EA to anti-cheat that we work closely with. That’s what I can say. Now, we can never win against cheaters, right? Cheaters will always be there. It’s a never-ending cat-and-mouse game. I can’t promise that there will be zero cheaters if you’re playing against PC players. That’s just simply not possible, but I can say that we are being extremely aggressive. We see this as critical to the success of – to the health of – the game.”

Console players also use aim assist to balance play with PC players using mouse and keyboard for increased accuracy. But aim assist has been “completely redone” from Battlefield 2042, said Nickerson.

“We’ve added aim assist for what we call our ‘combat triangle’ now – and that’s infantry versus infantry, infantry versus vehicles, and vehicles versus vehicles – to give that cohesive experience if you are on controller, compared to, maybe, something that’s a little bit easier on keyboard and mouse. So [we’re] very dedicated to crossplay, and we’re trying to nail it across multiple vectors when it comes to crossplay. It’s just such an important aspect for us and for Battlefield 6.”

It’s all part of the studio’s console-first approach. It’s this that’s led to strong optimisation across consoles.

Buhl explained to Kotaku the team struggled to get the game running on Xbox Series S due to its lack of memory, with levels crashing. As a result, the team has optimised memory usage in the game which has in turn made the “whole game better and more stable”.

Battlefield 6 will release on 10th October across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Just don’t expect a Switch 2 release any time soon.

Destiny 2’s latest game-breaking bug: Players can no longer respawn in solo activities… Like, at all

by admin September 16, 2025

This afternoon my Destiny 2 clanmate texted me to say: “If you die in Solo Ops or Patrol you can no longer respawn 😂”. That can’t be right, I thought. That would be such a fundamental bug that it would effectively break the game. Anyway, I loaded in, did some testing, and you can probably guess where this is going.

We are investigating an issue where players are unable to respawn in Solo Ops activities after dying. We are attempting to solve this issue as soon as we’re able. More information will be provided when available.September 16, 2025

From my own experience, once you die the respawn button will appear after the usual countdown, but cannot be interacted with. In order to start playing again you either need to go to orbit (ie, leave the activity) or switch characters. Which is as big a problem as it sounds. The bug even seems to extend to Patrol zones, although I was occasionally able to self-revive.

Quite how long it will take to fix is anyone’s guess, but as you can tell by the tone of Bungie’s tweet, this is a four alarm fire. You cannot have players trying to complete every solo activity in the game on a single life. I would love to tell you I’m surprised that a bug of this size has made it into the live game, but as we’ve been writing about recently, Destiny 2 is currently in a parlous state, both in terms of its biblical-sized swarm of bugs and player sentiment towards the systemic changes introduced with the Edge of Fate expansion.

Related articles

Only this morning, I woke up to find a message from a different clanmate about a bug, this time involving a legendary sword that is one-shotting some of the hardest enemies in the game. The only criteria is you need to have no ammo and jump as you light attack with the sword.

See below:

The Most Broken Bug EVER Goldtusk IS BUSTED! No Ammo INSANE DPS One Shot BOSSES – Destiny 2 – YouTube

Watch On

Meanwhile, the exotic hand cannon Sturm is still giving players a +380% damage buff to all outgoing ability damage. Needless to say that is very much not intended. So far, Bungie has disabled the hand cannon in the Trials of Osiris PvP mode, but let the bug slide in PvE. That’s probably because, with the community in near-constant tumult, the studio would rather not be accused of being the fun police.

Perhaps painting itself into a corner, on a recent Bungie livestream the developers said they were pausing any non-critical balance fixes, although Sturm surely qualifies as the kind of critical bug that will have to be fixed sooner rather than later.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Anyway, here’s how you can take advantage of it for now:

This Game Breaking “Build” DELETES Bosses! Destiny 2 – YouTube

Watch On

And whilst those bugs might sound fun, they are merely the wacky cherries on top of an otherwise fetid cake. Pay a visit to Bungie’s ‘Known Issues’ page for the Edge of Fate and you will find the Magna Carta of bug lists. Here are some random highlights:

  • Players can sometimes be killed immediately upon respawning in the Nightmare of Gahlran Pinnacle Op.
  • A number of Strikes are not completing properly after the final boss has been defeated.
  • Focusing engrams at a Vendor can cause the reward to drop at a lower Power level than what was displayed.

On and on it goes, so much so that I can only feel sorry for Destiny 2’s embattled community team, which forms the frontline when it comes to dealing with players’ understandable fury. No wonder they sound downbeat today:

It sucks that we’ve been unable to build positive momentum. Too many bumps in the road and missteps.I truly believe we are beginning to shift and head in the right direction.Roadmap to come, and I hope it helps us to rebuild trust as we move towards Renegades and beyond.… https://t.co/qpO0YAaorWSeptember 16, 2025

Still, at least Bungie has seen sense about the recent armor controversy and effectively given players the chance to earn what would have been a paid set of armor as an in-game reward instead. Although honestly the fact I’m giving credit for that is probably a form of Stockholm Syndrome at this point.

MindsEye actor feared he may never work in games again following disastrous launch, but admits players are entitled to their opinion

by admin September 16, 2025

Alex Hernandez, the actor behind MindsEye protagonist Jacob Diaz, feared he may never work again following the game’s disastrous reception.

Build A Rocket Boy’s game launched to major criticism due to its glitches and bugs, not to mention shallow gameplay. Yet with his face on the game’s cover art, Hernandez is intrinsically linked to the game.

“It’s a difficult thing to spend two-and-a-half years on a project that you’re really proud of and you’re proud of your contribution to it,” said Hernandez on the latest FRVR Podcast. “And I only had positive experiences working on it. The people I was working with, I was proud for them, of them, I wanted it to be a success for them just as much for myself.”

MindsEye Review – Ridiculous, Inconsistent And Utterly AtrociousWatch on YouTube

He continued: “Just the response… I was like, ‘I might never work in a game again’. Because one of the caveats of being the face on the box is that people, rightly or wrongly, will associate all of their opinions and, more importantly their emotions, about this game with my face,” he said.

Still, Hernandez admits players are entitled to their opinions on the game, despite being on the receiving end of extreme vitriol.

“Gamers are a unique species, and I am one of them, where the attachment to the experience and the product is so strong, the feelings are so strong,” he said, “and the internet is an anonymous place where people will share things they would never share to your face, ever, even if they actually hated it… they just wouldn’t look you in the face and say, ‘everyone who worked on this game deserved to die. This is f**king awful, these guys are idiots’. No one would ever say that to your face. And, I think, at the same time, you’re entitled to that.”

Previously, Hernandez provided the voice and likeness for Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3, another game with a poor reception at launch.

“I’m not a superstitious man, but I can’t help but have some kind of Spidey Sense, like, ‘Is it just me?’ Do I have like the opposite of the golden touch, like the sh*t-brown touch, everything I touch turns to poop?” he joked.

Build A Rocket Boy has continued to update the game since, and promised it’s “committed” to enhancing the gameplay experience.

Still, the disastrous launch has put the future of publisher IOI Partners into question. “So, IO Interactive will publish our own games internally,” said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak. “IOI Partners? That remains to be seen.”

“Although it shows some early promise, MindsEye is sunk by a ridiculous story, inconsistent writing, poorly designed mission scenarios, and utterly atrocious combat,” reads our MindsEye review.

Is 128 players too much for a multiplayer FPS? Yes, says Battlefield 6

by admin September 16, 2025

Battlefield 2042 supported 128 player matches at launch in 2021. Battlefield 6 will support 64 player matches, when it launches on 10th October this year. Some mistake here, surely? Battlefield 6 is a sequel to Battlefield 2042, and sequels are supposed to have More. If I have just given voice to your innermost thoughts, then I fear it is time to bamboozle and horrify you with the nightmare-physics of the arcane game design proverb, “sometimes, less is more”.

“But how can this be?” you shriek, as the ground crumbles and the walls peel away. Matter cannot increase and decrease simultaneously! A “+1” cannot be a “-1”! You reach for the whiskey bottle in a frenzy, but it is too late to unlearn this awful knowledge. Anyway, stop screaming so I can treat you to another morsel of insight from Battlefield 6 design director Shashank Uchil. I promise this one won’t hurt quite as much.

“We thought larger player numbers would work – it just didn’t catch on,” Uchil said to Edge Magazine in recent reflections about Battlefield 2042’s higher headcount, as passed along by the magazine’s jovial e-buddies at Gamesradar.

“It’s like when a band tries a new sound,” Uchil continued. “Because we like it, but then players don’t – and in the end, we are subservient to the players. We do what the players want.” I feel “subservient” is perhaps a bit much, Mr Uchil. Please do not encourage your players to think that they’re pharaohs. How many pyramids did the pharaohs build, all by themselves? Exactly.

As digested by GR, Uchil added that “Battlefield players are very vocal” and will “tell you what they want” as regards the new shooter. Definite deer-in-headlight vibes. The devs “all read the Reddit,” Uchil added, because it’s “the number-one source, and all of us are on there.” All of which continues the well-established EA marketing theme of trying to get 2042 haters on-board with Battlefield 6, which is designed to evoke the better moments of Battlefield 3.

I like thinking about how many players is too much in first-person shooters. The question of player count is obviously part of a larger set of questions about map design and size, mode design, weapon balancing, and so forth. Generally speaking, when I’m pinned down by a bombardment in a Battlefield game, it absolutely feels like there are 127 other players out there, because those artillery impacts are so very loud.

By contrast, I remember playing Resistance 2 on PlayStation 3, which boasted then-mindblowing 60 player headcounts, and finding that the flagship multiplayer mode’s objective structure had the effect of making it feel like a bunch of asynchronous deathmatches. We’d pass queues of enemy players hurrying in the other direction and just sort of wave acknowledgement, like passing bus drivers.

Back in 2021, Ed Thorn (RPS in peace) had similar thoughts about Battlefield 2042. He found that it rarely felt like a 128-player game at all. “I’m not sure I notice the bump in bodies,” Ed wrote in his review. “Sure, things are chaotic, but the maps are so vast to make up for it that the pockets of violence remain similar to previous, smaller entries in the series.”

The obvious tentpole game to invoke here is Planetside 2, proudest of the surviving MMO shooters. I had a go at unravelling PlanetSide 2’s accomplishment in January 2024. Amongst other things, I argued that the vast periphery of each emergent battle makes for a surprisingly good walking simulator. But enough of my wittering. How many players do you consider too many players, inasmuch as such things can be interpreted out of context?

Gearbox tries to prove to Borderlands 4 players that the game is optimised, actually, but just shows it’s a load of Claptrap

by admin September 15, 2025

Borderlands 4 is getting lambasted everywhere online for just how poorly it performs for many players on PC. It’s all anyone is talking about in the game’s Steam reviews and elsewhere.

The debacle has certainly given the game a certain image, and developer Gearbox clearly isn’t happy with this current state of affairs. Unfortunately, the developer has decided to respond to the complaints in a strange way that ends up actually undermining its point.

The saga of Borderlands 4’s performance troubles on PC is a very common one. It’s a modern AAA game that performs worse than you expect it to given the hardware it’s running on. In this case, too, the visuals aren’t impressive enough to warrant how heavy the game is.

Borderlands 4 also runs on Unreal Engine 5, which has itself become something of a punching bag. Anytime a game that uses it runs into technical issues, players are quick to blame the engine. Add Denuvo DRM to the mix and the game really has the full package.

Gearbox’s solution to all that negative feedback – which includes many hours of content from top tech YouTubers – was to release ideal settings for some of the most popular Nvidia and AMD GPUs on the market, which it suggests players use.

There are two massive guides – one for each GPU brand – that list every single in-game setting, and the recommended value for each for 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. It’s a bit of an overkill, considering the initial settings released for Borderlands 4 ahead of its launch were nowhere near as detailed. These updated guides, on the other hand, offer framerate targets, resolution, and whether or not upscaling is required to achieve each one.

Unfortunately, as detailed as they may be, the two lists only serve to prove players’ points that Borderlands 4 simply isn’t optimised well enough to take advantage of the hardware it’s running on. The reason is that upscaling is required for almost every single one.

In fact, for most of the higher-end GPUs, achieving a framerate beyond 60fps requires frame generation, which the two guides clearly state. Frame generation, if you’re unfamiliar, is similar to motion smoothing, in that it interpolates the frame buffer to add more virtual frames, increasing input lag.

Frame generation is also generally recommended for players who can already reach above 60fps comfortably, as its drawbacks become much more serious when your hardware/settings combination can’t reliably achieve 60fps without it.

The guides only really serve to shift the blame onto players, who are clearly advised to temper their expectations (and their settings), not to mention rely on frame generation to achieve acceptable results regardless of how powerful their GPUs are.

Steal A Brainrot smashes records with nearly 24 million players across Roblox and Fortnite

by admin September 14, 2025

Steal A Brainrot just pulled nearly 24 million players in one day across Roblox and Fortnite, eclipsing other community made games on the platforms.

Steal A Brainrot is the latest viral hit to sweep through both Roblox and Fortnite, combining chaotic party-style gameplay with meme-driven humor. First created as a Roblox experience earlier in 2025, the popular tycoon and simulator game tasks players to collect and generate income from “Brainrot” characters.

The game’s momentum only grew when a Fortnite Creative version was released, bringing the same concept into Epic’s ecosystem of player-made content. By spanning two of the biggest free-to-play platforms, Steal A Brainrot tapped into massive built-in communities. The dual launch allowed the title to thrive in both Roblox’s social hubs and Fortnite’s competitive arenas.

Steal a Brainrot reaches tens of millions in one day

That reach paid off on September 14, when Steal A Brainrot hit new all-time highs across both platforms. The Roblox version peaked at 23.4 million players in a single day, while the Fortnite edition contributed to a concurrent total of 542,000 users.

Article continues after ad

Those figures place it in the same league as Epic’s official game modes, Fortnite Battle Royale and Zero Build, which regularly chart around 100,000 players during peak weekend play. However, Steal The Brainrot has now surpassed two of Epic Games’ staple game modes, Blitz Royale and Reload Ranked, in all time high player count.

The achievement highlights just how far community-built games can go when they strike the right cultural chord. By turning a meme into a fully playable experience across two platforms, Steal A Brainrot has become one of 2025’s breakout hits, and if momentum holds, another record-setting weekend may be in the cards.

Crypto Games Keep Shutting Down. This $500K Fund Aims to Help Players Recover

by admin September 14, 2025

In brief

  • The Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund has been set up to offer players of shuttered crypto games assets for Splinterlands.
  • A total of $500,000 worth of tokens and in-game assets are available, spread out over seven years.
  • The Splinterlands team hopes to welcome additional contributors to offer up game assets to affected players.

Blockchain games are shutting down in droves so far this year, as hype and funding fade and crypto investors turn their attention elsewhere. But one long-running crypto game hopes to draw some of those players affected by shutdowns by offering free NFT assets for affected users.

Crypto trading card game Splinterlands is inviting the players of failed blockchain games to apply to its newly formed recovery fund, in which $500,000 worth of crypto tokens and in-game assets can be unlocked over the next seven years.

The project told Decrypt that it is currently in talks with other projects based on the Hive blockchain to allocate assets to the fund—and invites the broader industry to join in to save crypto gaming by giving burned users a bridge to new games.

The Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund is already expanding. If you were impacted by one of these games and want to start a path to recovery in Splinterlands, submit a claim and we’d love to welcome you to the family! Link below: pic.twitter.com/jvAnq4JdoT

— SPSDAO (@TheSPSDAO) August 27, 2025

Currently, only the players of the defunct crypto titles Pirate Nation, Tokyo Beast, and Walking Dead: Empires can access the Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund. Affected players must create a Splinterlands account, purchase a $10 item (which provides in-game credits of the same value), and submit their wallet address containing items from eligible games—which they get to keep.

Then they can start gradually unlocking assets over the next seven years from the $500,000 fund. The assets are released as long as the player remains active on Splinterlands, which is measured by a series of monthly challenges—such as playing five battles.

“I welcome any of our competitors who would want to be a part of this to come and join. Why would they want to? Because they want to see the space grow,” Dave McCoy, Chief Operating Officer at Splinterlands, told Decrypt. “We are just the first, but hopefully we have many other people join us.”

An epidemic of crypto games shutting down has struck the industry this year, with countless notable projects closing shop. That includes Deadrop, Ember Sword, Nyan Heroes, Realms of Alurya, Symbiogenesis, Raini: The Lords of Light, and MetalCore—just to name a few.

While all of these games have cited slightly different reasons behind their crashouts, one thing they all have in common is that they leave behind a player base with no game to play. And many of those players sunk cash into supporting the project, and are left with tokenized assets that no longer have utility.

“I’ve been in hundreds of communities over the years. […] When a project gets rugged, it’s a horrible feeling. Especially when you have high hopes for it,” Blaze, Splinterlands’ pseudonymous sales and marketing lead, told Decrypt. “We just put our foot down and said: Hey, enough is enough. Somebody has got to step up here and help these people who are getting crippled.”

The Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund is governed by a decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO, that votes on which games will be eligible for the fund. Each supported game has a specific portion of the fund that is allocated to it, although Splinterlands did not confirm the exact division per game.

In the first year, 2 million SPS tokens worth over $16,000—plus 5,000 Rebellion packs—are allocated to the fund. This scales up to 10 million SPS (currently about $82,000) and 25,000 packs by the seventh year. Rewards are then divided among the number of players that were active, meaning if only one person is active within a specific pot, then they will get everything, McCoy said.

“The design is for seven years, because we’ve been around for seven years,” McCoy explained. “So the point we’re trying to make is we’re going to be around seven more years, as well.”

Splinterlands is a strategic trading card game with NFT cards minted and tradeable on the Hive blockchain. It originally launched in 2018 as Steem Monsters—based on the Steem crypto social network—but was rebranded to Splinterlands in 2019 and has been steadily building ever since.

The game’s SPS governance token first debuted in July 2021 and quickly reached its peak of $1.07, according to CoinGecko. The token is now down 99%, however, valued at $0.008.

McCoy told Decrypt through the game’s lifespan, it has battled its way through “everything” that a crypto game can face. He explained that “it’s not easy to manage,” and suggested that other games haven’t survived so long because of unsustainable game models—with Blaze pointing to Pirate Nation’s $150,000 per month expenses.

Unfortunately, to McCoy, the wave of crypto game shutdowns is a necessary purge of the industry. But he hopes that the Crypto Gaming Recovery Fund is the first step to building the industry back up, potentially with more contributors alongside.

“Again, this isn’t about Splinterlands. This is about the whole industry,” McCoy told Decrypt. “If [any game] wants to be part of it, if they want to contribute, we would love to have them.”

Roblox hit with wrongful death lawsuit following a teen player’s suicide

by admin September 13, 2025

Following her son’s suicide, Becca Dallas filed a potentially groundbreaking lawsuit against Roblox and Discord, accusing the platforms of wrongful death. As first reported by The New York Times, the lawsuit recounts the events leading up to Ethan Dallas’ death, detailing his interactions with a player named Nate. According to the report, Nate was likely a 37-year-old man named Timothy O’Connor, who was previously arrested on charges of “possessing child pornography and transmitting harmful material to minors.” The report added that Ethan opened up about these incidents to his mom before committing suicide four months after the confession.

The lawsuit could be the first of its kind against Roblox, according to NYTimes, considering it attributes some blame to the gaming platform that’s home to tens of millions of underaged players. In a statement responding to the report, a Roblox spokesperson said that child safety issues are seen across the industry and that the company was working on new safety features, while also complying with law enforcement.

This isn’t the first time Roblox has faced complaints of being a dangerous place for underage players. In August, Louisiana’s attorney general, Liz Murrill, filed a lawsuit that claimed Roblox doesn’t “implement basic safety controls” to protect its underage user base. That lawsuit follows a similar investigation launched by Florida’s attorney general James Uthmeier, who demanded answers to the reports of Roblox reportedly exposing kids to “harmful content and bad actors.” Roblox has taken steps to combat these allegations, including tightening restrictions on its Experiences, and more recently, expanding its age estimation tool to all users.
