Forza Horizon 6 Takes Players To Japan Next Year

Forza Horizon 6 was the main headliner of Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast, which served as a fitting venue given that the next entry brings the Horizon Festival to Japan. 

Developer Playground Games released a short teaser trailer and is keeping gameplay details to a minimum; don’t expect to see Forza Horizon 6 in action until early next year, according to an Xbox Wire developer interview. In the meantime, the studio teases locations such as Tokyo and Mt. Fuji, as some of the recognizable spots players will race in and around. 

 

Although we don’t know what the vehicle roster looks like, expect Japanese car culture to play a prominent role in this entry. In Horizon tradition, seasonal weather changes will shake up the visuals while also affecting how players drive. 

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox Series X/S (including day one on Game Pass) and PC via Windows and Steam in 2026. The game will also be released on PlayStation 5 sometime post-launch. You can read our review of the series’ previous entry, 2021’s Forza Horizon 5, here.

EA Sports FC 26’s first patch is here with a nerf to Low Driven Shots, and a fix for that Manager Career bug that had players abandoning the team

The early access period of EA Sports FC 26 appears to be chugging along nicely, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any issues to address. The game’s first official patch, version 1.0.2, is now live with a host of changes.

The bulk of the changes in this update affect AI players, as well as Low Driven Shots. Interestingly, some of the tweaks address feedback made all the way back in the game’s closed beta.

Update 1.0.2’s biggest change is a nerf to Low Driven Shots, making them less accurate when shooting with extreme power. Difficult to perform Driven Ground Passes have also been made less accurate, such as those taken at 180 degrees.

There are also a number of changes to the AI, particularly when attacking and positioning. Wingers will now make attacking runs into the box more often, and Wing Backs will stop dropping too deep in their own half of the pitch when their team is in possession.

The patch fixed a bug that would sometimes cause AI players to not make runs into open spaces when they should, too, and improved their “offside awareness.” One of the more amusing bugs that the patch also fixed has to do with Manager Career players leaving the team during sims. Gameplay

  • Tuned Low Driven Shots based on your feedback in the Closed Beta to be less accurate when shooting with an extreme amount of power.
  • As part of our AI attacking updates based on your feedback, made the the following changes:
  • Increased frequency of wingers making attacking runs into the box.
  • Wing Backs will no longer drop too deep in their own half when their team is in possession.
  • Improved teammate offside awareness.
  • Addressed instances of players not making runs into open space when it could be beneficial.
  • Improved positioning of players when playing with low defensive depth so that they’re not pushing too high up the pitch.
  • Center Backs are now less likely to run wide when marking central attackers.
  • False Backs now transition more intelligently to defense to better maintain defensive shape.
  • A goalkeeper dive indicator now displays where an incoming shot is coming from.
  • Changed the Camera Pan input based on your feedback and to avoid button conflicts.
  • As shared on the EASFC Tracker, we’re continuing to work on Be A Goalkeeper updates to improve the gameplay experience. We’ll share more details in the near future.
  • Improved cases of unexpected heavy touches when sprinting in wet weather Authentic gameplay based on your feedback.
  • Improved instances of Ground Passes unexpectedly falling behind the intended receiver.
  • Tuned difficult to perform Driven Ground Passes to be less accurate, for example, first time Driven Ground Passes taken at 180 degrees.
  • Addressed incorrect shooting animations that sometimes occurred when attempting lace shots, resulting in unexpected behavior.

Ultimate Team

Addressed the following issues:

  • Players weren’t always able to enter multiplayer gameplay after accepting a Co-Op invite.
  • Player Item portraits were sometimes misaligned on the Squad screen.
  • A stability issue could have occurred after completing the Onboarding and viewing your Squad for the first time.

Career Mode

Addressed the following issue:

  • Players could’ve incorrectly left your club when simming through the calendar.

General audio and visual

Made the following changes:

  • Updated some star heads, kits, and placeholder text/images.

Addressed the following issues:

  • [PC Only] Adjusting display settings while in Borderless could have unintentionally resulted in performance loss.
  • [PC Only] Addressed a few instances of controllers not recognizing inputs. We will continue to investigate this and other reported PC issues and provide updates in the near future.
  • Addressed a number of stability issues that could have occurred.

FC 26 has been live for Ultimate Edition owners for several days now, but it officially goes live for everyone else tomorrow, or today if you’re on PC. Call Of Duty Still Has A ‘Shocking’ Amount Of Last Gen Players

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch this November. And, surprisingly, a decade after the PS4 and Xbox One’s launch, BLOPS 7 is still arriving day one on the aging machines. According to the devs making the next entry in Activision’s blockbuster franchise, the old consoles don’t force them to hold anything back, and Call of Duty is still played by a “shocking” amount of people on those platforms.

In a new interview with Dexerto, Treyarch’s senior director of production Yale Miller and associate design director Lawrence Metten addressed fan concerns that developing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 for the now 13-year-old PS4 and Xbox One was holding the game back and limiting what the studio could do on PC and current-gen hardware. According to them, that’s not the case at all.

“The way we’ve talked about it always is, you should never be thinking about old-gen for the features that you’re designing,”  Miller told the outlet.

Instead, the team builds the game for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and then makes it work on the older machines. This sometimes leads to features not making it onto PS4 and Xbox One, a disappointing decision for last-gen players, but one that the studio is willing to make.

“[Theater mode in Black Ops 6 was] something that we knew we wanted to do,” said Metten. “We can’t support it on old-gen. That’s not a reason not to do the feature. We’re gonna bite the bullet and disable it on old-gen.”

Why Call of Duty is still launching on PS4 in 2025

As to why Activision is still developing Call of Duty games for the decade-old machines, the answer is obvious but still surprising: In 2025, there are still a lot of people playing these games on older consoles. Miller didn’t share specific numbers, but told Dexerto there is a “shocking number of people” playing new Call of Duty games on PS4 and Xbox One, and this apparently helps with matchmaking, giving them more players to work with.

“It made sense for us to [bring Black Ops 7 to last gen], and we could,” said Miler. “There are straight-up, like, graphical features and things that you just won’t see, but we feel like that doesn’t necessarily break the experience. And, obviously, there’s performance and other things that are not gonna be as good, but that’s it. It’s just players.”

While that makes sense, I can’t help but feel like it might be time to move on, especially as EA’s upcoming Battlefield 6 is doing that and cutting PS4 and Xbox One loose. However, while both are military shooters, they offer very different experiences and demand different things from the platforms they are available on.

Still, if CoD is so scalable and flexible, I do wonder why the team isn’t, as far as we know, working on a Switch 2 port of Black Ops 7. Perhaps they also struggled to get dev kits ahead of Nintendo’s console launch earlier this year? Or maybe somewhere deep inside the massive entity that is Activision-owned studios, someone is tinkering with Black Ops 7 on Switch 2 right now. I wouldn’t bet on it, but maybe you like to gamble?

The Sims 4 gets a much-needed update to the increasingly buggy base game, as EA assures players that ‘your concerns are heard’ over issues like deformed pets and missing ghost children

The Sims 4 has been going through a bit of a mid-life crisis lately. A wayward patch issued in July triggered a rampant pregnancy epidemic, while the most recent Enchanted by Nature DLC received a less-than enthusiastic response from players. Now, it seems the community is generally fed up with the increasingly buggy state of the base game, with EA revealing plans for two solid months dedicated to bugfixes and quality-of-life support.

“We see your feedback on technical issues and game performance. And we want to assure you that your concerns are heard,” the publisher wrote in a post on Monday. “Over the next 8 weeks, our dedicated teams will dive in to resolve current issues and get ahead of unforeseen technical disruptions.”

Those plans kicked off in earnest with a big update to the base game that arrived late on Thursday. The headline feature of this patch was a newly added playpark for kids to run themselves ragged on, as well as a ‘play pretend’ interaction for kids who presumably can’t get to said playpark for whatever reason. The update also adds a prototype “memory boost” feature to eke some extra performance from your PC, though you’ll need to opt into this in the game settings.

The meat of the update, though, is a voluminous list of bug fixes. These address a mixture of issues, some raised by the community, others selected from EA’s existing “bug archive”. There are far too many to list here, but a couple of highlights include pets being straightened out so they “no longer get deformed when traveling to another lot after aging up”, while unfortunate child sims “now show up as ghosts when they die due to over heat and freezing”.

EA plans a second round of bugfixes in October, and is asking the community to upvote their most desired fixes in The Sims 4’s bug report section of the EA forums. “Each upvote you cast on a reported issue helps us determine which problems are causing the biggest disruptions across the community,” the publisher points out. “The earlier we receive votes, the better. We’ll provide an update on our progress if we’re unable to address all of the top-voted issues in our October Laundry List.”

It’s good to see EA working to tidy The Sims 4 up a bit, but I do wonder whether part of the problem is simply that The Sims 4 is now 12 years old, and wasn’t designed to be the platform that EA has decided it is going to be. There was supposedly a fifth Sims game in development under the codename Project Rene, which would seem like an ideal opportunity to create a more robust launchpad for the all-encompassing Sims experience that EA wants.

EA president Laura Miele has since ruled this out, claiming that it wouldn’t be fair to existing fans who have invested lots of time and money into The Sims 4:

“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years,” Miele said during an interview with Variety in July. “We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on The Sims 4, and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.”

It’s a reasonable line of argument, but players are well accustomed to new games supplanting old ones, and the existence of a Sims 5 doesn’t stop them from playing The Sims 4, unless EA decided to withdraw the game from sale.

In the same interview, Miele mentions that EA is planning a technology refresh and additional modes of play for The Sims 4, the former of which might help with all the bugs and other issues. Alternatively, it might break the game entirely, especially given the sheer amount of additional, optional stuff players can plug into the game.

Moreover, such an approach doesn’t offer the opportunity to address some of the more fundamental issues with The Sims 4. While it certainly has plenty to offer players these days, it was never the deepest of Maxis’ simulations (The Sims 3 had far richer AI, for example) and stubbornly sticking with it seems like a missed opportunity to create a strong foundation for a new era of Sims play.

Nonetheless, for now EA is sticking to its plan of retrofitting The Sims 4 with platform heels, so we’ll just have to hope the next few weeks of hardcore bug-fixing gives them a sufficiently clean foundation to work with.

Randy Pitchford advises Borderlands 4 players to “get a refund” if they’re not happy with it, as social media tirade defending PC performance continues

As criticism of Borderlands 4’s technical performance continues, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has told players to “get a refund from Steam if you aren’t happy with it”.

Since Borderlands 4’s release last week, Pitchford has been on a tirade on social media in defence of the game calling it “pretty damn optimal”.

In his latest post, Pitchford stated every PC gamer “must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing”, effectively placing responsibility on individual players to perform their own optimisations.

One player responded “Your product doesn’t meet the standards” and said it took days to get the game to a tolerable state.

“You can do whatever you want,” Pitchford replied. “The game is the game. Please get a refund from Steam if you aren’t happy with it.

“You made an analogy to a vehicle. I would not put a Ferrari engine in a monster truck and expect it to drive like a Ferrari. If you tell me about your specification, I can help you optimise your performance. I’m sorry you don’t like being told to use DLSS, but that is the way. If you’re not happy using the tools available to you to improve frame rate and you’re not happy with the frame rate you have, you should play a different game.

“The game is awesome and it is designed to be just fine of an experience at 30fps and feel great at 60fps. We also have provided a lot of options for you to make different trade offs between frame rate, resolution, and graphics features than we would make and we encourage you to use those tools to optimise to your taste. Would you like help tuning your experience better to your liking?”

Every PC gamer must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing.

Despite performance issues across both PC and console platforms, Borderlands 4 is proving popular. On Steam alone it’s reached a concurrent player count of over 304k (though this remains behind Hollow Knight: Silksong).

The official Borderlands account released some player stats such as items looted and bosses defeated, with Pitchford adding: “Holy bananas you guys played a LOT of Borderlands 4 over the weekend. The backend on-line services all held, which is what we hoped would happen!”

It also looks like a POV slider could be added for console players, following complaints of motion sickness.

12 Tips For New And Returning Players

Borderlands 4 is a very big and mostly great game that you’ll likely spend over 50 hours in if you try to do everything it has to offer. It also might be your first Borderlands in a long time, or possibly ever. This all might seem really intimidating. 10 billion guns! A giant open world! What should you do? Well, I’ve got your back. Here are 12 tips to help you get started and kick ass in Borderlands 4. And be not afraid, there are no spoilers below.

Don’t Get Distracted By Side Quests Until You Get Your Hover Bike

Look, I get it. Running around and doing every little side quest is fun, but I’d recommend focusing on the main story until you get your hoverbike. It won’t take more than two hours and it’s worth it. Well, unless you like walking everywhere in a big open-world game. And speaking of side quests and not doing them…

Maybe Don’t Do Every Side Quest Before Finishing The Main Story…

I’m a map cleaner in open-world games. I get it. I love to methodically clear out every piece of content in a big open world. But maybe don’t do that until you complete the main story. That’s because once you do that, regardless of your level, you unlock “Specializations,” which is a new set of passive bonuses and skills that act as an endgame grind. And you level this up with XP. So it might be better to mainline the story and then turn around and do all the side stuff later.

But…Focus On Getting SDU Credits To Make Your Backpack Bigger

While I advise not doing every side quest before the credits roll, I do suggest you look out for Propaganda Towers, Bunkers, and other open-world activities that reward you with SDU credits that can be used to upgrade how many items you can hold at once in your backpack. Trust me, you want to upgrade this ASAP. You are going to be grabbing so much random junk to sell and sort through, and running out of space sucks. So prioritize getting that backpack upgraded.

Use The Loot As Junk Button

New to Borderlands 4 is the ability to loot items as junk. This means that you can instantly sell it and every single item you’ve marked as junk with the press of a button just by walking up to a vending machine. It saves a lot of time and is one of the best features in Borderlands 4. Use it. You’ll thank me later.

Keep An Eye Open For Elemental Weapons To Help You Kill Quickly

It’s very easy to focus exclusively on getting guns with bigger numbers. But hold up! It’s not all about DPS. You might want to keep that SMG or shotgun because of its elemental damage type. You see, enemies in Borderlands 4 all have different weaknesses to different elements. Enemies with red health bars burn fast, baddies with blue health bars are weak to shock, and aliens or robots with yellow health bars get melted quickly with acid.

So before you drop that slightly weaker SMG for a cool new one, stop and think. Does the weaker one do acid damage? Is it your only weapon that does acid damage? You might want to keep it, then, so you can fight robots with ease.

Don’t Have Four Of The Same Type Of Gun Equipped

I love a good assault rifle in Borderlands 4. I’m always on the lookout for a new Daedalus AR to add to my collection. But I never run around with more than one AR equipped. Why? Because if all your guns are the same type–like all shotguns or whatever–then you’ll burn through that ammo type much faster. Variety is the spice of life, and it also means you don’t use up all your shotgun shells in a matter of minutes.

Look Down Your Character’s Skill Tree Before Unlocking Anything

Simple one, but important: Before you start upgrading your character’s skills, take a moment to look at what you’ll be able to unlock later on. You might see a skill you just desperately want, or you might realize the particular skill tree you are examining features bonuses and abilities you’ll just never use. And sure, the game lets you respec everything, but why waste time earning skills you don’t like when you can take a moment to plan ahead and have a much better time.

When Playing Co-op, Use Your Buddies As Fast Travel Stations

Playing with your friends is always better, but in Borderlands 4, that’s especially true as you can fast-travel to them whenever you want. Tricky platforming section that you don’t want to do? Fast travel to your bud! Get lost and can’t find your way to the next part of the quest? Fast travel to your friend. Want to sell a bunch of stuff in the middle of a big fight? Fast travel to an area with vending machines, sell your junk, and then fast travel back to your friends. This feature is so useful and powerful that it almost feels like cheating.

Use The Newly Added Repkits!

It’s easy to forget about Borderlands 4‘s newly added Rep Kits, which are small items that can heal you during fights. They are brand new to the franchise and the game never warns you to use one when your health gets low. But use your Rep Kits! They can make a challenging ambush much easier.

If Lost, Just Use Echo 4, aka Hit Up On The D-Pad

Remember, you can always ask Echo 4, your new robot companion, to guide you to your next quest objective or your custom marker. This can be really handy when deep in a cave or building filled with multiple rooms and hallways. Just hit up on the D-pad, and Echo 4 will generate an easy-to-follow holographic line in the world pointing to your target location.

Grab Contracts Before Heading Out

Whenever you return to one of the many hub and town areas in Borderlands 4, take a moment to check the bounty board and grab some bounties. Many of these are very easy to complete and just want you to kill a few random enemies. You were going to do that anyway, so why not get some extra XP and rewards for doing so?

Hold Onto Gold Keys Until You Level Up

The moment you walk up to your first gold chest in Borderlands 4, you’ll be tempted to use any gold keys you currently have. Don’t do this. I know, it’s fun to open a big shiny box and get new guns, most of which will be pretty good. But if you’re below level 40, I’d avoid using your keys as the loot you get from them at that point will be made worthless in the not-too-distant future. That level 7 legendary sniper ain’t going to be worth using when, a few hours later, you’re level 12 and find a much better one. Save your gold keys for when you’re in the endgame portion of Borderlands 4.

EA’s Skate has now released into early access and has already proven so popular there are long queues to get in, with the team fixing ongoing outage issues.

Yet when players do get in, they’re discovering skating isn’t actually the optimal way to get around. In fact, videos on social media make the game look more like Super Mario 64.

One player shared a video of their character rolling and jumping without a skateboard to overtake traffic and speed around the city.

Another player responded with a video of their character similarly rolling and jumping before belly flopping to slide over the ground.

Yet another player has found jumping from their board and flying to be an optimal way to build up speed.

It’s clear, then, Skate is not quite performing as expected. But for now, the studio is busy improving wait times, with the team “hard at work adding more servers and getting more skaters into San Van”, it wrote on social media. “We appreciate your patience.”

As per the game’s subreddit, many players have been sitting waiting in queues, while others have joined a session but been shortly kicked out due to server issues.

As a result, many players have complained about Skate’s online requirement. Developer Full Circle confirmed back in April the game would require an online connection.

“The game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving,” it wrote in an FAQ. “You’ll see bigger things evolve, like changes to the city over time, as well as smaller things, like live events and other in-game activities. In order to deliver on our vision of a skateboarding world, the game will always require a live connection.”

Still, that only works if players are able to get in, for which the studio is at least prioritising a fix.

AROUND MIDDAY SATURDAY, Jackson Arnold will hop off a bus and walk into Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

He will know his way around but won’t take the familiar route toward the home locker room. Nor will he put on the crimson and white Oklahoma jersey. Instead, he will suit up for Auburn and begin final preparations for a game brimming with emotion and nostalgia.

Arnold, ESPN’s No. 2 recruit in the 2023 class, was supposed to be the next great quarterback at Oklahoma, which has produced three Heisman Trophy winners, a Heisman runner-up and a series of all-league and All-America selections since 2015. But a rough 2024 season led him and the Sooners to part ways. He entered the transfer portal and found a new team. And, like many transfers, Arnold will now line up against his former team.

“He’s very mature and he doesn’t give any credit to any noise or talk,” Auburn coach Hugh Freeze said. “He’s a pro. We all understand people might cheer for him, boo him, whatever it is. I think he’s mentally strong.”

Arnold’s situation has become a weekly occurrence around college football, even in the young 2025 season. Last week, Duke quarterback Darian Mensah returned to New Orleans and faced Tulane, the team he helped to a 9-2 start last season before landing an NIL deal with the Blue Devils that could pay him $8 million over two seasons.

When Kansas State and Arizona met last Friday in Tucson, safety Gunner Maldonado and wide receiver Tre Spivey were suiting up for different sets of Wildcats. Maldonado is in his first season at Kansas State after four with Arizona, and Spivey is in his first with Arizona after two with Kansas State.

“I had people coming for my neck every day, talking about the big game or what I was going to do and everything, but I didn’t listen to the outside noise,” he said.

Arnold, who didn’t meet with reporters this week, had a similar response when asked about Oklahoma following Auburn’s win against South Alabama. He said he’s not on social media, joking that “there’s no noise for me.”

The emotional component is heightened for these games and cannot be ignored. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian kept an eye on defensive lineman Hero Kanu in the leadup to the season opener at Ohio State, the team Kanu played for in 2024.

“I try to get a pretty good sense of the feel for our players throughout the summer, throughout fall camp,” Sarkisian said. “Then, I try to monitor the player that [game] week, and if I feel like they’re getting out of character, I address it. If I feel like they’re practicing well, they’re being themselves, I don’t address it. Sometimes you can make something out of nothing when you start to do things like that.

“With Hero, I thought he was in a great place going into the game, and I thought he played well in the game. I never addressed it with him one time.”

Freeze didn’t play college football, but he has been through an experience similar to what Arnold will go through this week. As Liberty’s coach in 2021, he returned to Ole Miss, where he coached from 2012 until being fired shortly before the 2017 season.

“That whole week, it was a challenge for me not to think about some of that,” Freeze said. “I know the same will be true for Jackson. … My advice to him is to just keep the focus on our team. That was my advice to myself. It’s not about you. It’s not about me. It’s about our team preparing to go in to play.”

Little focused on keeping “a calm mind” when he arrived at Doak Campbell Stadium for the opener against Alabama. When Florida State’s defensive backs began warmups, he ran into some former Alabama teammates and others from the program whom he knew from his time there.

They briefly exchanged greetings.

“No bad blood at all, it was all good vibes,” Little said.

Weeks after Stanford fired coach Troy Taylor, wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier and his younger brother, Bear, an incoming freshman quarterback, entered the transfer portal. As BYU came into focus as their likely destination, the Bachmeier brothers immediately noticed that the team would be hosting Stanford in Week 2.

As soon as BYU finished its season-opening win against Portland State, Tiger Bachmeier sensed what was coming.

“You start to get a bit of anxiousness, not nervousness or nastiness,” he said. “You can’t really explain it. There’s something eerie and weird about the feeling.”

Although Bear Bachmeier would end up starting for BYU, he had been at Stanford for only a few months. Tiger, meanwhile, had started 13 games for the Cardinal and earned his computer science degree there in 2½ years.

“You build lasting relationships, and then when you pull the plug on that, it’s definitely an emotional thing,” Tiger Bachmeier said. “It was more detached for Bear.”

Arizona coach Brent Brennan said it’s important to recognize that transfers have a range of experiences with their former teams and those they left behind. When reunion games come around, his message is the same: Regardless of how things went before, the focus must remain on the current team and its mission.

Like other coaches, Brennan doesn’t amplify the situation, but he doesn’t ignore it, either.

“It might be a simple one-off conversation at the beginning of the week and then a reminder somewhere late in the week,” Brennan said. “You’re trying to keep them locked into the team and what the team needs from them on that day, and just trying to help them navigate any of the emotions they might have, and not letting that become either a distraction for your team or detrimental to their own play.”

COACHES ARE TASKED with getting every player ready to perform on game days. They’re also trying to gain every advantage possible, including potential intel on the opponent.

“I would say there probably is [information gathering],” Florida coach Billy Napier said, while adding, “not that you would talk about it [publicly].”

Last week, Arkansas faced an Ole Miss team that added three Razorbacks transfers in the offseason: offensive lineman Patrick Kutas, cornerback Jaylon Braxton and tight end Luke Hasz. Offensive lineman Kavion Broussard, meanwhile, came to Arkansas from Ole Miss and has seen action this season.

The transactions could have impacted both teams in their preparation, especially since Arkansas and Ole Miss have the same head coaches and primary coordinators from 2024.

“I’m sure that there’s conversations going on about calls and teaching and how we did things here, maybe,” Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said before the team’s 41-35 loss at Ole Miss. “… It’s not just Ole Miss, it’s anybody that transfers, where they could possibly help their team win a game. So we certainly understand that and are aware of that.”

When coaches get information, they also must assess how much, if at all, to adjust their plans.

“There’s a fine line in there, and sometimes you can start to outsmart yourself,” Sarkisian said. “Every team you play knows that they have a player that is a former player on your team. And then, OK, what do we need to change? What do we need to adjust? Sometimes you can get that information and then a coach can outsmart you. … I just think you have to be careful when it comes to trying to get information for former players from a school, assuming they know that player and they can outfox us.”

How Oklahoma coach Brent Venables defends Arnold will be a major subplot to Saturday’s game. On Tuesday, Venables applauded Arnold’s early success with Auburn after a 2024 season in which he eclipsed 200 passing yards just once.

Venables said he sees “the same guy … with a healthy football team around him,” referring to the surge of injuries that hit Oklahoma’s wide receiver group and other areas of the offense last fall. The coach also downplayed the potential advantage he will have in scheming against his former quarterback.

“Guys can change from one year to the next,” Venables said. “There’s a lot that you don’t know, because you’re not with them for the last eight months. … Jackson’s one of the most talented players in all of college football. He’s can throw, he’s got a big arm, he can run, he’s got a great capacity intellectually and great leadership skills, he’s been a winner his whole life. So I don’t think there’s any kind of advantage whatsoever.

“He saw our defense every single day in practice, so there’s going to be a familiarity to that.”

BEFORE BYU HOSTED Stanford, Tiger Bachmeier’s Cougars teammates quizzed him about some of Stanford’s players. Bachmeier, who describes himself as “pretty positive on everyone,” tried to highlight their best qualities.

“I enjoyed telling funny stories about the guys and the memories, character traits versus how he sets blocks,” Bachmeier said. “I don’t know if that’s what they were looking for. Some of those guys are my best friends.”

After leaving for BYU in the spring, Bachmeier stayed in contact with several Stanford players. The correspondence dwindled during training camp. When game week arrived, they simply wished each other good luck and asked if they should take pictures before or after the game.

One Stanford player suggested a pregame prayer. Before a game last year at Stanford Stadium, Bachmeier had met his brother Hank, a quarterback at Wake Forest, in the tunnel and they prayed together. But the group prayer was harder to coordinate.

“That was a really, really weird atmosphere during pregame because you’re trying to stay focused and you see your friends who you haven’t seen for five months,” Tiger Bachmeier said. “You want to say, ‘What’s up?'”

After the game, Bachmeier got a chance to see wide receiver Myles Libman, safety Charlie Eckhardt and offensive lineman Fisher Anderson — and take pictures.

“We all kind of ran up to each other and gave each other hugs for five straight minutes,” Bachmeier said. “That’s what it’s all about.”

Little was hoping to see his Alabama friends after the opener, but Florida State fans had other ideas after the Seminoles’ 31-17 win.

“The field got rushed pretty quickly, so I unfortunately couldn’t go and holler at some of my old teammates,” Little said. “All the fans were jumping on me. I couldn’t say anything to those guys.”

He reached out to a few, but “they were mad at me,” Little joked, adding that the Alabama players did offer their congratulations.

“We missed each other,” Little said. “When it was time to step on the football field, it’s war. But at the end of the day, I’m still cool with those guys and have much respect for them.”

Arnold undoubtedly will be tracked before, during and after Saturday’s game, as many want to see how he interacts with Venables and others from his time at Oklahoma. But players and coaches who have been through transfer reunions say the trickiest part is the hours and minutes before kickoff.

“There’s no one way that it goes down,” Diaz said. “What I’ve found, more than anything is, once the game begins, the game becomes about the game, and everybody just sort of moves on.”

Fortnite creators will soon be able to sell in-game items to make more money, but are Creative Mode offerings like Steal A Brainrot what players want?

Epic will soon allow Fortnite developers to sell in-game items from their Fortnite islands, allowing creators to make more money.

This will begin in December 2025, and for the first year developers will earn 100 percent of the V-Bucks value from sales – usually this is at 50 percent.

The news comes as Fortnite’s Creative Mode of fan-made content is proving exceptionally popular – recently, the Fortnite version of Roblox meme game Steal A Brainrot had more concurrent players than Epic’s official maps.

Fortnite’s Creative Mode first launched back in 2018, and allows players to create their own maps and modes. Epic then offers a payout based on engagement – last year it paid out $325m to creators, with seven receiving over $10m.

Since Creative Mode’s release, Epic has revealed, players have spent over 11.2bn hours across 260,000 creator-made islands, resulting in $722,000,000 paid to creators.

The amount of money creators will make in Fortnite is only going to increase when they’re able to sell in-game items directly from their islands, in addition to receiving an engagement payout from Fortnite’s item shop sales.

Epic has a formula for calculating the V-Bucks value in US dollars each month, which takes all real-money spending towards V-Bucks (in dollars), subtracting platform and store fees, and dividing by total V-Bucks spent. With creators usually earning 50 percent of V-Bucks value from sales, this equates to 37 percent of retail spending. Roblox offers 25 percent, by way of comparison.

In addition, Epic will add a Sponsored Row to Fortnite’s Discover, meaning creators can pay for increased visibility by bidding for placement in the row. That’s a further investment in generating more in-game sales.

Epic has also announced Fortnite Creator Communities, to allow creators to share updates directly with players on the web and within Fortnite. Creator posts will be text and image-based and allow for sharing information and gathering feedback – much like on Steam.

But despite the huge success of creator islands, is this really what Fortnite players want?

Take Steal A Brainrot. It’s proven to be a phenomenal success – as Dexerto reported, it had 24 million players in a single day across both Roblox and Fortnite versions. While the Roblox version peaked at 23.4 million players in a day, Fortnite’s version contributed 542,000. That vastly outweighs Fortnite’s primary Battle Royale modes that generate around 100,000 players during peak weekend play.

“They are promoting AI slop, copy and paste creative maps more than their own BR season,” wrote one player on reddit. “This is going to prove to be extremely unhealthy for the game in general I believe, and with the already low player counts this season Epic needs to do something to steer back to the basics, this metaverse stuff has RUINED Fortnite. This game has become a corporate shell of what it once was and I believe the remainder of this year will very much so make or break Fortnite as a whole.”

“Stuff like this cluttering the overview makes me disinterested in random creative maps. Those who put genuine effort into their maps often get hardly any attention,” wrote a user on a separate reddit post. Others point to the casual nature of user-made maps, as well as the high XP offered, as reasons for players to flock over.

Still, this new update for Fortnite creators is further shifting the game away from its Battle Royale roots into a Roblox-rivalling metaverse.

Battlefield 6 won’t include console-only crossplay after all, despite reports to the contrary.

Eurogamer reported yesterday, based on an interview from IGN with Battlefield 6 senior combat designer Matthew Nickerson and technical director Christian Buhl, that console players across PlayStation and Xbox would be able to play together without PC players.

It now transpires this is not the case, as per a clarification from EA to Dexerto. EA has not responded to Eurogamer’s request for comment.

So how will crossplay work in Battlefield 6?

Nickerson was at least correct in how crossplay will work for console players when the toggle is turned on. Here, PlayStation and Xbox players will be prioritised before PC players are added to fill a lobby.

However, if crossplay is turned off, players will only play with others on their current platform. As such, Xbox and PlayStation players won’t be able to play together exclusively without PC players. They also won’t be able to party up with or join players on other platforms.

This will be disappointing for fans who had hoped to play across platforms, but without PC players.

That’s because cheating tends to be more prevalent on PC, something console players are keen to avoid.

“Obviously, cheating is much more prevalent on PC than on console, but we are taking a lot of effort, putting a lot of work into prioritising fighting against cheaters,” said Buhl. “We’ve turned on secure boot. We’ve got Javelin, our new anti-cheat system, which is required in order to play.

“So, we’re doing a lot on the PC side to clamp down on cheating as much as possible. We have a whole team within Battlefield dedicated to anti-cheat, which includes engineers, analysts who are reviewing things and banning players, and figuring out what the latest cheats are. We have another whole dedicated team at EA to anti-cheat that we work closely with. That’s what I can say. Now, we can never win against cheaters, right? Cheaters will always be there. It’s a never-ending cat-and-mouse game. I can’t promise that there will be zero cheaters if you’re playing against PC players. That’s just simply not possible, but I can say that we are being extremely aggressive. We see this as critical to the success of – to the health of – the game.”

Battlefield 6 will be out on 10th October across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but don’t expect a Switch 2 version any time soon.
