Visa Pilots Stablecoins To Modernize Cross-Border Payments

Visa is launching a stablecoin prefunding pilot through Visa Direct, in a bid to make cross-border payments faster and more flexible.

Visa Direct Will Utilize Stablecoins For The First Time

Payments giant Visa has announced a new pilot program for Visa Direct, the firm’s real-time global payments platform. According to the announcement, which occurred at Sibos 2025, businesses will be able to prefund cross-border payments with stablecoins, cryptocurrencies pegged to a fiat currency.

Until now, Visa Direct users could only prefund their international payments using fiat. Such transactions were slow, sometimes taking days, forcing businesses to park their capital in advance. With the use of stablecoins, however, settlement can occur in minutes.

Chris Newkirk, President, Commercial & Money Movement Solutions at the company, said:

Cross-border payments have been stuck in outdated systems for far too long. Visa Direct’s new stablecoins integration lays the groundwork for money to move instantly across the world, giving businesses more choice in how they pay.

Pre-funding with these fiat-tied currencies works just like with fiat: Visa treats the tokens as “money in the bank.” Recipients, however, aren’t forced to get paid in stables; they can choose to receive in their local currency instead.

With the new pilot, businesses will have the advantage of having better access to capital, as they won’t have to park it up in advance for as long as with the current fiat system. As for who can use the Visa Direct pilot right now, the payment card services company has noted that it’s only open to select partners that meet the criteria. The firm expects the pilot to move into limited availability by April 2026.

Visa said in the press release:

By combining the scale and trust of Visa’s global network with the programmability of blockchain and by partnering with leading payment providers on prefunding use cases, Visa is helping modernize cross-border payments for businesses, financial institutions and consumers worldwide.

Visa isn’t the only financial institution that has made a move toward modernizing cross-border payments during Frankfurt’s Sibos 2025. Payments messaging platform SWIFT has also announced a shared ledger developed with 30+ major global banks based on the blockchain, the technology that powers digital assets like Bitcoin and stablecoins.

Bitcoin Has Retraced Some Of Its Recovery Over The Past Day

Bitcoin exceeded the $114,700 mark on Monday in what looked like the return of bullish momentum, but the rally seems to have already run out of steam as the cryptocurrency has returned to the $112,800 level.

The chart below shows how the coin’s recent performance has looked:

One warning sign that may have already been there could be the sharp surge in the Open Interest that accompanied the price surge, as CryptoQuant community analyst Maartunn pointed out in an X post.

A sudden large jump in speculative activity can often lead to volatility for Bitcoin, which may be what happened this time as well.

Delivery Must Complete is Devil May Cry for Ace Combat pilots

by admin September 17, 2025

It’s been long enough since I last played an Ace Combat game that I can remember only two things about Ace Combat. 1) This Ace Combat 7 cutscene featuring what appears to be a wavy JPEG of a dog, which the Twitterati all thought was an exasperated animator’s joke, but which I understand is actually a homage to a real staff member’s dog who died before the game’s release. And 2) you can ‘powerslide’ by wilfully initiating a stall, which I think might actually be a move from Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.

Delivery Must Complete sort of builds a whole subgenre around the thrill of powersliding planes. How does it do this? The clue is that “DMC” is also an abbreviation of “Devil May Cry”. Here’s a trailer. I promise you there will be no further confusing/upsetting references to dogs.

Watch on YouTube

The Steam page calls it “a high speed Acelike Roguelike with SSSTYLE”, featuring cell-shaded, upgradeable jet fighters, four procedural locations, and an enemy roster that includes blimps, dragons and mechs. The story blurb suggests that your overall goal is to make a delivery. What’s the return postage cost for an exploded Sidewinder these days?

In Delivery Must Complete, you will: parry missiles, fire bouncy projectiles out of railguns, deal with varying cloud cover, boggle at fantastical terrain flourishes such as floating islands, build a style meter, and call in orbital strikes. You will not: have limited ammo, though you do have to worry about overheating.

It’s the work of Melbourne, Australia-based developer and gamejam enthusiast Yoyoyollie. There’s no release date yet. Thanks to ae2501maeth for noticing. I’ve been in the mood for a firmly non-simulatory flight sim for a while and this looks like just the thing, though I do have to flag up its mystifying shortage of brewing mechanics.

Ripple Brings $700M RLUSD to Africa With Insurance Pilots for Climate Relief

by admin September 4, 2025

Ripple, the payments-focused digital asset firm, is expanding its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin Ripple USD (RLUSD) to institutions in Africa through new partnerships with Chipper Cash, VALR and Yellow Card distributors.

The rollout aims to give businesses across the continent access to a stable, digital dollar designed for cross-border payments, liquidity and on-chain settlement, the company said in a Wednesday press release.

RLUSD, launched in late 2024 and issued by a New York trust company regulated by the state’s Department of Financial Services, has grown to over $700 million in supply on Ethereum ETH$4,409.72 and the XRP Ledger (XRP), RWA.xyz data shows. The token could be used for treasury operations, remittances and as collateral for trading tokenized assets such as commodities or securities, Ripple said.

Ripple’s expansion comes as stablecoins emerge as a cheaper and faster alternative to traditional payment channels, especially in emerging markets where access to reliable currencies and banking is often limited. In parts of Africa, residents already use digital dollars like USDT for savings or cross-border transfers, a report by Castle Island and Brevan Howard said. RLUSD’s entry introduces a regulated alternative aimed squarely at institutional users, a segment that faces challenges accessing stable liquidity in local currencies.

In parallel, Mercy Corps Ventures is testing RLUSD in climate risk insurance initiatives in Kenya. In one trial, the stablecoin funds are released automatically when satellite data signals drought conditions. Another pilot underpins rainfall insurance, with payouts triggered by extreme weather events.
