Sega just accidentally leaked its own sales numbers, and somehow Sonic Frontiers sold more than the last two mainline Yakuzas combined, but Persona 5’s putting the rest of the stable to shame

by admin June 22, 2025

First reported by VGC, Sega Sammy Holdings—Sega’s delightfully-named parent company—mistakenly uploaded sales numbers for 11 major games to a public page on the company website. ResetEra user –R uploaded the full table to the forum, allowing us to still peep those numbies after Sega took the original page down.

The original table charts earnings by fiscal year from 2020 to 2025, but for simplicity, here are the total units sold for each game across the entire span:

  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: 1.66 million
  • Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name: 960,000
  • Persona 3 Reload: 2.07 million
  • Sonic Superstars: 2.43 million
  • Sonic Frontiers: 4.57 million
  • Total War: Warhammer 3: 2.34 million
  • Shin Megami Tensei V: 2.11 million
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon: 2.86 million
  • Persona 5 Royal: 7.25 million
  • Team Sonic Racing: 3.50 million
  • Total War: Three Kingdoms: 3.21 million

The biggest surprise for me is how well Sonic games are selling to this day—possibly helped a great deal by the movies—as well as how slowly recent Yakuza/Like a Dragon games have sold by comparison. Sonic Frontiers moved almost as many units as Yakuza 7, Infinite Wealth, and The Man Who Erased His Name combined.

Frontiers is a game that seemed to come and go without much fanfare, while Like a Dragon appears to be at the height of its popularity. I wouldn’t worry about Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio or anything, though: Those are still strong showings, and the developer just cranks games out at an almost unheard-of pace for the 2020s game industry, more than making up for any one game’s relative lack of success.

Two more things stood out to me. First, nothing even comes close to Persona 5 Royal’s 7 million units sold, and this data doesn’t even account for Persona 5’s first three years of non-Royal circulation, likely putting its total north of 10 million.

Second are the notable omissions of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and especially Metaphor: ReFantazio. Both were perhaps excluded for having released too close to the end of Sega’s 2025 fiscal year, but Metaphor seems to have sold like gangbusters, and I’m very curious to know how it stacks up.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Praise be, my visionOS 26 persona is significantly less cursed!

by admin June 12, 2025

For several months, my Slack avatar was a screenshot of my incredibly cursed Vision Pro persona. My virtual avatar’s head was cocked back, cackling into the pixelated void, her hair one solid unmoving block. It wasn’t good — but it also wasn’t the end of the world. Everyone else’s Persona looked just as horrible, and honestly, it was funny. So I was skeptical when, at the WWDC keynote, Apple announced that visionOS 26 had improved the system’s floating avatars.

And then I got to make one.

The process to make Personas hasn’t changed, but the end result is vastly improved. (Full disclosure: The video you see above was recorded by Apple and provided to me after my demo.) It doesn’t completely erase the uncanniness — the bottom half of your face is still more expressive than the top, it got my nose a bit weird in certain angles, and some microexpressions feel stiff. But hair looks more like hair now. You can see eyelashes and skin texture. It was even able to capture my nose contour makeup.

Side profiles have also been improved — something I noticed in a FaceTime with our old weekend editor Wes Davis, a fellow Vision Pro owner who also downloaded the visionOS 26 beta. Previously, if you turned your head to the side, you could look flattened, something akin to a PlayStation 2 era, non-cut scene video game character.

It’s easier to tweak your Persona now, too. You can customize lighting, skin tone, and get granular with eyewear if you’re a glasses wearer.

Wes’s side profile is much better, though the mustache can still be… odd in motion. Screenshot: The Verge

The biggest thing for me, though, is when I laugh and my eyes scrunch up, I no longer look like a caricature of myself. After spending a few weeks experimenting with AI image and video generation, I’ve been subjected to numerous demoralizing renders of my monolids. You might not know this if you’re not Asian, but monolids aren’t considered a desirable feature under traditional Western and Eastern beauty standards alike. I’ll acknowledge that the fact they’re often terribly rendered is a first-world problem. Nevertheless, it can be hurtful when blepharoplasties to reshape eyelids are an incredibly common procedure in my community. It might seem like a trivial thing to fixate on, but if the future is really meant to be lived inside headsets — I want my virtual self to actually look like me.

In my brief hands-on, I also got the impression that Personas in visionOS 26 are also much better at capturing a variety of expressions. I know that the average person isn’t going to be winking, making goofy faces, or purposefully contorting their face as if they were a Disney cartoon. But, if you are that type of person, I can say I was impressed at how much better the new Persona system is at handling my facial gymnastics. (Alas, Wes’ new Persona still has an unflappably weird mustache.)

But enough of my yammering, you can judge for yourself in the video above, compared to screenshots of my old Persona I’ve included below.

I got a few other demos in my hands-on. I yeeted myself to a virtual moon of Jupiter. I saw a few examples of improved spatial videos taken on action cams. Apple is still convinced we all want even better spatial photos. But aside from Personas, the other demo I was pleasantly surprised by was widgets. I stand corrected. In our liveblog, I mocked an ever-present virtual wall clock. Having experienced a demo, however, I can see the appeal of a permanent-but-editable wall panel where I can hang digital album art, a Reminders app interface, and maybe recreate my own smart home control hub. It requires conceptual buy-in that these kinds of virtual spaces are a worthwhile endeavor, but if you’re already onboard? Trust me, you’ll like the widgets.

Demonschool is like Into the Breach meets Persona, with a horror twist

by admin June 12, 2025

Just a couple minutes into the Demonschool demo, I caught myself distracted; this game, developed by indie studio Necrosoft Games, packs such a banger soundtrack and appealing aesthetic that those areas alone warrant your attention. Luckily, Demonschool also thrives on a ton of substance to accompany that flashy style.

Demonschool is an upcoming isometric RPG built on tactical battles and war-like strategy. Battles are split between two phases: planning and action. The planning phase requires players to prepare their attacks on the battlefield, select placement, allocate attack points to damage foes, and position party members to drive back opposing forces, which consist of demons, gangsters, and everything in between; meanwhile, the action phase is what results from the player’s strategic planning and the enemy’s response.

Furthermore, the battles have unique elements; player units can only move on the battlefield in a straight line unless they’re using an ability called Sidestep; attacks often push back other characters upon impact, which can work in your favor, depending on your positioning.

Image: Necrosft Games

A battle reaches its conclusion upon either the player closing a demonic portal and defeating a specific number of demons or the opposition breaching the barrier between the demon hellscape and Earth. If it sounds like there is a lot to the battles in Demonschool, it’s because there is. The mechanics can be a bit challenging to master, and fights can be brutal to win on the first try, so make sure you practice patience in learning this tough yet rewarding combat system. But once things begin to flow, the whole battle experience feels like an old-school strategy puzzle game infused with bits of RPG-flavored mechanics. And, according to Demonschool’s creative director, Brandon Sheffield, that particular feeling was the whole point of the game’s design.

“The core design of the battles came initially from a tactics puzzle prototype – I was trying to devise the smallest tactical game I could,” Sheffield told RPGFan. “Things evolved from there to where the focus became a tactics game where you don’t have to make a lot of clicks or confirmations. That’s how I landed on the idea of moving your character and having them automatically do whatever sort of action is applicable when they reach an enemy.”

Playing the demo reminded me of franchises like Persona with its school setting, a distinctive UI with flared text that recalls Danganronpa, and even Mega Man Battle Network and Into the Breach for the game’s incessant focus on rigid and tactical grid-based combat. Still, even with so much inspiration oozing from this new game, Demonschool manages to create a unique experience that sets it apart from these titles in a fresh, innovative way.

Image: Necrosft Games

The game’s new demo offers a chance to experience both aspects of school life and combat, with the player controlling a girl named Faye, who leads a group of her classmates, Destin, Namako, and Knute, on a mission to retrieve a demonic paintbrush.

While gaining new levels and abilities were not included in the demo, the game drove home the concept of exploring the real world and demon realm while teaching players how to make the best use of their time during a typical school week. Some side quests introduced the ability to build bonds between Faye and her friends, leading to better chemistry on the battlefield.

Oh! And there are even mini-games in the demo showing off a beloved staple of the RPG genre: fishing. While the mini-game is rather cozy, engaging, and somewhat challenging, the fish designs are pretty horrific, perfectly encapsulating what Demonschool is all about.

The game was first announced back in 2022 but Demonschool will finally arrive on PC, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch in Q3 2025.

The Persona 4 remake is definitely real, and it’s called Persona 4 Revival

by admin June 9, 2025

The days of speculating about, and pouring over Persona 4 remake leaks are over, because the game has been officially announced. Earlier today, we got our first (and very brief) look at an updated version of one of the most beloved Persona games.

The remake is officially titled Persona 4 Revival, and it was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase.

The Persona 4 Revival reveal was so brief, however, you very well could have missed it. It was a simple trailer that clocked in at just under one-minute. It did, of course, show off the updated visuals, mainly with a character running around the town of Inaba.

Revival is pitched as a “reimagining” of the classic game, but even the press release didn’t tell us what, exactly, we can expect. Revival does not have a release target, either, but it is in the works for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be available day one with Game Pass (Ultimate/PC).

Recently, voice actor Yuri Lowenthal claimed on social media that he won’t be coming back to play Yosuke, which is apparently a decision made by Atlus. Several other actors, who voiced characters in the original game themselves, later also chimed in to say that they, too, will not be returning for the remake.

However, fans quickly began to suspect that it’s all part of a large marketing ploy, because the actors released these statements in the same order their characters are introduced in the game, which would’ve either been a massive coincidence, or an elaborate marketing blitz.

Watch on YouTube

Persona 4 initially came out in 2008 on the PS2. In 2012, an updated version – Persona 4 Golden – came to the PS Vita, before the original game was ported to the PS3 in 2014. Persona 4 Golden also made it onto PC in 2020, and finally PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

Those were all re-releases, however, with minimal changes, whereas a full-on remake would involve a lot more than that, which is why fans have been anticipating this reveal.

Director Kazuhisa Wada said in a press release following the announcement that the team is “confident that this will be a fresh and surprising product for both newcomers and long-time fans,” but didn’t share any more besides.

Persona 4 Remake Announces Itself With Laughably Short Trailer

Persona 4 Remake Announces Itself With Laughably Short Trailer

by admin June 9, 2025

Screenshot: Atlus / Xbox / Kotaku

During today’s Xbox Summer Game Fest event, the long-rumored remake of Persona 4 was finally announced… but that’s about all we got from the ridiculously short teaser revealing the upcoming remake.

6 Things To Know Before Starting Persona 5 Tactica

Here’s the trailer for Persona 4 Revival, which doesn’t have a release date:

In the extremely (incredibly) brief teaser released by Atlus during the event, we saw a few seconds of gameplay, got a name for the remake, and a list of platforms that the remake of the beloved JRPG will be available on in the future.

Persona 4 Revival has been rumored for years now, with leakers and insiders hinting at the game’s existence. And then on May 28, Persona 4 voice actor Yuri Lowenthal posted on BlueSky—in response to fans asking him about the then-rumored remake and his return—saying that he wasn’t coming back despite possibly begging Atlus to return.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,” posted Lowenthal, who also voices Spider-Man in the Insomniac games on PS4/PS5. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

This was a big hint that the remake was happening. And now, courtesy of Summer Game Fest, we finally got a teaser. There’s not really much to it, but I suspect fans of the original Persona 4 and the franchise as a whole will be digging into every frame to see what they can uncover.

Persona 4 Revival arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in the future. No Switch 2 port was announced. Which is odd, but hey, maybe things will change between now and whenever the remake finally arrives.

Persona 4 remake is on the way, according to one annoyed voice actor

by admin May 29, 2025

A voice actor who featured in Persona 4 has let slip that a remake of the school days JRPG is in the works, mostly because he’s frustrated the developers don’t want him back to perform as his original character. Yuri Lowenthal, who played clumsy bicycle crasher Yosuke in the original 2008 game, expressed some revealing annoyance with developers Atlus in a post on social media that has since been deleted.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,” he said. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

That’s not an undeniable signal fire proving the remake’s existence, but it is some very billowy smoke. Lowenthal has appeared in the Persona series before, and he was the voice of Eiichiro in Persona 3 Reload, the recent remake of that entry. So he’s close enough to the studio to maybe know a thing or two about what’s going on. He’s also voiced a certain neighbourhood webslinger in various Spider-Man games over the years, as well as Mylo from Arcane, and absolute sidequest liability Johnny in the Final Fantasy VII remakes.

He’s not the only one seemingly snubbed by Atlus. Erin Fitzgerald, the voice of Chie, has also complained of the developers’ reluctance to have her return, as noticed by Gamesradar.

“For those asking, I have not been asked to reprise my role as Chie Satonaka in the Persona 4 remake,” she said in her own post. “I am blessed to have recorded as many Persona 4 games as I did playing her.”

Hopes for a Persona 4 remake have persisted among fans, I’m told, since the third game got its makeover. Meanwhile, many folks are doubtless frothing at the mouth for a Persona 6 announcement, which has yet to materialise, with Atlus instead announcing yet another Persona 5 spinoff earlier this month.

Whether a remake is strictly necessary is another thing. A PC remaster of Persona 4 came out in 2020 in the form of Persona 4 Golden, which our Edwin called “a twisting tale of dreams gone rogue in a town sapped of purpose” in his review. If you want a second opinion, my cousin – who just phoned me to chat and who delayed this article from being written by at least one hour – instructed me to review all Persona games with the following single-sentence summary: “Too much text.” And you know what? I might agree. 100 hours to complete a game? Please. I barely think I have 100 hours left to live.

Persona 4 voice actor confirms a remake is in development, after not being cast

by admin May 29, 2025

A voice actor from the original Persona 4 has confirmed a rumoured remake is indeed in development.

Yuri Lowenthal, also known as the voice of Spider-Man in Insomniac’s superhero series, was the voice of Yosuke in the original release of Persona 4 back in 2008 (as well as the protagonist of Persona 3).

In a new post on social media, the actor has stated he won’t be returning for the Persona 4 remake – despite the fact Atlus itself hasn’t confirmed its existence.

While Persona 5 was the game to truly give the Japanese RPG series huge success, Persona 4 was arguably the game that popularised it by building on the formula of its predecessor. In short, Persona 4 is particularly popular among fans, and the rumoured remake is highly-anticipated.

It would follow the release of Persona 3 Reload last year, which enhanced the 2006 original with elements of the more recent Persona 5. Fans have therefore expected a similar remake of the fourth game to follow suit.

Even more eagerly anticipated is the expected Persona 6, though little is known beyond a leak suggesting it’s coming to multiple platforms.

Until then, spin-off Persona 5: The Phantom X is due out next month on PC and mobile.

Persona 4 Remake Possibly Confirmed By Voice Actor From Original Game

by admin May 29, 2025

Given the success of Persona 3 Reload, a similar remake of Persona 4 would seem like an obvious layup, but developer Atlus and publisher Sega have not announced such a project. However, if a recent post on Bluesky by voice actor Yuri Lowenthal is anything to go by, it sounds like it’s a real thing.

Lowenthal voiced Yosuke Hanamura, one of the main characters in the original Persona 4. Today on Bluesky, Lowenthal posted the following: “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

It doesn’t sound like Lowenthal is just speculating either. Considering he apparently received a “no” on returning, it seems like the Persona 4 remake is happening… just without him. This is a bummer for Lowenthal and fans of the original game, but not surprising. Atlus and Sega brought on a new voice cast for last year’s Persona 3 remake, Persona 3 Reload.

Game Informer has contacted Sega to ask about Lowenthal’s post and if the rumored Persona 4 remake is real. We will update this story if we learn more.

In the meantime, read Game Informer’s Persona 4 Golden review, then check out our thoughts on Persona 3 Reload. After that, find out what we want in an eventual Persona 6.

Are you sad about Lowenthal seemingly not returning to voice Yosuke? Let us know in the comments below!

The latest tease about gaming’s latest worst kept secret, Persona 4 Remake, comes from – you guessed it – a pissed-off voice actor

by admin May 28, 2025

Voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has offered a tease – well, perhaps more of a vicious peeling back of the curtain – about the Persona 4 Remake on BlueSky. Persona 4 Remake, a game that has not been officially announced yet, will not be having him back as the voice of Yosuke, the actor claims. Bummer!

The post, which still remains up on Yuri’s social media as of writing, alleges the following, “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

This is not the first time Yuri has tipped his hat and talked about things a little earlier than he maybe should. It was only a few months ago when he talked candidly about Peter Parker’s role in Spider Man 3. That game, again not revealed yet, was something we assumed was coming but had yet to get any official tease from the developer or publisher. Yet Yuri, channeling his IDGAF attitude, was willing to speak about work on it ahead of time.

Whether or not Yuri will get in trouble for this is anyone’s guess. He’s Yuri Lowenthal, one of the big names in voice acting. People love his work and his work, and him getting torn away from a role due to his outspoken nature would probably lead to some backlash from his fans, especially if that role was a sequel or remake.

And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.

It’s a weird way to hear about a Persona 4 Remake for the first time, but hey, better to know than to not know I guess! Are you excited to hear more about the Persona 4 Remake from lips other than Yuri’s? Let us know below!

Persona 4 remake in the works, leaked by voice actor

by admin May 28, 2025

Famed voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has just blown up Atlus’ spot on his personal Bluesky account with a post about not getting to reprise his role as Yosuke in the studio’s Persona 4 remake — a remake that none of us knew for sure was happening until Lowenthal’s post.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back,” Lowenthal wrote. (Despite the post beginning with the word “And,” it’s coming out of nowhere — probably also for Atlus’ PR team.)

Rumors of a Persona 4 remake have been floating around for a while now; Persona 3 Reload just came out in 2024, and it only makes sense for there to be another remake coming down the road for the next game in the series. Furthermore, Persona 3 Reload featured recast voice actors for the main characters, so recasting the voice actors in Persona 4 would also be par for the course.

Polygon has reached out to Atlus and to Lowenthal for comment and will update this story with any further details we receive.
