The Sonos Era 300 is 20 percent off in this home speaker sale
Product Reviews

The Sonos Era 300 is on sale for 20 percent off right now

by admin June 5, 2025

Sonos is selling a bunch of its speakers at a discount on its own site and Amazon. This includes the well-regarded Era 300 smart speaker, which is down to just $359. That’s 20 percent off and notable because this particular speaker rarely goes on sale. It’s a Sonos miracle!

The deal applies to both the black and white colorways. The Era 300 is a highly capable device that we praised in our official review, saying that it “sounds excellent.” We went on to say that it offers a premium experience that far surpasses other products in the company’s lineup, like the Era 100. This is also true when compared to rival speakers like Apple’s HomePod.

Sonos

It’s simple to set up and offers the company’s proprietary Trueplay tuning system. This feature optimizes the sound of the speaker to the unique acoustics of a room by leveraging an internal microphone. It measures how sound reflects off surfaces and adjusts the EQ to match. It’s pretty nifty.

As for connectivity, it can pair with another Era 300 speaker for a true stereo experience. It also includes a Bluetooth receiver and line-in options. Of course, the speaker integrates with just about every streaming music service. The built-in mic also allows for voice assistant control, but only with Siri and Alexa. Google Assistant is left out of the party.

This speaker goes all-in on spatial audio, and the results are mixed. Sometimes it’s sublime and sometimes it’s kind of eh. This is more of a dig on the technology itself. It has serious potential but is still experiencing growing pains. The only real downside of this speaker is the exorbitant asking price, which has been slightly alleviated by this sale.

As previously mentioned, other Sonos products are available at a discount. This includes the Sonos Beam Gen 2 soundbar, which is 26 percent off at $369. These deals are available via Sonos itself. There’s also an ongoing sale on portable speakers that includes the Move 2 and the Roam 2.

Anker portable chargers are on sale for up to 50 percent off

by admin June 5, 2025

Anker’s latest sale on Amazon includes a bunch of solid power banks and charging accessories. Key among them is the Anker 737 portable laptop charger, which is 41 percent off and down to $88. That’s the best price we’ve seen all year so far, and it’s only about $8 more than its record-low price.

The 737 is a 24,000mAh charger that can juice up a laptop, but also works with other devices like smartphones, tablets and virtual reality headsets. The design is similar to our favorite premium power bank. This one, however, includes a trio of ports, making it a great option for multi-device charging.

Anker

Anker says the battery is large enough to charge an iPhone 16 Pro over four times before requiring a refill. Beefier devices, like the newest iPad Pro or MacBook Pro, will get just over a single charge. This is a portable device, with a nice form factor that makes it easy to pack. However, it is on the heavier side.

The Anker MagGo 621 magnetic charger is also on sale for $30, which is a discount of 25 percent. This one attaches to the back of a smartphone to provide more juice. The deal applies to multiple colorways. Alternatively, you can pick up this Anker 10K power bank for only $13, or half off its usual price. It’s roughly the size of a credit card and has a built-in USB-C cable — both of which make it an excellent option for on-the-go power ups. This is a lightning deal, though, so you’ll want to grab it while you can.

A number of Sonos speakers are on sale right now at Sonos direct and Amazon. This includes the well-regarded Era 300 smart speaker, which is on sale for $359. This particular model is one of Sonos’ newest, and it has rarely gone on sale in the past.

We enjoyed the Era 300 enough to give it a score of 80 in our review. It has excellent sound quality and offers a premium experience that far surpasses other products in the company’s lineup, even the Era 100. This is also true when compared to rival speakers like Apple’s HomePod.

Germany is considering a 10 percent digital service tax on US tech giants

by admin May 29, 2025

Under new Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Germany could impose a new 10 percent tax on major online platforms such as Google and Facebook. Reuters reported that political factions in the country struck a deal earlier this year to pursue these fees for digital service companies.

“These corporations do billions in business in Germany with extremely high profit margins and benefit enormously from the country’s media and cultural output as well as its infrastructure — but they pay hardly any taxes, invest too little, and give far too little back to society,” Germany’s Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer said of the draft rule during an interview with the magazine Stern.

Other nations around the world have also explored and enacted taxes on online revenue generated by the largest internet tech companies. Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, India, Austria and Canada have similar legislation to the draft rule Germany’s culture minister is proposing, according to Reuters.

If the tax is passed, Germany could see retaliation from President Donald Trump’s administration. Trump had said in February that he would seek tariffs on nations that impose a digital service tax on US tech businesses.

MasterClass subscriptions are 40 percent off for Memorial Day

Get up to 40 percent off for Memorial Day

by admin May 26, 2025

Memorial Day sales are in full swing, bringing discounts to headphones, vacuums, smart home gear and even some subscription services. One of the latter is on MasterClass memberships, which are up to 40 percent off for the holiday. From May 22 to 26, you can sign up for one year for as low was $72. Just make sure to subscribe before the end of Memorial Day itself to take advantage of the discount.

When you take a MasterClass course, one of the world’s top experts guides you through a series of videos on how to approach their craft. The Memorial Day deal drops the cost of a Standard subscription to $6 per month when billed annually, which comes out to $72 in total. That gives you access to more than 200 courses for a year, though you can only watch them on a device connected to the internet. It makes an excellent gift for someone you love — or for yourself.

MasterClass

The MasterClass Memorial Day Sale takes 40 percent off 12-month subscriptions.

$72 at MasterClass

MasterClass is also discounting its higher tiers for Memorial Day. With a Plus subscription, you can watch MasterClass courses on two devices at once, and download them to watch offline whenever you want. A Premium subscription boosts the number of devices to six. The latter also includes access to MasterClass On Call, which lets you chat with AI recreations of MasterClass experts (Although, as our review notes, that feature still needs a bit of polishing.)

After you’ve wowed your friends and family with your new grilling skills, MasterClass has plenty of other lessons that you can explore to continue your education. Creative writers can check out the BBC Maestro course that “resurrects” Agatha Christie, using her notes, an actress and AI rendering to teach the art of crafting a killer mystery. The platform also just launched a 20-episode series on healthy skin, featuring a panel of accredited dermatologists and cosmeticians.

Sonos portable speakers are up to 25 percent off for Memorial Day

by admin May 25, 2025

Sonos’ speakers are known for their premium price tags, but if you’re looking for a more affordable entry-point to the ecosystem, you can get up to 25 percent off some of the company’s portable speakers and speaker bundles for Memorial Day. That includes $113 off the Sonos Move 2, which brings the speaker’s price down from $449 to $336.

The Sonos Move 2 was introduced in 2023 as the more expensive follow-up to the original Move, Sonos’ first “portable” speaker. You can argue over it’s portability — the Move 2 makes more sense as something your carry to your backyard than take on a hike — but the speaker packs a punch and lets you play music over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. We liked the Sonos Move 2 when we originally reviewed it, but took issue with how expensive it was, so this sale helps make splurging on it more palatable.

Sonos

Sonos’ powerful portable speaker is available for $339, $113 off its normal price.

$336 at Sonos

If you’re looking for something even more portable and affordable, the Sonos Roam 2 is also on sale for $45 off. Like the Move 2, the speaker has the ability to connect to a smartphone over Bluetooth outside while still being able to hook into your larger Sonos sound system over Wi-Fi at home. The Sonos Roam 2 offers some key improvements to the original Roam’s design, too, like new colors and easier to understand buttons, while still providing the company’s signature sound profile and 10 hours of battery life.

On top of the two speakers, you could also buy a bundle of a speaker and an accessory, like the Sonos Roam 2 and an OtterBox case, or a bundle of multiple speakers. You can get two Roam 2’s for $268 or a Sonos Roam 2 and Sonos Move 2 for $479, for example.

Sonos has faced issues in the last year ironing out software problems — the bugs and missing features were so bad the company’s CEO stepped down — but the fundamentals of how the company’s speakers sound have remained great. With the ship mostly righted on the software side of things, a sale is a great time to see what all of the fuss is about.

Trump threatens a 25 percent tariff on all smartphones not made in the US

by admin May 24, 2025

After threatening Apple with a 25 percent tariff unless the company found a way to move iPhone production to the US, Bloomberg reports that President Donald Trump wants the tariff applied to other phone makers, too.

“It would be also Samsung and anybody that makes that product, otherwise it wouldn’t be fair,” Trump said in a White House press conference following his earlier Truth Social post threatening the new tariff. “So anybody that makes that product, and that’ll start on, I guess, the end of June.” That means Samsung, Google, and other phone makers selling smartphones in the US would also need to find a way to move production state-side, something most experts says is economically unfeasible.

While Trump’s announcement lacks detail in the way many of his potentially world-altering decisions do, it does fit with the larger plan outlined in earlier tariff announcements. When electronics like smartphones were initially exempted from the larger 125 percent tariff on goods from China, it was with the promise that they would eventually be subjected to “semiconductor sectoral tariffs” at some point in the future. This new 25 percent tariff could be just that.

The Trump administration has been focused on the idea of a US-manufactured iPhone for months now, but this renewed attention stems from reporting that Apple has been trying to transition iPhone manufacturing to India to avoid the worst of the global trade war. That seems like its going to get even trickier unless Trump decides on another pause or changes his mind on tariffs yet again.

9 Great Switch Games Are Up to 80 Percent Off This Weekend

by admin May 23, 2025

Image: Nintendo / CD Projekt Red / Kotaku

Memorial Day weekend invites important questions like what to marinate the kebobs in, whether it’s warm enough to put the pool up or not, and which new game you should buy while continuing to ignore your backlog. The Switch eShop currently has a few sales running that are worth a quick peek while waiting for the 45 minutes of coming attractions ahead of Mission Impossible 8 to end.

Fallout Season 2 Teaser Confirms Lucy and Ghoul are Heading to New Vegas

If you’re looking at physical Switch games, there are a few good deals going around at the moment. Advance Wars 1 and 2 Re-Boot Camp is currently just $30 at GameStop (half off) while Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is just $40 (33 percent off) at Amazon. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Catherine: Full Body, and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster are all heavily discounted as well at VGP.

Meanwhile, in the digital world of the eShop, the following games are all great and pretty cheap right now:

  • Prince of Persia The Lost Crown – $20 (50 percent off)
  • It Takes Two – $20 (50 percent off)
  • Tales of Kenzera: ZAU – $8 (60 percent off)
  • Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak Deluxe – $20 (71 percent off)
  • Dead Cells – $12.50 (50 percent off)
  • Penny’s Big Breakaway – $15 (50 percent off)
  • Doom 2016 – $4 (80 percent off)
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition – $15 (75 percent off)
  • Rayman Legends Definitive Edition – $8 (80 percent off)

The Witcher 3 port is just short of ugly on Switch, but if you have no other way to play the grim fantasy RPG it’s well worth picking up, especially on the game’s 10th anniversary. Doom 2016 runs and looks better, and should help sate the urge to rip and tear for Nintendo fans who can’t access Doom: The Dark Ages. If you just want a fun, colorful throwback to pass the time, my suggestion is Penny’s Big Breakaway, one of last year’s great unsung Dreamcast 3D platformer homages.

There are two other Switch games that are only slightly on sale but might be of interest. The Chrono Trigger-like Sea of Stars is currently $22.75 (around 30 percent off), but just got a big free Throes of the Watchmaker DLC that adds a new eight-hour quest, additional character, and more classes. Labyrinth of the Demon King, meanwhile, is a lo-fi horror dungeon crawler that just came out last week and is already turning heads. It’s $16 this week (20 percent off). If you’re interested in what might end up on the list of 2025’s most overlooked games, I’d give this one a shot.
