Epic pulls controversial Peacemaker dance emote from Fortnite following big twist in the TV show's latest episode

Epic confirms “no creative intentions” connecting controversial Fortnite emote with Peacemaker TV show

by admin October 3, 2025

Epic is modifying a Peacemaker emote that was removed from Fortnite earlier this week due to its inclusion of controversial dance moves.

The removal came after the TV show’s most recent episode included a major twist. While the emote was added earlier in September, in retrospect the dance moves clearly imitate a swastika.

What made this more remarkable is that Warner Bros. and Epic agreed on the collaboration before the episode aired, but the Fortnite-maker seemingly wasn’t forewarned of the show’s twist.

In a new statement on social media, Epic has confirmed there were “no creative intentions” in linking the Peaceful Hips Emote to the storyline of the show.

However, it’s modifying the dance in next week’s update, though players are able to get a refund if preferred.

The statement in full reads: “We’ve worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Games to confirm there were no creative intentions to connect the Peaceful Hips Emote and the current Peacemaker storyline. To avoid any confusion, we’re modifying the Emote choreography in next week’s update. If they prefer, players can return the Emote without using a ticket.”

Presumably, then, this won’t impact future collaborations between the two companies.

Yesterday, Epic announced its latest collaboration is with the popular Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, with game modes and character skins included. Sounds golden!

Fortnite insists it wasn’t stitched up by Warner Bros. and the Peacemaker emote, but is modifying it anyway ‘to avoid any confusion’

by admin October 2, 2025

Last week, Fortnite pulled the Peaceful Hips emote—which recreated a portion of the opening dance in James Gunn’s DC show Peacemaker—after the latest episode’s bombshell completely changed the context around the movement.

After Epic said it would “inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote,” it’s now determined that Warner Bros. most definitely was not trying to stitch the developer up. But, you know, it’s changing the emote anyway. Just to be safe.

Warning: spoilers for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6 ahead!

Related articles

The Peaceful Hips emote was added to the Fortnite store earlier in September, before being promptly removed just a few days after Peacemaker’s sixth episode of its second season aired. The reason? Well, the episode revealed a pretty major plot twist: John Cena’s character has been milling around in a seemingly-perfect alternate universe… which turned out to be an America that lost to Germany in World War 2. An all-white America, a swastika in place of the American flag’s stars. A Nazi utopia, essentially.

The revelation gave some rather damning new context to the goofy dance number Peacemaker performs in the show’s opening—at one point, he’s seen flapping his arms in a way that could be perceived as resembling a swastika. More importantly, the move seems to be an exact replica of one performed by Donald Duck in the anti-Nazi propaganda short film Der Fuehrer’s Face from 1942.

That also happens to be the exact snippet used for the Peaceful Hips emote. You see the problem here.

Now, in a follow-up post, the Fortnite Status X account wrote: “We’ve worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Games to confirm there were no creative intentions to connect the Peaceful Hips emote and the current Peacemaker storyline. To avoid any confusion, we’re modifying the Emote choreography in next week’s update.” Epic says that players who purchased the emote prior to its removal are free to return it without spending any refund tickets.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Presumably the updated emote will take a slightly less damning portion of the dance, while still being from the second season’s choreography.

Ultimately it’s probably the best move for Epic, even though the response as to whether it’s a necessary move is mixed. Removing the implication entirely is likely to save the developer a massive headache—and even if that wasn’t the emote’s intention, it was most certainly going to be exploited in that manner. Will that go away even after an alteration? Who knows

Peacemaker Fortnite Dance Will Come Back Different After Nazi Concerns

by admin October 1, 2025

Peacemaker’s dance emote will return to Fortnite now that Epic Games is satisfied it had nothing to do with Nazi imagery. Following the reveal of the HBO show’s recent season 2 twist, the company implied it was concerned the dance moves intentionally recreated a swastika. The emote will now return next week, with modified animations.

“We’ve worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Games to confirm there were no creative intentions to connect the Peaceful Hips Emote and the current Peacemaker storyline,” the Fortnite account on X posted on Wednesday. “To avoid any confusion, we’re modifying the Emote choreography in next week’s update. If they prefer, players can return the Emote without using a ticket.”

Spoiler warning: we’re about to mention some major plot points from Peacemaker season 2.

This whole thing started after the alternate universe that John Cena’s Chris Smith has been exploring this season was revealed to be one in which Hitler’s Germany won WWII and America is now run by Nazis. If you then went back and looked at the  dance in the Peaceful Hips Fortnite emote, which is supposed to be the one Cena does in the season 2 intro, you can sort of see that maybe there’s a swastika in there somewhere if you overlay multiple freeze frames.

Epic Games then pulled the emote and said it would investigate to see if this had been done by someone at Warner Bros. on purpose. It seems the company is now satisfied that it was just an unintended coincidence. But what fans really want to know is if the dance will actually sync up to the music this time the way it’s choreographed in the show. We’ll know when the emote returns during Fortnite‘s reset next week on October 9.

Epic pulls controversial Peacemaker dance emote from Fortnite following big twist in the TV show’s latest episode

by admin September 29, 2025

Epic has pulled a Peacemaker dance emote from battle royale Fortnite, after the latest episode of the TV show proves just how controversial that dance is.

Spoiler warning for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6

The Peaceful Hips emote was added to Fortnite earlier this month, which features John Cena’s character hip-thrusting and holding his arms in rigid 90 degree angles.

Now, though, it’s been removed, with refunds likely to be issued in the next few days. “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote,” reads a social post from Fortnite. “Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”

Why so controversial? Well it turns out, as revealed in the latest episode, Peacemaker has been living in an alternate dimension where Nazis won World War 2 and the American flag’s stars have been swapped for swastika.

And looking at the dance emote in retrospect, yeah, it’s pretty obviously imitating swastika.

What’s most remarkable about this is that Warner Bros. agreed on the collaboration with Epic, but seemingly didn’t forewarn them of the emote’s true meaning. Perhaps they were worried about spoilers leaking ahead of the episode airing last week.

Peacemaker writer and director James Gunn posted earlier this month about Peacemaker’s inclusion in Fortnite, adding “check out his bundle, complete with Peacemaker’s best friend Eagly and a peace-spreading, hip-swaying emote or two ;)” – that winky face is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Nobody wants nazi symbolism in their kid-friendly battle royale, but it’s not just the TV show’s viewers who have been duped by a big twist.

Could this impact any future collaborations between Epic and Warner Bros.? Eurogamer has contacted Epic to find out.

Leaks have suggested Sonic and Shadow will be headed to Fortnite in some form soon, though hopefully will prove less controversial.

‘Fortnite’ Ditches ‘Peacemaker’ Emote After the Show’s Big Reveal

by admin September 29, 2025

This week’s Peacemaker episode ended with a twist fans have been calling for weeks, and now it’s affecting the show’s Fortnite presence.

At the end of Thursday’s “Ignorance is Chris,” the 11th Street Kids go to find Chris in the alternate universe he’s been hanging around in. Turns out it’s the Nazi dimension, made clear by Adebayo getting chased down by white people and the swastika in place of the 50 stars on the American flag. On Saturday night, Epic Games revealed it was disabling the “Peacemaker Hips” emote while it “inquires into our partner’s creative intentions. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days.”

The “Hips” emoji references the show’s season two intro, which has its cast flap their arms up and down in a way that makes them look like swastikas. That dance may also have been hiding the Nazi twist in plain sight (boy, what a sentence), so Epic’s spent two weeks potentially unaware that it was charging people 400 V-bucks (or $3.29) to make their characters dance like Nazis. At time of writing, neither WB or James Gunn have commented on the emote being disabled.

Fortnite’s no stranger to emote-related controversy, but the apparent secrecy behind the Peacemaker dance’s intent makes this all so fascinating from different angles. Is Gunn and WB at fault for not giving Epic a heads up about the meaning, or did the developer not do its job in properly vetting it? Is this just what happens as IP collaborations become so normalized, which Fortnite itself has had a hand in? The aftermath of this will be interesting to watch play out, and probably make the emote itself feel like an important part of the game’s ever-evolving life.

Fortnite removes controversial Peacemaker emote while investigating “creative intentions”

by admin September 28, 2025

Epic Games has removed the Peacemaker Season 2 Peaceful Hips emote from Fortnite following controversy around its design.

Peacemaker, the DC series starring John Cena, first aired in 2022 with its over-the-top dance intro quickly becoming a signature part of the show. The sequence changes slightly across episodes and has been described by director James Gunn as a deliberate storytelling device that hints at characters and themes, with Season 1 even foreshadowing its villain through butterfly-like movements.

The collaboration between Peacemaker and Fortnite introduced cosmetics inspired by the series, including the Peaceful Hips emote. The dance was based on the Season 2 intro, where Cena waves his arms in exaggerated motions. However, some fans noticed that the arm shapes resembled half a swastika, which they speculated was another example of the show teasing its antagonist through choreography.

While it has not been confirmed whether the swastika-like design was intentional or a coincidence, Epic is investigating the matter. Given that the show’s previous season used similar dance cues to foreshadow its villain, many fans believe the gesture was deliberate. If that’s the case, the emote is unlikely to ever return to Fortnite, with refunds already set to be processed for players who purchased it.

If that’s the case, then Peacemaker’s emote will join the likes of Rue and the Washington “Redskins” outfits, which have been removed from Fortnite for being potentially offensive to others.

James Gunn Explains Why That ‘Superman’ Cameo on ‘Peacemaker’ Wasn’t Who You Hoped

by admin September 27, 2025

If you watched the latest episode of the HBO Max original and DC Studios series Peacemaker, the question on every Superman fan’s mind has been answered by James Gunn. We finally know who shows up to help Rick Flag Sr. and ARGUS course-correct Peacemaker’s whole portal door to Earth X (Nazi America) ordeal, leading into the show’s finale.

However, if you haven’t watched, a spoiler warning is ahead!

© Warner Bros.

When it came down to who to get help from with finding the 11th Street Kids and where they took the portal, ARGUS director Rick Flag Sr. went to the most powerful villain they have in their pocket (jail cell). And that, of course, is Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who has a big price to use his tech to track down Peacemaker and friends.

In an interview with Variety, director and DC head James Gunn discussed the cameo that many thought would be David Corenswet as Superman and why it’s not (despite a certain Peacemaker x Supes selfie). Gunn even went as far as squashing our hopes to see an Earth X or Earth-1 Man of Steel, telling the trade, “No,” to the possibility: “In fact, David was very upset that Nick got to be on the show, and he didn’t. It just didn’t work.”

So no Nazi Superman, which in a way is a relief because we don’t want to tarnish the feel-good way Corenswet opened his era as the hero.

Gunn continued to explain why he needed Hoult back: “I needed Lex in the show to serve a specific purpose. And actually, what Lex and Rick Flag are up to affects very much what happens in an aspect of Man of Tomorrow. So all of that is connected. But this relationship between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor is a potentially negative thing for Superman and all meta-humans.”

He also discussed that it has all been in alignment with his plans for DC Studios as part of his universe reset pitch from the get-go. “I didn’t know some things about it, but I knew what the overall story of the DCU was. That was something I pitched to [Warner Bros. Discovery CEO] David Zaslav before we even took the job. I’m like, here’s the story. There’s going to be this movie, this show, this movie, this show, and those things all fit in in different ways. Some things came, like Clayface, that we didn’t expect, and other things have been a harder road to travel. But the general outline of that overall story is what we are following through Superman, Peacemaker, Man of Tomorrow, and beyond.”

Peacemaker Season 2 needs to answer a big ‘Earth X’ question about Superman

by admin September 26, 2025

It’s official: the alternate dimension in Peacemaker Season 2 is ‘Earth X’ (or a version of it), and now that’s been revealed, we need to talk about Superman. Spoilers to follow…

Until Episode 6, everything seemed so much better in the other world. Chris’ dad is nice and caring, his brother is still alive, Harcourt is in love with him, and Peacemaker didn’t murder Rick Flag Jr.

However, as many have predicted, its dark secret has been revealed: it’s Earth X, a parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II. That means there’s a swastika on the American flag instead of stars and there aren’t any people of color walking on the streets (it remains terrifyingly unclear where they are, if there are any at all).

Article continues after ad

So, everyone is a Nazi, and the Top Trio are beloved superheroes. Where does that leave other characters… like Superman?

Will Peacemaker Season 2 include Overman?

DC

Peacemaker has yet to reveal if there are any parallel versions of other DCU characters, like Lex Luthor or Rick Flag. However, now we know that it’s Earth X, the show could include a Superman cameo with a shocking twist.

In the comics, Earth X has its own version of Superman: Overman, also known as Kal-L. His origins are very similar: he comes from Krypton, his parents send him to Earth, but he lands in Sudetenland instead of Kansas, and he ends up becoming the most powerful ‘hero’ at the helm of the Fourth Reich.

Article continues after ad

“My rocket from Krypton arrived in a field in the occupied Sudetenland in 1938. German rocket scientists retro-engineered the technology Herr Hitler used to win the war, and I… I and my kind inherited a Utopia built on human suffering. Mine is not any world you know,” he says in the comics.

It’s been widely speculated that Corenswet will appear in Season 2, especially after John Cena posted a selfie with him from the set. Gunn has also teased “one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.”

To be clear, Corenswet’s normal Superman could still appear; if Chris returns to his own world, what better way to make him feel welcome than the world’s mightiest hero patting him on the back?

However, it’s hard to deny how effective (and scary) it’d be to see Corenswet as a Nazi version of the Man of Steel, even if it’s brief.

“It’ll be peak if we see David Corenswet as Overman in the finale,” one viewer wrote. “This is gonna sound crazy but hear me out, I need an Overman appearance in Peacemaker so f**king bad,” another commented.

James Gunn May Have Spoiled Some ‘Superman’ Stars Coming to the ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Finale

by admin September 24, 2025

As Peacemaker‘s second season has been unfolding, its final stretch of episodes has been kept under lock and key to prevent spoilers from spreading online. Only the first five episodes (of eight total) were sent to reviewers, specifically because DC Studios head honcho James Gunn didn’t want to ruin any big moments. That includes not telling his publicist what’s what. Which makes the whole secrecy surrounding Peacemaker season two’s finale all the more ironic, as Gunn wound up spoiling it himself.

According to GamesRadar+, in the director’s commentary of Superman, Gunn revealed that he recycled a set from the film where government authority figures were trying to figure out what to do with the Kryptonian, teasing that some other Superman characters would be making their return in Peacemaker.

“The Saturday after we did [this Superman scene], we shot a scene from Peacemaker [season two] episode eight, because it had a lot of the same cast from Superman,” Gunn said. “It had James [Hiroyuki Liao] as Mori and Frank [Grillo] as Rick Flag, and then a couple of other people. I think this will have already aired when this director’s commentary comes out, but I’m not sure actually—I’ll leave the secrets there.”

Seeing as how Gunn went on record to say that Superman‘s digital release came way uncharacteristically early to make way for Peacemaker, Gunn being the inception point of spilling the beans on a Superman spoiler, however vauge, is almost ironic given he’s had to do damange control from rampant DC Studios rumors about film plots telling fans to chill out and not believe anything unless it comes from him.

While Gunn doesn’t go on to outright reveal whether those other people would be Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor or David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, who are already poised for an uncanny team-up in the sequel Superman film Man of Tomorrow, there’s enough evidence to suggest that at least the latter will make an appearance in Peacemaker.

The above whoopsie daisy on Gunn’s part retroactively made a seemingly innocuous post from Corenswet, made earlier this month, seem less like a passing of the torch from Superman to Peacemaker as DC Studios’ new obsession, and more like a straight-up spoiler in plain sight, all but confirming his appearance. At the time, Corenswet’s post was characterized online as him visiting the Peacemaker set while shooting Superman and taking a quick candid photo with John Cena to drum up hype for the show.

Given Peacemaker‘s track record of wasting no time to reveal Cena’s Christopher Smith is not a huge fan of big blue in its opening scene, retconning the Justice Gang appearing instead of the Justice League in its season one finale, the likelihood the two will square off at some point in Peacemaker‘s safeguarded season two finale feels all but assured.

Another piece of evidence supporting this theory is James Gunn’s own wife and Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland, who revealed to Phase Hero podcast that the final three episodes would have significant implications for the rebooted DC universe moving forward. Gunn shared the same sentiment, saying this season would “directly” tie into Man of Tomorrow in the same interview. Still, Gunn acquiesced to not wanting the big moment to be spoiled.

“It could mean they’re terrible,” Gunn said on the Phase Hero podcast. “That is one option. Or it could mean that there’s a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes… I really don’t want what’s in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I’m keeping them close to the chest. I won’t even let my publicist see them. That’s the god’s honest truth.”

Whatever the case, Superman fans will have to tune in to Peacemaker and find out if Clark Kent, Lex Luthor, or any other prominent cast members will make an appearance when new episodes of the show air on Thursday night on HBO Max.

Peacemaker season 2 makes a big change to Sasha Bordeaux’s DC comic book origins story, and some fans might not like it

by admin September 19, 2025

  • Peacemaker season 2 episode 5 has made its streaming debut
  • It puts a major twist to Sasha Bordeaux’s origins story in the comics
  • The change was necessary for one major reason

Peacemaker season 2 episode 5 has landed on HBO Max and other streaming services, and the show’s latest chapter makes a major change to Sasha Bordeaux’s backstory from the comics.

Until now, most viewers knew little about the ARGUS agent portrayed by Sol Rodriguez. But, thanks to a couple of key scenes in this season’s fifth entry, titled ‘Back to the Suture’, Bordeaux isn’t as much of an enigma as she’s been presented as.

Full spoilers immediately follow for Peacemaker season 2 episode 5, titled ‘Back to the Suture’.

This is the face that some fans might pull when they learn about Bordeaux’s altered backstory (Image credit: DC Studios/HBO Max)

The first major revelation about Bordeaux emerges during the stand-off between Chris Smith and the ARGUS agents trying to arrest him at Kupperberg Park. None of the assembled group have a clear shot on their target because Smith has taken Agent Clyne hostage and has draped them across his shoulders to use as a protective shield.

Cue Bordeaux’s intervention. Informing ARGUS chief Rick Flag Sr that Smith is locked into a turning pattern – essentially, Smith’s moving in a circle on the spot to keep tabs on the approaching personnel – she says she has a clear shot and, if she takes it, it’ll be fatal.

Yep, Bordeaux isn’t completely human (Image credit: DC Studios/HBO Max)

In a move that’ll surprise many viewers, it’s revealed Bordeaux is actually part-android; her robotic right eye and 0.002% miss rate calculation being the clear giveaways.

Luckily for Smith, Emilia Harcourt makes a last-second intervention that prevents Bordeaux from killing the titular anti-hero. Okay, he’s subdued, arrested and carted off to ARGUS headquarters to, as we later see, be heavily beaten by Flag Sr, but at least the metahuman known as Peacemaker isn’t actually dead. Hey, you take the wins where you can.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

Anyway, back at ARGUS, Harcourt reunites with John Economos and persuades him to ‘book’ Smith so there’s an arrest record, which will prevent Flag Sr from making Smith ‘disappear’ – i.e. bumping him off.

It’s during this conversation that we learn more about Bordeaux, with Economos revealing she’s a cyborg. Continuing, Economos says that, following a near-fatal plane crash, ARGUS replaced half of her body, which had been mangled in said disaster, with machinery and other technology to save her life.

Why Sasha Bordeaux’s origin story needed to be changed in Peacemaker season 2

Some DC devotees might be wondering why Bordeaux’s backstory needed to be changed (Image credit: HBO Max/YouTube)

Bordeaux’s origin story in the DC Universe (DCU) isn’t wholly dissimilar to part of her backstory in the comics. Indeed, Bordeaux is turned into a type of cyborg known as OMAC (Omni Mind and Community or, to use the original abbreviation, Observational Metahuman Activity Construct). OMACs are humans who’ve been turned into robots by a virus created by Maxwell Lord to kill metahumans.

You may like

However, Bordeaux’s origins needed to be tweaked for Peacemaker season 2 – and, by proxy, the DCU – for one big reason: Batman.

In the comics, Bordeaux is initially introduced as a secret service agent-turned-private contractor who’s hired as the head of Bryce Wayne’s security team. Without getting into the nitty-gritty of her entire arc to date, Bordeaux *deep breath* learns Wayne is Batman, starts patrolling Gotham City alongside him, falls in love with the Caped Crusader, is co-framed for the murder of Wayne’s ex-girlfriend, almost dies in prison, joins the government agency known as Checkmate, rises through that group’s ranks, and eventually becomes said cyborg.

Sasha Bordeaux’s origins story in the DCU differs from her literary counterpart (Image credit: DC Comics)

Considering The Dark Knight hasn’t been fully introduced in the DCU yet – we know he’s already active, though, due to his silhouetted cameo in Creature Commandos episode 6 – a lot of heavy lifting would’ve been required on Peacemaker‘s part to explain Bordeaux’s comic-accurate backstory. In that sense, simplifying her origins in the DCU was the best option available to James Gunn and company.

This doesn’t mean Bordeaux couldn’t cross paths with The Dark Knight in another DCU Chapter One project. We already know that a Batman movie, currently titled The Brave and the Bold, is in early development at DC Studios. Speaking to TechRadar ahead of Peacemaker’s return, Rodriguez admitted she’d love to appear in The Brave and the Bold, but had no idea whether Gunn would include her as part of its cast.

Of course, in order to meet Batman, Bordeaux needs to survive the final three episodes of one of the best HBO Max shows’ second season. Given Gunn’s penchant for killing off characters willy-nilly, there’s no guarantee that she’ll make it to the end, either.

Anyway, what do you think about this reframing of Bordeaux’s origins tale? Does it work? Are you upset that it doesn’t follow her literary backstory ad verbatim? Let me know in the comments.
