SEC Chair Atkins reaffirms promise to end ambiguity in crypto regulation.

‘Very few cryptocurrencies are securities:’ SEC Chair Paul Atkins

by admin August 21, 2025

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins recently clarified that only a very small number of cryptocurrencies qualify as securities.

Summary

  • SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has clarified that only a very small number of cryptocurrencies qualify as securities.
  • The approach marks a significant shift from former Chair Gary Gensler’s stricter stance and anti-industry policies.

During his speech at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2025, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins commented on the classification of cryptocurrencies, saying most tokens are not securities.

According to him, whether a cryptocurrency is considered a security depends on how it is “packaged and sold,” rather than its inherent characteristics.

“Just the token itself is not necessarily a security, and probably not,” he said, “There are very few, in my view, tokens that are securities, but it depends on what’s the package around it and how that’s being sold.”

Atkins’ remarks represent a significant shift from the approach adopted by former SEC Chair Gary Gensler, who classified the majority of crypto assets under U.S. securities law. Gensler’s stance led to widespread enforcement actions against the industry, creating a hostile regulatory environment.

Since his appointment in April, Atkins has consistently stressed that the industry deserves regulatory clarity, adopting a more welcoming and non-hostile approach to regulations. His latest remarks also build on broader positive regulatory developments in recent months, including the formation of a new pro-industry initiative called “Project Crypto.”

What is Project Crypto?

Earlier in July, Atkins announced the launch of ‘Project Crypto’ by the SEC. The project aims to create clear rules for crypto distributions, custody, and trading, providing businesses with guidance on token offerings and overall operations.

While final regulations are still being developed, Atkins said the SEC would consider using interpretative, exemptive, and other authorities to ensure that outdated rules do not stifle innovation.

The efforts come as the Trump administration continues to push to maintain the United States’ dominance in global digital asset markets, with a separate Working Group on Digital Assets also calling for a unified framework that promotes innovation. The U.S. House also recently passed three landmark bills relating to the industry, including the GENIUS Act, the first official federal framework for stablecoins.

Atkins added recently that the SEC is also focused on protecting the industry from future challenges such as regulatory overreach or unfair enforcement, highlighting the need for rules that are clear, adaptable, and capable of supporting innovation over the long term.

“We must craft a framework that future proofs the crypto markets against regulatory mischief. I look forward to working with my counterparts across the Administration and Congress to get the job done,” he wrote.

Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis book Nov. 14 boxing match in Atlanta

Two of the biggest names in boxing will clash on Nov. 14 when Jake Paul faces Gervonta “Tank” Davis at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, the two sides confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The contracted weight for the fight and number of rounds has yet to be determined. The fight will be promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and streamed live globally on Netflix.

Talks between both parties have been ongoing since the beginning of the year, and there were initially plans to move forward with the fight after Davis’ WBA lightweight title defense against Lamont Roach Jr. However, those plans were put on hold after Roach and Davis battled to a shocking majority draw in March. Rumors of a rematch taking place in August never came to fruition, and the two sides picked up on their earlier negotiations, finalizing a deal for the fight to happen in November.

“The original timeline assumed that ‘Tank’ would be fighting Jake [Paul] after he fought Roach,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN. “The outcome didn’t necessarily change anything per se, but our timeline of waiting around to see what Davis was going to do resulted in Jake fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.”

Although initial reports suggested that Paul secured a fight with Davis after discussions for a heavyweight tilt with former unified champion Anthony Joshua fell apart, Bidarian told ESPN that the Joshua fight is still on the table and was never planned to take place in 2025.

“I think it’s just a matter of hitting ‘Go,'” Bidarian said about the ongoing negotiations for Paul-Joshua in 2026. “Jake is looking at it like he wants to show the world that he’s going to fight David and then he plans to take on Goliath.”

As for the upcoming fight, with such a significant disparity in weight with Paul tipping the scales at 199.4 pounds for his fight with Chavez at cruiserweight and Davis weighing 133.8 pounds when he faced Roach, there are ongoing conversations about what weight the fight will be contested at.

“We’re still figuring that out,” Bidarian said, while not committing to the fight being an exhibition as reported by other outlets. “Jake will definitely have to come down below his 200-pound weight that he’s been fighting at. I can tell you that we’re going to have a fight that will have a definitive outcome, whether by way of knockout or decision.”

The weight disparity draws striking similarities to the exhibition fight between Paul’s older brother, Logan, and Floyd Mayweather in June 2021. Mayweather, who spent much of his career at 147 pounds, weighed in at 155 pounds while Paul weighed 189.5 pounds. No winner was declared in the eight-round exhibition that reportedly sold over 1 million pay-per-view buys and generated over $80 million in revenue.

Paul-Davis will be shown to a much larger audience on Netflix with higher stakes as Paul continues to prove himself as a full-time boxer.

Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) has been campaigning as a cruiserweight and is ranked 14th by the WBA following his one-sided decision over Chavez in June. His plans to be a world champion will be put on hold for a massive cultural event against Davis, whom he has targeted for a fight as early as August 2021 when he revealed a wish list of opponents on social media that included Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley, Tommy Fury, KSI and Canelo Alvarez.

“Gervonta is an angry little elf who has been disrespecting my name for too long,” Paul said in a statement to ESPN. “His nickname might be Tank, but I’m an FPV drone and I’m about to disable his ass. Yes, he is one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath, and you are all going watch me do it, breaking viewership records again. Atlanta. Friday, Nov 14th. The worst night of Gervonta’s career, live only on Netflix.”

Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is one of the biggest attractions in boxing but has never competed in a weight class higher than 140 pounds. He has fought at lightweight (135 pounds) in his past six fights, dating back to December 2021. His April 2023 fight with Ryan Garcia at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was a massive success at the box office with a reported $1.2 million PPV buys and a gate of $22.8 million, fifth-highest gate in U.S. boxing history. He has been engaging in a war of words with Paul on social media for several years and will look to put an end to their rivalry in November.

Davis, 30, was dealing with legal issues over the summer with a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day. Those charges were dropped last week. Davis will resume his boxing career against a former YouTuber who has also become one of the biggest names in boxing.

“This is a fight between the biggest fighters in the world for Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences,” Bidarian said. “It’s really about who is the true face of American boxing and I view it as The Disruptor [Paul] versus The Destroyer [Davis].”

Jake Paul fights Logan Paul’s wedding cake and the internet is baffled

by admin August 19, 2025

Jake Paul left the internet baffled after ‘fighting’ with Logan Paul and Nina Agdal’s wedding cake during their celebrations in Lake Como.

Influencer weddings have, for the longest time, left the internet skeptical. Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau got ‘married’ back in 2019, and charged fans to be able to watch it. The marriage was never legal, but the ceremony obviously had plenty of hijinks involved.

So, when Logan Paul announced that he and Nina Agdal were to get married, the internet raised a collective eyebrow at it. However, the pair did officially get married during a lavish, multi-million dollar celebration on Lake Como, Italy.

Naturally, plenty of content creators were invited, including Logan’s brother Jake. And it was the YouTuber-turned-fighter who stole the show after trading punches with the wedding cake. Seriously.

Jake Paul beats up Logan Paul’s wedding cake

After Logan and Nina tied the not, ‘The Maverick’ invited his brother towards the cake where he proceeded to launch ‘Jake vs Cake’ and a barrage of punches at it.

Logan could be seen hyping Jake up as he delivered the blows, with the pair embracing after the ‘Problem Child’ had thrown enough punches. Yet, the internet wasn’t sold on what had gone on.

“Oh look Jake Paul spent a lot of money to hit something that doesn’t hit back again,” one fan quipped. “Man… wtf ? Bro literally just fights anything,” another joked. “I kinda wanted a slice tho…,” Jake’s video editor even commented.

The moment will, no doubt, appear on Logan’s post-wedding vlog, and the pair might explain why they decided to beat up a helpless piece of confectionery.

We probably wouldn’t count it as a win on Jake’s boxing record, but some would argue that he has fought worse opponents than a literal cake tower.

CryptoZoo Suit Fails to Tie Logan Paul to Collapse: Judge

by admin August 19, 2025

YouTuber Logan Paul’s bid to dismiss a proposed class-action lawsuit over his defunct non-fungible token (NFT) project CryptoZoo should be allowed, says a Texas magistrate judge.

Magistrate Judge Ronald Griffin advised an Austin federal court on Thursday that the class group had not sufficiently tied Paul to their claims that they lost money by buying into the CryptoZoo project.

The recommendation could see a federal judge drop the suit unless the class updates it.

The group is made up of CryptoZoo buyers who first sued Paul and others allegedly tied to the project in February 2023, alleging it was a “rug pull” that promised perks which never materialized.

However, Griffin said the class should be allowed to amend all but one of their 27 claims against Paul, but said a claim alleging he committed commodity pool fraud should be permanently dismissed.

“Mental gymnastics” needed for commodity pool fraud claim

Judge Griffin said in his 75-page report that his recommendation to dismiss the lawsuit’s commodity pool fraud claim came as the court “does not follow Plaintiffs’ logic.”

The class argued that CryptoZoo NFTs were an option contract as they started as “eggs” that “hatch” into animals, which then can be bred with others to create hybrid animals that could be traded.

An example of a CryptoZoo NFT hybrid animal that is a cross between an elephant and a shark. Source: CryptoZoo

“In other words, because purchasers buy CZ [CryptoZoo] NFTs unaware of their value until they hatch, and because the CZ NFT animals can be bred with others to create hybrid NFTs, an option contract is thereby formed,” Judge Griffin wrote.

“The mental gymnastics required to come to this conclusion are truly dizzying,” he added. “Plaintiffs do not explain—nor can the Court understand—how their purchases of CZ NFTs create option contracts or contracts for future delivery.”

Other claims fail to tie in Paul

Judge Griffin said that the lawsuit failed to properly connect Paul to the 26 other claims made against him, saying they hadn’t yet shown evidence that he directly and personally benefited from CryptoZoo’s collapse.

The lawsuit brought claims of fraud, unjust enrichment, negligence, breach of contract, fraud conspiracy, aiding and abetting fraud and breaches of consumer law in multiple states, among others.

Judge Griffin said in some cases the complaint gave “only fragments of facts accompanied by vague attributions of conduct to ‘Defendants’” or looked to “jam together two pieces of different puzzles in the vain hope of producing a final, cohesive product.”

“Unfortunately, the caselaw does not support this tactic.”

Paul refunded CryptoZoo buyers

The class group sued Paul and CryptoZoo co-founders Eduardo Ibanez and Jake Greenbaum in 2021, and Paul alleged in January 2024 that the duo conned him, causing CryptoZoo’s collapse, which Judge Griffin urged the court in July to rebuff.

In January 2023, Paul promised to make a plan for CryptoZoo and put aside $2.3 million for refunds for CryptoZoo buyers a year later under the condition that claimants agreed not to sue over the project.

Buyers were refunded 0.1 Ether (ETH), the same amount the CryptoZoo NFTs were originally sold for in 2021.

Wrexham legend Paul Mullin leaves club on season-long loan deal

by admin June 24, 2025

Jun 23, 2025, 02:44 PM ET

Paul Mullin, the poster boy of a Wrexham team soaring through England’s football leagues following their takeover by Hollywood celebrities, has left the club to join League One side Wigan on a season-long loan deal.

“I’m excited for the next part of my story,” Mullin told Wigan’s official website on Monday. “I’ve scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the club that I’m playing for, and I’m going to do that again with Wigan.”

Wigan said the loan deal was subject to the approval of the English Football League and the Football Association, and international clearance.

Mullin helped Wrexham become the first team in the history of English football’s top five divisions to secure three successive promotions, and there is a giant mural of the 30-year-old striker in the center of the city.

He formed such a close bond with Ryan Reynolds, one of the club’s owners, that he even appeared in the last “Deadpool” movie.

But Mullin, who had been Wrexham’s player of the season in each of the three previous years, was only a bit-part performer when the team won promotion to the second tier last season.

It was a sudden turn of events for a player who has had a leading role in the popular “Welcome to Wrexham” fly-on-the-wall documentary created by Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to follow their progress as rookie soccer club owners.

McElhenney once hailed Mullin as “one of the greatest football players in the world.”

Mullin has scored 110 goals in 172 games for Wrexham.

MrBeast, Jake Paul & Charli D’Amelio top list of 2025’s highest-earning creators

by admin June 17, 2025

Forbes has released their list of 2025’s highest-earning content creators, with names like MrBeast, Jake Paul and Charli D’Amelio taking over the top 10.

More kids than ever before want to be influencers rather than doctors or lawyers when they grow up — and after taking a look at how much money the net’s top content creators are making, it’s not hard to see why.

While some influencers flex their bank accounts more than others, it’s common knowledge that big-time personalities like MrBeast, Logan Paul and xQc make the big bucks. (xQc famously penned a $100M contract with Kick in 2023, for instance.)

Two years later, Forbes has ranked social media’s top 50 stars to see who is really making the most… and some of their findings might surprise you.

Instagram: mrbeastMrBeast became one of the world’s youngest self-made billionaires in 2025.

MrBeast ranks as the world’st highest-earning influencer

Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson came in at first place with a projected net worth of $85 million. While he’s got the dough to spend on major projects like his Beast Games Amazon Prime series and viral YouTube videos, he’s also admitted that he’s not very liquid and even had to borrow money from his mom to pay for his wedding.

Dhar Mann, a creator known for producing ‘life lesson’ style videos, ranks at second place with $56M, having gotten his own ‘Hollywood-style’ production studio to create content.

YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul weighs in at third place with $50M, likely owing to his purses from major bouts like his Mike Tyson fight and his very own men’s hygiene line, W by Jake Paul.

Hedge Fund Legend Paul Tudor Jones Says Bitcoin Is Part of Ideal Portfolio

by admin June 12, 2025

During a Wednesday appearance on Bloomberg, hedge fund titan Paul Tudor Jones said that a volatility-adjusted portfolio that is comprised of gold, Bitcoin, and stocks would be the best option for those investors who want to hedge against inflation.

“That’s probably your best portfolio to hedge against inflation,” Jones told “Bloomberg Open Interest” earlier today.

Moreover, Jones has reaffirmed his Bitcoin allocation recommendation of 1-2%.

He is convinced that it has become particularly relevant in the current environment.

Jones has implied that Bitcoin could potentially serve as a protective asset against policymakers’ efforts to get out of the “debt trap” at the expense of the American consumer.

“Again, if I’m a policymaker, I’m gonna run really low real rates, I’m gonna have inflation running hot, and I’m gonna tax the American consumer to get out of my debt trap,” he said.

Jones was, of course, one of the first financial juggernauts to embrace Bitcoin back in 2020. Throughout the years, he has not soured on the cryptocurrency that he embraced during the period of massive quantitative easing. Last October, Jones stated that he was long both gold and Bitcoin.

AI’s disruptive potential

During the most recent interview, Jones also described artificial intelligence (AI) as the “most disruptive technology” in the history of mankind.

Last month, Jones warned that AI could potentially wipe out half of humanity.

Chair Paul Atkins Says It’s a ‘New Day’ for the SEC, Calls for ‘Rational’ Crypto Regulation

by admin June 4, 2025

In brief

  • SEC Chair Paul Atkins said Tuesday the agency will prioritize “clear rules of the road” for crypto.
  • He testified that investor protection and innovation require regulatory clarity.
  • But some lawmakers are pushing for the CLARITY Act to shift oversight away from the SEC.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins is continuing on his crusade to bring a “new day” to the SEC and shift the agency’s stance toward digital assets.

Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government on Tuesday, Atkins vowed to pursue a “rational regulatory framework” for crypto assets, prioritizing rulemaking and transparency over enforcement actions.

“Clear rules of the road are necessary for investor protection against fraud—not the least to help them identify scams that do not comport with the law,” he said.

“Policymaking will be done through notice and comment rulemaking, not through regulation-by-enforcement,” Atkins added.

Atkins, a veteran of the SEC, was confirmed in April after a lengthy and partisan nomination process.

His return marks a stark departure from the approach taken by his predecessor, Gary Gensler, whose tenure was marked by enforcement actions against crypto firms and a broad interpretation of securities laws that made him unpopular with the crypto industry.

Since Gensler’s exit, the SEC has dropped several high-profile lawsuits, first under interim chair Mark Uyeda and then under Atkins, and has issued guidance for multiple categories of crypto, including exempting certain staking activities from securities regulation.

The agency’s evolving posture comes amid growing momentum in Congress to strip the SEC of its authority over crypto altogether.

Last week, lawmakers introduced the CLARITY Act, which would amend securities laws to exempt most crypto assets from SEC jurisdiction and establish a new legal framework.

“Our bill secures American dominance, democratizes digital assets, unleashes innovation, and protects consumers from fraud,”Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI), chair of the House’s Financial Services Subcommittee, said at the time.

Democratic staffers on the House Financial Services Committee have criticized the SEC for withholding an impact analysis of the bill, raising concerns that the proposal could create loopholes for traditional finance under the guise of blockchain adoption.

Atkins acknowledged the shifting legislative landscape but emphasized the role of the SEC’s new Crypto Task Force and upcoming DeFi roundtable in supporting innovation.

“I anticipate benefits from this market innovation for efficiency, cost reduction, transparency, and risk mitigation,” he said.

Pirates GM Ben Cherington says trading ace Paul Skenes is ‘not at all part of the conversation’

by admin May 23, 2025

May 22, 2025, 07:28 PM ET

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates are reeling, and just about everything is on the table for a last-place team that has already fired its manager and packed a half-decade’s worth of public relations missteps into two months.

Well, except for one thing: trading ace Paul Skenes.

Asked Thursday if flipping the reigning National League Rookie of the Year is a consideration for a club woefully lacking in impactful position-player prospects, general manager Ben Cherington gave an atypically brief response.

Editor’s Picks

1 Related

“No, it’s not part of the conversation at all,” Cherington said flatly.

Pittsburgh is already 11½ games out of a playoff position, thanks in large part to an offense that ranks last or next-to-last in nearly every major category, from runs, slugging percentage and OPS (all 30th) to home runs and batting average (both 29th).

The Pirates at least showed a small flicker of life at the plate in an 8-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers a few hours after Cherington spoke, scoring five runs for the first time in 27 games. Their 26-game streak of four runs or fewer tied a major league record set by four other teams, most recently the then-California Angels in 1969.

Yet it was telling that Pittsburgh also left 10 runners on base, typical of a season in which the Pirates have consistently been unable to take advantage of the few opportunities they create.

It’s not exactly what the team had in mind during spring training, when everyone from Cherington to Skenes to manager Derek Shelton — who was jettisoned two weeks ago and replaced by Don Kelly — talked about the need for Pittsburgh to take another step forward after consecutive 76-86 seasons.

Instead, the Pirates have been stuck in reverse from Opening Day, even when Skenes starts. Pittsburgh is 3-5 in his eight starts, the latest loss a 1-0 setback in Philadelphia on Sunday in which Skenes limited the Phillies to three hits while throwing the first complete game of his career.

Skenes, who turns 23 next week, has been all-in on the Pirates since being called up a year ago. He is also under team control for the rest of the decade and won’t become arbitration-eligible until after 2026, making his current deal one of the biggest bargains in the majors.

Though Pittsburgh has locked down players such as two-time All-Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to long-term deals, those contracts are a pittance by MLB standards compared to what Skenes might command one day should his career continue on its current trajectory.

The Pirates are perennially one of the most frugal teams in the majors. Their payroll to start the season was just under $88 million. Only the Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Athletics and Miami Marlins spent less.

Even so, Pittsburgh has received little return on its investment. Though the bullpen has been a bit of a mess, the starting rotation has been solid. Skenes (2.44), Mitch Keller (3.88), Andrew Heaney (2.91) and Bailey Falter (3.50) all have ERAs under 4.00, yet they also have a combined record of 10-17.

The issue has been a punchless lineup that is largely nondescript beyond Reynolds, franchise icon Andrew McCutchen and center fielder Oneil Cruz.

Yet it’s telling that while Pittsburgh has one of the deeper pools of pitching prospects — a list that includes hard-throwing 22-year-old Bubba Chandler and Mike Burrows, who took the loss in his first major league start Thursday after going 2-1 with a 2.71 ERA for Triple-A Indianapolis — the cupboard of homegrown position players who are on the cusp of the majors remains pretty bare five-plus years into Cherington’s tenure.

Catcher Henry Davis, the top pick in the 2021 draft, remains a work in progress nearly two full years after his major league debut. Second baseman Nick Gonzales, a first-rounder in 2020, is recovering from an ankle injury and has yet to establish himself as an everyday player. Former first-round picks Termarr Johnson (2022) and Konnor Griffin (2024) are still years away.

So far, the only call-ups from Triple-A have been mostly injury-related, not performance-related.

“We want guys from Triple-A to pound the door down,” Cherington said. “That would be good. I still think that can happen this year. We want more of it over time. … Everybody knows we’ve got to score more runs. That’s not going to happen just by saying it and hoping for it. You’ve got to do the work to do it.”

Cherington said he remains optimistic that the major league team will start to turn the corner over the final 110 or so games, and he is certain Skenes will be a part of it no matter which way it goes.

“We’ve just got to get better,” Cherington said. “Let’s play better baseball, and that’s going to lead to winning more games. Then, let’s wake up and see where that takes us when we get to July.”

Powered by CRKD’s Keyjam Mapping feature, the fret buttons, strum bar, and other inputs act as keyboard inputs, while the right thumbstick on the guitar functions as a mouse, providing effortless control over menu navigation. Whether selecting songs, navigating interfaces, or confirming settings, it adds ease and precision to the experience.

Each unit includes overlay stickers for the Navigation Hub and D-Pad to help identify key mappings. Players can further customize inputs via the free CRKD CTRL companion app, tailoring layouts to their preferred play style or in-game binding.

KEYJAM Mode works in wired, wireless (2.4GHz), and Bluetooth® configurations, delivering low-latency, ultra-responsive control, ideal for rhythm gaming precision.

Beyond KEYJAM Mode, the CRKD Gibson Les Paul® Multi-Platform Guitar Controller supports a wide range of devices—including PC, Nintendo® Switch™ consoles, mobile, tablet, and smart TVs—through its other integrated modes, offering true multi-format support across modern and legacy platforms. It also supports legacy games like Guitar Hero™ and Rock Band™ in P3 Mode.

The controller is also compatible in multiple modes with popular community PC rhythm games like YARG and Clone Hero, giving players even more flexibility across the titles they love.

Whether you’re diving into Fortnite Festival or rocking through community created games, KEYJAM Mode elevates the guitar controller experience to a new standard of versatility and performance.
