Ananta looks expensive, like a mix of GTA, Spider-Man, and Yakuza, and a bit overwhelming

by admin September 23, 2025

Ananta is a bit of an alarming game to look at. The open world game is so clearly an anime-esque riff on GTA, with some Spider-Man style web swinging thrown in for reasons I’m not entirely sure of. All of that’s been obviously more or less since its announcement. But the game just received its first gameplay trailer at Tokyo Game Show, and it looks scarily… expensive.

Through the roughly seven minutes of gameplay, set to a song I can only describe as “song you let play on the radio while driving just because you want to fill the silence,” more and more Things just kept happening. One minute the main character is driving a motorbike, the next they’re taking a selfie through different scenes, one of which shows a mostly naked man escaping police on a robotic, walking toilet, and then the next they’re fighting goons Yakuza-style in the street.

Watch on YouTube

And more things keep happening after that! There’s the aforementioned Spider-Man swinging, a giant city-destroying robot, and just so many fictitious shops with such well realised branding you could convince me I could actually visit them.

This isn’t even mentioning the fact that Ananta just wholesale rips off GTA 5’s character transition, letting you hop into another, presumably gacha rolled, character’s body, continuing on whatever they’re doing. There’s even quite an interesting use of this where you can do so while you’re being held at gunpoint, with the switch to another character allowing you to snipe enemies from afar.

It really has that GTA ethos of “you can do everything,” an ethos I don’t necessarily feel great about considering the amount of labour likely required to achieve it, which raises questions of how ethical that labour was achieved. There’s a chance it’s teetering on the edge of having too much to do the do, to the point it becomes overwhelming.

Ananta isn’t just alarming because of how much of an “everything” game it presents itself as, but because I have some reservations about its narrative framing. The main character is the new captain of a special task force, essentially what seems to be the police. There’s even a moment about halfway through where, as a different character, you can just handcuff and arrest an NPC.

Of course you can have games where you play as the police, there are good and interesting stories about police too, but I can’t help but feel a bit concerned by such a, potentially small, gameplay feature. There’s no amount of cute half-animal anime women that can make it easy to breeze past such a thing.

Perhaps a game to be curious but cautious about, whenever it comes out.

Lenovo abruptly cancels some Legion Go 2 preorders due to overwhelming demand

by admin September 21, 2025

From a disastrous AMA on Monday to disappointing Legion Go 2 preorder customers on Friday, the Lenovo team is having a hell of a week. To kick things off, the Lenovo Legion team hosted an AMA on Reddit revolving around its gaming handheld launch. The Legion Go 2 generated a ton of hype, being Lenovo’s next-gen gaming handheld with more powerful specs and a higher price tag, but the team only answered 10 questions before abandoning the thread. On Wednesday, Lenovo apologized for not being prepared enough to answer all the questions, but followed it up with a bombshell in an edit posted on Friday, adding that “we will need to cancel some preorders placed directly on Lenovo.com” for the Legion Go 2.

According to the Lenovo team, the demand “substantially exceeded our projections” and led to “unforeseen delivery range extensions.” While the orders with Lenovo’s retail partners, like Best Buy, aren’t affected, anyone who preordered the Legion Go 2 directly on the Lenovo website may see some frustrating news in their inboxes. The cancellations might not be a total shocker, since some user reports are circulating that Lenovo already pushed initial ship dates from September to October with “zero communication about the delay.”

To try to save face, Lenovo explained that “as soon as our inventory is replenished, Lenovo.com will show updated availability and ordering will reopen.” There’s no indication yet if those with canceled orders will get priority with the next batch of available devices, but the Lenovo team said it would respond to the AMA thread’s questions over the rest of the month. However, if Reddit comments are any indication, there’s a good chance a lot of customers won’t reorder following this catastrophic launch.

In tribute to a player’s departed baby son, Old School RuneScape players turn out in ‘hundreds’ to pay respects to his namesake: ‘It was so overwhelming seeing so many people at Zeke’s shop’

by admin September 10, 2025

MMOs tend to function, more or less, as enormous mechanisms for competition. PvP, being the first to a particular raid, pulling off troubling works of deception in EVE Online—this is what I associate with the phrase ‘massively multiplayer’. But sometimes, the stars align and players come together to do something truly nice for each other.

A Reddit user and Old School RuneScape player going by Gr3g1n4t0r posted to the game’s community subreddit yesterday that it had “been a year since my son, Zeke, has passed away.” The player’s son had been born prematurely, but “held on for almost 4 months until he sadly passed away.”

To pay tribute and mark a year since their son’s passing, the player announced they would be making a trip to see Zeke, owner of the store Zeke’s Superior Scimitars, in World 388 shortly after the post went up.

And then, well, you can probably guess what happened next: players turned out in impromptu throngs to join Gr3g1n4t0r in their tribute to their child.

Numerous screenshots posted to Reddit show great crowds of people gathered around Zeke’s store using the Redemption prayer—which triggers a large green heart to manifest above your avatar’s head. Meanwhile, chat abounded with messages like “Hell yeah Zeke lives on,” and “Here for you and Zeke <3”. Even a Jagex staff member—Mod Sarnie—turned up.

Thank you guys for honoring our Zeke from r/2007scape

“Thank you for hosting,” wrote another player on Reddit. “Hundreds of people came to support your beautiful tribute. My condolences, and I hope this community brought you some happiness.”

In a post after the event, Gr3g1n4t0r wrote their thanks: “Thank you to everyone who saw the post and paid their respect. It was so overwhelming seeing so many people at Zeke’s shop. It was so nice to hear your stories as well. We have such an incredible community with the biggest hearts.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

In a separate post, they wrote “The community is the best in the world. Love you Zeke ❤️”.

CobraJet Nvidia AI-powered drone killer takes out ‘overwhelming enemy drone incursions’ at up to 300mph

by admin August 18, 2025

Defense startup SkyDefense LLC just launched an autonomous combat drone designed to take out enemy drone swarms at a much lower cost than traditional weapon systems. The company calls it the CobraJet — an uncrewed aerial vehicle (basically, a drone) designed for C-UAS (counter-unmanned aircraft system) missions. The drone combines Teledyne FLIR electro-optical and infrared sensors that do not contain restricted foreign parts, and Nvidia AI chips, allowing the drone to process the information that it sees with onboard sensors.

A different kind of VRAM

The CobraJet is also equipped with its proprietary Visual Realtime Area Monitoring (VRAM) system, allowing ground commanders to monitor the drone during autonomous operations and communicate with and control it, if needed. This gives its operator the option to let it operate on its own during reconnaissance, patrol, and identification, but still have a human making decisions when required. It can also use the same technology to communicate with other CobraJet units, allowing them to act together as a single entity to protect against enemy swarms.

Aside from its AI brain, the CobraJet also boasts an internal weapons bay and external hardpoints, allowing it to carry kamikaze drones, small missiles, or even fragmentation projectiles. It can also be modified to carry precision bombs and loitering munitions, making it a multirole drone. Its external design mimics that of the U.S.’s latest air superiority and multirole fighters, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, with vertical take-off and landing capabilities and thrust vectoring nozzles. This means it can operate from the back of a truck and have improved maneuverability, allowing it to go toe-to-toe with small and nimble drones.

Asymmetric warfare answered?

CobraJet is SkyDefense’s solution to the emerging threat of drone swarms on the modern battlefield. These small and cheap weapons are widely used in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with the defending Ukrainians effectively using drones to initially counter the larger Russian army. Today, both sides in the conflict use UAVs, and actions on the battlefield highlight the U.S.’s need to develop a cost-effective counter.

While existing weapons like surface-to-air missiles and air-to-air missiles can engage drones, there’s often a huge mismatch in price between these two platforms. Missiles often cost between half a million to more than $4 million — while you can buy a cheap drone for just $200, with the more sophisticated ones, like Iran’s Shahed-136, only costing $20,000. You can also send up a platoon of combat choppers to engage a drone swarm with guns, but you’re risking several multi-million-dollar weapon platforms to combat cheap suicide drones.

“Our USA-made CobraJets can communicate and coordinate as a flight team, enabling them to operate as an AI-powered unmanned Air Force,” said SkyDefense LLC President Nick Verini. “This team approach increases the effectiveness of the squadron while also significantly reducing the costs of destroying a swarm of enemy drones.”

SkyDefense LLC hasn’t released the unit cost of the CobraJet, but it’s going to be so much more affordable than the fighter jets it looks like, and the missiles they carry. The company is offering the drone to law enforcement, Homeland Security, and the U.S. military, giving them the ability to protect against hostile drone swarms without needing to spend copious amounts of money to take down such cheap weapons.
