Metroid Prime 4: Beyond officially ESRB rated, sparking hope for release date news

by admin August 21, 2025

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has received its official ESRB rating, sparking hope that release date news is on the way soon.

Now updated on the US eShop, Metroid Prime 4 has received a Teen rating, with animated blood and violence. In the UK, it has a provisional PEGI 12. These ratings are the same as Metroid Prime Remastered.

Back in July the game popped up on the Korean ratings board, but still we don’t have a release date beyond 2025.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Direct 3.27.2025Watch on YouTube

Earlier this month, Nintendo reiterated the latest in its beloved sci-fi series would still launch this year, despite rumours of a delay.

That followed a poster for the game appearing on the London Underground stating, incorrectly, that it was “out now”.

Metroid Prime 4 will be released across both Switch and Switch 2, with the latter being a prime example of the console’s varied control capabilities – including mouse mode.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is officially out for PC and consoles

by admin August 20, 2025

Ubisoft and Evil Empire’s long-awaited The Rogue Prince of Persia is finally out and available for purchase. It’s been in early access on Steam for over a year and the developers have made plenty of changes during that time to get the game ready for a general launch.

It’s available for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. It’s also playable in the cloud by using the Xbox Cloud service, Ubisoft+ and Amazon Luna. Nintendo fans will have to wait a bit longer. The game’s coming to the Switch and Switch 2, but not until later this year.

For the uninitiated, The Rogue Prince of Persia is a sidescrolling roguelike with plenty of fast-paced action and a graceful move set inspired by other games in the franchise. Co-developer Evil Empire is the company behind the iconic Dead Cells, which is also a sidescrolling roguelike.

Since launching in early access, developers have added more biomes and a new story, in addition to refining the gameplay and character designs. If you’ve been hankering for a new roguelike with some light Metroidvania elements (just like Dead Cells), this could be the game you’ve been waiting for. It costs $30.

WhatsApp is officially getting ads

by admin June 16, 2025

WhatsApp is rolling out ads. In an update on Monday, Meta announced that it will now show ads from businesses through its Stories-like status feature.

The status feature lives within WhatsApp’s “Updates” tab and allows users to share disappearing text, photo, voice notes, or video messages. But now, you might see sponsored content in addition to the updates shared by friends or family members.

Meta says it will tailor the ads to your interests by using “limited” information, including your country or city, language, the channels you follow, and how you interact with ads on the platform. You can also change your ad preferences from Meta’s Accounts Center if you’ve opted into the hub.

“We’ve been talking about our plans to build a business that does not interrupt your personal chats for years and we believe the Updates tab is the right place for these new features to work,” Meta writes in its update. The company says it “will never sell or share your phone numbers to advertisers,” adding that it won’t use your messages, calls, or groups to inform its ads.

This isn’t the only change Meta is making to WhatsApp. The company will also start showing promoted channels when you click on the Explore button to find new ones to follow. It’s also rolling out the ability to subscribe to channels to “receive exclusive updates” as well.

Resident Evil 9 officially unveiled, coming February

by admin June 7, 2025

Capcom has lifted the lid on Resident Evil 9, the next entry in its long-standing horror series. I say Resident Evil 9. Its full name is in fact Resident Evil Requiem, which gives it all a greater sense of gravitas.

Today’s news all arrived with a new trailer, which you can check out below. Admittedly, it doesn’t give us a huge amount of information right now, we can glean some things. We meet Grace Ashcroft, for example, and this may well be the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from previous Resi entries.

Also, in the trailer we see that Racoon City was destroyed in some form of sterilisation event, and it looks like we will be exploring the city in ruins. This ties in with Alyssa Ashcroft’s story in Resident Evil Outbreak, which takes place around the time of Resident Evil 3 when the city was vapourised, so Grace being her daughter seems very likely.

As for when Resi 9 is releasing, that’ll be 27th February next year, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.

Resident Evil Requiem – Reveal Trailer. Watch on YouTube

“Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living,” reads the official blurb on the new Resident Evil 9 trailer. “Resident Evil Requiem is the highly anticipated ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series. Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.”

So, yes, this next entry in the Resident Evil series is in bound, and will be playable at Gamescom this summer.

Capcom has said Requiem will act as a “new era of surival horror”, with the studio saying that “technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before”. Ooh!

Capcom actually offered us a sneaky Resident Evil 9 tease earlier this year, when it released a video to celebrate the success of its Resident Evil 4 Remake. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a sign post at the end of the video appeared to show IX when they cocked thier heads to the side slightly, which are of course the Roman numerals for the number nine. Very good Capcom, very good.

Resident Evil Requiem officially announced and it’s launching in February 2026

by admin June 7, 2025

  • Resident Evil Requiem has officially been announced
  • The ninth entry launches on February 27, 2026, for PC and console
  • Requiem‘s protagonist is FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who could be related to Resident Evil Outbreak‘s Alyssa Ashcroft

It’s official, Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

The next Resident Evil game was the final announcement of Summer Game Fest 2025 and was unveiled with a chilling cinematic trailer showing off the game’s protagonist, FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft, and a nuked Racoon City.

Capcom is calling the ninth entry “a new era of survival horror,” and host Geoff Keighly describes it as a “bold shift for the franchise both in tone and gameplay,” and that players should expect “high-stakes cinematic action”.

Bizarrely, Jun Takeuchi, Resident Evil executive producer, made a brief appearance earlier in the broadcast to tease the game, but stated that Capcom wasn’t ready to reveal it.

From the trailer, it seems that Resident Evil Requiem will follow Grace as she investigates a serial killer who has a connection to her deceased mother.

It’s unclear if former Resident Evil characters, like Leon and Jill, will make an appearance, but it appears that Grace Ashcroft is related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak and Outbreak File #2.

Mark Rubin leaves Ubisoft, XDefiant officially shuts down

by admin June 5, 2025

Ubisoft’s Mark Rubin has announced his departure from the company as its live service shooter XDefiant is officially sunsetted.

Rubin, who was executive producer on the title, shared he was leaving the developer on social media.

“I’ve decided to leave the industry and spend more time with my family, so unfortunately you won’t be hearing about me making another game,” he wrote.

“I do care passionately about the shooter space and hope that someone else can pick up the flag that I was trying to carry and make games again that care about the players, treat them with respect, and listen to what they have to say.”

Ubisoft announced it would be shutting XDefiant down last December.

Mark Rubin

Two production studios were closed as a result, and nearly 300 employees were affected by layoffs.

Ubisoft’s chief studios and portfolio officer Marie-Sophie de Waubert cited the game being “too far away from reaching the results required to enable further significant investment” as the reason for XDefiant going offline.

In October 2024, Rubin dismissed reports that XDefiant was on its way to being sunsetted. He said he’d been in meetings about potential plans for the game’s second season, and that the team were focused on improving the experience and adding more content.

However, in his recent post on social media, he highlighted the issues that arose during development which led to XDefiant’s downfall.

These included “crippling tech engine debt using an engine that wasn’t designed for what we were doing” and not having “the engineering resources to ever correct that.”

He also said that “not having the right resources to make content for the game” also impeded development.

“I can say everyone’s (devs, HQ leadership, etc.) heart was in the right place, but we just didn’t have the gas to go the distance for a free-to-play game,” he explained. “I really want to praise and salute all the devs that worked on XDefiant.

“The cards were heavily stacked against you, but you managed to produce a really fun and terrific game.”

Rubin continued: “I also think we made a decent impact in the space. We saw a lot of reactions from other games to what we were doing and to me that speaks volumes. I’m really sorry we couldn’t quite deliver and maintain this game for a longer time.”

Nioh 3 officially revealed - and it's not a PlayStation exclusive, even if there's a demo you can only play on PS5

Nioh 3 officially revealed – and it’s not a PlayStation exclusive, even if there’s a demo you can only play on PS5

by admin June 5, 2025

As part of the PlayStation State of Play, we got treated to the surprise reveal of the next game in the Nioh action RPG series. It’s simply titled Nioh 3, and it’s going to be changing so much of what we know about Nioh.

Nioh 2 is set for release in early 2026.

First, the game is not a timed PlayStation-exclusive, which is great to see (and a first for Nioh). It will be available on PC and PS5 simultaneously when it arrives next year. The even more surprising news is that there’s a demo available right now, though sadly only on PS5.

This is the alpha demo, which implies there’s going to be at least one more demo – beta – prior to launch, if Team Ninja’s history with Nioh is anything to go by. The demo is available only until Wednesday, June 18

Nioh 3 takes place in Japan’s Sengoku period, and stars a new protagonist; a young warrior (Tokugawa) set to be the next Shogun. Obviously Yokai are in the mix here right alongside human enemies.

Nioh 3 is described as an “open field” game, which is a major change for the series. It’s interesting that Team Ninja didn’t call it outright open world, though perhaps the negative criticisms Rise of the Ronin drew for its open-world structure may have had a hand in that.

Regardless, gameplay areas look to be more open than past Nioh games, even if the trailer doesn’t show much of that.

Watch on YouTube

Perhaps the most interesting detail was made in this PlayStation Blog post, where Nioh 3 general producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that combat has two main styles: Samurai, and Ninja.

Both styles can be switched between on the fly. The Samurai style is described as the most similar to other Nioh games, though stances weren’t mentioned in the breakdown. The Samurai style also comes with new additions, so it’s not entirely similar. The post mentions Arts Proficiency, which boosts the power of martial arts – an area that’s typically been neglected in Nioh games. There’s also Deflect, which is effectively a parry system.

Then there’s the Ninja style, which has faster movements, and unlocks a host of aerial actions. This is where the Ninjitsu techniques now sit, and some of the abilities discussed include leaving behind a clone after attacking.

Nioh 3 looks to be a big step forward for the series, so we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on it to find out whether Team Ninja has been successful at evolving its formula this time around.

‘Big Balls’ Is Officially a Full-Time Government Employee

by admin June 4, 2025

Although Elon Musk has said that he is largely exiting his role at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), at least three of his early operatives and key lieutenants throughout his government takeover have recently become full-time government employees.

Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, and Ethan Shaotran’s employment designations at the General Services Administration (GSA) have been officially converted to full-time from the restricted special government employee (SGE) classification that limited their time in government to a period of 130 days, according to documentation viewed by WIRED.

Coristine, who has gone by “Big Balls” online and previously worked for a telecommunications firm known for hiring former black hat hackers, was converted to full-time on May 31, along with Farritor. Shaotran became full-time on April 10.

WIRED first reported in early February that Coristine, Farritor, and Shaotran were brought on by Musk’s DOGE. They then gained unprecedented access to government systems. Before joining DOGE, they had connections to Musk-owned companies: Farritor interned at SpaceX, Coristine worked at Neuralink for three months, and Shaotran participated in an xAI hackathon last October.

Since January, all three have obtained access to dozens of federal agencies in addition to GSA, including the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and many others. They have also been tied to major changes to the federal government apparatus: Farritor was closely linked to the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Coristine has reportedly been one of the leaders of the initiative related to President Donald Trump’s “gold card” visas that are sold for $5 million.

It’s not immediately clear if the new designations affect their abilities to maintain access to other agencies outside of GSA.

Coristine, Farritor, and Shaotran, according to documentation viewed by WIRED, each maintain their “senior advisor” titles. Coristine and Farritor are drawing some of the largest salaries possible for government employees through the “General Schedule” employee rankings. They have a salary grade of GS-15, one of the highest grades, and Shaotran is one step below at GS-14. When they were special government employees, Coristine, Farritor, and Shaotran did not appear to be drawing salaries at all through GSA, WIRED reported in March.

Kyle Schutt, another early DOGE operative, has also appeared to change employment classification at least twice, but currently seems to be listed as a special government employee in documentation seen by WIRED.

The White House and GSA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Despite Musk’s apparent departure from the Trump administration last week, DOGE has shown no signs of pausing its work in government agencies. Last week, WIRED reported that there has been a renewed urgency for DOGE-style work at agencies including the Office of Personnel Management, US Department of Agriculture, the Department of Labor, and the Department of the Interior. Federal workers told WIRED they were asked to quickly review and potentially slash contracts, especially those pertaining to IT and human resources.

Farritor and Coristine, along with other members of Musk’s early DOGE team like Sam Corcos and Gavin Kliger, have met with a number of departments in recent days, while new DOGE affiliates have been detailed to different agencies.

DOGE, WIRED reported, also appears to be actively recruiting.

007 First Light officially revealed as the title for Hitman dev’s James Bond game, and we’ll see it in action later this week

by admin June 3, 2025

IO Interactive has officially dropped the first real news on its in-development James Bond game since it was initially announced back in 2020. The game is called 007 First Light, and IO revealed it with nothing but a single piece of art on Twitter.

The good news is that we won’t have to wait too long to actually see more, because IO is planning some big events this week.

Alongside this teaser, the developer also announced its first-ever showcase. Dubbed IOI Showcase, the event is being held in person in Los Angeles this Friday, June 6. It’s also going ot be livestreamed, of course, kicking off at 6pm PT, 9pm ET, 2am UK.

As you may have already realised, that’s a few hours after Summer Game Fest’s kick-off show, which will be going live 2pm PT on the same day. It’s very likely that Geoff Keighley’s show will bring a first-look teaser that directs viewers towards the showcase taking place a couple of hours afterwards.

The IOI Showcase will deliver our first look at gameplay, but it’s also going to offer some updates on IOI Partners games such as the upcoming MindsEye, as well as some Hitman news for good measure.

007 First Light does not have a release target, and though it was initially announced as a multi-platform title (and the start of a trilogy), the only officially confirmed one of those is the upcoming Switch 2. The game will very likely also be released day-and-date on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Friday’s event will no doubt clear all that up for us, and maybe even provide a proper release date for one of the most mysterious games currently in development.

007 First Light is an origin story with an original character that’s not based on any existing Bond portrayal in the films. It stars a young James Bond with his own stories in a separate canon.

Elden Ring Nightreign director says Fromsoft "kind of overlooked and neglected" playing as a duo, but 2 player-friendly "post-launch support" is being considered

Duo Expeditions will officially come to Elden Ring Nightreign, as the game passes 3.5 million players

by admin June 3, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign launched missing many, many features most of us expect in modern multiplayer games. The co-op action RPG is designed for three players, and that’s about the only optimal way to play it.

There’s no option for Duos, and though you can start the game’s Expeditions (runs) as a solo player, you’re not going to have a fun time. But, FromSoftware is seemingly listening, and the developer just announced some major news.

Earlier today, the FromSoftware revealed (via the official Elden Ring Twitter account) that the game has surpassed 3.5 million players. The wording of the tweet does not specify whether those were actual sales or simply just player numbers.

Seeing as Nightreign has been doing very well on Steam – making it FromSoft’s second-biggest launch ever, 3.5 million copies sounds very plausible when you keep in mind other platforms, too.

Alongside this news, the developer also shared some early details about a number of features currently in the works, which will arrive in the game at various points in the future. Firstly: Duos. Yes, the ability to play Nightreign with just one other player – something modders are already working on making possible – is being worked on.

The announcement did not say when we can expect Duo Expeditions to arrive, offering nothing beyond “at a later date” as the release target. This is the studio’s first official acknowledgement of the desire for a Duos mode, which is good to see.

In twos they [will soon] come. | Image credit: FromSoftware

The game’s most recent patch, which arrived yesterday, made things a little less frustrating for solo players – even if the game remains very much not designed for solos. More tweaks in that vein are in the works, too.

Something else you can expect to see later this month are “enhanced fights against existing Nightlords,” which is just the type of vague language FromSoft loves to use. There’s also the previously-announced DLC, which is set to arrive later in the year.

If you’re knee-deep the game right now, our Elden Ring Nightreign guide is one worth bookmarking. Even if you’re already on top of your Executor, and Revenant builds, you’re going to find plenty of useful info to help you wrap your head around those map events, how to unlock skins for your characters and much more.
