Jack Black returns as Officer Dick in THPS 3+4

by admin June 26, 2025

The Mario movie. The Minecraft movie. The Borderlands movie. Jack Black is everywhere in pop gaming culture lately, and will even make another appearance (well, technically two) in next month’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake. Black will reprise his role as Officer Dick, in addition to voicing Constable Richard, Dick’s UK counterpart, in the game’s London level.

As a child, Dick, real name Richard Ennvee, “was mocked by other skaters and called a ‘poser,’” according to an Activision press release. “Overtaken by the need for revenge, Dick vowed to one day become what those skaters feared most – the long arm of the law!” Although the good constable doesn’t get as much of a lore drop, he is promised to be “every bit as hard-nosed and utterly ridiculous as Officer Dick.”

For those who don’t remember the officer from the older games, he’s been an unlockable character in the franchise since the original game, and remained as such until Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. He returned in Tony Hawk’s Project 8 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD before making an appearance in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 as Jables himself.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is out July 11 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Hashed Research CEO Appointed Chief Policy Officer at Presidential Office

by admin June 6, 2025

Korea’s new President, Lee Jae-myung, has appointed the CEO of Hashed Research, Kim Yong-beom, to be the Chief Policy Officer of Korea’s Presidential Office.

A very sad day at @hashed_official. The new president just stole the CEO of our proud think tank, Hashed Open Research.

He’s now Chief Presidential Secretary for Policy —
a minister-level position, and arguably the most crypto-native and Web3-friendly official in Korean… pic.twitter.com/VS2ouCjgRa

— Simon Kim (@simonkim_nft) June 6, 2025

Before leading Hashed Research, crypto fund Hashed’s think tank, Kim was the Vice Minister of Economy and Finance during the Moon Jae-in administration.

In a previous interview with CoinDesk, Simon Kim, the CEO of Hashed, stated that the Lee administration will be crypto-friendly and that local regulators are closely monitoring crypto policy developments in the U.S with an aim to emulate them.

One of the first policy initiatives Kim Yong-beom might be working on is a Won-based stablecoin, which was identified by newly elected President Lee as a priority to “prevent national wealth from leaking overseas.”

MindsEye is set to launch next week, so it’s probably not great that the studio’s chief financial officer and chief legal officer have both resigned

by admin June 3, 2025

The pre-release saga of MindsEye, the debut game from former Rockstar Games stalwart Leslie Benzies and his Build a Rocket Boy studio, has taken another strange twist. As noticed today by Eurogamer, Build a Rocket Boy’s chief financial officer and chief legal officer have both left the company, just a week ahead of MindsEye’s release.

Former chief legal officer Riley Graebner, who joined Build a Rocket Boy in 2022 and also served as chief operating officer until April 2024, announced his departure from the studio in a message posted to LinkedIn.

“After three and a half years my time at BARB has come to a close,” Graebner wrote. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. During that time we more than doubled the size of the company to over 450 employees. We launched multiple products worldwide. We built the legal team and legal ops infrastructure from the ground up, working to systemize and automate.

“I’m beyond excited for what’s next—but currently operating in stealth mode for a while longer. Stay tuned.”

CFO Paul Bland didn’t make any sort of public declaration about leaving BARB, but updated his LinkedIn profile to indicate that he’d parted ways with the company in June. Somewhat oddly, he seems to have subsequently changed his LinkedIn page: The Paul Bland page on the site (which I successfully visited earlier today) is gone, but the account itself remains available, at a different URL, under the name Paul B. I have no idea what to make of that, but it’s weird.

The whole thing is weird, really. Executives come and go, it’s true, but losing two C-suiters, effectively at the same time, and literally a week before the launch of the big thing you’ve been working on for years—well, it’s not a very good look, is it?

There’s no indication that anything untoward is going on behind the scenes, but even so their departures have caused an understandable ripple amongst some of the MindsEye community. As one person put it in the MindsEye Discord, “Two major players inside the company just resigned. That’s concerning!” I’m inclined to agree.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Similar sentiments can be seen on the MindsEye subreddit, where people are already somewhat less than enthusiastic about the game due primarily to a relative dearth of information about it. Back when the metaverse was still a thing, MindsEye was billed as an experience taking place within the Everywhere platform, which has been kicking around—equally ill-explained—since 2016. But I know even less about Everywhere than I do about MindsEye at this point, and it seems to have fallen off the radar: The Everywhere website, for instance, now redirects to a MindsEye site—which is just a trailer and purchase links.

“They’ve done such an incredibly poor job explaining this game I still have no clue what it even is,” redditor Greatnes wrote. “It’s just buzzwords and features with nothing linking them or explaining them. I’ve never had this issue with a game before with not even knowing what it is. Game is out in 13 days and they don’t seem interested in actually showing it off beyond carefully scripted gameplay trailers that don’t explain anything.”

(MindsEye is, for the record, “a narrative driven, single-player action-adventure thriller” with an estimated 15-hour campaign—it looks a bit like GTA, but don’t expect anything on that scale.)

The departures of Build a Rocket Boy’s CFO and CLO come less than a week after the company’s co-CEO Mark Gerhard caused a stir by claiming publicly that the negative reactions to MindsEye were part of a “concerted effort to trash the game and the studio” ahead of its release, being financed by an unnamed entity. That was not great either, and also very weird.

MindsEye is set to launch on June 10. I’ve reached out to Build a Rocket Boy for comment and will update if I receive a reply.

Massive container ship crashes into man’s yard after officer falls asleep at the wheel

by admin May 24, 2025

In a baffling turn of events, a container ship ended up crashing into an unsuspecting person’s front yard after the vessel’s watch officer fell asleep on duty.

It’s not unheard of for cars or trucks to occasionally crash into someone’s home or business, but one homeowner in central Norway was stunned to see an entire ship in his garden at 5 AM.

The owner of the home, which sits on the edge of the Trondheim Fjord, says he had to crane his neck to see the top of the 135 meters-tall ship (443 feet).

“It was so unreal,” he said in a statement to The Guardian.

Ship crashes into unsuspecting homeowner’s garden as officer falls asleep

The vessel in question was a container ship named the NCL Salten, flying flags from Cyprus and manned by a crew of 16 people. It was sailing southwest through the Fjord, on May 22, headed to Orkanger, when it started to drift off its course.

After a police investigation, it was revealed that the Salten’s watch officer, a man in his 30s from the Ukraine, had fallen asleep during his shift, resulting in the ensuing accident.

“The individual charged was the officer on watch at the time of the incident,” authorities with the Trøndelag Police District said to the press, adding that “During questioning, he stated that he fell asleep while on duty alone, which led to the vessel running aground.”

The man was charged with negligent navigation, and police are also looking into the rules regarding work and proper rest hours amongst the crew members. According to Norwegian law, violations of regulations on entry into Norway’s territorial waters can result in a fine or imprisonment up to one year.

The home’s owner, Johan Helberg, was able to find humor in the situation, despite the ship only missing his home by a mere five meters, as per the BBC.

“It’s a very bulky new neighbor, but it will soon go away,” he said to local news outlet TV2.

His son expressed similar sentiments, saying, “I didn’t know if I was dreaming because it was five in the morning and it was so surreal.”

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time this particular container ship has run aground. The vessel reportedly beached in 2023 as well, although its crew was able to free it back into the water.

Jasper Tanner-Barnes joins Fireshine Games as chief portfolio officer

by admin May 21, 2025

UK-based publisher Fireshine Games has appointed Jasper Tanner-Barnes as its chief portfolio officer.

The newly established role will see Tanner-Barnes secure and maintain partnerships and oversee Fireshine’s portfolio strategy in addition to its acquisitions and business development.

“Fireshine has already proven it can spot breakout opportunities,” Tanner-Barnes tells GamesIndustry.biz.

“As CPO, my role is to build on that momentum: shaping a strategic roadmap that balances creative bets with smart, disciplined investment to develop and grow our label further.”

He adds: “Beyond strategy, I take pride in a highly authentic leadership style – grounded in accountability to both our Fireshine team and our development partners – and I’m proud to join a company that lives with these same values.”

Tanner-Barnes will also focus on enhancing the distribution of Fireshine’s digital portfolio.

“Alongside our rich history of supporting the physical distribution of some of the greatest titles in recent indie gaming, we’re now focused on scaling our digital publishing impact with the same care and precision,” he explains.

“With Pulsatrix Studios’ A.I.L.A and Weird Beluga’s Duskfade on the horizon, and a sharper focus on our portfolio, we’re setting out to define what modern publishing can look like.”

Tanner-Barnes previously worked at Team17 as talent acquisition manager and head of game scouting.

He also worked at Ubisoft Leamington as talent acquisition specialist and Sega Hardlight as technical recruitment manager.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome Jasper to Fireshine Games,” said Fireshine CEO Brian Foote.

“The knowledge, passion and experience he brings will help us build deeper relationships with developers and partners and take Fireshine Games towards the next chapter in our journey.”

Fireshine Games was founded in 2014, following a rebrand from Sold Out Games. Foote was appointed CEO earlier this year following the retirement of former CEO James Cato.
