Actor Terence Stamp, who played General Zod in Superman and Mankar Camoran in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, has died

As reported by the BBC, the family of Terence Stamp has confirmed that the actor died on Sunday morning at the age of 87. In Stamp’s long and illustrious career, the actor had some notable videogame performances, including the Prophet of Truth in Halo, and Mankar Camoran in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Stamp was born to a working class London family in 1938, and first rose to popularity in the 1960s, once even being considered to replace Sean Connery as James Bond. Stamp is perhaps best known today for the second act of his career, where he made a mark as a versatile character actor. Stamp played General Zod opposite Christopher Reeve in the first two Superman movies in 1978 and 1980.

Stamp had a small number of videogame appearances in his career, most notably in Halo 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Stamp was one of a number of famous actors who lent their voices to Oblivion, including Sir Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, and Lynda Carter. Stamp’s performance as Mankar Camoran can once again be heard in Virtuous’ remaster of Oblivion, as well as the upcoming Skyblivion mod remake.

In the documentary, The Making of Oblivion, Stamp can be seen working in the booth, delivering some of his lines as Camoran and receiving direction from longtime Elder Scrolls lead, Todd Howard. Though Stamp says in the documentary that he had only gotten the FedEx of the script the night before recording and that he was less familiar with this “area of performance,” his delivery of Camoran remains a highlight of the game.

“Superman 1 and 2, kinda my formative years, when I was six or seven. Terence Stamp is General Zod, and he has a great line in Superman 2, where he gets Superman to kneel,” Howard explained in the documentary. “‘Son of Jor-El, kneel before Zod!’ And my brother would always do that but change ‘Zod’ to ‘Todd.’ Just over the years, one of those things.”

Naturally, in-between recording Cameron’s commanding and esoteric monologues to the Mythic Dawn cult, Stamp graciously delivered a menacing “Kneel before Todd!” For Howard and his brother.

Stamp was reportedly in talks to reprise his role as transgender drag queen Bernadette Bassenger in a distant sequel to the 1994 film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. According to IMDB, his final role will remain an appearance in Edgar Wright’s 2021 film, Last Night in Soho.

If you’re desperate for some company of a non-Adoring Fan kind as you run around Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered, odds are the base game’ll leave you wanting. Enter a new mod, which adds in a beast master system that’ll let you tame a furry or scaly pet.

After all, one could argue you’ve not really experienced Tamriel unless you’re having to stop after every fight to give your precious wild boar Bobo some heal minor wounds-infused tummy tickles

Beast Master is the mod in question, and the latest example of prolific ColdTyrant working to revamp 2025’s most 2006 release by giving folks new stuff to try once they’ve had their fill of shutting spooky doors.

Building on the pretty basic command creature spell from the base game, which Wood Elves have as a racial ability, he’s put together a means for you to tame any animal you come across in the wilderness via magic and have it permanently join you on your adventures as a named “combat pet”. In addition to being commandable and aiding you in fights like any regular companion, these pets can be fed grub from your inventory and interacted with in order to check on their mood.

That last bit has no impact in gameplay, so the mod’s more of the casual pet ownership experience than a full Nintendogs-style furry thing parent simulation that’ll leave you feeling even more unnerved than usual about your real life ability to look after actual human children.

Further to that end, you can only have one pet at any given time via the mod, so if you want to replace your tamed Imp named Fatso with a brown bear named Bingus or a troll named Sapphire, you’ll have to release the former back into the wild. As of right now, the mod has short lists of pre-defined names and recruitable animals for you to pick from, but ColdTyrant has indicated he’s open to adding more options based on suggestions.

Interestingly, the modder says he initially tried letting folks type in their own custom pet names, but had to ditch that option due to it being “literally impossible to rename an actor without clicking on them directly in the console” at the moment.

If you fancy giving this Beast Master mod a go, you’ll need to grab UE4SS and TesSyncMapInjector. The Oblivion Remastered Script Extender, MagicLoader 2, and NL-Tag Remover are optional installs, but not hard requirements.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered poised for not just one, but two updates

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered team is gearing up for the first patch since its release earlier this year. Actually, it is working on two patches at the moment, with those who are part of the Steam Beta getting first dibs.

The first of these two patches will focus on “quests, major bugs and blockers, and quality of life fixes,” the developer said. Those on the Beta path will be able to experience these changes from today, 5th June. The rest of us will then follow next week, on 11th June.

A second patch will be released at a later date, though we don’t know when just now, and this chap will be focused on Oblivion Remastered’s performance.

As for Update 1.1, to give it its proper name, fixes include the Local Map not showing automatically when inside interior spaces and Daedric Shrines not displaying subtitles when players interact with them.

On the gameplay side of things, players should notice improvements to certain animations, while crashes are also being addressed.

  3. In the new properties pop-up window, select “Betas”
  4. In the beta drop down to opt into, select “[beta]”
  5. Wait for app to download new build and launch

All the The Elder Scrolls games are up to 75% off in Bethesda’s weekend sale, with 20% off Oblivion Remastered

Short of The Elder Scrolls 6 actually coming out, there’s never been a better time to be an Elder Scrolls fan. Oblivion Remastered is rekindling the love for Bethesda’s most lovably janky Elder Scrolls game, while mod projects like Tamriel Rebuilt and Skyblivion are either releasing massive new updates or are rapidly approaching completion. Now, there’s a chance to pick up any bits of Elder Scrolls history you’ve missed for a discount, as Bethesda has put the whole dang series on sale.

The most notable deal here is for Oblivion Remastered itself, which is 20% off at $40/£40. While not an enormous discount, it’s a decent chunk when you consider how long it’s been since launch, and how successful the overhaul has been. Certainly, it’s the cheapest the game has ever been, a better discount than Fanatical’s launch day sale which brought the price down to $41.50.

The biggest discounts are on Skyrim Special Edition, two different versions of Oblivion Game of the Year Edition, and the Elder Scrolls Online, all of which are 75% off. Oblivion GOTY is the cheapest of the bunch, down to $3.74 (£3.24). If you get the ‘Deluxe’ version (which includes the two expansions plus various smaller DLC), that brings the price up slightly to $5 (£4). The Elder Scrolls Online is also $5 (£4), which nets you the base game plus its Morrowind chapter. TESO’s come a long way since its launch days, so this might be the best overall deal of the bunch.

As for Skyrim, the Special Edition is $10 (£8.74), while you can get the Anniversary Edition upgrade, which includes a bunch of Creation Club mods, for the same price again. Steam’s user rating is split precisely down the middle on the Anniversary edition though, with a lot of users complaining that they couldn’t download the mods after purchasing. Even the positive reviews tend to suggest that you buy it on sale. So if you really want to get it, now is probably the time. Oh, and Skyrim VR is also on a 75% discount at $15 (£12.49). It’s a great VR port of the game if you fancy exploring Skyrim in stereoscopic 3D.

There are a couple of lesser Elder Scrolls games also available in the sale. The Elder Scrolls Redguard is 60% off at $2.39 (£1.95), while An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire is the same price. Both are pretty middling spinoffs, but if you must complete your collection, this is a cheap way of doing so.

Finally, there’s good old Morrowind, which is 60% off at $6 (£5.19). It’s been said a thousand times before, but Morrowind is an essential part of every PC Gamer’s library. Not only is it Bethesda’s most interesting game, it’s also the basis for countless fascinating mods, including the enormous (and still growing) Tamriel Rebuilt, which just released a huge new chunk of the Morrowind mainland, and is already eyeing up the next area, Almalexia.

All these deals run through the weekend until Thursday, June 5.

Oblivion Remastered just got a full Skyrim-style smithing system thanks to a modder, in case you’ve missed making stuff by getting very good at banging hot things

Right, so. Oblivion Remastered modders continue to find ways to pull off really cool stuff despite not having any official tools. The latest interesting new mod to drop adds a whole Skyrim-style smithing system and skill to the game, and it’s by someone who’d already blown us away with their faction overhauls.

Yep, modder ColdTyrant’s back at it again, clearly not having been content with all of the interesting Oblivion Remastered modding efforts we recently chatted to them about. During that convo, they teased “a secret project” they thought everyone would dig – I’m not sure if this is that, but it’d certainly qualify in my book.

Their latest work is ‘Skill Line – Smithing’, and as you’d expect from the name, it adds the ability to make gear at a forge to Oblivion as a totally separate thing to the established armourer skill that revolves around bashing your sword with a hammer to stop it breaking.

You’ll find new interactable forges – each made up of a “smithing chest” where you store any materials you want to use for crafting, plus an anvil and leather rack you can then interact with to turn that stored stuff into new gear or the usual processed animal bits you’ll need to forge certain stuff. There’s also an “equipment smelter” you can use to melt down existing unenchanted gear into raw materials for crafting – though in a wonderful lore-based twist, you can’t melt down Imperial Legion armour without a special permit.

The mod adds one of these forging stations to each of Cyrodiil’s major cities – you can find their exact locations by looking through the mod page’s images – as well as the Shivering Isles. In order to find out which materials are required to craft certain weapons and armour, you’ll need to consult a special smithing workbook ColdTyrant’s left a free copy of atop every anvil he’s added.

That said, you’ll also have to make sure your character’s got the smithing skills to craft what they want to, with the mod adding in a book you can use to track how good you’re getting as you craft more and more stuff. “Because it is currently impossible to integrate brand new skills into the User Interface properly,” ColdTyrant explains, “once the mod is initialized the player will be given a book in their Miscellaneous inventory category, which they can use to check not only their current Smithing level, but the percent progress toward their next level.”

As you’d expect, the further towards the level 100 cap this new skill has you get, the more stuff you’ll need to craft to keep increasing your smithing level. Oh, and if you fancy, the Shivering Isles forges will let you make Dark Seducer and Golden Saint gear, because why not?

Sure, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Skyblivion either already have dropped this year or are set to arrive before 2025 is done. But the people crave more revamps of classic TES games, and the modders behind Skywind – a remake of Morrowind in Skyrim’s engine – have just dropped a fresh gameplay showcase.

Yep, in case you forgot, a group of folks have been dilligently working away on their own modernised interpretation of the game about taking a long walk to a mountain so the most charismatic being ever to rock a loincloth/mask combo can chat you up because you’re a reincarnation of his dead mate.

This latest look at Skywind is a 20-minute long run through of the Imperial Legion quest to rescue Joncis Dalomax, a knight errant who’s ended up stuck in the Daedric Shrine of Ashurnibibi.

After picking up the mission from Imsin the Dreamer, whose revamped templar knight armour looks damn cool here, at the Buckmoth Legion Fort south of Ald’ruhn, the devs’ Dunmer adventurer makes their way to the shrine, running into a bandit shakdown on the way. They score bonus TES points for emplying the age-old tactic of giving up some cash, then immediately murder-deathing the robber to get it back.

While there are plenty of cool details – I like the slightly Morrowindy visual flair that’s been added to the ver SkyUI-ish interface all of these Skyrim engine conversions have to use – the aspect of this gameplay showcase I found the most interesting is the architecture of Ashurnibibi. Sure, the exterior of the ruin looks quite Skyrim fort-ish, but once the player’s inside, you can see how much work’s gone into re-creating Morrowind’s otherworldly and jagged Daedric architecture. There are funky patterns on the walls, those weird doors, and murals of death providing the background for skirmishes with the likes of Daedroth and Dremora.

Naturally, this latest bit of gameplay concludes with an update from the Skywind team on their progress, and while the mod’s still without a concrete release date right now, it souns like things are coming along nicely.

“The team has been hard at work this past year and we are excited to share that all 2D art and writing for the base game has now been completed,” the vid’s narrator says, “Other recent advancements include major progress towards creature models and animations, as well as an extensive overhaul of weather, water, and lighting. Additionally, almost all 3000 NPCs have now been cast and voiced.”

Then then go through exactly how each aspect of the mod is progressing, with the bit that caught my attention being that someone’s still needed to play the most important voice acting role – Dagoth Ur. Vivec and Yagrum Bagarn are also still in need of voicebox providers.

Aside from that, the mod team’s looking for volunteers to help develop Skywind, with anyone who has experience “creating 3D clothing models, mixing and mastering voice acting, and implementing assets via the Creation Kit”. Voice file editors, navmeshers, and localisers are also in demand – if any of those fit you, you can head to the mod’s site to apply.

There’s now an Oblivion Remastered mod that lets you, the almighty Hero of Kvatch and saviour of the empire (well, in the short-term), eat rocks. Leave room for dessert – there are gemstones too.

Yes, those of you currently shouting at your screen at home/on the train/in the car park of a supermarket, just like you could in Morrowind, the Elder Scrolls game that’s very good and also an endless source of interesting mechanics/quirks Bethesda should maybe bring back. Some people just like spears or having to search for key locations based on the kind of vague directions you get if you’re on holiday and ask a stranger who hates the fact you exist.

Modder CephalonImp’s ‘Edible Gems’ is one of those ‘does what it says on the tin’ sorts of mods. Inside that tin in this case are a variety of rocks, gems, and ores you’ll pick up as you roam around Cyrodiil like the fantasy equivalent of a gang of rambunctious teenagers on bikes.

It turns 14 miscellaneous items into alchemy ingredients, meaning you can eat them to find out the new alchemical properties the modder’s added to them. Chow down on a gold nugget, and marvel at the aftertaste that’s a bit silency, a bit burdeny, a pinch weakness to shocky, and also packs just a hint of personality fortification. Then, ask Sheogorath to ring up Jamie Oliver, burp, and shout the words ‘Now that’s what I call real cuisine’ down the receiver.

Maybe have three course meal of pearls as a starter, madness and iron ore with a sapphire garnish, then for dessert – for something a bit different – shove a bear pelt down your gullet, because the mod’ll let you eat raw animal hides too. Think of all the nutrition.

CephalonImp’s even given several of these divine dishes the same cocktail of alchemical effects they had in Morrowind, because you can’t eat rocks in a fashion that isn’t lore-friendly (won’t somebody think of the immersion?).

“Flawless and Flawed gem variants have also been removed, but all gems are now worth their Flawless values,” the modder added. See, you’re only getting top-draw grub here and also probably eating something you could have sold for a pretty penny – now that’s RPG choice and consequence, even if we’re not quite at the point of getting mods that make the pointy stuff you ingest inflict health damage a day later, to properly simulate the inevitable chaser to your ill-advised shot.

If there’s one thing us folks who love a good RPG can never have enough of, it’s quests. Oblivion Remastered has plenty in its base form – The Elder Scrolls 4 not being short on stuff to do – but of course modders were always going to add to that.

We’re still at a pretty early stage in terms of folks digging underneath the Unreal Engine second skin Virtuos has cocooned the classic game in and seeing what they can accomplish by pushing the boundaries. However, there’ve been plenty of mods that have already come out and had everyone going full Uriel Septim ‘I’ve seen you in my dreams’ mode.

The latest of these, in my case, had been modder ColdTyrant’s “Infinitum” series, a bunch of mods released in rapid succession that overhaul Oblivion’s already pretty stellar faction questlines by adding in new infinitely accessible radiant quests and systems. They offer nice rewards in return for your character doing more of the job they signed up for – be it assassin, warrior, thief, gladiator, or mage – in a way that’s perfect for roleplaying.

So, having also been intrigued by his earliest works that made it possible to join the Mythic Dawn and become a necromancer in Oblivion Remastered, I decided earlier this week to reach out to ColdTyrant. We chatted about how the quest mods he’s created so far came together, what the next steps in Oblivion Remastered modding might require, and what his future modding plans are. Here’s that conversation:

VG247: What drew you to modding Oblivion Remastered, and has your previous modding experience come in handy when getting up to speed with it?

ColdTyrant: I’ve been playing Oblivion since I was a kid, in 2007 on the PS3. At that age I was absolutely astounded that I could do whatever I wanted, go wherever I wanted, fight, kill, or help whoever I wanted – the game absolutely blew me away and had a fundamental effect on myself and my creativity. I’ve been modding Bethesda games ever since my dad first let me play on his PC, and I was able to download the Construction Set for Oblivion and start poking around to see how things work and what I could make.

I had been following the rumors of an ‘Oblivion Remake’ since January of this year leading up to its eventual shadow drop, and was absolutely floored by the incredible visuals and gameplay overhauls made by the extremely talented team at Virtuos. They breathed new life into one of my all-time favorite video games, and it’s been so exciting to see everyone playing and talking about Oblivion again just like when I was a kid.

Naturally, after I’d already sunken about 100 or so hours into Remaster, I started feeling that itch to get back into the Construction Set. People were (and still are) pumping out mods, tweaks, and tools for Oblivion Remastered like crazy, and I really wanted to sort of get on that wave and see if I could contribute my own content to help enrich players’ experiences further.

VG247: How did you go about creating your first couple of quest/faction expansion mods, Mythic Dawn Rising and Dark Path of The Necromancer? Was it a case of wanting more evil options and finding out what was possible, or did you go in with a set vision?

ColdTyrant: When I decided it was time to start modding Remastered, I really wasn’t sure where to start. I’ve always been fascinated with the villains Bethesda has created, and I know many players (including myself) have a desire to explore the idea – what if *I* was the bad guy?

I started re-learning Oblivion’s scripting and quest system, and ultimately decided I wanted to create an alternate path to the Main Quest, where the player could decide to explore what it would be like to actually be a member of Mehrunes Dagon’s Mythic Dawn cult. This mod was sort of a test of what I could get away with mechanically – a proof of concept to myself, and it’s a bit light on content and needs a big update (I’m working on this!).

After I released Mythic Dawn Rising, I just kept playing around with scripts and variables and seeing what could be done. When I discovered the different types of systems I’d be able to create with what I’d discovered, my ideas really began to run wild.

Dark Path of the Necromancer started as just a mod that would add an alternative way for players to create Black Soul Gems, but as I’d finish one feature I’d think of another, then get to work on it – then another, then another. It quickly sort of snowballed into this big project with multiple necromantic-centered systems, and I really love how it turned out. Sort of accidentally, I’d wound up creating another mod that allowed the player to explore membership with another previously forbidden faction.

VG247: I’ve noticed that in both of those mods’ descriptions you note that you’re hoping to add more to them once more advanced Oblivion Remastered modding tools are out there. What kinds of tools are you most keen to see emerge going forwards and can you paint me a picture of what the ‘ideal versions’ of those mods might look like?

ColdTyrant: So, with modding the original Oblivion, it’s a lot simpler – anything you put into the game world will just be there when you load up the mod. No requirements, no difficult installation instructions, just plug and play. If I dropped a new NPC named Bob the Mage into Anvil, he’d just be there!

Oblivion Remastered is a bit more complicated. Virtuos has created an incredibly remarkable hybrid engine that combines both Gamebryo (an earlier version of Creation Engine) and Unreal Engine 5. Gamebryo handles the scripts, quests, and gameplay mechanics, while Unreal Engine 5 handles all rendering – meshes, textures, menus, lighting, shadows, effects, lines of text, pretty much anything and everything the player sees on their screen.

What this means in layman’s terms is that if I dropped Bob the Mage into Anvil in Remastered using the Gamebryo Oblivion Construction Set, well… that’s not enough to make him show up. At best, a visit to Anvil will result in him being completely invisible, and at worst, a game crash. This is because Gamebryo no longer handles rendering.

Unreal Engine needs to be told by Gamebryo via strings what actually exists and what to render into the game. Everything needs a table string entry that connects back to Unreal, or you’ll have problems.

Fortunately, some incredibly talented modders (I like referring to them as engineers) have created tools like TesSyncMapInjector or the Fix & Port Script for xEdit that do this job for us – so Bob the Mage can exist in Oblivion Remastered.

However, this means players will be required to install these tools on their end to experience mods that add new items and systems to Oblivion Remastered, and it can be frustrating for new people that want to get into modding their games, but feel intimidated by all these requirements and specific installation instructions.

So ideally, we’ll get to a point where either Bethesda/Virtuos release official modding tools for the remaster or talented mod engineers are able to create tool(s) that make mods fully compatible with Unreal, without the end user needing to install extra requirements. For the ‘Oldblivion’ versions of my mods, they are all plug and play – no requirements. But for Remastered – for now – you’ll always need UE4SS and TesSyncMapInjector.

VG247: What inspired you to take on your Infinitum series, how was it putting together each of the radiant quest systems and deciding on the unique twists you were going to give each faction’s system? One of the things I found most interesting about the Dark Brotherhood one was the gacha-style Dark Token reward system, so how did the idea for that specifically come about?

ColdTyrant: The ‘radiant quest system’ I’ve designed was actually initially a side feature in another currently unnamed mod project regarding the Blackwood Company, as my original intention was to continue the ‘join and play evil factions’ genre of mods I’d released so far.

When I discovered during testing how much fun I was having just doing infinite quests, I thought to myself – I need to adapt this to the main factions. From there, once again, my ideas started to kind of run wild.

I ‘extracted’ the radiant quest system from my Blackwood project, ported it into a new project, and reworked it for the Dark Brotherhood. I think a lot of people feel this way, but Oblivion’s Dark Brotherhood is by far my favorite questline in the game, and I say that while really loving all of the major factions. I wanted to be able to take contracts to assassinate people forever, and I hoped others would too. In the end, Dark Brotherhood – Infinitum was born, and the series kicked off.

As far as the ‘gacha reward system’, I wanted to create a unique way for the player to get random rewards, but also be able to choose what type of reward they’re interested in. Creating a gacha that may or may not give the player something good for their Dark Tokens I thought would be a fantastic way to motivate the player to keep doing infinite contracts besides just the fun of sneak killing and gold.

If the popularity of certain gacha games is any indicator, people really love being able to take their chances and roll for rewards, even if the odds are stacked against them. Fortunately, however, Creeper does NOT charge the player any real-world money!

Some players complained that Creeper being in the Cheydinhal Sanctuary is not immersive (hence my ‘No Creeper’ optional version), and I totally get it – but I love Morrowind just as much as Oblivion and Skyrim, and I’m sure any Morrowind player is aware of the “meme” of selling Creeper hundreds of sets of Dark Brotherhood armor. Why wouldn’t he show up? He wants more of that stuff! It was just a fun reference in the end, and I was hoping people would get a kick out of it!

VG247: What are your personal plans and general hopes for Oblivion Remastered modding going forwards, especially when it comes to quest mods – are there any complex ideas you’ve not tried yet that you’re keen to give a go once the tech’s there and do you think there’s a high ceiling in terms of what people might eventually pull off?

ColdTyrant: Similar to what I mentioned earlier, the ideal situation for Oblivion Remastered modding will be the release of official modding tools to ‘grease the wheels’ on the mod development process – but given the complexity of the hybrid engine, I’m not sure if this will happen. It would be really nice, though, so our friends playing on console can hop on the hype wave of Remastered modding too.

As far as my plans – the next (and final, for the major factions) mod in the Infinitum series will be Mages Guild – Infinitum. This mod will feature an endless Creature Research system, a brand new Elixir-crafting system separate from regular Alchemy, and radiant quests to deliver those Elixirs to the various Mages Guild Halls. Additionally there will be an endlessly-available staff-crafting system.

Since the Mages Guild is a bit different, and focused more on scholarly endeavors and magical power, I’m hoping people really enjoy it!

Once the main Infinitum Series is complete, I’ll likely shift my focus to a big Mythic Dawn Rising update, and a secret project I’ve been writing up, that I think people will really love!

As far as whether or not I’ve tried certain ideas due to current limitations (I consider Remastered modding to currently be in its infancy), there are certainly a few. I try not to lean *too* heavily into NPC dialogue, for example, since we can’t use custom voice files yet, or have an elegant solution like ‘Elys Universal Silent Voice’ which exists for Oldblivion.

I think there is a high ceiling for learning and getting into more complex scripting if you’ve never done it before, but really, the sky is the limit when it comes to Bethesda modding – there are hundreds and hundreds of mod authors far more talented than myself that have created incredible content for all of Bethesda’s single-player masterpieces.

As time marches on, I’m really excited to see the things people continue to pump out for Oblivion Remastered. It’s really exciting to see what people can come up with!

Oblivion Remastered gets unlimited elixir and staff crafting thanks to a massive mod that makes the Mages Guild all about “unraveling the mysteries of magic”

If you’ve ever thought Oblivion’s Mages Guild questline didn’t do enough to help your roleplay as a proper scholar of magic, a new Oblivion Remastered mod that casts an alteration spell on the faction looks like it’s got you covered. It adds a bunch of new systems, including infinite elixir and staff crafting.

It’s the latest entry in modder ColdTyrant’s Infinitum series, which has seen the modder overhaul all of Cyrodiil’s major factions by introducing radiant quest systems that let you take on, for example, as many Dark Brotherhood contracts or Fighters Guild monster hunts as you like. They’ve already taken on those two factions. plus the Thieves Guild and Arena.

That said, their Mages Guild overhaul ‘Mages Guild – Infinitum’ seems to be the most ambitious of the lot, adding six new systems to deliver infinitely repeatable activities designed to help the faction feel like it’s actually all about “unraveling the mysteries of magic”.

There’s elixir crafting that sounds like alchemy on steroids, staff making that lets you “craft a variety of different staffs of different skill levels across all six different schools of magic” in a fashion that’s far more in-depth than that one quest in the base game, and skill studying that’s lets you get better at magic by reading tomes once a day, rather than having to stand around spamming fireballs.

The mod also has some activities aimed at more outdoorsy magic users. There’s a “beast research system” that sees you harvest “Unaspected Essences” from creatures you encounter, which can then be logged in a special tome, rewarding you with boosts to major attributes.

If you’re in the mood for more of the kind of magical admin the base game has in spades, you can take on elixir deliveries and recycle the robes of necromancers you defeat by popping them into bins the mod adds to each guildhall. Both of those are ways to earn some extra gold and in the case of the latter, soul gems. I’m very much now wondering which poor Mages Guild members have to put the bins out.

“The Mages Guild has always been a weird faction,” ColdTyrant wrote, “Depending on how you progress the Mages Guild in Morrowind, you could find yourself performing any number of unseemly tasks. In Oblivion, you spend much of your time performing chores or odd jobs – confronting poor leadership or cleaning up the messes of irresponsible peers.

“It was difficult to decide what direction I wanted to take with Mages Guild – Infinitum, especially since being a Mage has always been my favorite. I decided to add as many endless or nigh endless and engaging systems as I could, to pump just as much exciting content into this major faction as I have for all the others.”

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered tops April sales, becoming 2025’s third-biggest selling game | US Monthly Charts

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered topped Circana’s charts for US game sales in April 2025 – becoming the third best-selling game of the year to date – while video game spending across games, hardware, and accessories all slipped a little year-on-year, by 2%, 8%, and 2%, respectively.

As noted by analysts Circana, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion: Remastered sold more units in April 2025 than The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion achieved across its first 15 months in market combined. It has also generated more “full game dollar sales” than the original’s first 14 months combined.

As detailed by Circana’s executive director, Mat Piscatella, Forza Horizon 5 was the second-best-selling game after its PS5 debut, whilst Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – which also jumped to PS5 this month – came in in third position. Four of the top five – and five of the top seven – best-selling PlayStation games were published by Microsoft.

In news unlikely to surprise you, Call of Duty HQ led all titles when it comes to monthly active users, but Schedule 1 boasted the biggest active users in April on Steam. Monopoly Go!, Royal Match, and Candy Crush Saga were the biggest games in terms of consumer spending in April.

Hardware sales in April fell to $186 million – that’s down 8% year-on-year, and the “lowest monthly hardware dollar sales total reached in the US market since July 2020. While both PS5 and Switch hardware sales were down – the latter by a considerable 37% – Xbox bucked the trend by seeing Xbox Series sales increase by 8%. Accessory spending was down 2% YoY.

“While April 2025 showed a slight decline in the U.S. mobile games market compared to March, several top games continued to perform strongly,” said Lexi Wei of Sensor Tower.

“Gossip Harbor: Merge & Story experienced the most significant ranking improvement this month, climbing five spots to enter the top ten at #9. This surge was driven by a 9.8% increase in consumer spending, largely attributed to the Easter Jamboree event launched on April 10, which introduced new decorative content and gameplay elements.”
