Elden Ring Nightreign: How Long To Beat

by admin June 1, 2025

Elden Ring was a massive open-world game that stretched well beyond what many of us expected back in 2022; and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC even added dozens more hours of fun. Elden Ring Nightreign, on the other hand, is a multiplayer roguelike game with a smaller scope and more focused, action-packed gameplay loop designed to keep you and some friends trying its limited expeditions again and again (and again).

As such, you’re not going to find seemingly endless new encounters or areas to explore within this entry in the franchise. Instead, you’ll find that the game is lengthy in an entirely different way, demanding hours and hours of dedication and an acceptance that failure and repetition are part of the game’s design. Here’s what to know about the amount of gameplay you’ll find in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

How long is Elden Ring Nightreign?

Elden Ring Nightreign is a challenging game that requires a lot of strategy and teamwork, so how long it takes to beat will vary greatly from person to person. Your success in this ultra-challenging multiplayer roguelike depends greatly on learning the best spots on the map for getting what you need, adapting to ever-changing scenarios, and leveraging your chosen character’s unique skillset.

With all of this in mind, it’s difficult to tell you just how long you’ll spend in Elden Ring Nightreign. As you set off on your initial few expeditions, success can seem nearly impossible. And whether or not you begin to find a groove is, again, dependent on your patience, adaptability, and skill.

Some folks may take dozens of hours playing a single expedition, while a really solid group with high skill and a bit of luck may complete it on their first try. Completing every expedition and tackling the true final boss of the game can take anywhere from 25-40 hours for veteran players, and those who struggle with these types of games (or have particularly bad luck) could see their game time stretched to upwards of 60 hours.

Of course, all of this is just to complete each of the expeditions once, which is barely scratching the surface of Elden Ring Nightreign. Completionists will find there are a handful of questlines tied to each of the characters that require you to finish certain expeditions or complete specific things on the world map. And there are enough trophies and achievements to keep diehards busy for many additional hours.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to tackle Elden Ring Nightreign ,you can grab it now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.

Should you play Elden Ring Nightreign solo?

by admin June 1, 2025

FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games all included multiplayer in some form, but with Elden Ring spin-off Nightreign it’s turned the soulslike genre into a true co-operative online experience. Players team up in groups of three to take on fearsome Nightlord bosses, able to seamlessly share in its exhilarating thrills together.

Yet this seems to go against fans of the genre. Sure, being able to summon help in the original Elden Ring led to community superstars like Let Me Solo Her, and there are mods to make seamless co-operative play possible. But for the most part, these games are predominantly solo experiences, offering grimdark worlds to explore with the occasional threat of player invasion. And with the reveal Switch 2 game The Duskbloods will similarly be an online multiplayer game, FromSoftware even had to reassure fans it’s still making solo games too.

However, it’s still possible to play Elden Ring Nightreign on your own. The question is: should you?

Elden Ring Nightreign Review – An Authentic Souls ExperienceWatch on YouTube

Like many, I’ve always played Souls games completely alone and I’ve mostly ignored the series’ multiplayer mechanics, so I was intrigued to see how Nightreign would hold up. As I wrote in my Elden Ring Nightreign review, though, the game has surprisingly convinced me a co-operative Souls game can be just as challenging and thrilling. Yet reviewing a multiplayer game is an interesting experience, as there’s a limited pool of fellow media to join up with. That meant in the early stages I did dabble in the game’s single player mode – there’s an option to launch an expedition on your own instead of a team of three, though at present there’s no option for two players.

By comparison to playing with others online, playing Nightreign solo is an extremely lonely, frustrating, and repetitive experience. I would not recommend it – at least, not at first.

It’s clear, Nightreign has been designed primarily as a multiplayer experience, with players relying on each other for support. Character skills can sync up together for increased damage, and players can revive one another if downed in battle. What’s more, bosses have huge health pools, sweeping AoE attacks, and rush across the battlefield to target multiple players. At times, they can feel more like an MMORPG boss intended for multiple players. Often the best method for facing a Nightlord as a team is baiting it in one direction for others to hit from another angle.

But that’s not possible alone. Instead, you’ll likely be overwhelmed by a flurry of attacks, or spend time chasing after bosses rather than engaging them. And once knocked down, there’s no one to help revive you – and when facing a Nightlord, that means restarting an entire forty minute run all over again. FromSoftware has scaled down enemy health for solo players and there are purchasable revival items, but playing alone is absolutely a struggle. Runes – your experience gained by defeating enemies – are shared between multiple players, so as a team you can swiftly beat groups of enemies to quickly level up. Alone, smaller encounters waste your time and bosses are frustratingly challenging. What’s more, you can’t cover as much of the map, and won’t level up as quickly, so you’ll likely be severely under-levelled once you reach a boss. And while buff-providing Relics can boost your chances of success, you could spend hours grinding alone for the best ones to use. The game just isn’t designed that way.

Elden Ring Nightreign is fundamentally designed as a multiplayer experience | Image credit: FromSoftware

Of course, it’s still possible to play solo. And no doubt there will be experts already looking to rise to Nightreign’s considerable challenge without aid from other players. But this will require significant understanding of character skills, boss patterns and weaknesses, and the most optimal route across the map, all learned after hours of play. This isn’t a game to tackle alone until you’re aware of all its intricacies.

Solo play does have its place, though. While the Roundtable Hold, your base of operations, includes a training area, there’s nothing like a bit of in-the-field action to understand each character’s moveset. So if, like me, you’re too embarrassed to test a character for the first time with others, you can at least do a dummy run of the game alone offline without the prying or judgemental eyes of others.

It’s also handy for completing the game’s Remembrances. Each character has a distinct story, told through journal entries and extra missions, which often means defeating a certain enemy or finding a certain item on the map. These can be completed with others, but going alone allows you to rush over and focus on these missions without interrupting the strategies of other players.

How will The Duskbloods shake up the FromSoftware formula? | Image credit: FromSoftware

Still, the design of Nightreign is fundamentally geared towards three players and sharing those strategies. Playing with friends on voice chat is the best experience; playing with random matchmaking is feasible; and playing alone is a chore – even if the game’s day one patch has made some balance adjustments.

Yet there’s more to come. Next year FromSoftware will release The Duskbloods on Switch 2 and I’m intrigued to see what the studio will learn from Nightreign. Will it further blur the boundaries between a multiplayer and solo experience? And if all fans really want is another truly single-player game, how long will they have to wait?

Elden Ring Nightreign gets strong start on Steam, despite Mixed reaction

by admin June 1, 2025

UPDATE 4.30pm UK: Elden Ring Nightreign has had two million players in its first day.

FromSoftware shared the news on social media, celebrating the co-operative spin-off’s launch day.

A second patch is due next week to improve the game for solo players, following a backlash against the multiplayer game.

ORIGINAL STORY 11am UK: Elden Ring Nightreign, released today, is off to an immediately strong start on Steam.

The online co-op spin-off has already reached a peak concurrent player count of 313,593 players within its first few hours of availability.

It’s also sitting comfortably in the top five most played games of the last 24 hours.

Elden Ring Nightreign For Dummies: Basics For EVERYTHING You Need to Know (But Were Afraid to Ask)Watch on YouTube

Of course, Steam’s most played games list tends to be dominated by multiplayer games – by their nature, they attract more players.

By contrast, the original Elden Ring has a peak concurrent player count of 953,426, sitting at ninth in the all-time most played games.

Still, there’s clearly interest in FromSoftware’s multiplayer experiment, although user reviews so far are “Mixed”. Many are complaining about the inability to play with two players, as well as the poor communication options without voice chat.

“No duo option, had random people join to just run off and do their own thing. Let me duo with my mate…” reads one particular review.

Indeed, the game is at its best when played with three friends. It’s possible to play solo, but isn’t recommended.

FromSoftware has stated it’s considering a two-player option in future, admitting it was “overlooked” during development.

The game is also available across PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

A day one patch is available to download, which brings balance adjustments and bug fixes. However, FromSoftware has warned some PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience frame rate drops.

“FromSoftware’s multiplayer spin-off is an exhilarating rush and a celebration of the studio’s prior achievements Souls veterans will devour,” reads our Elden Ring Nightreign review.

Elden Ring Nightreign Already Has A Two-Player Co-Op Mod On PC

by admin June 1, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign may have only just launched but a well-known modder has already released a much requested Duos mode mod that players can download from the Elden Ring Nightreign Nexus for the PC version of the game.

The mod comes from Luke Yui, the modder also responsible for the popular Seamless Co-op mod for Elden Ring, as well as other From Software games. Within a few hours of Nightreign going live, Yui shared a short video demonstrating a prototype two-player setup that wasn’t connected to matchmaking servers. It wasn’t long after that that the actual mod launched for everyone else to use.

Now Playing: Elden Ring Nightreign GameSpot Video Review

Elden Ring Nightreign is intended as an online co-op game for three players, or solo, but with no option to only play in pairs unless they match with a random third wheel. While a three-person group is quite common in online games, including Apex Legends and Destiny, the lack of a duo option has not gone down well for folks who just want to play with a friend or partner. It’s one of the criticisms highlighted amongst the negative reviews on Steam, where the game is currently sitting at a “Mixed” rating.

The lack of a Duos Mode was made clear during Elden Ring Nightreign’s announcement and game director Junya Ishizaki also explained in an IGN interview back in December that the reason behind focusing on three players was “largely a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision.” In a later IGN interview ahead of the game’s launch, Ishizaki did however admit that duos were “kind of overlooked and neglected” and hinted that support may come post-launch.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, this is yet another example of modders stepping in to add such missing features to a game.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, X.box One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Defeat Fulghor

Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Defeat Fulghor

by admin May 31, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign has plenty of hard boss fights, with some harder than others. And there’s one particular boss that you’re more than likely to have some trouble with. It’s called Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow.

Tactical RPGs, Creepy Circuses & More New Releases | The Week In Games

At the roundtable, the Darkdrift Knight mission is where you’ll fight it on the third day. This one is a one-armed centaur with a spear, and he’s certain to be considered one of the hardest Nightlords in the game.

Here are some tips on how to beat Fulghor.

Preparation

It’s absolutely essential that you face Fulghor with a lightning elemental weapon equipped. While it’s still possible to beat him without one, lightning will make the battle easier. Not only is Fulghor weak to this “element”, but it can also stop him from unleashing one of his most devastating attacks. So when exploring Limveld, make sure to prioritize camps that have the lightning icon so you can potentially find the proper weapon.

Class composition isn’t as important for this boss as having a lightning elemental weapon. Given how fast Fulghor is, however, having at least one Ironeye will be helpful as you can immediately attack the boss when needed. This can come in handy as, depending on how close any given melee character is to Fulghor, you might not have enough time to use a melee lightning weapon to break Fulghor out of one of its attacks, and that’s where a well-placed shot .

Fighting Fulghor

Fulghor hits hard and fast. One particularly annoying attack sees it swipe its lance into the ground, creating a shockwave that travels forward. The shockwave is delayed, which makes it difficult to time a dodge. Aside from that, it’ll also do some standard swiping and lunging attacks with its weapon, which are all easier to dodge in comparison.

On occasion, Fulghor will continuously charge around the battlefield, leaving a large trail of light. Not only do you have to dodge the charge itself, but also the shockwave that comes after. The trail of light will eventually explode, so move out of the way.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

Later on during the fight, Fulghor will develop a gross second, purple arm. It’ll start slamming the battlefield with it while also attacking you. The best way to avoid this attack is to just dodge roll through it as they aren’t multi-hit moves.

Read More: How To Defeat Libra, Nightreign’s Madness-Inducing Boss

Its most devastating attack is where it charges up like Libra, except this time the charge is much faster. Fulghor will have a glowing aura at its feet, and if it finishes its charge, blades of lightning will come up from the ground and pierce you. This attack is almost instantaneous so it’s difficult to dodge. Fulghor does this fairly often during the fight, so pay attention.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

However, this is where your lightning weapon comes in handy. Once it begins charging, simply attack (no Ultimate needed). There’s a chance that a lightning bolt will strike down and disrupt Fulghor’s attack completely. That’s not always a guarantee, though. Fulghor can still finish the attack uninterrupted and inflict huge damage to your squad. But if all three of you have lightning weapons, there’s a more likely chance that one of you will disrupt Fulghor as you’re attacking it.

Fulghor is one of the toughest Nightlords in the game, so don’t be discouraged if you end up losing to it. Preparation goes a long way.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.

Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Defeat Caligo

Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Defeat Caligo

by admin May 31, 2025

In Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll face off against difficult bosses called Nightlords. These appear on Day Three, after you’ve spent the first two days preparing. They’re your final challenge before completing your expedition.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

One of the missions you’ll embark on is called Fog of the Fissure, and the Nightlord you’ll be taking on is called Caligo, Miasma of Night. This one is an ice dragon that specializes in AOE attacks, which can be annoying. However, there’s a special in-game event that could help you out immensely if you’re lucky.

Preparation

Being made of ice, Caligo’s weakness is fire, so it’s important to find a fire elemental weapon during your expedition. Just look for structures on the map with the fire icon and defeat the bosses there for a chance at earning a corresponding elemental weapon..

If the Mountaintop Shifting Earth event is active, trekking up the mountain to get the bonus at the end is worth it. Shifting Earth events are random occurrences in the game that will change a part of Limveld’s map.

If you reach the top of Mountaintop, you’ll earn a passive buff that will greatly increase your frost resistance as well as increase your damage against dragons. Since we’re going up against an ice dragon, Mountaintop is definitely worth tackling on Day Two where you’ll have more of a fighting chance against the monsters there.

Ranged classes like Ironeye are helpful too as you can aim for Caligo’s head.

Strategies for fighting Caligo

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

Caligo is gigantic, even by Nightlord standards. As such, it doesn’t move nearly as often as others and that can make for an easy target. It’ll typically swipe with its claws, but that attack is easily telegraphed and dodged by rolling forward.

Caligo will start incorporating ice into its attacks, such as its freezing breath. This attack spreads out in a cone, so be sure to dodge roll behind Caligo. There is another breath attack where Caligo will stand on its hind legs and breathe fog directly down in front of it. The same strategy as before applies here—get behind Caligo. This attack can also form icicles on the ground that will inflict damage and build up frostbite should you touch them. Avoid these.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

Eventually, Caligo will cover the entire screen with fog. You’ll also sometimes see a gust of black wind heading in a specific direction at the same time. Follow it until you find a pillar of ice to hide behind. This will shield you from Caligo’s upcoming huge ice wave attack.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

In a variation of this attack, Caligo will summon a gigantic sheet of ice to come crashing down into the ground. The sound of ice cracking signals this attack. Unfortunately, right now it seems like the only way to avoid this attack is to run as fast as you can away from the noise and pray that you’re out of the ice sheet’s range before the fog lifts and the sheet comes crashing down.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / George Yang / Kotaku

Caligo will also fly around and summon meteors to hit you. This is the most mobile it’ll be through the entire fight. Fortunately, this move is rather rare and easier to dodge than Caligo’s other ones.

Arguably, Caligo is a more annoying boss battle than it is a hard one, especially due to how much space its attacks cover. Timing your expedition with the Mountaintop event will make the fight significantly easier, so make sure you get every advantage you can.

FromSoft acknowledges issues with Elden Ring Nightreign matchmaking

by admin May 31, 2025

If you’re jumping into Elden Ring Nightreign this weekend and are struggling to find a Player 2 – and/or a Player 3 – you’re not alone.

In a brief statement posted to official Elden Ring social media accounts about an hour ago (Saturday, 31st May), developer FromSoftware is recommending players “restart the matchmaking process” if they’re struggling to find a co-op partner.

“Nightfarers. If you encounter issues finding other players when launching an expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign, please try restarting the matchmaking process,” the brief message suggested. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Nightfarers,

If you encounter issues finding other players when launching an expedition in #ELDENRING #NIGHTREIGN, please try restarting the matchmaking process.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It may not quite fix the issue for all players, however; as one commenter asked in the replies: “How often am I supposed to restart it? Yesterday I spend [sic] several hours restarting it on PS5 to not even play one match…”

Finding a co-op partner is pretty important for Nightreign players. As Ed wrote yesterday, he wouldn’t recommend Nightreign as a solo game at this point as it’s clearly not the intended way to play. However, it seems FromSoftware is aiming to respond to the current backlash to make solo play more feasible, with the studio previously stated it was considering a two-player option post-launch, acknowledging it was “something that was overlooked during development”.

“FromSoftware’s multiplayer spin-off is an exhilarating rush and a celebration of the studio’s prior achievements Souls veterans will devour,” Ed wrote in our Elden Ring Nightreign review.

Can You Play Elden Ring Nightreign Solo?

by admin May 31, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign is a tough-as-nails game that blends the beloved roguelike and soulslike genres into something fans of both should find appealing. However, unlike most games in either genre, this one’s inherently designed around working together in a group of three. So, you may be wondering if you can strike out on your own in Elden Ring Nightreign. While the game is about to get easier for folks who choose to go it alone, right now such a style proves an exceptionally difficult challenge.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

Can you play Elden Ring Nightreign solo?

Let’s get this out of the way first: Yes, Elden Ring Nightreign offers the option for solo play. To do so, you’ll need to open the expedition menu at Roundtable Hold, then switch over to the matchmaking settings tab. At the bottom of the menu, set the Expedition Type to “Singleplayer.”

Read More: Elden Ring Nightreign Is About To Become Easier For Solo Players

The real question is whether Elden Ring Nightreign’s single-player experience is manageable or fun, and that really depends on your skill level, class choice, and patience more so than in any other similar game I can remember playing.

If you really want to go at it by yourself, [play as] Ironeye or Wylder.

Elden Ring Nightreign is already pretty damn challenging when running with a group of three other folks. The game’s sense of randomness adds a lot of unknowns to an expedition, and things can go wrong very quickly. But with a team, you can be revived, have someone else available to take some aggro from you when things get hairy, and use your character’s abilities to complement one another in difficult showdowns. It’s often still hard as hell, but victory usually feels possible even when things don’t go quite as planned.

However, when you’re alone…Well, you’re all alone. If you die on a solo expedition, that’s it. You’re done. Back to the Roundable Hold with you, loser.

With this in mind, some folks may find the anxiety-inducing pacing and chaotic showdowns enjoyable even while solo; but those who struggle to succeed without a group may find it demoralizing to watch hours go by without making any meaningful progress. And since some classes are much better for solo play than others, it can be even more frustrating to go it alone for someone who prefers to play one of the support-focused classes.

Best characters for solo play

If you really want to go at it by yourself, I’d recommend taking a look at Ironeye or Wylder.

Ironeye’s ranged playstyle is the safest in the game, giving you a lot of freedom to tackle enemies your own way. For instance, you can take the high ground against some foes to avoid their attacks altogether, or use his sliding ability to dodge an attack and get behind an enemy for better positioning.

Wylder, meanwhile, is a jack-of-all-trades character with a solid health pool and balanced stats that make him great at adapting to whatever type of loot a run provides. Simply grab any melee weapon and you’ll probably be doing alright with this fella. Plus, he has some of the coolest skins in the game. That doesn’t help you in battle, but like…come on. He looks rad.

In conclusion, while things can certainly go poorly even with a team, I’d argue playing by your lonesome leaves too little room for error for a game that requires such a hefty time investment and minimal payoff for failure. Elden Ring Nightreign is designed from the ground up to be played with others, after all. Your mileage may vary, though, so play however you have fun with it!

You can pick up Nightreign now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs. You’ll have to look elsewhere to pick up two other friends to play with, though.

Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Change Outfits

by admin May 31, 2025

Screenshot: FromSoftware / Billy Givens / Kotaku

The original Elden Ring allowed you to create a character and deck them out in any number of unique pieces of armor to truly show off your fashion skills. However, multiplayer spin-off Nightreign features fixed character classes and progress that resets after every run, so you won’t be finding any sick armor to wear in this one. Instead, you’ll need to purchase and change full outfits for each character if you want to look different.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

How to change outfits in Elden Ring: Nightreign

To change your outfit in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll first need to complete two full expeditions. This could take quite a few hours, depending on your skill level, luck, and access to a decent group. This is a brutally challenging game, after all, so nothing comes quickly. Give it time.

After completing two full expeditions of your choosing, you’ll unlock the “Change Garb” feature in your menu, which you can select to instantly access the outfit-changing menu. However, you can also manually access a mirror on the east side of the Roundtable Hold to access the same menu—though that generally sounds like a bit of unnecessary work.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / Billy Givens / Kotaku

When you first unlock the ability to change garbs, you’ll find that you only have access to a total of three outfits per character. You’ll have the default skin automatically, of course, and you can purchase two additional skins, Dawn and Darkness, for each character using Murk (currency).

If you don’t like either of the extra outfits available in the beginning, don’t worry about it. You can purchase additional outfits much later in the game, so keep at it. It’s an ultra-hard game, but practice makes perfect.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.

Elden Ring Nightreign might not allow you to play in duos, but a user-created Seamless Co-op mod is already allowing players to bypass that trouble.

This new mod is available on Nexusmods, and this guide will provide you with all the necessary information. The process of setting it up is relatively simple, so let’s get to it.

Elden Ring Nightreign Sealess Co-op mod

The newly-released co-op mod is in a rushed alpha state, according to creator Yui, and the features are extremely basic.

  • Two and three-player lobbies
  • Mod-compatibility (due to EAC not running).

Yui has also stated that the mod will be constantly developed, and new features will be added to it.

How to use the Seamless Co-op mod in Elden Ring Nightreign

The first job is to download the required files for Elden Ring Nightreign. The Seamless Co-op mod doesn’t require the use of any prior mods, which makes it easy to set up. You’ll need to log in to your existing Nexusmods account or create one for free.

Screenshot via Nexusmods/Yui

  • The downloadable files are available in the ‘Download’ tab.
  • Extract the downloaded files.
  • Copy and paste the files to the ‘Game’ folder. This will be located within the Steamapps and Common folders, based on where you’ve installed the game. Open Common and you’ll find subfolders for all the games installed on your system (via Steam).
  • Open the “nrsc_settings.ini” and change the required player count to two. You can switch it back to three whenever required.
  • Launch the game from the launcher, and the mod will be loaded up.

If you don’t want to run the mod, launch Elden Ring Nightreign normally. To run the mod, you’ll always have to use the “nrsc_launcher.exe” (remember this step). If you no longer wish to keep the mod, just delete all the downloaded files that you have copy-pasted after extracting them. You’ll need your internet connection to make this mod work, as it won’t be operational in the single-player mod.

Can the Seamless Co-op mod ban you in Elden Ring Nightreign

While the mod requires internet connectivity, it doesn’t connect to the official matchmaking servers. Instead, it uses save files that are different from the vanilla files. The only way to get banned is by trying to tamper with the vanilla files, and you should refrain from doing that at all costs.

Also, both you and your friends should have the mod downloaded on your systems to play and defeat the Nightlords together.
