Nightreign

A cloaked Elden Ring Nightreign character lifts her hand and seemingly looks at it despite wearing a mask

I was surprised and delighted to learn that every FromSoft protagonist outside of Elden Ring Nightreign is 5 feet 7 inches tall, aka the best height for cool people

by admin June 15, 2025

Aside from when it’s wildly out of whack with the game world, I don’t think about the height of videogame characters much. At a modest 5’7, I generally assume that most videogame protagonists are taller than me. There have been a few occasions where a character’s canonical height has surprised me, though. For example, a while back I read that Thief’s antihero Garrett was a strapping six footer, but a recent search revealed that this is actually not the case, and in fact he might be even shorter than me.

I had a similar reaction watching Zullie the Witch’s recent video discussing character height in FromSoftware’s games, in which she reveals that every FromSoft protagonist up until Elden Ring Neightreign is roughly 1.7 metres, or 5 foot 7 inches, tall. I’d always figured they were strapping six footers, if only because it further accentuates how massive the game’s bosses are.

This is, I should stress, not the central point of Zullie’s video. The vid explores how Elden Ring Nightreign’s new character height modifier affects the game mechanically. Elden Ring’s playable characters have noticeably different heights, even though they’re all based on the same player model. The smallest avatar, Revenant, is a petite 4’9, while at 6’6, the Guardian is at risk of bumping his head on doorframes a lot.

As for how this affects the game mechanically, the answer is “not much, but a bit”. Height difference has no effect on movement actions like running or jumping, but they do factor slightly into combat. According to Zullie, smaller characters have a slightly higher chance to avoid being hit by certain attacks (like arrows), while taller characters have marginally longer reach, meaning their swings will hit enemies from further away.

This might not be vastly surprising, but it is interesting regardless. Zullie also notes that the size modifier can be used to adjust the height of any character in Nightreign, and could potentially be used in future FromSoft games, possibly even as a character creation variable. Now I want a FromSoft RPG where you can create a character so small they can attack bosses internally. Though, to be honest, you could probably do that with some of the existing bosses anyway if the games supported it mechanically.

In any case, it pleases me greatly to know I can look all those other FromSoft protagonists in the eye without getting neckache. I suppose it also opens up a lot of cosplay opportunities, which isn’t exactly a huge concern for me. But it’s nice to know that I have options beyond “comic-accurate Wolverine”.

Elden Ring Nightreign players have created the ultimate cheat sheet for the weaknesses and resistances of every Nightlord

by admin June 12, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign has been out for just under two weeks now. Usually, that’s enough time for some prevailing strategies – and clever discoveries – to emerge. Because of the way the game is structured, however, it’s not always easy to replicate your experience, which makes it a lot more difficult to pin down those things.

Case in point, the Nightlords – the game’s ultimate bosses, which the entire experience builds towards. Most players can’t fight them as often as they want to; it’s not like you can just re-enter the boss room after dying, so it’s taken everyone a while to learn a few basic things about them.

The FromSoftware community always delivers, though, and their latest accomplishment is one most players will benefit from. About a week after the game came out, one Japanese player posted a full chart of the weaknesses and resistances of each of Nightreign’s bosses.

The same chart was later translated to English by a different Reddit user, and it’s really something to behold. The chart lists all Nightlords, the type of physical damage each boss is weak against/resistant to (Standard, Slash, Strike, Pierce), as well as the same for elemental damage (Magic, Fire, Lightning, Holy, Poison, Rot, Bleed, Frostbite, Sleep, Madness).

It’s also colour-coded, which makes it much easier to see everything at a glance. Nightreign actually lists the weaknesses of each Nightlord in game, but it only shows one element they’re weak against, and is nowhere near as detailed as that chart.

No more guessing (or arguing). | Image credit: FromSoftware, Bandai Namco Entertainment, CestLaDonut.

Looking at the chart, you can see how Rot is effective against all Nightlords. The only other broadly effective element is Sleep, though not against Augur or Equilibrious Beast. You can also see that each boss has two to four weaknesses, except for Darkrift Knight Fulghor, who only has one.

On the subject of exposing data Nightreign just doesn’t show by default, a dataminer and modder recently dug deeper into the letter grades the game assigns attributes on each character’s stats page and found that they’re mostly misleading. In the background, character stats work pretty much the same way they do in Elden Ring proper.

If you’re looking for similarly useful advice to help you tackle every challenge in FromSoftware’s latest, our Elden Ring Nightreign guide is definitely one you should keep bookmarked. We continue to update it with new discoveries each week, so check back from time to time.

An Elden Ring Nightreign dataminer dove into the numbers to prove that reaching max level isn’t as strong as it seems

by admin June 11, 2025

As if Elden Ring character stats weren’t confusing enough, FromSoftware further obfuscated their purpose in Elden Ring Nightreign. Each Nightfarer has letter ratings instead of numbers to denote their relative proficiency with each stat, but the real values are hidden. You just have to trust they’re going up a meaningful amount each time you level up.

Dataminer and YouTuber Zullie the Witch went under the hood to figure out how stats actually work in Nightreign and found that, while they’re similar to Elden Ring, there are a few caveats that might make you rethink your approach to each run.

For starters, leveling up past 12 doesn’t do a whole lot. Nightreign caps out at 15, but the last three levels only raise your stats by one to two points, which means you might want to spend your runes on buff items instead.

Related articles

She also found that each stat isn’t graded on the same scale. An S in intellect equals about 50, but an S in strength is almost 70 (50 would be an A). The mind stat, which determines how big your mana bar is, grows the slowest as you level up. That might explain why the spellcasters have to hoard items to replenish their FP. And arcane simply doesn’t change no matter what level you are, making Executor the best character for applying status effects in the game.

The letters are a bit misleading – YouTube

Watch On

Zullie gives other tips in the video, like what kind of stats you should look to bring on your relics. There’s nothing in there that seems exploitable or broken, but having the actual numbers helps contextualize how each character grows in power over the course of a run.

The other day my group was given a bonus that increased our attack power based on the amount of runes we had. When we got to the final boss, we all opted to save our runes and not level up past 10. As a result, my dagger on the Duchess hit for almost 300 damage per swing, and I barely felt like I was missing five levels of bonus health. Thanks to Zullie, now I know why it wasn’t a bad choice. It also proves that there’s really no reason to stall out a run just to farm runes until you’re max level. Don’t make your fellow Nightfarers wait for you to jump into the goop for three points of vigor.

Your character’s attribute letter grades in Elden Ring Nightreign don’t really mean much, but you can still use them to your advantage

by admin June 11, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign is, at its core, an RPG with character stats that grow each time you level up. Because of the rapid pace of runs, however, FromSoftware simplified that process and turned it into a one-button affair.

When you reach a Site of Grace, you press that to gain new levels, without having to worry about stat allocation. The game does that in the background, though in different ways depending on your chosen class.

But what about those starting attributes and their letter grades? Well, it’s complicated.

FromSoft dataminer and all-around Souls investigator, Zullie the Witch, have revealed some interesting details about the way stats and levelling work in Nightreign. Their latest video attempts to show the true stats of each of the game’s different classes.

Each class has an attributes screen that lists a few of the more common stats: HP, FP, Strength, Faith and so on. It also assigns a letter grade to each to signify which areas of that spectrum they’re strong/weak in. It does this, however, without revealing any hard numbers, or really explaining what each grade corresponds to.

As you may have already guessed, each class does have a traditional stats screen, which we see in the Zullie’s latest video. Looking at that screen, you can also see that the jump from level 1 to 2 is the biggest across the entire system, with level 12 being the softcap.

Watch on YouTube

The true nature of each class, of course, is dictated by which attributes they favour, but the grading system itself does not appear to follow a set formula. The Duchess, for instance, has a B in in DEX and an A in INT, despite their values being almost identical.

The video also reveals that Relics that boost attack stats are more powerful at lower character levels, but tend to not matter much once you upgrade your weapon, and gain damage bonuses through other sources.

As Zullie points out in the video, of course, Nightreign’s random nature doesn’t make it easy to target specific builds, but knowing each characters’ true stat sheet means you can better pick Relics and other items that you know will benefit your class the most.

In other Nightreign news, the game received a new update yesterday that brought a couple of balance changes, as well as some bug fixes. It’s not a big one, but more is on the way. For more on FromSoft’s latest, hit up our mega Elden Ring Nightreign guide for some juicy tips and walkthroughs.

Elden Ring Nightreign players are currently obsessed with an ultra-rare item they believe hides a major secret

by admin June 10, 2025

It wouldn’t be a FromSoftware game without some deep, deep lore, and secrets that send you down rabbit holes, and it looks like Elden Ring Nightreign players have come across the first one of those in the co-op game.

It all comes back to an incredibly rare item that players initially didn’t know what to do with, but after a bit of work, they figured it out… only to realise it was just the first step in what could be a major secret.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Manage cookie settings

The Nightreign item in question is called Cord End, which – by some estimates – seemingly has about a 0.05% chance of dropping in one of the churches you find all over the game’s world of Limveld.

After some sleuthing, players found an actual use for it. The item opens a door to a cave underneath a castle that sits in the middle of the map. Though the castle itself is a pretty popular spot, the way the door itself is hidden likely made it invisible to most players.

If you have Cord End in your inventory, the door will open. Inside, you’ll find three Sacrificial Twigs. Now, here is when things get interesting. Officially, Sacrificial Twig items prevent you from losing your runes upon death, which is obviously very useful to have, especially in the first two days of a run.

As nice of a boon that is, it’s not enough to warrant how rare the item is, and the process involved in using it to open the secret door. This is part of why players believe there’s more to it than that, and the clue they’re going off of is in the item’s description – where all rabbit holes begin.

It all begins with an item’s description, like all good secrets. | Image credit: FromSoftware, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Hawkshaw.

The Cord End’s description makes a reference to a “cutting-gifted tribe” that “vowed to sacrifice their flesh” to conceal some sort of secret. In the Roundtable Hold’s Crypt area, there are two coffins you can interact with, which also mention cutting.

Even more interesting, however, is that they both also ask that you “bestow branches”, which players believe is a reference to the twigs you gain from the secret area. The text is slightly different between the two interactables, and each points to a different area.

Players believe that one message is likely referring to Recluse, while the other could be about Wylder, and Duchess. Each one also references an area of the map, which could be the home of their respective characters, and may end up playing a role in solving the puzzle.

Perhaps, some theorise, you need these specific classes to carry the Sacrificial Twigs all the way through to the end of the run, and survive. Maybe that’s going to unlock the next step of the quest.

Does Wylder have something to do with this?w | Image credit: Bandai Namco/From Software

Part of what makes this particular secret difficult to crack is just how rare the item’s drop rate is, which slows down progress considerably. Without modding and datamining, we may never end up finding what the deal is with Cord End.

There is, of course, the chance that it may end up amounting to nothing. Not every word in FromSoftware’s games is meant to be part of a larger picture; sometimes it’s just flavour text. We’re going to be following this one, though, because of its potential to be hiding something cool.

Our Elden Ring Nightreign guide may not hold an answer to that particular dilemma, but it will help you get better at the game. And yes, that includes proven strategies to beat Nightlords such as Darkdrift Knight Fulghor, Sentient Pest, and the final boss: the Night Aspect.

FromSoftware is finally doing something about quest matchmaking in Elden Ring Nightreign

FromSoftware is finally doing something about quest matchmaking in Elden Ring Nightreign

by admin June 6, 2025

One of the most confusing aspects of Elden Ring Nightreign’s design don’t have much to do with in-game mechanics, or the loads of key pieces of information the game does not communicate.

No, it has to do with how character quests work, and the way players are supposed to go about advancing them for each of the game’s different classes. Things might get better after today, however, because a fix is being implemented.

If you’re unfamiliar with the structure of quests in Nightreign, here’s how it works: after you play with one character a few times, you get the ability to start their Remembrance, which is essentially their character quest.

The key detail here is that these quests are supposed to be done while on normal runs, so you activate your Remembrance and head out to hopefully get a chance to do what it wants from you so you can reach the next step.

However, as players discovered shortly after launch, having a Remembrance active puts you in a different matchmaking pool that, presumably, also matches you with others doing their own quests. In reality, that makes matchmaking times exceedingly long, which has prevented players from being able to finish their Remembrances, and driven some to just do them solo to avoid that mess. This appears to be a bug that FromSoftware is fixing today.

Maybe you won’t have to do those solo anymore. | Image credit: Bandai Namco/VG247

At the time of this writing, Nightreign servers are offline for two hours for maintenance, which is specifically intended to “improve expedition matchmaking with an active Remembrance,” according to FromSoftware.

Maintenance will end and servers should be back online at 3am PT, 6am ET, 11am UK, assuming the developer doesn’t need to extend that window. We’ll have to see whether or not this will fix matchmaking times.

Unfortunately, this won’t solve the problem of not having a way to tell other players that you’re working on your character’s quest. Some of their requirements will send send you off the beaten path, and make it look like you’re abandoning your team, which can be frustrating for both them and you.

Hopefully a larger solution is in the works to make that experience, at the very least, more transparent for everyone. Until such time, our mega Elden Ring Nightreign guide remains one of the most useful you’ll read.

We recently updated it with new pages to help you take on Darkdrift Knight, and the Night Aspect – two of the Day 3 Nightlord bosses. If builds are more your thing, check out these builds for Wylder, and Recluse.

Elden Ring Nightreign castle guide: How to find the boss at the top

by admin June 5, 2025

Turns out there are bosses everywhere in Elden Ring Nightreign, including the top of the castle that is normally a pain to clear out. Reddit user Aphod posted a clip showing how to scale its walls and reach the boss sitting on top, bypassing tons of enemies on the way. I hopped into a solo run to test it and, yeah, it totally works.

The castle is always located in the center of the map unless you have a Shifting Earth event going on, and the tightening circle tends to end somewhere nearby. The place is always filled with tough enemies scattered throughout its ramparts, but you don’t actually have to fight them if you know where to jump. That said, I’d recommend coming here once you’re at least level eight.

As Aphod’s clip proves, you can actually scale the walls of the castle using parts that stick out just enough for your Nightfarer to grab onto. That means you can rush toward a particular spot and go directly to the boss every run. Alternatively, you can sprint past all the enemies and take the long circuitous route upward through a dining hall the intended way. But who has time for that?

Related articles

This trick requires you to run around to the back of the castle where the gate is closed. On the left is a pile of stone bricks that lead you to a broken wall leading up to the upper floor. Run up that and instead of continuing on to where all the enemies are stationed, you can jump and grab onto the ledge above you. From there you have to hug the wall as you round the corner to the west toward other side of the castle where you can jump up another broken wall to the top.

Figured I’d share a quick way to climb up to the top of the castle since I never see anyone do it from r/Nightreign

In my own test, I found another way to the top by grabbing a ledge right next to the merchant NPC sitting, who’s always in the same spot. It’s pretty much the same deal: Jump up the wall and tiptoe your way in the opposite direction as the previous method and you’ll see a hallway you can drop into. Running through the hallway takes you to the same broken wall leading to the top.

Be prepared for a fight against a tough boss up there. I had the Ancestor Spirit waiting for me, but I’ve also seen a Magma Wyrm crawling around. It’s worth taking the time to climb up there for the loot and the runes though, especially if you’ve already cleared out the other camps.

Elden Ring Nightreign players have figured out how to guarantee you always reach max level by the time you fight your run’s Nightlord, but unfortunately it’s super boring

by admin June 5, 2025

I’ve got a few dozen Elden Ring Nightreign expeditions on the books, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone when I say they haven’t all been successes. Many of those failures have come agonizingly close to victory, where my team’s Nightlord target survived by only a sliver of health—a sliver it probably wouldn’t have had if we’d entered the arena with one or two more levels.

Luckily, Nightreign players on Reddit have found a method for ensuring you’re always at max level when you face off with your run’s final boss. Unfortunately, it’s—well—pretty boring.

The trick is simple: just don’t jump in the goo.

Related articles

Let me explain. The idea is that you run through your expedition as normal until you’ve killed the boss at the end of Day 2. However, once the pile of ethereal goop appears as your gateway to the Spirit Shelter where you’re intended to do your final Nightlord prep, don’t jump in.

Nightreign Pro Tip: Guaranteed level 15 every game and anyone can do it! from r/Nightreign

If you open your map, you’ll see why. Once the Day 2 boss dies, all the Sites of Grace on the map become active. That means, if you intentionally avoid ascending to boss fight heaven, you and your team can run around the map farming enemies, providing enough runes to hit max level.

Now, there is a complication. The battle royale-style circle of hellish, lethal fire is still locked around where you fought the Day 2 boss, so you will be taking tick damage while you’re running around grinding out levels. Thankfully, it’s not much of an issue: Just kill enemies until you run out of flasks and die, and then you can simply run back from the nearest Grace, pick your runes back up, and carry on—collecting your runes after death gives you enough to reclaim your lost level, after all.

The real problem is that this is extremely tedious. It’s easy to imagine a nightmare world in which, very soon, randoms online will get irritated if you aren’t joining them to grind out a few more levels in the hellfire.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

It’s hard to say how likely it is that FromSoft will patch this. On one hand, it’s against the spirit of Nightreign’s whole deal—why have the time pressure of the battle royale circle if you can just ignore it at the end? On the other, doing it is kinda miserable. Time will tell.

If you’re willing to top off your levels with this method, you might want to do it sooner than later. But I’d recommend saving it for when you’re playing with a full party—for all our sakes.

Elden Ring Nightreign Augur Fathom Of Night Boss Guide
Game Updates

Elden Ring Nightreign Augur Fathom Of Night Boss Guide

by admin June 5, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Augur boss fight is more like a raid out of an MMO than one of Elden Ring’s usual boss fights. Augur doesn’t do much, but it does command almost complete control of the battlefield. Good placement, smart timing of your ultimate skills, and the right combinations of the best classes are more important in this battle than any other.

Our Elden Ring Nightreign Augur guide breaks down Augur’s attacks, how to counter them, the creature’s weaknesses, and the best party combinations for taking it down.

Augur attacks and counters

These egg-like jellyfish follow you and explode.

The Augur uses just three attack types with a few variations, though they often string these moves together in a way that’s difficult to safely avoid. Augur behaves more aggressively during its second phase. It uses wave attacks more frequently, spawns jellyfish almost constantly, and creates an exploding egg that can wipe out the party if you don’t deal with it quickly. It also moves more quickly, though that’s only a problem for melee characters.

Jellyfish

  • Augur produces a cluster of jellyfish-like blobs that follow you around and explode after a few seconds
  • Stay on the move, and dodge away when the blobs start to explode

Tentacle spawn

  • Augur raises tentacles out of the ground across the arena, and these will slam into you if you get too close
  • Dodge forward or sideways to avoid the tentacle slam

Wave attack

  • Augur uses the length of its body to send a wave of water toward you
  • Keep your distance from the boss so you have more time to dodge. When the wave approaches, dodge into it. Dodging backwards puts you in its path, and sideways rolls sometimes still get you caught

Not a healthy situation to be in.

Exploding sleep egg

  • Augur only uses this after its HP drops below the halfway mark. While flying and creating regular jellyfish bubbles, Augur will randomly spawn a larger, shining bubble.
  • Attack it as soon as you can. If it touches the ground, it explodes, dealing damage and causing sleep buildup

Spinning wave attack

  • Augur dives forward and rotates its body, sending a larger wave of damaging water toward you
  • Same as with the regular wave attack

Sleep wave

  • Augur stops flying and remains in one place, building sleep energy across the entire arena. If it continues uninterrupted, your sleep meter maxes out, you take damage, and you remain immobilized for several seconds while Augur follows up with wave attacks
  • When Augur stops moving, rush toward it and attack in unison. Use ultimate arts if they’re available

How to counter sleep in Augur boss fight

Here’s the fun thing about sleep in Nightreign, and by “fun” I mean “potentially ruinous.” You can’t counter sleep. Or if you can, the means elude us. The only way to counter Augur’s wave of sleep is to rush them and attack hard and fast enough to interrupt them before the party falls asleep and takes damage.

Even close-range magic struggles to hit its mark in this fight.

How to beat Augur as a melee character

You kinda don’t beat Augur as a melee character, or not easily at least. You’ll have to target Augur’s tentacles to deal minor damage and wait for the brief window after Augur’s wave attacks to deal damage. This is definitely a fight for ranged attackers or weapons, unless you have a lot of patience.

Augur weaknesses

Clear out tentacles in your immediate area to damage Augur and keep yourself safe.

Augur is weak to lightning, as the boss info panel says before you set out on an expedition, and that seems to be its only noteworthy weakness. The beast may be vulnerable to other status ailments, though since most of your damage is almost always going to come from ranged attacks–which usually don’t have bleed or other ailment-causing effects associated with them–it’s difficult to tell. Your best bet is to just use your most powerful weapon and land as many hits as possible, regardless of affinity.

Best team combinations for Augur

Augur almost never moves within melee fighting range, which makes this battle a struggle for Wylders, Guardians, Raiders, and Executors. These classes can still be useful for quickly stopping Augur’s sleep wave attack, and they can cause small amounts of damage by defeating tentacles. However, this is really a battle for ranged characters, so ideally, you’d want Ironeyes or a mix of Ironeyes and Recluses.

The Revenant is occasionally useful as well, as her summoned spirits can make short work of Augur’s tentacles. However, unless you’ve built her for magic and have plenty of crystal shards or find her a strong bow, there’s not much else she can offer during this battle.

Please, Elden Ring Nightreign Players, Skip The Cutscenes!

by admin June 4, 2025

Screenshot: FromSoftware / Bandai Namco / Kotaku

I’m nervous. We missed two churches and lost a level in the mines. The Gaping Jaw Nightlord is weak to poison but no poison weapons spawned on the map. I spent my final runes on hitting level 12. We’re cooked. Oh my god why are we watching the final cutscene before the boss encounter AGAIN.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

Not skipping these is the equivalent of icing the Nightfarer. Some Elden Ring Nightreign players might like the chill pre-scripted break before the reckoning but I can’t stand it. I’ve seen these generic cinematics play out dozens of times now. Some players have gone 10, 20, even 30 expeditions before their first Nightlord victory. That is nearly 10 minutes—10 minutes!—that could be spent doing literally anything else.

Look at this background! It’s gorgeous. Top marks to FromSoftware’s artists. I never need to see it again.

Screenshot: FromSoftware / Bandai Namco / Kotaku

Look, I get it. Nightreign is intense. There’s a ton of esoteric information to fill your brain with, including loads of secret details, items, and mechanics the game never bothers to explain. It’s hard to remember to skip the beginning and ending intros. After 40 minutes of tense dodging, parrying, and cooldown management, it’s nice to take a moment, catch your breath, and watch Nightreign play itself. But if your teammates are spamming the skip button and you are off in lala land or scrolling the TikTok memes your buddy sent you days ago like that one about how guys only want one thing and it’s to hear the podracing engines as they whiz by sandy ridges on Tatooine, then you might be in the wrong matchmaking queue.

FromSoftware games are full of tests. Hardcore fans pride themselves on rising to the challenge when others would just give up. Debate after debate recirculates about what might be lost if Elden Ring and other Soulsborne games had difficulty sliders. Well, now I’m asking what’s gained by even giving players the option not to skip the Nightreign cutscenes? How many more loading screens must be delayed to pamper those unwilling to keep racing through the game even when the timed blue circle of death can no longer hurt you.

Players were worried that Nightreign would be a mess without voice chat. That playing with randos would lead to constant confusion and frustration. To my delightful surprise this has not been the case. Most players get the assignment. And those who don’t should be helped along by their more seasoned companions. Which is what I’m doing now. Please, for the love of the Erdtree, press the start button. Skip the cutscene. Let me rush to my downfall rather than being forced to contemplate its inevitability for an extra 15 seconds.
