Elden Ring Nightreign does actually have a Relic limit, and it won’t let you play until you clear your inventory

by admin June 23, 2025

One of the most interesting features of Elden Ring Nightreign is the ability to modify your character over the course of several runs. That’s something FromSoftware borrowed from other roguelites, and it’s represented in game through Relics.

Relics are bundles of buffs that you attach to your characters to boost their latent abilities, proficiency with certain weapons/spells and more. They offer all kinds of useful bonuses that, when picked correctly, can really complement your chosen class.

That does create a bit of a problem, however.

Because of the random nature of Relics, Nightreign players are incentivised to keep a storage of them until they need them. For instance, if you never use bows and arrows, and you find a Relic with a really strong bonus to archery, you’re more likely to save it until the moment you try Ironeye, or when you feel like doing a bow-only run.

That, of course, causes players’ storage chests to be cluttered with plenty of Relics waiting to be equipped. Some of them may even be so old that the player has likely received much better versions hours ago without realising.

Nightreign does offer an option to sell off your old Relics for in-game currency, but you get so little of it that most players don’t bother. Until now, when Reddit user Scufozzover1 discovered that the game does, indeed, have a limit to the number of Relics you can hoard.

You can’t play if you have too many relics
byu/Scufozzover1 inNightreign

In fact, as you can see in their Reddit post, having a full inventory of Relics means you won’t be able to go on Expeditions. Scufozzover1 posted the error message the game throws out, which is not something many players have seen.

Of course, the game recommends using the Relic Rite feature to get rid of the ones you don’t need, which is really something you should be doing regularly as you continue playing and acquiring more powerful Relics.

The reason this took a while to be uncovered is that Nightreign doesn’t actually show an inventory limit for Relics, so players had no idea how many they can actually store. Scufozzover1 says it’s close to 1,000, which is a massive number.

If you’re not Relic hoarding, you probably know better, which means you’re going to appreciate our Elden Ring Nightreign guide. We recently updated it with Remembrance (character quests) walkthroughs for the Executor Remembrance quest, and Duchess Remembrance quest.

And, in case you missed it, FromSoftware recently introduced the first of several harder versions of the game’s Nightlords. The so called Everdark Sovereign bosses don’t just have more health and deal higher damage, they also use new moves against you.

Elden Ring Nightreign modders are already going ham with custom skins, including Optimus Prime, Stellar Blade’s Eve, and my #1 most-wanted outfit from Dark Souls

by admin June 23, 2025

User Orange on YouTube caught my eye with a 12-minute showcase of some of the most impressive modded skins players have cranked out for Elden Ring Nightreign, which include characters from other franchises, as well as yet more Dark Souls throwbacks.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, they’re effectively inaccessible. All the skin replacement mods I’ve seen are dependent on a tool called the UXM Selective Unpacker, and UXM’s page has been set to hidden with the following message: “The mod has (possible) permission issues that the author is working to address.”

But we can still admire the work modder KRDCD has put out, even if we can’t use them. The real attention grabber is Nightreign Custom Model Replacers. This is the meme one: Eve from Stellar Blade, Optimus Prime, Yorha Unit 2B, all the stars are here. The only notable omission is CJ from San Andreas, but surely he is an inevitability.

Dark Souls Armor Sets is more my speed, importing even more Dark Souls models into Nightreign, similar to the skins we already got in the game. It even includes my personal most-wanted candidate for a future DLC skin: Sir Alonne from Dark Souls 2 as Executor.

This masked samurai is basically proto-Executor anyway, and I was honestly shocked he didn’t make it into the base game already. I particularly appreciate how KRDCD’s skin version uses Alonne’s comically long-hilted nagamaki (bring this design back, FromSoft!), the Bewitched Alonne Sword, in place of Executor’s usual cursed blade.

Once UXM is back up and these mods can be installed again, you’ll want to use them with Yui’s Seamless Co-op in order to avoid the Easy Anticheat Eye of Sauron—Yui’s mod has users connect to unofficial servers, opening up the door for consequence-free modding.

Elden Ring Nightreign update brings new challenges and a welcome live service twist

by admin June 21, 2025

A new update for Elden Ring Nightreign has been shadow dropped, bringing stronger Nightlords to defeat on a weekly basis.

These limited-time versions of bosses are known as the Everdark Sovereigns and will have new moves and increased power. The first to appear will be an enhanced Adel, Baron of the Night (Gaping Jaw) for this week, to be followed by the Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight.

The remaining Nightlords will be added at a later date. At the end of each week the “Sovereign will disappear from the available Expeditions… for now”.

Elden Ring Nightreign Review – An Authentic Souls ExperienceWatch on YouTube

Note that these Everdark Sovereigns will only be available once the original form of that Nightlord has been defeated.

What’s more, defeating the Everdark Sovereigns rewards players with Sovereign Sigils. These are unique tokens that can be exchanged for special Relics and items. Additional Sigils will be rewarded the first time an Everdark Sovereign is defeated.

“This is only the beginning of the Everdark Sovereign cycle,” read the update notes. “As the power of the Night ebbs and wanes, the Sovereigns will soon return to the abyss they came from.”

At the start of the month, FromSoftware stated that “enhanced fights against existing Nightlords” would be on the way, while a duo mode is coming “at a later date”. Even before this, though, dataminers discovered game files for new phases of each Nightlord encounter, so this update was very much expected.

What wasn’t expected, perhaps, was the weekly cycle of these encounters. It’s a smart live service-esque twist to keep players coming back regularly and exactly what the game needs to extend its longevity.

Once all the Nightlords are defeated, the only reason to return is to complete Remembrances with each character. This may not be attractive enough for some, so seeing the beginning of regular updates is a welcome addition.

DLC is also on the way, although it’s unknown what this will include. Would a Bloodborne pack of returning bosses be too much to ask?

The Everdark Sovereign version of Adel, Baron of the Night is available from today, 19th June until 26th June at 1:59am UK time.

Elden Ring Nightreign is FromSoftware’s online multiplayer spin-off to Elden Ring. It’s “an exhilarating rush and a celebration of the studio’s prior achievements Souls veterans will devour,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Elden Ring Nightreign review.

Elden Ring Nightreign player completes their ‘solo gremlin challenge’, clearing every boss in a row as its squishiest character

by admin June 21, 2025

Someone had to do it: An exceptionally skilled Elden Ring Nightreign player has soloed all eight Nightlords (and the new enhanced boss) as its squishiest character. And if my eyes don’t deceive me, I think they did all of them in a row.

Reddit user PotatoFoSho calls it the “solo gremlin challenge” in reference to the flood of memes that depict the Revenant as a tiny angry doll usually wielding a sword twice her size. She’s one of Nightreign’s weakest characters in terms of survivability and is extremely dependent on finding powerful spells each run. When geared right, however, she can use her massive skeleton summons to distract bosses as she rips them apart.

PotatoFoSho dropped their relic setup for her, which notably includes a ton of stats to increase her mana and spell damage (not health!). They say fellow Revenant players should focus on cleaning out cathedrals for the seals that come with powerful incantation spells and to prioritize evergaol bosses for massive amounts of runes to level up quickly. The Wraith Calling Bell—which players have discovered is surprisingly powerful—is always good to have on you too, they said.

And like any good Revenant player, they recommend stacking up as many Starlight Shards as you can to keep your mana bar topped off since she has no way of restoring FP otherwise. They urge everyone to visit as many Sorcerer’s Rises on the map as they can for them.

I have completed the solo gremlin challenge from r/Nightreign

As someone who just finished their first attempt on the new “Sovereign Everdark” version of the Gaping Maw boss, I’m impressed PotatoFoSho was able to take it out as a spell caster who has to also manage her skeleton minions. The finger gymnastics involved with that while also trying to avoid a rabid dragon and his massive hurricane must be practically Olympian.

I will stick to playing Revenant safely in groups of three so that when I inevitably get annihilated by a boss breathing on me, I will at least have some backup. Hats off to PotatoFoSho though, they’ve definitely earned the title of the Solo Gremlin.

Elden Ring Nightreign update adds tougher boss, the Everdark Sovereign

by admin June 20, 2025

A new update for Elden Ring Nightreign rolled out on Thursday, adding an extra layer of challenge. The first of the game’s Everdark Sovereigns, stronger and more challenging versions of existing Nightlord bosses, is here, letting players test themselves against a familiar foe — but only for a limited time.

Players can now face the Everdark Sovereign version of Adel, Baron of the Night (aka “Gaping Jaw”) in Elden Ring Nightreign. Defeating that extra spicy Nightlord will reward players with a new item: Sovereign Sigils. These new tokens can be cashed in for special Relics “and other items,” publisher Bandai Namco says. Players’ first win against an Everdark Sovereign Nightlord will earn them multiple Sovereign Sigils, though it sounds like repeat battles will deal out fewer.

If you want to face Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw, you’ll need to have already defeated the base version of Gaping Jaw. So hurry up if you haven’t; the first Everdark Sovereign encounter will only be available through June 25, at 5:59 p.m PDT/8:59 p.m. EDT.

Here’s one big catch, though: Everdark Sovereigns are available for Nightreign’s online mode only.

Coming to the Everdark Sovereign rotation in the next few weeks are harder versions of Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight. Amped-up versions of the other existing bosses will be added at a later date, Bandai Namco says.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If you need some help getting started, check out Polygon’s guides for Elden Ring Nightreign.

Elden Ring Nightreign now has even tougher Nightlord bosses, and a new NPC to serve those who take on the challenge

by admin June 19, 2025

A little while ago, FromSoftware responded to the generally positive reception of Elden Ring Nightreign following the game’s launch, promising an official duos mode, as well as something the developer referred to as “enhanced fights against existing Nightlords.”

Duo Expeditions have yet to arrive, but we now know exactly what these enhanced Nightlord fights are, because the first one has arrived suddenly in the game.

It is particularly amusing to log off for the day after reporting on the latest Nightreign patch – which was mainly an incremental update – only for the real news to drop hours afterwards, and without even an official announcement to accompany it.

Late yesterday, players discovered that the first enhanced boss has arrived. In a blog post, FromSoft later explained that these are called Everdark Sovereigns, and they’re meant to be much more challenging versions of each Nightlord.

A new Everdark Sovereign will rotate each week, but only those who defeated the original version of that Nightlord can take it on. A Sovereign of Gaping Jaws (Adel) is currently live in the game, to be replaced with Sentient Pest next week, and Darkdrift Knight the week after.

The developer is working on Sovereign versions of other Nightlords – Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast and Fissure in the Fog, which will arrive in due course. As for Sovereign Gaping Jaws (Adel), it will be available until Thursday, June 25.

Who’s ready to fight an even more challenging versions of this guy? | Image credit: FromSoftware | VG 24/7

That’s not all, there’s now also a new NPC that serves a couple of key functions. Defeating Sovereign Nightlords will reward you with Sovereign Sigils, which said NPC will take in exchange for special Relics and other useful items. You even get bonus Sovereign Sigils the first time you beat each boss.

That NPC also lets you change Nightreign’s Shifting Earth / Map Events on demand. This requires Sovereign Sigils, too, but it saves you from having to defeat three Nightlords to trigger the next event

There’s likely more that players will discover as they spend a bit more time fighting these ultra-challenging versions of the game’s Nightlords. If you still haven’t beaten them all, we recently put together a weaknesses guide for all of Nightreign’s Nightlords because it really helps to go in prepared.

For all your other questions, a quick glance at our Elden Ring Nightreign guide will always set you on the right path.

Elden Ring Nightreign Is Lying To You About Reviving Teammates

Elden Ring Nightreign Is Lying To You About Reviving Teammates

by admin June 18, 2025

There are some fundamental rules to surviving in Elden Ring Nightreign. Things like “always hit the small camp first to get level 2″ and “never fight the Bell Bearing Hunter boss beneath the castle.” A third is “don’t bother trying to revive someone with three bars unless you have your ult.” But time and time again, players try to do that anyway. Now we finally have the math to prove why that’s such a dumb idea.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

YouTuber Zullie the Witch, always at the forefront of FromSoftology, laid out how resurrecting fallen allies actually works in Nightreign in a recent video (via PC Gamer). While the visual icon over a fallen party member’s body shows a trisected circle with one segment filled for each time they’ve been downed, it turns out the actual number of hits it takes to bring them back to their feet scales dramatically with each full bar. (Yes, you revive your teammates by doing damage to them.)

Anyone who’s spent a few hours with the multiplayer roguelike intrinsically knows this, but having the math clearly laid out should help discourage anyone from trying to be a hero and getting cooked by a Nightlord in the process:

As Zullie the Witch explains, attacks done in an effort to revive a teammate are logged completely differently than normal damage against enemies. Each weapon type does a certain base amount of damage—starting at 10 for daggers and torches and peaking at 25 for ballistas—and it takes 40 damage points to fill up the first revive bar. Simple enough, a flurry of quick stabs with a dagger will do it. But the second and third bars are where things get deceivingly devilish. At two bars, the damage required per bar is 45 for a total of 90, and at three bars its 80 each, for a whopping total of 240 damage.

That would be tough enough on its own, but the extra tricky part comes from how fast the bars refill in-between hits. At one bar, the meter refills at just two damage per second. At two bars, meanwhile, the refill happens at nine damage per second, while at three bars, they’re refilling at 40 points per second. That’s why it’s essentially impossible to revive other teammates without an ultimate cooldown ready when you’re the last one standing. Turning your attention away for even a second to dodge an incoming attack will see almost all of your progress lost.

So why do many players insist on trying to revive thrice-downed teammates anyway? Psychologically, the fact that our minds are trained by the UI to think linearly while the game is scaling exponentially is no doubt part of it. Another is that no one wants to be the reason their team failed, getting your ass beat while strangers watch powerless to help. Third, it’s kind of just terrifying to go up against Nightreign’s tougher bosses with no backup.

Unless you’re used to playing solo, the game has a knack for making you think you’re better than you are because of how easy it is to whale on enemies while they’re trading off aggro against two other players. Once the odds are evened, the truth has nowhere to hide. As Zullie the Witch has shown, though, your best bet is to just dig in, block, dodge, and take pot shots until your ultimate art is ready.

Become John Nightreign with a 1:1 5KG Wylder helmet which Bandai Namco is currently selling for $190

by admin June 18, 2025

Bandai Namco has a long history of offering up sick and slightly strange merch for Elden Ring, or any FromSoftware game for that matter. There’s been a luxury streetwear collab for the low low price of $1,700, a Messmer the Impaler sukajan jacket, and a scale replica of Malenia’s blade arm. But I think this may be the best thing yet.

In a celebration of Elden Ring Nightreign, Bandai Namco is selling a 1:1 replica of Wylder’s helmet for $189.99/ £159.99, “a remnant of his nomadic life as a swordsman before the chaos.” There’s a limited number in stock, so after all 9,999 units are sold that’ll be it, no more Wylder helmet.

Alongside this 40x36x22 cm helmet, you’ll get a numbered stand which weighs 5kg in total, enough for a decent workout, and a certificate of authenticity. But more importantly, you’ll finally be able to transform into the John Nightreign adding a new layer of weird specificity to all your runs. I certainly feel like the helmet would help me channel the strength to beat all the Nightlords, but that’s more of a mental placebo than anything else.

Related articles

Wylder is the poster boy for Nightreign. He may be the “default” character but that doesn’t mean his cause and backstory are bland. “In the struggle to defeat the Nightlords, Wylder has been a relentless hunter,” an official blog post says. “He stalked the traces of Night across the diminishing plains, drawn to the bastion of the Roundtable Hold by fate and force of will, and pledged his life to the cause of the Nightfarers. Now you can feel what it’s like to join his quest.”

Spoilers ahead

It’s hard to pick favourites in Nightreign, all the characters are so good, but Wylder is up there as one of the best in terms of character development in my books, especially since I main Duchess. His Rememberance quest ultimately leads him to the city of Noklateo to kill the Mimic Troll and acquire the Silver Tear. He will then use this to become the Nightlord. Not because he’s evil, or wants the power to slice the sky open like butter, but because he’s actually brother to Duchess. Once the Nightlord is dead, the Nightfarers go back to their homes—except for Duchess who is bound to the roundtable and will disappear with it. So he becomes the big bad to save his sister.

Now does this heartfelt story make the price tag of $190 any easier to deal with? No. But I’m just saying that out of all the Nightfarers, I’d want Wylder’s helmet, oh and his funky zipline while I’m at it.

This is why it takes too damn long to revive a downed Elden Ring Nightreign player with three segments

by admin June 18, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign represents several key firsts for developer FromSoftware. As intriguing as it is to watch the studio, known for its single-player games, develop a multiplayer-only title that borrows from roguelikes and battle royale games, one has to stop and consider how the team attempted to solve certain problems.

One of the most interesting aspects of Nightreign’s gameplay is the revive mechanic, a feature that does not exist in any recent title from the studio, but one that is crucial to the co-op game’s core design.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Manage cookie settings

The way this works in Nightreign is that, when a player’s HP reaches zero, they enter a down-but-not-out state. That’s pretty standard for multiplayer games, but how you actually revive a downed player is what sets FromSoftware’s latest apart.

In order to get a teammate back up, you need to attack them! How long you have to do that for depends on how many segments their DBNO bar has, which means you could be standing there swinging at them for a while before they’re back up.

You won’t be surprised to learn that, behind the scenes, there’s a formula that controls how this mechanic works. It is, however, quite revealing to look into the raw numbers and calculations the game makes, and how that affects your ability to revive/be revived.

The latest investigation from Souls expert Zullie the Witch – who recently uncovered the true meaning behind all those letter grades assigned to each characters’ attributes – have turned their gaze to Nightreign’s controversial revive mechanic to try and see how it actually works.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Manage cookie settings

As explained in the video above, once a player enters the DBNO state, a 15-second timer starts. If you played – or watched – any Nightreign, you’ll know that the more times you die, the harder it becomes for teammates to be able to revive you.

The video reveals that the first down comes with revive value of 40, represented by one full bar. What you may not realise, however, is that each subsequent down – and thus, a filled bar – increases that value exponentially. The second time you fall, your bar will have two segments, at 45 each, for a total of 90. The third time fills all three bars, except each now has a value of 80, making the total 240 – nearly twice as much as the first two combined.

What makes that process even more frustrating is that you must continue attacking the downed player in order to maintain momentum and deplete all of their bars. If you stop for exactly 3.5 seconds, the bars will start refiling again. Zullie also discovered that the speed at which bars fill back up increases the more bars (more downs) a player has, starting at 2HP per second and going up to 40.

Commit it to memory. | Image credit: Zullie the Witch

You can, of course, reverse these harsh penalties by staying alive long enough between revives – though you may not always have the chance, depending on how deep into an Expedition you are. The death penalties, according to the video, decrease by just one for every three minutes you’re alive. Alternatively, resting at Site of Grace will reset the whole thing to its default values.

As for whether your weapon or damage type affect the revive speed, the answer is a little complicated. Yes, more damaging weapons will technically make it faster to revive downed teammates, but buffs don’t affect a weapon’s revive damage.

There’s more in the video; it’s definitely worth watching. Among other things, it also explores how spells, and their varying attack chains, could have some bearing on their revive speeds.

I didn’t realize how much Elden Ring Nightreign upgraded its Dark Souls skins until I saw them side-by-side with the originals

by admin June 15, 2025

FromSoft dataminer and YouTuber BonfireVN has uploaded a new video comparing Elden Ring Nightreign’s Dark Souls throwback skins to their original models, and I was surprised at how much they’ve actually been touched up since their original appearances.

I like to think I’m a tough, serious guy who’s not easily manipulated when a piece of intellectual property goes “Hey, remember this other intellectual property?” But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t squeal like a school girl when I saw the reprised Dark Souls bosses in Nightreign, or the Dark Souls skins you unlock by beating the game’s final boss.

Nightreign’s Dark Souls Skins vs. Original Armor Sets – YouTube

Watch On

I think I just assumed that all of these models were just straight ports of their original or Dark Souls iterations, but BonfireVN’s side-by-side shows that a lot of texture and fine modeling detail has been tweaked to make them better fit Elden Ring’s more advanced visuals.

Related articles

My personal favorite reprise skin, the Llewellyn/Drang armor for Ironeye from Dark Souls 2 and 3, is a great example: Its fur collar has gotten a big structural rework, while its texture detail is a generational improvement on the Dark Souls 3 iteration.

The Llewellyn set also benefits from perhaps the biggest and most noticeable upgrade to any of the Dark Souls skins: An actual matching helmet. The OG versions left Fashion Souls-conscious players scrambling to find a matching hat, while Ironeye gets a sick helmet/hood combo I seriously wish had been in the original games.

The rest of the skins have similarly subtle, tasteful modernizations, and this all just has me thinking about what’s next. First, the inevitable future BonfireVN video(s) comparing the returning Dark Souls bosses to their originals, and second, new skins that will hopefully come with Nightreign’s unconfirmed DLC. My big wishlist item? A Sir Alonne outfit for Executor—Dark Souls 2’s DLC samurai boss is a series favorite for me, and he perfectly fits the character.
