Marvel Rivals publishers reveal Blood Message, a Naughty Dog-style singleplayer action game set in Tang era China

by admin June 21, 2025

Blood Message is a new singleplayer third-person action game from NetEase, publishers of Marvel Rivals and Naraka: Bladepoint. It follows the journey of a “nameless messenger” and his son across Tang dynasty China, and is laced with the “customs, culture, and rich history of the era”. Amongst other sights and sounds, you will join an uprising in Shazhou, Dunhuang and tread the legendary Silk Road trade routes as you “etch a final tale of loyalty” into the helpless, screaming face of Unreal Engine 5.

I know absolutely nothing about any of these historical and cultural precedents, so I will frame things in terms of the mechanics and skits I recognise from opulent manly bonkfests like God Of War. You will: shimmy through narrow gaps, presumably so that the next area has time to load! Lift a huge sliding door so that your AI-controlled partner can scamper under it, bookending your progress! Mash somebody’s mug into the woodwork while performing an environmental finisher! Topple over and slide uncontrollably through collapsing scenery! Remorselessly QTE a cartwheel while trapped beneath the speeding vehicle! There, now – between those two paragraphs, you don’t even need to watch the following trailer.

Watch on YouTube

It’s end-of-day Friday and I am probably being too pissy. Yes, this appears to be another vibrantly violent canyon of exploding or murdersome photoreal furniture, but there is a lot of (romanticised?) history here I wouldn’t mind encountering up close.

I just hope it manages to have a sense of humour about itself, somewhere. NetEase don’t give that impression in their announcement release. “How can countless ordinary people—smaller than dust—leave a mark on history?” it brays. “The Blood Message development team offers this answer: The remembrance and praise of future generations become their eternal monument.” Nice to hear, because the monuments in the trailer don’t seem very eternal: it’s like the masonry is mortared with anti-matter.

Lead producer and NetEase executive vice president Zhipeng Hu adds that this is the “first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games”. They are certainly making no bones of the genre markers they’re trying to hit with that video. There’s no release date yet. Learn more on the official site (which, be warned, is hella animation-heavy and may devour your mobile data allowance in one fell swoop).

The Nintendo Switch 2 Game Chat feature will transcribe naughty words

by admin June 6, 2025

The Game Chat feature on the Nintendo Switch 2 will transcribe anything you say, including expletives.

Game Chat, a wonderful accessibility feature that offers text-to-speech functionality as well as live captions, is available to all users. Paired with the built-in microphone, it allows any user to communicate easily during online play.

Bluesky user David Howe showcases the feature being used naughtily. In the screenshot he posted, user moNo.lithfiji writes: “say some fuck shit”, followed by “yo, it says fuck” to their peers. Switch 2 owner Poopshtump echoes this surprise, responding: “Oh shit, it says fuck”.

CONFIRMED: you can say fuck in game chat speech-to-text

Up to 12 players can join the same voice chat, opening up a world of possibilities for you and your crass friends. Game Chat is also free until the 31st March 2026, so you’ve got almost a year to swear as much as you want and see it transcribed on your Nintendo Switch 2. Bet the Switch 2 Welcome Tour doesn’t teach you about that, huh?

It should be emphasised that regardless of any profanity, the Game Chat feature is still a major boon for the console, due to its ability to allow those unable to use the microphone for any reason to type out messages on a virtual keyboard, or alternatively allow those who’d struggle with said keyboard to send messages without much trouble.

If you fancy seeing what the Switch 2 can do, other than write up swear words, check out Digital Foundry’s look at the Batman: Arkham Knight Switch 2 experience. It turns out playing that backwards compatible title fixes one of the worst ports on the original Switch!

Naughty Dog's New IP Intergalactic Has The "Deepest" Gameplay The Studio Has Ever Done

Naughty Dog’s New IP Intergalactic Has The “Deepest” Gameplay The Studio Has Ever Done

by admin May 25, 2025

Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann has further discussed the company’s upcoming new IP, Intergalatic: The Heretic Prophet, saying it offers the “deepest” gameplay for any game the studio has made so far. Druckmann also briefly discussed the backlash from some people to the game’s unveiling.

Speaking to Last Stand Media (via PC Gamer), Druckmann said he’s “very, very excited” for Intergalactic, adding that “it’s the deepest gameplay we’ve ever done.” It’s not exactly clear what he means by that, but we should find out in time. “I can’t wait to show it off,” Druckmann said.

A scene from Intergalactic.

The reveal trailer for Intergalactic showed main character Jordan A. Mun in a spaceship before she descended down onto a planet to fight a giant robot enemy with a red sword. The trailer cut out just as the action was set to begin, so we can only guess as to what happens next.

Also in the interview, Druckmann reacted to some of the controversy surrounding Intergalactic, and specifically the misogynistic and racist comments directed at Tati Gabrielle, who plays Mun.

“I don’t know if there’s much I could add to that conversation, to be honest,” Druckmann said. “There’s stuff happening with media right now that you just have to ignore for the most part, just stick to your guns, and do what you believe in. And I feel like that’s how I want artists to carry themselves.”

Gabrielle herself said she received “a lot of love” about her playing the lead in Naughty Dog’s new game, but there was also “lot of hate over me being a woman, me being a woman of color, me having my head shaved; all these things…”

She said Druckmann told her to ignore it and have faith that Naughty Dog is “going to make something that we’re proud of.”

Intergalactic, which Druckmann is directing, is in the works now for PS5, but it doesn’t have a release date. It’s not the only game that Naughty Dog is currently building, as it’s also making at least one other single-player game, which Druckmann is also involved with. It’s unknown what this game is, but some are theorizing that it could be The Last of Us 3.

Meanwhile, HBO’s The Last of Us TV series–which Druckmann is involved with–wraps up its second season on Sunday, May 25. A third season will follow, and a fourth may close the show out.

Naughty Dog has another new game in the works

by admin May 20, 2025

Appearing on the Press X to Continue podcast, Druckmann said, “There’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m [in] more of a producer role and I get to mentor, and watch this other team, and give feedback and be like the executive in the room. I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next it makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

While Druckmann is credited as Creative Director on both The Last of Us games and Intergalactic, he seems be embracing a more hands-off role with this new project. Having multiple teams develop separate games alongside each other is nothing new for studios as large as Naughty Dog. It was recently working on a The Last of Us multiplayer game before that was cancelled in 2023.

Perhaps Druckmann is overseeing the revival of one of the studio’s dormant franchises — Naughty Dog was known for the Crash Bandicoot and Jax and Dexter series before it pivoted its focus to The Last of Us and Uncharted. Speaking of which… could an Uncharted 5 be on the way?

2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End closed out Nathan Drake’s journey as a swashbuckling treasure hunter, though it kept the door open for more adventures through the introduction of his and Elena Fisher’s daughter, Cassie. Kaitlyn Dever portrayed Cassie in Uncharted 4’s epilogue and currently stars as Abby in season 2 of The Last of Us.

A 2023 PS5 ad ignited speculation the Uncharted series was due to return. It featured live-action clips emulating Sony’s robust first-party lineup, and one Uncharted-like clip showed a young woman holding a torch and exploring a cave in search of some sort of artifact. Job listings at that time sought talent for a separate studio “co-developing an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise” (via VGC), though it’s not confirmed if that “beloved franchise” is Uncharted or something else.

We likely won’t know what Naughty Dog is working on for some time, if it gets formally revealed at all; remember, plenty of games get cancelled before the public even knew they existed.

Naughty Dog working on second game alongside Intergalactic, Neil Druckmann confirms

by admin May 20, 2025

It feels like we’ve only just been introduced to Naughty Dog’s sci-fi action-adventure Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but studio boss Neil Druckmann has now confirmed there’s a second game in development at the studio.

Druckmann shared the news in conversation with the Press X to Continue podcast, explaining that alongside Intergalactic – where’s he’s serving as writer and creative director – “there’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I am more of a producer role.”

“And I get to mentor and watch this other team, and give feedback and be, like, the executive in the room,” he continued. “I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump between one to the next, it makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard multiple games are in development at Naughty Dog; the studio said it had “more than one ambitious, brand-new single player game” in the works back in 2023, when it announced the cancellation of The Last of Us Online. Druckmann’s latest statement is, however, the first confirmation since then that multiple projects are still underway.

As to what this second project might be, Druckmann offered no hints, but it’s possible it’s being helmed by Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director Shaun Escayg – who rejoined Naughty Dog back in 2021 after serving as creative director on Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel Avengers.

Druckmann has, of course, been teasing a third The Last of Us game in recent years, but he seemingly backtracked on that in March, telling fans, “Don’t bet on there being more.” For now, his main focus appears to be Intergalactic, which is currently expected to arrive in 2027. And while details on the game are currently limited, Druckmann recently named another actor who’s been cast in Intergalactic after their appearance in The Last of Us’ television show.
