Network News

SOFI TAPS BITCOIN LIGHTNING FOR REMITTANCES: SoFi Technologies will soon allow remittance payments on top of the Bitcoin layer-2 Lightning Network through a partnership with Lightspark, aiming to bring real-time international money transfers to its members. SoFi’s remittance product, which is expected to roll out later this year, will allow users to send U.S. dollars through the SoFi app, with recipients receiving local currency deposits abroad, using Lightspark’s Universal Money Address (UMA). Lightspark’s UMA provides access to a global payment rail designed for speed and scale. Transfers will display upfront exchange rates and fees, addressing longstanding pain points in traditional remittance services. The launch follows SoFi’s reentry into crypto, after halting services in 2023 during its transition to a national bank. Earlier this year, it revealed plans to offer international remittances through blockchain and stablecoins and allow users to invest in crypto. — Jamie Crawley Read more.

BITLAYER ENTERS SOLANA WITH YBTC: Bitcoin DeFi project Bitlayer has partnered with Kamino Finance and Orca to bring its bitcoin-backed token, YBTC, to the Solana ecosystem. This integration is intended to combine Bitlayer’s security with Solana’s speed and scalability, aligning with Bitlayer’s goal of expanding the Bitcoin DeFi sector. It will provide bitcoin holders with native BTC exposure and yield opportunities, said Charlie Hu, co-founder of Bitlayer. YBTC, pegged 1:1 with BTC, is central to Bitlayer’s BitVM bridge, which is designed for trust-minimized bitcoin transfers by eliminating centralized intermediaries. The token serves as a direct representation of users’ locked BTC within the Bitlayer ecosystem, enabling seamless interoperability between Bitcoin and decentralized finance applications. By holding YBTC, Solana users can maximize yields through Kamino’s institutional-grade earn vaults, which provide auto-compounding and optimized BTC-denominated returns, helping assets grow effortlessly. — Omkar Godbole Read more.

VALANTIS ACQUIRES stHYPE: Valantis, a decentralized exchange (DEX) protocol, has acquired Staked Hype (stHYPE), the second-largest liquid staking token (LST) on Hyperliquid. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. stHYPE, which launched as the first LST on HyperEVM, currently holds about $180 million in total value locked (TVL), according to the stHYPE website. Following the deal, stHYPE’s operations, development, and scaling will be managed by Valantis Labs. Addison Spiegel, founder of Thunderhead, the team behind stHYPE, will serve as an advisor to Valantis. Liquid staking has become a central pillar within Hyperliquid’s ecosystem. According to DeFiLlama, liquid staking accounts for more than half of Hyperliquid L1’s $2.26 billion in DeFi TVL. The acquisition builds on Valantis’ earlier launch of LST-specific DEX pools for both stHYPE and hHYPE, which together have attracted nearly $70 million in TVL and processed more than $500 million in trading volume. — Oliver Knight Read more.

HYPERBEAT GETS $5.2M IN SEED: Hyperbeat, a protocol powering yield infrastructure on the Hyperliquid decentralized exchange, has closed a $5.2 million oversubscribed seed round co-led by ether.fi Ventures and Electric Capital. The raise will be used to build out their yield infrastructure for traders, protocols, and institutions that are tapped into the Hyperliquid ecosystem. The round also drew investments from Coinbase Ventures, Chapter One, Selini, Maelstrom, Anchorage Digital, and community backers via the HyperCollective. Hyperbeat serves as the native yield layer for Hyperliquid, building permissionless financial infrastructure that allows anyone to earn, stake, and spend directly from their on-chain portfolio. It unlocks yield generated by Hyperliquid’s funding rates—previously accessible only to sophisticated market participants—and packages it into simple, tokenized vaults. The news of the seed raise comes as Hyperliquid’s total value locked surpasses $2.1 billion, and as institutions are starting to develop greater interest in its ecosystem. — Margaux Nijkerk Read more.

In Other News

  • SkyBridge Capital, Anthony Scaramucci’s investment management firm, plans to tokenize $300 million worth of its hedge funds on the Avalanche network. The firm is bringing its Digital Macro Master Fund and Legion Strategies on-chain in partnership with tokenization provider Tokeny and its parent, Apex Group, which manages more than $3.5 trillion in assets, according to the press release shared with CoinDesk. Apex acquired Tokeny earlier this year. The initiative uses the ERC-3643 token standard with operational support from Apex’s Digital 3.0 platform, which handles issuance, administration, and distribution. — Kristzian Sandor Read more.
  • Thumzup Media, which counts Donald Trump Jr. as a large shareholder, said it will acquire Dogehash Technologies, Inc. in an all-stock deal, pivoting from digital marketing into industrial-scale crypto mining. Under the agreement, Dogehash shareholders will receive 30.7 million Thumzup shares, according to a Tuesday release, valuing the transaction at $153.8 million, based on the shares’ closing price. The combined company will rebrand as Dogehash Technologies Holdings, Inc. and list on Nasdaq under the ticker XDOG, pending shareholder approval later this year. The company says it will also use Dogecoin’s DogeOS layer 2 to stake in DeFi products, aiming to boost miner returns beyond standard rewards. — Sam Reynolds Read more.

Regulatory and Policy

  • The crypto industry is mounting a counteroffensive against Wall Street bankers’ bid to rewrite the U.S.’ new stablecoin law, arguing that attempts to roll back core provisions of the GENIUS Act would tilt the field toward traditional banks. In a letter to Senate Banking Committee leaders dated Aug. 19, the Crypto Council for Innovation and the Blockchain Association urged lawmakers to reject proposals from the American Bankers Association, Bank Policy Institute and state banking groups that called for stripping out Section 16(d) of the law and banning yield programs offered by affiliates of stablecoin issuers. Section 16(d) allows subsidiaries of state-chartered institutions to conduct money transmission across state lines in support of stablecoin issuer activities, ensuring holders can redeem their tokens nationwide without needing separate state licenses. Banking groups warned earlier this month that allowing state-chartered, uninsured institutions to issue stablecoins and operate nationwide would amount to regulatory arbitrage, bypassing state licensing regimes. — Sam Reynolds Read More
  • The U.S. Federal Reserve’s newest vice chair who supervises Wall Street banking, Michelle Bowman, made a crypto speech on Tuesday that could have been uttered by one of the industry’s own policy wonks, advocating that banks get behind the digital assets surge and that the Fed give the sector rules that won’t get in crypto’s way. At the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Bowman warned banks that don’t embrace the shift toward crypto “will play a diminished role in the financial system more broadly,” and she further underlined what’s already been an obvious change in crypto sentiment from U.S. banking regulators. “Your industry has already experienced significant frictions with bank regulators applying unclear standards, conflicting guidance, and inconsistent regulatory interpretations,” she said. “We need a clear, strategic regulatory framework that will facilitate the adoption of new technology, recognizing that in some cases, it may be inadequate and inappropriate to apply existing regulatory guidance to address emerging tech.” — Jesse Hamilton Read more.

Nasdaq-Listed Pharma Distributor Launches XRPL-Powered Payment System

by admin August 17, 2025

Wellgistics Health Inc. is deploying an XRP Ledger-based payment system for thousands of pharmacies across the United States, deepening its bet on blockchain as it looks to overhaul healthcare finance.

The Nasdaq-listed distributor (WGRX) has announced that its new platform enables independent pharmacies to pay for drug inventory and move funds instantly, bypassing banking delays and high credit card fees.

Integrated with RxERP, a serialized pharmaceutical e-commerce and enterprise resource planning system, the program promises real-time tracking, lower costs, and direct settlement between pharmacies and distributors. Pharmacies can now enroll in the beta version of the program.

The system is built on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), an open-source blockchain with core development led by Ripple Labs.

With a network of more than 6,500 pharmacies and 200 manufacturers, Wellgistics is one of the first healthcare companies to launch an XRPL payment solution at scale. The firm’s CEO, Brian Norton, said pharmacy owners have embraced the initiative, calling them more forward-thinking on blockchain than many in the industry assume.

The program enables pharmacies to settle invoices over XRPL, though Wellgistics has not disclosed whether participants must hold XRP directly or use fiat-to-XRP conversions for settlement.

The program was designed to meet strict compliance standards, including HIPAA and anti-money laundering requirements. After the pharmacy roll-out, Wellgistics plans to extend the platform to manufacturers and test direct-to-patient programs, allowing medications to be shipped from drugmakers directly to patients under physician oversight.

The initiative builds on a May 8 announcement that Wellgistics intends to use XRP not just for payments but also as a treasury reserve asset. That plan is backed by a $50 million equity line of credit, which management said would support programmable liquidity and on-demand financial infrastructure across its healthcare network.

Founded as Wellgistics LLC in 2016, the company was acquired by Danam Health in September 2024 before being spun off through an initial public offering in February 2025. Today, Wellgistics Health operates as a standalone Nasdaq-listed entity, providing wholesale distribution, prescription routing, and AI-powered hub services to pharmacies nationwide.

Shares have dropped more than 80% since the February debut. They closed Tuesday at $0.62, down 7%, before rising to $0.65 in after-hours trading. The company’s current market cap is around $47 million.

By linking pharmacy payments to the XRP Ledger while preparing to hold XRP on its balance sheet, Wellgistics is aiming to position itself as both a user and financial backer of the blockchain.

Nasdaq-Listed Tech Firm Approves 20% Crypto Allocation as Part of Treasury Strategy

by admin June 26, 2025

Aurora Mobile, a Nasdaq-listed technology firm based in China, has unveiled a new corporate strategy that includes investing a portion of its treasury into cryptocurrency assets.

On Tuesday, the company announced that its board of directors had approved the allocation of up to 20% of its total cash and cash equivalents toward digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Sui, and others.

Treasury Optimization and Strategic Intent

The company emphasized that the crypto investment plan is structured to preserve asset value while exploring additional opportunities for strategic partnerships, market expansion, and ecosystem growth.

Aurora Mobile clarified that the new investment direction will not interfere with its day-to-day operations or long-term growth strategies. The firm also assured shareholders that sufficient liquidity will be maintained for ongoing operational requirements, and that the digital asset investments are a part of a balanced portfolio approach.

According to Aurora’s official press release, this initiative is aimed at enhancing asset diversification by including exposure to cryptocurrencies, which historically exhibit low correlation with traditional markets.

Company Chairman and CEO Weidong Luo noted that the move also reflects Aurora’s intent to keep pace with technological advancements in the financial sector.

Luo stated that this step signifies a commitment to “modernizing our treasury management practices,” positioning the firm at the convergence of emerging finance and digital infrastructure trends.

Founded in 2011, Aurora Mobile specializes in customer engagement and marketing technologies powered by cloud computing and AI. Despite being primarily focused on enterprise software solutions within China, Aurora is increasingly adopting global financial tools as part of its dual-engine growth strategy, which includes market expansion and AI-driven innovation.

Implications for the Broader Crypto and Tech Ecosystem

Aurora joins a growing number of publicly traded firms exploring digital assets as part of their corporate treasury strategies. While companies like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), Gamestop, Metaplanet, and Tesla made headlines with sizable Bitcoin allocations, Aurora’s approach appears more diversified, indicating a broader interest in the overall crypto market.

This strategy could serve as a signal to other mid-cap tech firms in Asia looking to explore asset diversification through blockchain-based instruments.

The timing of Aurora’s move follows the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) decision to roll back controversial accounting guidance (SAB 121), which previously discouraged banks and publicly listed firms from holding crypto assets.

That regulatory shift may have contributed to a more favorable environment for corporate entities to allocate funds into digital assets.

With China maintaining a ban on retail crypto trading while showing openness toward blockchain development and central bank digital currency (CBDC) trials, Aurora’s decision could reflect a measured form of engagement that aligns with domestic policy frameworks while targeting global financial exposure.

Nasdaq-Listed Healthcare Firm Opens Bitcoin Treasury With $20 Million BTC Buy

by admin June 22, 2025

In brief

  • Healthcare firm Prenetics has purchased $20 million worth of BTC for its corporate treasury.
  • The company plans to integrate Bitcoin into its consumer health platforms and operations, and hinted at further expanding its treasury.
  • A Trump-linked crypto advisor will serve as an advisor, the firm announced.

When most healthcare companies discuss digital transformation, they typically mean electronic medical records or telemedicine platforms.

But for Prenetics Global Limited, a publicly-traded health sciences firm, going digital meant something entirely next level: a $20 million Bitcoin treasury strategy that adds its name to a growing list of companies adopting a Bitcoin acquisition strategy.

The Nasdaq-listed genomics and digital health company disclosed Wednesday that it has acquired 187.42 BTC at an average price of $106,712 using Kraken’s custody platform. The purchase represents the beginning of what Prenetics calls a “comprehensive” Bitcoin strategy approved by its board, with plans for substantial future expansion.

In a statement, the firm said the investment forms part of a plan for “the dawn of a new era” in which domains such as genomics, personalized medicine, and digital assets will “will intersect in ways that could revolutionize” how we think about health, wealth, and longevity, Prenetics CEO Danny Yeung said in a statement.

Beyond its treasury strategy, Prenetics plans to explore yield generation through crypto lending and structured products using institutional-grade tools. The company will also accept Bitcoin payments across its consumer health brands, creating an integrated ecosystem from treasury management to customer transactions.

The company recently raised its full-year 2025 revenue guidance to $80-$100 million, projecting profitability by Q4. Its stock (NASDAQ : PRE) surged 23.3% on the day Wednesday trading at $9.26 after its announcement.

Orange-pilled

To guide the initiative, Prenetics recruited former OKEx chief operating officer Andy Cheung to its board. Cheung previously helped oversee billions in daily crypto trading volume at one of the world’s largest exchanges.

Tracy Hoyos-López, chief of staff for strategic initiatives at Kraken, has joined the firm as an advisor, helping to guide Prenetics as it adopts the Bitcoin treasury playbook deployed by firms including Strategy and Metaplanet.

Hoyos-López was one of three people pivotal to making President Donald Trump “orange-pilled” by bringing him to speak at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville last year.

At the conference, Trump promised to establish a “strategic BTC stockpile.” In March, the president signed an executive order to establish a strategic reserve “capitalized with Bitcoin owned by the federal government,” according to a statement from AI and crypto czar David Sacks.

Hoyos-López fiercely advocated for Trump, who at the time faced Kamala Harris for the presidency. “Our industry as a whole will cease to exist if Trump doesn’t win,” Hoyos-López said at the time, per a report from CNBC.

Decrypt reached out to Prenetics for comment on Hoyos-López’ appointment.

Nasdaq-listed Netcapital acquires no-code Web3 gaming platform Mixie

by admin June 9, 2025

Netcapital, a financial technology company listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, has acquired crypto-native protocol Mixie in a deal that has been described as a bridge between traditional and decentralized finance.

Mixie, a no-code Web3 gaming platform, was acquired by Netcapital’s portfolio company, Zelgor, for an undisclosed amount, the company told Cointelegraph on Monday.

A spokesperson said it was the first time a publicly-listed company has acquired a crypto-native protocol specifically to expand the blockchain industry.

Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, Netcapital operates a digital capital markets platform that helps private companies raise capital while giving investors access to private equity opportunities. Its funding platform, Netcapital Funding Portal, is registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The company, which trades under the ticker NCPL, went public in September 2017. The stock is considered a nano-cap with a total market capitalization of roughly $6.8 million, according to Yahoo Finance data.

Netcapital said it was especially drawn to Mixie’s tokenization infrastructure and accelerator model that supports early-stage founders. The acquisition was touted for enhancing “synergies between Mixie’s tokenization capabilities and Netcapital’s browser-based security offering,” the company said.

Crypto M&A activity on the rise

2025 is shaping up to be a busy year for crypto mergers and acquisitions, signaling a broader wave of consolidation as the industry matures.

M&A deals reached another record high in the first quarter, highlighted by crypto exchange Kraken’s $1.5 billion acquisition of NinjaTraders, according to Architect Partners.

The research company counted six transactions valued at $100 million or more in the first quarter.

After a record-breaking 2024, crypto and blockchain M&As spiked again in the first quarter. Source: Architect Partners

M&A activity has ramped up in the second quarter, with Coinbase doling out $2.9 billion to acquire crypto derivatives exchange Deribit, and Ripple paying $1.5 billion for prime brokerage Hidden Road.

The M&A wave was widely expected to continue this year, driven by more favorable regulatory conditions in the United States and the potential for declining financing costs.

EARN’M CEO Dan Novaes told Cointelegraph that consolidation will likely persist, as the industry remains overcrowded and overtokenized.

by admin June 2, 2025

In brief

  • Hong Kong-based Reitar Logtech has said it wants to buy 15,000 BTC.
  • The plan is to create a Bitcoin treasury, the Nasdaq-listed company said.
  • Reitar is the latest publicly-traded firm to announce such plans.

Nasdaq-listed Reitar Logtech is planning to buy $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin, according to a Monday U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The Hong Kong-based (RITR) said it was aiming to buy 15,000 BTC.

“The BTC Program will pave the way for the company to engage in logistics real estate projects which may involve digital assets in the future by establishing a reserve of digital asset through this initiative and setting up the necessary internal organization and technical infrastructure for managing such digital assets,” the company said in the 6-K SEC document.

It added that the “potential initiative” will allow it to “expand into new markets.” Reitar Logtech did not immediately respond to Decrypt‘s questions.

Reitar Logtech, which offers a range of services for logistics operators and logistic property invesstors,  joins a growing list of companies aiming to provide shareholders with exposure to Bitcoin. They have been following the path of Strategy—formerly MicroStrategy—which pivoted from software development in 2020 to become the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.

Strategy stock has soared more than 2,800% over this period. The company on Monday announced its latest Bitcoin buy of about 705 Bitcoin worth roughly $75 billion based on current price. It now holds approximately 581,000 BTC worth $60.4 billion.

Other firms on the Nasdaq are also acquiringBitcoin, with healthcare company Cosmos Health (COSM), auto firm Worksport (WKSP), and energy storage company KULR Technology Group (KULR) all recently announcing crypto buys.

And in April, crypto and financial services giants Tether, Bitfinex, Cantor Fitzgerald, and SoftBank Group announced that they would create Twenty One, a publicly traded Bitcoin treasury company with plans to acquire 42,000 BTC—or about $4.5 billion worth.

Bitcoin was recently trading at about $104,500, down slightly over the past 24 hours according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. It is up nearly 11% year-to-date and hit a new all-time high of $111,814 in May amid a wider upturn in crypto markets.
