‘Uptober’ Is Myth for XRP, Price History Warns

by admin September 28, 2025

Every October, the crypto community repeats the same slogan: “Uptober.” For Bitcoin, at least, it sometimes finds support in the charts. For XRP, however, the story is far more complicated. Examining more than a decade of price history, the numbers don’t justify optimism.

Monthly data shows that October has produced some of XRP’s most dramatic price fluctuations. In 2013, for example, the token soared by more than 94%. In 2014, it jumped by 130%. In 2015, there was a milder 4.7% gain, and in 2017, there was only a 1.49% increase, as per CryptoRank.

On the other hand, years like 2018 and 2021 delivered double-digit losses. The most explosive October was in 2020, when XRP spiked by almost 179% in just four weeks. However, these isolated events create a distorted picture.

Source: CryptoRank

Strip away the extremes, and the median October return is a loss of 1.79%. The average is even worse: -4.58%. This suggests that history shows October is more likely to disappoint XRP holders than reward them, despite the occasional blockbuster year that fuels the “Uptober” myth.

Quarterly data reinforces this warning

While Q4 has historically been the strongest period for XRP, with an average gain of nearly 88%, the median shows a loss of 4.32%. This again highlights that the results are heavily distorted by a few extraordinary runs rather than consistent seasonal strength.

The pattern is clear — “Uptober” is not a reliable trading strategy for XRP. Past years prove that, while outsized rallies are possible, the typical outcome is modest or negative.

Investors expecting green candles every October are relying on folklore, not probability. While history doesn’t eliminate the possibility of another upside surprise, it does emphasize the risk of treating a single month as a guarantee.

Love and Deepspace gets hotter than ever before with Zayne’s third Myth, which sees him transformed into a semi-nude desert god

by admin September 24, 2025

The next Love and Deepspace Memory Pair event has been officially unveiled, and it’s for Zayne. The new event, which kicks off tomorrow, September 25, is dubbed Edge of Continuum.

The banner event introduces a new storyline for Zayne, alongside a new 5-Star Memory Pair. It wouldn’t be a new banner, of course, without some other bits of seasonal activities and new rewards.

Edge of Continuum has some unexpected inspirations, but they’re all taken from popular myths. It features elements from Egyptian, Babylonian, and broader Arabian mythologies. The story goes into the bonds lovers form across realities and how fragile they can be.

The story focus is on another alternate-timeline vision of Zayne’s relationship with the MC, and like most of their encounters, there’s a distinct sense of doom getting in the way of their happily-ever-after. The main reason you’ll probably log in though, of course, is for the Memory Pair. In this, we’re getting Zayne: Diviner’s Hymn and Zayne: Diviner’s Stillness – the limited-time 5-Star pair. You can only get it through the event Wish Pool.

The visuals are drenched in yellow, with golden hour hues. It’s very on theme, given its inspirations. If you do get the Memory Pair, you’ll unlock a new design for Zayne. This one is very much the opposite of his original, cold/white look. Keeping up with the same aesthetic is his new combat scepter, which has crowd-control mechanics in combat with pyramid-themed effects.

Watch on YouTube

To celebrate this golden transformation, you’ll also find a new outfit set for the MC (that you’ll need to buy), and a new stage of Hunter Contest (v11.1). Since this one is about Zayne, you can expect Deepspace Trial Stages where you can tackle some combat challenges with him.

If you log in during the event, you’ll earn some unique rewards. There’s also a Jimmy Choo collaboration event (yes, the shoe designers) with its own cross-over reward. Oh, and there’s a new plushie you can get from the claw machine, too: say hi to Mushie, everyone!

In case you missed it, Papergames and Infold recently announced that the game has been downloaded over 70 million times since its launch. The news was revealed at gamescom last month, where Love and Deepspace won Best Mobile Game.

If you’re new to Love and Deepspace, it helps to understand what banner events are and how they work. If you’re curious about Zayne specifically, we have a full breakdown of his lore and backstory. And, as always, you should make a habit of checking out our updated Love and Deepspace codes before jumping back in.

Chinese McDonald's Black Myth: Wukong collaboration features black burgers and a ridiculous dressing gown with matching headband

Chinese McDonald’s Black Myth: Wukong collaboration features black burgers and a ridiculous dressing gown with matching headband

by admin September 23, 2025

Black Myth: Wukong continues to make a noise in China, this time through a nationwide McDonald’s collaboration designed to coincide with this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival.

On the elaborate and specially designed menu are, according to China Insider and the McDonald’s China website, a huge black double beef “mooncake” (the Mid-Autumn Festival is also sometimes called the Mooncake Festival), a crispy chicken burger “mooncake”, shrimp nuggets, which sound weird, curly fries and themed McFlurries. There’s even a weird black-cased dessert thing, with a gooey yellow and white filling. Apparently this is a sesame lava pie, whatever that is, but to me it looks like a crusted, elongated Cadbury’s Creme Egg.

But better yet! There will also be coinciding merch pop-ups in the biggest Chinese cities where people can buy exclusive Black Myth: Wukong x McDonald’s merch. The most elaborate of these pieces is a dressing gown (it might be a wearable fleece thing – it’s a bit unclear) which is black with ornate Wukong-related design-work and comes with a matching headband, which, admittedly, I rather like. There’s a horrid white dressing gown with McDonald’s logos and burgers on, too.

The collaboration starts today in China, so hurry on over, and runs in thousands of restaurants until 21st October. And I know what you’re thinking: lucky bastards – why do they get black burgers and dressing gowns and not us, in the West? Well we can’t have it because we didn’t give Black Myth: Wukong Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, that’s why. Don’t, Bertie, don’t.

Maybe a better question is why, a year after release, Black Myth: Wukong is still being celebrated in China. Well don’t forget there’s a follow-up game called Black Myth: Zhong Koi in development, which like Wukong, takes another iconic figure from Chinese folklore – the evil spirit-killing deity Zhong Koi – and spins a game around him.

Stablecoins Don’t Drain Bank Deposits, Calls It a ‘Myth’

by admin September 16, 2025

Leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has refuted claims that stablecoins threaten the US banking system by causing “deposit erosion.” It called this idea a myth.

In a blog post on September 16, the exchange dismissed concerns about stablecoins pulling funds from bank deposits as unfounded. Coinbase also cited that recent analysis highlighted that there is no significant connection between stablecoin use and deposit outflows at community banks.

Further, the exchange argued that stablecoins, which are dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies, function primarily as payment tools rather than savings accounts. “Stablecoins don’t threaten lending—they offer a competitive alternative to banks’ $187 billion annual swipe-fee windfall,” it stated, emphasizing that users choosing stablecoins for international payments are not reallocating savings but opting for faster, cheaper transactions.

The exchange also challenged a U.S. Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee report projecting $6 trillion in potential deposit flight against a $2 trillion stablecoin market by 2028, calling the figures inconsistent. Coinbase’s accompanying paper noted that most stablecoin activity, over $1 trillion of $2 trillion in 2024 transactions, occurs outside the U.S., particularly in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, where financial infrastructure is weaker.

Coinbase: Stablecoins boost USD, coexist with banks

Coinbase argued that this international use strengthens the U.S. dollar’s global dominance rather than undermining domestic banks. It further highlighted positive correlations between bank stock performance and crypto firms like itself and Circle after the passage of the GENIUS Act, suggesting banks and stablecoins can coexist.

The exchange’s stance aligns with comments from Bitwise’s Investment Chief Matt Hougan, who last week criticized U.S. banks in an X post for offering low deposit yields while resisting stablecoin competition instead of improving services. The debate follows August 2025 calls from U.S. banking groups, led by the Bank Policy Institute, urging Congress to address a perceived loophole in the GENIUS Act that could allow stablecoin issuers to indirectly offer yields through crypto exchanges.

Tom Lee Destroys Ethereum Speed Myth, Wall Street Wants 100% Uptime

by admin August 29, 2025

Tom Lee, the cofounder of Fundstrat, has debunked an assumption that has floated around in the cryptocurrency space about Ethereum (ETH). Lee claims that institutional investors on Wall Street are more concerned about performance and reliability than speed.

Unusual advocacy for Ethereum

In an interview, Lee maintained that Ethereum’s uptime and decentralization make it attractive to large-scale finance. Hence, given that institutions care more about reliability and security than they do about raw speed, Ethereum has an edge among rival blockchains.

The Fundstrat cofounder explained that even if Ethereum is slower on its base layer, this can be overcome with scaling solutions like layer-2 networks. This will compensate for the cost and speed issues.

EXCLUSIVE – “WALL STREET DOESN’T CARE ABOUT SPEED – THEY WANT ETH”@fundstrat:

“The crypto community abandoned Ethereum… they thought faster was better – that’s why Solana and Sui took off.

But Wall Street wants 100% uptime, not speed – they can build on layer twos.

ETH’s… https://t.co/SZmmg1lSum pic.twitter.com/5TAD5KQcCC

— Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) August 29, 2025

Lee asserts that big institutional players are not prioritizing blockchain networks on the basis of speed. He acknowledged that Solana and Sui might process transactions faster than Ethereum, but “Wall Street doesn’t care about speed, they want ETH.”

He insisted that these institutional players are more concerned about Ethereum for its long track record, strong developer ecosystem and reliability. Lee believes that it was retail traders who made Solana and Sui relevant as they shifted attention to these chains due to lower fees and high throughput.

Ethereum price outlook shows signs of major cycle

Tom Lee pointed out that although Ethereum has not posted multiple new all-time highs (ATH) since the 2021 bull market, things are looking different now. The leading altcoin has gained over 14% in the last 30 days and managed to find stability above $4,000 for the greater part of this time period.

However, Ethereum recently hit an ATH of $4,885, as reported by U.Today. Lee maintains that if ETH stays above $4,800, then the market could witness a really big bullish cycle.

As of press time, the Ethereum price was changing hands at $4,353.06, representing a 5.49% decline in the last 24 hours. It previously hit an intraday peak of $4,613.78 before the decline. Volume remains up by 0.07% at $40.48 billion.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui Announced

Black Myth: Zhong Kui Announced

by admin August 21, 2025

Game Science managed a rare feat in 2024 – introducing a new action game to the market to significant commercial and critical success with Black Myth: Wukong. It’s clear the studio isn’t resting on its laurels, as the final game shown at this year’s Opening Night Live show aims to continue the story. Black Myth: Zhong Kui is the new entry in the burgeoning franchise.

The debut trailer certainly doesn’t reveal much. We see two down-on-their-luck men who appear to be on the run, but they quiet down as they realize someone is outside who may be chasing them down. The visuals pan over to a figure riding a massive tiger, revealed to be Zhong Kui.

In following up on the trailer, Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley offered up that the game follows the “ghost-catching god who wanders between hell and earth.” The game appears to be early in development (not unexpected given that the last installment only released a year ago), but the game will be a single-player action/RPG rooted in Chinese mythology.

Check out the full trailer below.

Highlights from Gamescom Opening Night Live: Black Myth: Zhong Kui steals the show

by admin August 20, 2025

Gamescom Opening Night Live was once again hosted by Geoff Keighley last night, and GamesIndustry.biz was there in the Confex hall in Cologne to see the whole thing unfold live.

In the build up to the entrance of the big man at 8pm, the 5,000-strong audience was treated to a pre-recorded ‘pre-show’, featuring various game trailers that didn’t quite get past the velvet rope into the main event.

Notably, the only one of these trailers to get an actual cheer from the steadily warming up audience was He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearls of Destruction, a retro 2D brawler from Bitmap Bureau and Limited Run Games.

Coming after the rapturous reception for Bitmap Bureau’s retro-styled Terminator 2D: No Fate, it just goes to show the nostalgia drug remains as potent as ever.

Although nothing like the whooping for He-Man, a few other pre-show trailers gained some smatterings of applause, including Long Gone (funded by Outersloth), Valor Mortis, PVKK, the Chinese single-player action RPG Swords of Legends, and Saber Interactive’s new truck simulator Road Kings, which will no doubt go down well with the Euro Truck Simulator crowd.

Then it was time for Keighley to glide onto the stage in his trademark comfortable brown shoes. “It turns out that E3 didn’t die,” he pronounced, “it just moved right here to Germany.”

Setting aside Keighley’s own role in the murder, it’s difficult to compare the atmosphere of this vast German hall to the fan fervour you might see in days gone by in LA. The German audience seems far more muted and less prone to spontaneous outbursts.

Then again, it does feel like Gamescom has been building some serious momentum over the past few years in the absence of its US rival.

Right off the bat, Keighley revealed new gameplay footage of Hollow Knight: Silksong and proclaimed a demo would be playable at Gamescom, to the elation of the crowd.

The long-awaited game now has nearly five million wish lists on Steam, and the anticipation for it is reaching fever pitch.

Then it was on to a new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which focused on some freaky-deaky, hallucinatory levels, reminiscent of the Scarecrow sequences in Batman: Arkham Asylum. The big headline feature for CoD this year is a two-to-four-player co-op – and it all culminates in a new PvE end game that could be a big draw.

Lord of the Fallen 2 got a surprise unveiling, along with a new anime based on From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice called Sekiro: No Defeat.

But one of the biggest reveals at the show was Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which focuses on Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

TT Games’ head of development Jonathan Smith was wheeled out on stage to enthuse about the new title. “We are so thrilled to be revealing this game,” he said. “This is the definitive, essential Batman story.”

And it certainly seemed to be thrilling the assembled crowd, receiving one of the warmest receptions of the entire night.

Smith explained that it would be the first of the studio’s Lego titles to have different difficulty levels (‘Caped Crusader’ and ‘Dark Knight’ mode), and it appears to be a lot more involved than Lego Batman games of the past, featuring combat styled similarly to the Arkham titles.

More announcements followed. Warhammer Dawn of War IV is on the way in 2026, although developed by King Art Games rather than Relic Entertainment.

Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a crossover with Final Fantasy XIV, Chocobos included. Perhaps it will help to buoy the slump in sales for Wilds over the past few months.

The Fallout cast were ushered on stage to talk about season 2 of the show, which is headed to New Vegas this time around. But perhaps the bigger news is that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is heading to Switch 2 next year, eliciting gasps from the crowd.

Later, in another example of Microsoft’s IP crossing boundaries, it was revealed that Age of Empires IV is coming to PS5. As Rob Fahey recently commented, it’s a confusing time to be a console warrior.

We received new trailers for a whole swathe of previously announced titles, including Cronos: The New Dawn, The Outer Worlds 2, and Ghost of Yotei, which it was revealed will be receiving a Legends multiplayer mode in 2026, just like Ghost of Tsushima before it.

But the crowd was most roused by new footage from Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which after years in development by various different studios is finally being released on October 21st this year.

Keighley took some time to enthuse about Death By Scrolling, the new game from Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert, which offers a departure from Gilbert’s point and click adventure roots by tasking the player with avoiding Death by fleeing upwards through a forced-scrolling playfield.

Eventually, nearly two hours in, and long after the show had begun to lose momentum, it was the turn of Resident Evil Requiem, a game that is clearly hotly anticipated by the audience. There were actual German whoops.

The new footage focused on terrified protagonist Grace Ashcroft fleeing violent monk-ish intruders alongside her handgun-wielding mother, but otherwise offered frustratingly few details about the new title, which is due on February 27th, 2026.

As Keighley entered into his thank yous following the trailer, it was notable that many audience members chose to get up and leave while he was speaking. But there was one more thing, he said, prompting the biggest reveal of the night.

A short CGI trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui ended the show, a sequel to Game Science’s multi-million selling Black Myth: Wukong.

Few details were provided apart from the name, but the fact that this one was saved until last just goes to show how Chinese studios are currently in the soaring ascendent.

Game Science reveal Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a new action-RPG that aims to catch Wukong players “off guard”

by admin August 20, 2025

Black Myth: Wukong developers Game Science have revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui, another single-player action-RPG steeped in Chinese mythology. It casts you as a ghost-hunting god who wanders between hell and Earth. Here’s a CG short from Gamescom’s Open Night Live 2025, which shows the fearsomely bearded Zhong Kui himself riding an extravagantly sized tiger.

Watch on YouTube

In a Q&A on the official site, the developers call the game a “tentative first step – to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design”. They want Wukong players to feel “right at home” while “catching them off guard in the best way”. That said, for now the new game remains “little more than an empty folder”, with no release date and little sense in the CG trailer of how Zhong Kui fights, compared to Wukong. I’m guessing that tiger is a useful ally, though.

We quite liked the original Black Myth, with bygone reviews editor Ed Thorn (RPS in peace) calling it “a refreshing adventure after Elden Ring’s knotty DLC”. We were less keen on the mildly draconian PR messages to certain streamers, cautioning them to avoid “feminist propaganda”, “politics” and discussion of the Chinese games industry.

These gamergatory memos followed a lengthy report from IGN about alleged workplace sexism at Game Science. The devs refused to say anything to Ed about this when he asked at a preview event. If we’re invited to preview Zhong Kui, we’ll give it another shot.

GameScience reveals Black Myth: Zhong Kui

by admin August 20, 2025

Chinese studio GameScience, creators of Black Myth: Wukong, formally revealed their upcoming action RPG “Black Myth: Zhong Kui” at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2025.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui serves as the second installment in the Black Myth franchise, presenting a single-player action role-playing experience grounded in ancient Chinese mythology. Developed by GameScience using Unreal Engine 5, the game draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese legend “Zhong Kui Banishing Evil”.

The development team promises unique gameplay mechanics and experiences that challenge their creative boundaries, while incorporating innovative concepts and improvements designed to resolve previous shortcomings and unfulfilled ambitions.

About Zhong Kui

The story of Zhong Kui was first recorded in “Tang Yishi” (“Unofficial History of the Tang Dynasty”) and gained wider circulation through Northern Song scholar Shen Kuo’s (1031–1095) “Dream Pool Essays”. Born on Mount Zhongnan, Zhong Kui travelled to Chang’an during Emperor Gaozu’s Wude reign to sit the imperial military examination but failed. In despair, he struck his head on the palace steps and died. Grateful for the green burial robe (the attire of lower-ranking officials, a token of imperial recognition) bestowed by Gaozu, he vowed to rid the Tang realm of every Xuhao (Chinese: 虚耗, Xūhào, meaning “wasteful expenditure” and “consuming blessings for nothing”) ghosts and harmful spectres.During the Kaiyuan era of the Tang dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong fell ill, and a month of treatment brought no relief. One night, while asleep in sickness, he dreamed of a small ghost slipping into the palace to steal Consort Yang’s embroidered sachet and his own jade flute. The ghost called itself Xuhao, a bringer of waste and disperser of blessings. Just as the emperor was about to summon someone to expel it, Zhong Kui rushed into the hall, seized the creature in one swift motion, gouged out its eyes, and swallowed them whole. The emperor awoke drenched in a cold sweat—only to find his illness cured.Taking this as an auspicious omen, Xuanzong ordered the court painter Wu Daozi to create “Zhong Kui Capturing the Ghost”. From then on, it became customary to paste images of Zhong Kui on household doors at year’s end, especially on New Year’s Eve, to “banish baleful wraiths, and still the miasma of evil”.
