White House Weighing Candidates for Multiple CFTC Spots: Former Chairman Giancarlo

by admin October 2, 2025

Though the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Acting Chairman Caroline Pham has been blazing forward on crypto-friendly policy, even as she has one foot out the door, the White House is working quickly to find a permanent successor after abandoning President Donald Trump’s first choice.

Trump nominee Brian Quintenz, a former commissioner, was dropped recently, and the administration has since been “hard at work” on announcing a new choice, said former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo, who added that he was at the White House on Wednesday.

“The White House felt that they had things in hand; it didn’t work out,” Giancarlo said in an interview on CoinDesk TV. “I’m very optimistic that soon we will have nominees that everyone will say, ‘Wow, great choices.'”

Giancarlo — a longtime crypto advocate sometimes known in the industry as “Crypto Dad,” a name he used as the title of a book he wrote on the digital assets movement — said the White House is vetting CFTC candidates beyond the chairmanship. Without a slate of commissioners, whoever takes over from Pham would be alone at the commission, which is meant to have five members by law. Policies instituted by a single-member commission could be vulnerable to legal challenges.

“They’re very aware of this,” Giancarlo said. “They know what they’ve got to do.”

A top contender for the chairmanship is Mike Selig, who has been working as a senior official on crypto policies at the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to people familiar with the vetting. Any nominees still need confirmation from the U.S. Senate before they can take the jobs — a process that stalled mid-stream with Quintenz after he was openly opposed by Gemini CEO Tyler Winklevoss.

The CFTC is likely to be a leading regulator of U.S. crypto markets, especially if the Senate completes and passes market structure legislation that’s already cleared the House of Representatives. That effort would give new powers to the smaller cousin of the SEC, granting it jurisdiction over the spot markets where crypto commodities such as bitcoin trade directly. Though the SEC has been moving quickly into a crypto-cheering posture under Trump, the CFTC had a deep history with the sector since its 2015 move to recognize bitcoin as a commodity.

Earlier this week, Pham sought to assure financial-sector lawyers that the CFTC is moving forward fine under her temporary leadership, though she’s also said she’s hoping to leave the agency soon. Giancarlo said she is owed a “debt of gratitude” for what she’s doing, much of which has been focused on a “crypto sprint” she’s offered to match the SEC’s Project Crypto agenda.

While the shorthanded CFTC awaits new leadership, the Senate has been slowed by the federal government shutdown and is showing few signs of a near-term completion of the industry legislation.

Representative Bryan Steil, the chairman of the crypto subcommittee within the House Financial Services Committee, said in a separate interview on CoinDesk TV that the current goal is “getting this completed as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the year.” That’s slipped considerably from Trump’s initial deadline of August.

The House had already passed its version this year — the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act — with an overwhelming bipartisan vote. Steil argued the Senate can save a lot of time by “using Clarity as baseline text” for its work, though Senate Republicans proposed their own draft language and that’s the text lawmakers have been working from.

From NBN 25 to NBN 1000, Flip now has the cheapest NBN plans in multiple tiers

by admin October 2, 2025

Everyone wants value for money, especially when it comes to NBN plans. There’s no point paying more for a plan from a big-brand telco when you can often spend less and still get reliable performance.

Award-winning* Australian-owned telco Flip understands that well, and we’ve frequently recommended it as a great provider for anyone seeking the most-affordable NBN plans on offer.

That value continues to shine with Flip’s introduction of some major 8-month-long discounts across some of the most popular NBN speed tiers, making it the cheapest reputable provider. If you’ve been wondering if you could benefit from switching your current home internet plan, Flip’s new deals give you a great reason to find out, with plans starting from just AU$44 per month for the first 8 months.

The 8-month introductory discounts specifically apply to Flip’s NBN 25, NBN 750 and NBN 1000 plans, providing competitive options here for those on a tight budget who just need an internet connection for basic needs (such as web browsing and social media scrolling), as well as speed demons who demand a lightning-quick service for the fastest downloads and big households with lots of users.

When we research and recommend NBN plans here at TechRadar, introductory discounts are often par for the course, although they’re mostly limited to 6 months at most. It’s welcome, then, to see Flip extending its introductory period by an extra 2 months, especially when the monthly costs are already among the cheapest on offer.

Here are the full details on the discounted plans:

If either of the two high-speed NBN plans above take your fancy, you’ll first need to make sure you have the right connection type at your premises to support them – either fibre to the premises (FTTP) or hybrid fibre coax (HFC). You can easily find out by plugging your address into Flip’s checker.

If you don’t have the necessary connection type, you may be eligible for the free fibre upgrade, which will involve a technician coming to your home to install new FTTP cabling. Flip will be able to arrange the technician visit for you.

You’ll want to be quick, though, as these 8-month discounts are only available until 31 October, 2025 . Head to Flip’s website today to check out all of its great-value plans.

Multiple Network launches MTP swap, $1M buyback plan

by admin September 29, 2025

Multiple Network will replace its compromised MTP token and commit to a year-long buyback program after a third-party market maker unlocked and dumped tokens without authorization.

Summary

  • MTP compromised by unauthorized market maker unlocks.
  • New token contract launched with 1:1 swap.
  • $1M buyback plan and legal recovery underway.

The incident, which polluted the token supply and drove sharp price declines, prompted the team to initiate an emergency swap and legal recovery measures.

According to the project’s Sept. 29 announcement, trading was suspended at 2:00 AM UTC for a snapshot of balances. With the deployment of a new BEP-20 contract on BNB (BNB) Chain, MTP tokens are automatically allocated to verified on-chain and exchange holders in a 1:1 ratio.

The new MTP’s trading, withdrawals, and deposits have all resumed, as per exchanges like Binance.

Buyback plan and legal action

To restore confidence, the team committed to repurchasing at least $1 million worth of MTP within 12 months. Between $50,000 and $100,000 will be bought back monthly during the first six months, with the scale for months seven to twelve determined by market conditions.

In addition, all funds recovered through legal action against the market maker will be used for further buybacks. The team noted that judicial proceedings have reached a critical stage and updates will follow once disclosure is permitted.

Timeline of the crisis

The breach surfaced on Sept. 23 when community managers confirmed that a market maker violated lock-up terms, leading to unauthorized token dumps. Price dropped as low as $0.002101, with market cap sliding significantly. By Sept. 27, the team advised traders to use exchanges instead of on-chain markets due to contaminated supply.

Multiple Network, a DePIN project focused on Web3 privacy acceleration for AI, had launched MTP in August with an initial listing on Binance Alpha. The token briefly reached $0.0456 but later fell more than 40% amid sell pressure and the breach. The swap and buyback plan aim to stabilize the ecosystem and protect legitimate holders going forward.

New PS5 system update finally makes using a DualSense controller on multiple devices far less hassle

by admin September 16, 2025

A PS5 system update is due tomorrow that will finally add controller pairing across multiple devices.

It means if you’re using your DualSense controller across more than one console – or for PC or mobile play, for instance – you will no longer need to pair it each time.

This update was detailed by Sony back in July, but finally it will be available globally for users from tomorrow, 17th September.

The update will also add Power Saver mode, which will scale back performance to reduce power consumption. Future updates for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will make use of this feature.

Full details can be found on the PlayStation Blog.

Instagram fixed an issue that caused posting multiple Stories to tank your reach

by admin September 12, 2025

Instagram fixed a bug that caused the reach of some users’ Stories to shrink when they posted more than one Story a day, Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared on Friday. The fix addresses a common complaint shared by creators in the last year that they were disincentivized to use Stories because of how regularly using the feature impacted the number of people who actually saw their posts.

“People were complaining about getting less reach with their Stories if they posted lots of Stories in the same day,” Mosseri said in a video announcing the change. “That is not at all the intended behavior of Instagram.” Fixing the bug doesn’t mean every Story you add will be watched, but Mosseri says posting multiple Stories a day won’t negatively impact the reach of your Stories overall, especially your first Story.

For anyone who primarily uses Instagram to keep up with their friends, the change might not matter all that much. But much like YouTube, Instagram is an increasingly professionalized platform where people post in the hopes of expanding their reach and earning a living off their content. That creates an interesting dynamic between Mosseri’s regular announcements and users trying to suss out the nuances of the platform’s algorithm. For every new feature, like adding of comments to Stories, there’s subtler tweaks that can totally change creators’ content strategy.

Shift Up to expand Stellar Blade franchise after successful launch across multiple platforms

by admin September 3, 2025

Shift Up has announced in a recent financial report that it intends to expand the Stellar Blade franchise with “various derivative works”.

The financial report (which can be read here though is entirely in Korean) dives into the success of its different products including Stellar Blade in the section titled “Main Products and Services”. There, the company highlights the game’s stellar (zing) performance both at launch and with its port to PC.

The report states (via machine translation): “Through this, [Stellar Blade] was able to effectively secure a new user base and further strengthen its position as a global AAA franchise IP. We plan to develop various derivative works to expand the [Stellar Blade] IP so that [Stellar Blade] can establish itself as a well-made IP.”

Here’s the launch trailer for Stellar Blade.Watch on YouTube

This should not be a massive surprise for two major reasons. The first being that Stellar Blade has proven exceptionally successful for Shift Up, especially when you consider it was an original work for the studio. The game sold over a million copies on PC within three days of the Steam version going live, after all.

Secondly, Shift Up previously stated its intention to make a Stellar Blade 2 back in May, courtesy of an investor presentation. So true Stellar Blade fanatics have further evidence of something to look forward to. If you want a tinfoil hat angle to this bit of news, it’s interesting to note this most recent financial report makes note of a general intent to make “derivative works”, rather than solely stating a sequel. Though, that’s pure speculation.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

"Multiple" future Hardspace projects are coming, as Hardspace: Shipbreaker devs Blackbird Interactive take full ownership

“Multiple” future Hardspace projects are coming, as Hardspace: Shipbreaker devs Blackbird Interactive take full ownership

by admin August 17, 2025

Floating amid the scrap belts of space, some news. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is now owned by developers Blackbird Interactive, with the studio having bought control of the ship-stripping sim from publishers Saber Interactive. They’re not having a rest after cracking open that bubbly either, writing that “multiple Hardspace projects” are in development.

Blackbird revealed all of this via a Steam post, writing that they’ve “reached an agreement with Focus Entertainment, our publishing partner, to reacquire full ownership of the Hardspace: Shipbreaker intellectual property”. So, as you might expect, doing plenty of Hardspacey things is going to be a big part of the studio’s plans going forwards.

To that end, they revealed here that “multiple Hardspace projects are already in development”. “We’re not ready to share any specifics yet, but rest assured we have paid close attention to your feedback and are laser-focused on ensuring this next generation of Hardspace expands on the original game in all the right ways,” Blackbird added.

In the run up to releasing these new games, the studio aim to “grow the Hardspace community”, urging folks to join the series’ Discord server, where breaking updates will be launched into your orbit whenever they’re ready. You can also pre-register for the “LYNX Pioneer Program” via Blackbird’s website, if you fancy the chance to take part in early playtests and offer feedback on future Hardspace games. There’s some other community stuff like contests and the chance to generally chat with devs included in that too.

Also, Hardspace: Shipbreaker itself will be getting a “small update” that’ll mainly take care of housekeeping details to indicate the change in ownership, like revamping the privacy policies and splash screens.

Our Liam wrote the following about the game in his review:

What a thrill, to exist on the sidelines. To look longingly out towards the stars and wonder what’s going on beyond your little corner of this expansive universe. To understand a society purely through its waste products. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a truly marvellous thing to spend time within. I quite like being a background character, it turns out. Being the hero is overrated. If Shipbreaker has taught me anything it’s that the satisfaction of a hard day’s work beats saving the universe every single time.

There are also thoughts on it from Alice O and Alice B, if you’re keen to fill your Alice quota.
