MrBeast Promises Latest Grotesque YouTube Stunt Was Completely Safe

The latest YouTube video stunt by one James “MrBeast” Donaldson has already wracked up over 46 million views in just one day and it’s not hard to imagine why. Titled “Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?” it shows a series of challenges in which people brave flame-engulfed obstacles in exchange for money. It’s kind of like David Blaine if, instead of doing absurd and wild stuff himself, he paid other people to do it while also explaining how it was all incredibly fake and just for grim lulz.

The infernal trap that’s been drawing the most attention is one in which a stuntman is tied to a chair inside a “burning house” and has to escape and save as much money as he can from inside the house in order to earn the highest cash prize possible. Donaldson bounces back and forth between urgent warnings about how real the flames are and mugging the camera with jokes about MrBeast product placement. The entertainment concept is more grotesquely mundane than anything Phillip K. Dick could have imagined and also, clearly, highly entertaining to millions of people.

Donaldson defended his uniquely gifted intuition for creating the debased content people crave by promising the whole stunt was tested with professionals multiple times, responding to viral posts about the stunt with additional context. The last thing Donaldson needs after lawsuits last year over alleged safety violations on his Amazon Prime show is people thinking he doesn’t take the premise of potentially roasting another human being alive for less than the median home price after taxes seriously.

“We had professionals test this extensively and the guy in the video as stated is a professional stunt man,” he wrote on X over the weekend. “I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine.” He expanded on the setup in a comment on the YouTube video as well.

Content creators tend to think any spectacle is defensible if they can say health and safety concerns have been attended to behind the scenes, but that’s not really it imho. Mr. Beast’s whole thing is that his subjects’ desperation for cash allows him—a wealthier person—to indulge his sadism.

“In case there’s any concern about the safety of the stuntman contestant, I just wanted to mention that we take safety extremely seriously,” he added. “Every challenge was tested by multiple stuntmen, we have a full rescue team on standby with firefighters, EMTs and divers equipped with an ambulance and fire truck. We also had a pyro team controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods on every challenge to ensure we could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue. But our stunt coordinator did an amazing job as always, and none of these systems were ever needed. Just wanted to be transparent with you all since I saw some concern!”

This is the Catch-22 at the heart of this entire genre of extremely watchable algorithm-bait. Either the entire thing is so real and authentic that it’s an absolutely monstrous thing for everyone involved to be associated with and signals the utter depravity of modern capitalism, or the stunt is all so fake and performative that none of it matters and you’ve been conned out of 25 minutes of your week just so some guy can hock candy bars.

Either way, it kinda sucks!

MrBeast addresses ‘concerns’ as “evil” $500,000 challenge goes viral for wrong reasons

MrBeast has come under fire, pun intended, for his latest YouTube video in which, a man is trapped inside a room engulfed with flames for a $500,000 prize.

The biggest personality on the internet is often pushing boundaries with his content, not always pleasing everyone on social media in the process. This trend has continued with his latest upload wherein, a contestant is effectively asked if they’d risk their life for half a million dollars.

In particular, the first segment of the 25-minute YouTube upload is spreading like wildfire, with millions of impressions across various social media platforms. Many are bashing the very premise of the challenge, with others arguing MrBeast is bordering on morphing into a horror movie villain.

Amid the controversy, MrBeast has addressed concerns in multiple comments after the fact.

MrBeast’s fiery $500,000 controversy explained

What ensues is a single contestant making their way through a series of seven challenges, which MrBeast labelled “Death Traps.” Each obstacle involved fire, to some degree, be it jumping through hoops of fire or swimming underneath water set ablaze.

Throughout the video, MrBeast reminds the audience that the contestant, Eric, is an experienced stuntman. The participant himself also adds he’s “very used to this kind of craziness” through his vocation.

Eric agreed to take part in the risky series of challenges in order to use the prize money to help his cancer-stricken father.

While the personal stakes were clearly high, it’s clear to see MrBeast and his team took plenty of precautions to ensure Eric’s safety throughout the competition. For instance, the final task was to run through a few meters of fire. Here, we can see Eric is covered in multiple layers of protective clothing, not to mention fire-retardant gel on his skin to prevent serious damage.

While it’s all obviously inherently dangerous, it’s evident in the publicly released footage how steps were taken to avoid life-threatening harm.

Regardless, millions across social media have mostly been exposed to a single clip taken from the video without that context. As a result, many are bashing MrBeast once again for having contestants risk their well-being for the sake of financial gain.

MrBeast blasted for trapping man in room on fire

For the most part, the clip gaining traction is from the start of the video. Eric is tied to a chair in a room on fire. He has to free himself from the rope before grabbing bags of cash and getting them safely out of the room.

Comments on X (formerly Twitter) ranged from labelling the YouTuber as “f***ing evil,” to arguing he needs to be ‘cancelled’ “before someone actually dies and he profits off of it.”

Others called it “dystopian,” joking that MrBeast isn’t far off from the fictional murders seen in the likes of Squid Game.

Meanwhile, on Reddit, users questioned how the video doesn’t go against YouTube’s Terms of Service.

MrBeast addresses fallout from ‘Risk Dying for $500,000’ video

Given the attention, most of it negative, MrBeast soon responded to complaints online. First came a lengthy comment under the YouTube video itself, assuring they take “safety extremely seriously.”

According to the comment, all seven challenges were first tested by “multiple stuntmen.” Furthermore, a full rescue team of firefighters and EMTs, with an ambulance and firetruck at the ready, was on site in the case of an emergency.

MrBeast Invests Nearly $1M in ASTER Token Amid Market Scrutiny

Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, widely known as MrBeast, has invested nearly $1 million in the ASTER, native token of decentralized derivatives exchange Aster. 

According to Lookonchain, MrBeast purchased 538,384 ASTER tokens worth nearly $990,000 over the past three days. He reportedly deposited $1 million USDT into Aster using two public wallets before withdrawing the tokens at an average cost of $1.87 from the exchange. 

The purchase comes after he recently lost $20k while going long on the token on September 22. 

As of writing, ASTER token was trading at $1.79, down 12.39% in the last 24 hours, with a 24-hour volume of $2.52 billion, as per CoinMarketCap data. 

MrBeast’s trading history raises eyebrows

MrBeast has previously faced criticism for allegedly hyping tokens and then selling at a profit. Lookonchain revealed he made over $23 million from getting in early on new projects and promoting them. MrBeast’s biggest crypto payday came from SuperVerse. Insiders have reportedly sold during a massive 50x price jump, leaving regular investors with heavy losses.

MrBeast (@MrBeast), an influencer with 31.2M followers, has engaged in insider trading, misleading investors, and using his influence to pump tokens, only to dump them later.

The controversy didn’t stop there. Reports claimed that he deleted social media posts and leaked private messages, suggesting he may have had ties to other questionable projects. Some of them include Ethernity Chain, Polkamon, STAK, and AIOZ Network.

On September 21, Lookonchain noted on X, “MrBeast profited over $23M through insider trading, misleading investors, and using his influence to pump tokens.” While supporters argue this reflects sharp investing, critics see an exploitative pattern. 

Aster’s rapid growth and challenges

According to data from DefiLlama, Aster recently reached $24.7 billion in daily perpetual trading volume, far outpacing Hyperliquid’s $10 billion number. Aster’s token generation event last week attracted attention as well, as Binance Co-Founder CZ acknowledged the high demand for it.

However, the token encountered challenges when XPL contracts surged unexpectedly. In an X post, the exchange assured the affected that “all funds are SAFU” and promptly reimbursed any losses within hours.

Is MrBeast Really Loading up on ASTER, ‘New BNB’ That Surged 8,000%?

Lookonchain claims that a wallet associated with MrBeast transferred $1 million USDT into Aster and withdrew 538,384 ASTER at an average cost of $1.87. These transactions occurred in the same week that Aster became one of the most-talked-about launches of 2025.

Nothing has been confirmed, but this claim is now fueling headlines: is MrBeast betting on what traders are calling the “new BNB?”

Aster’s debut was meteoric. Launched on Sept. 17 at just above two cents, it surged by almost 7,000% in four days, reaching $2 before cooling to $1.80. Its market capitalization reached $3 billion, with a 24-hour trading volume above $2.5 billion. 

Nearly 80,000 wallets now hold the token. For context, Aster moved from the status to becoming one of the top 40 cryptocurrencies in less than 10 days.

What is ASTER, and what does Binance have to do with it?

Aster is a decentralized perpetual exchange incubated by YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs. CZ boosted the launch on X by posting side-by-side mentions of Aster and BNB. This kind of open endorsement from Binance’s founder is rare, and the market took it as a green light.

Beyond the hype are tokenomics. The supply is capped at eight billion ASTER. Currently in circulation are 1.65 billion tokens. More than half of the total tokens are reserved for community programs, while the rest will vest over seven years.

Bottom line

Hyperliquid has dominated perpetuals all year, but Aster’s success has forced a rethink. Regardless of whether MrBeast is behind the wallet, traders’ perception of the token is already being influenced by this question.

The NFL Goes MrBeast Mode

The first international game of the National Football League season, a Friday-night tilt between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, is celebrated on the ground by the usual pomp and circumstance.

There are photo booths and merch tents catering to local fans, samba dancers in feathered head-pieces entertaining American die-hards traveling across the equator, and a press conference where Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has to backtrack after calling association football (that is, the kind that is still most popular in Brazil, and the rest of the word) “soccer.” But fans tuning in at home are greeted by a different, somewhat more disturbing spectacle: news that YouTuber, prolific content creator, and protein-infused milk impresario Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has purchased the NFL.

In a pregame preview airing on YouTube–which, for the first time ever, is broadcasting a regular-season NFL game globally, and for free–the platform’s most valuable creator appears opposite league commissioner Roger Goodell, in a purportedly comical “sketch” about MrBeast’s takeover of the league, which sees him assigning popular content creators to team rosters. A postgame stunt sees Donaldson awarding one hardcore fan a ticket to Super Bowl LX, and firing another out of a human cannon. Not everyone welcomes the NFL’s new zillennial overlord. “MrBeast on my television invading my beautiful sport,” one fan posts on X. A friend (a lifelong football fan in his mid-40s) who texts me during the game says the whole production, “Looks insanely gen z.”

Which is of course the point. The September 5 YouTube-exclusive São Paulo game (the platform covered my travel expenses to attend), dovetails two of the NFL’s key priorities, spreading football both internationally and intergenerationally. “I completely understand that not all fans and audiences are going to welcome change,” Donaldson writes in a statement to WIRED. “Our hope is that over time they’ll recognize we are approaching everything we do with admiration and respect and want to be able to share something that’s as unique and special as the NFL with our fans.”

If the NFL fails to establish American football abroad, both with Gen Z—whose sports fandom, studies have shown, ranks the lowest among generational cohorts—and with international audiences unaccustomed to the distinctly American pastime, it won’t be for lack of trying. Since 2005, the league has been hosting regular-season games abroad. First was Mexico. Then London. Then Germany. Then Brazil. This season will see additional international games in Berlin, Madrid, and Dublin. The penetration into the South American market seems at once incredibly bold and completely sensible. Sensible, because players and fans alike don’t have to struggle against the pesky realities of time zones. And bold because, perhaps even more so than the UK or continental Europe, South America has its own distinct, passionate football culture that has nothing to do with its brawnier North American cousin.

The NFL’s 2025 Brazilian operation offers a good matchup for further testing the viability of the South American market. Due to their long, somewhat challenging, history in Southern California, the Chargers boast a substantial Latino fan base, who call them Los Bolts. And the Chiefs (despite being dismantled humiliatingly in last season’s Super Bowl) remain a global brand. The Chiefs have also benefited from the A-list celebrity of some of their players, specifically Mahomes, and tight end Travis Kelce, whose recent engagement to pop star Taylor Swift makes him de facto one of the most famous human beings on the planet. As James Brighton, a Chargers fan and California native who traveled to Brazil for the matchup, grumbles to me before the game, “Mahomes is easily marketable … Kelce and Taylor Swift is the romance the world wants to see, I guess. They’re the face of the NFL right now.” The league is counting on it. But for the NFL’s second Brazil game, they aren’t taking any chances.

“There is no better platform than YouTube,” says veteran broadcaster Rich Eisen, his head literally framed by a YouTube logo as he lounges in the YouTube-branded green room deep in the concrete bowels of São Paulo’s Neo Química Arena in the idle hours before he ascends to the broadcast booth to provide play-by-play commentary. “There is no more powerful distributor to reach people of all ages, and to feed an insatiable desire of people to take in content.”

Eisen speaks from experience. At 56, he may be a generation or three removed from the Gen Z–dominated domain of professional content creation. Nevertheless, he has been able to parlay his success as a journalist and longtime Sportscenter and NFL Network anchor into an arguably ever larger audience, streaming his Emmy-nominated, three-hour daily sports-talk program The Rich Eisen Show on YouTube, among other platforms. “The world has changed and you’ve got to be part of it,” he tells WIRED. “I mean, the commissioner of the NFL didn’t do a video about the Brazil game with me. And I’ve been his employee for 23 years! He did it with MrBeast.”

Caleb Hearon says MrBeast personally apologized after Rolling Stone controversy

Comedian Caleb Hearon says everything is settled after MrBeast reached out to him directly to apologize following backlash over a Rolling Stone creator ranking.

In late August 2025, Rolling Stone published its annual list of most influential creators, placing Caleb Hearon at number six, just ahead of YouTube star Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson at number seven. MrBeast reacted on X with a since-deleted post questioning how someone with fewer followers could outrank him.

The reaction drew heavy criticism, with many defending Hearon and calling MrBeast entitled for taking the ranking too seriously. Donaldson later deleted the post and softened his stance, saying he had checked out Hearon’s content after the fact.

Hearon, meanwhile, took the moment in stride. He reposted the screenshot of MrBeast’s tweet to his Instagram story and joked about being in “peace talks” with the YouTuber. He later told fans he found the whole ordeal funny and didn’t take the comments personally, saying he believed people online had blown it out of proportion.

Hearon recalls MrBeast apology during Mythical Kitchen

On September 11, Hearon appeared on the YouTube series Mythical Kitchen, where the hosts brought out a cake decorated with the words “Sorry Mr. Beast.” The gag referenced the online clash and Hearon’s joking claim that peace negotiations were underway.

Hearon explained that MrBeast had in fact called him directly after the backlash. “Mr. Beast called me and said, ‘I’m so sorry about that,’” Hearon recalled, adding that he was never offended and thought the entire ordeal was hilarious. “I legitimately thought it was funny. I laughed so hard. It meant nothing to me.” Hearon also noted that he did not believe the Rolling Stone feature was ever meant to be a strict ranking, suggesting the order was designed to keep readers engaged.

The segment ended with and improvised cake gag, changing its message from an apology to MrBeast to an apology from MrBeast. For Hearon, the controversy was overblown, and MrBeast’s personal apology was enough to put it behind them.

MrBeast looks to follow Ryan Reynolds into mobile market

YouTube royalty MrBeast is following in the footsteps of Hollywood A-Lister Ryan Reynolds and making plans to create his very own phone service company in the vein of Mint Mobile.

Jimmy ‘MrBeast‘ Donaldson has never been one to solely rely on his YouTube empire to stay afloat. He’s launched a slew of different business ventures over the years, including his Feastables chocolate bar line, his MrBeast Lab toy brand, and even his own game show on Amazon Prime, to name a few.

Now, MrBeast is looking into the world of communications — specifically, starting his own phone service company, using Ryan Reynold’s Mint Mobile as a blueprint.

YouTube giant MrBeast eyes phone service launch

A leaked investor deck, obtained by Business Insider earlier this year, listed the idea as one of several initiatives being pursued by Beast Industries, the YouTuber’s self-named company.

Sources close to the organization told Business Insider that Donaldson’s team is casting a wide net to secure partnerships, saying there is not a specific launch date or timeline to indicate when the phone company will launch as of yet.

They also noted that this particular venture is not an “immediate priority” for Beast Industries, though the deck initially suggested the phone company would launch sometime in 2026.

While MrBeast has been able to move proverbial mountains thanks to his internet empire, competing with the likes of T-Mobile and Verizon to make a phone service seems daunting for anyone — but he won’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Instagram: MrBeastMrBeast’s YouTube success has paved the way for him to expand his business in multiple directions.

Beast Industries’ pitch deck suggested that its service would be an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator). In simple terms, an MVNO is a branded mobile plan that uses other companies’ pre-existing infrastructure, such as T-Mobile, by purchasing access to their services, which they then sell to consumers at their own rates.

If this sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen Ryan Reynolds’ advertisements for his own MVNO phone service, Mint Mobile, which he sold to T-Mobile for $1.35B in 2024.

This is just the latest undertaking for MrBeast after he raised over $40M to help give communities across the world access to clean drinking water as part of his viral TeamWater initiative.
