Conjuring Last Rites Just Made Horror Movie Box Office History

by admin September 8, 2025

The Conjuring: Last Rites had a massive opening weekend. The ninth film in the Conjuring franchise and fourth entry in the main series racked up over $190 million globally and set a new record for horror films. And it continues Warner Bros’ incredible and historic hot streak.

Arriving in theaters on September 5, The Conjuring: Last Rites brought in $84 million domestically alone, making it the largest domestic opening in the franchise’s history. The horror flick, which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, collected $110 million internationally, as reported by Variety. Combined, the film brought in $194 million total.

That bonkers total, which far exceeds WB’s expectations, is not only the biggest opening in the franchise’s history, but it also beat out 2017’s It, which earned $190 million during its opening weekend, and is now the largest debut for a horror flick ever. The entire Conjuring universe, which started in 2013, now sits at $2.3 billion in earnings, making it the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time.

And despite lukewarm critical reviews, Last Rites continues WB’s impressive and historic box office hot streak. The Conjuring: Last Rites is now the seventh film in a row from WB to make $40 million or more during its opening weekend. It started with Minecraft in April and has continued with each WB movie released since then. This kind of hot streak has never happened before. Will it continue? WB’s next movie, One Battle After Another, might not be able to keep the streak going, but we’ll find out when it arrives in theaters later this month.

One final fact: The top three horror film openings in the United States are now The Conjuring: Last Rites, It, and It: Chapter Two. And guess which studio produced and distributed all of those films? Warner Bros.

The next Resident Evil movie is being directed by Zach Cregger of Weapons fame, who played ‘thousands and thousands of hours of Resident Evil’ but hasn’t seen any of the movies

by admin September 7, 2025

The sketch-comedian-to-horror-movie-director pipeline is real. Jordan Peele went from Mad TV and Key & Peele to Get Out, Nope, and Us. Josh Ruben went from CollegeHumor to Werewolves Within, Heart Eyes, and Scare Me. And now Zach Cregger of The Whitest Kids U’ Know has become a horror-movie name to watch with Barbarian, Weapons, and an upcoming Resident Evil movie.

Weapons was great, a twisty Stephen King-adjacent story of missing kids in the suburbs, but a zombie action-horror movie will be a whole different kettle of fish. I just hope Cregger doesn’t leave his sense of humor behind, because the worst thing you could do with the camp tone of Resi is try to pretend it’s Serious Business.

Speaking to Double Toasted, Cregger said he’s “played I don’t know how many thousands and thousands of hours of Resident Evil” and is planning to make a movie that “probably lives more in the world of 2 and 3, but I’d say it adheres more to the tone of 4.”

He couldn’t say which of the existing movies it’ll resemble, however, because he hasn’t watched them. “I’ve never seen a Resident Evil movie,” he said, “and so, you know, I imagine that if there are people out there that are just rabid fans of the movie franchise, they’re probably not really prepared for what I’m going to be doing. But I think the people that are fans of the games are probably going to be stoked.”

Vocal haters of the movies will be pleased, but I am a little disappointed that 2021’s Welcome to Raccoon City isn’t going to be followed up on. Sure, it had some awkward dialogue that felt like it had been inserted to explain things from scenes that were cut when its budget was slashed, but setting it in 1998 and giving Wesker a PalmPilot was inspired.

Resident Evil: Release Date, Cast, And Everything Else We Know About The Reboot Movie

Resident Evil: Release Date, Cast, And Everything Else We Know About The Reboot Movie

by admin September 7, 2025

For most of the last two decades, the Resident Evil movies were defined by the six films directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, with Milla Jovovich in the leading role as Alice. Those movies made over $1 billion worldwide. However, the 2021 reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, only earned $42 million worldwide.

Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger has been given the reins for a brand-new Resident Evil movie. After co-founding the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know and starring in sitcoms, Cregger has emerged as one of the most successful horror directors of this generation. His involvement with this project sparked a bidding war, which was ultimately won by Sony Pictures, the studio that released the previous seven films in the franchise.

Many of the details about Cregger’s Resident Evil movie remain under wraps for now. But GameSpot has put together a guide to everything we know about the Resident Evil reboot so far.

Who is starring in Resident Evil?

Austin Abrams is currently the only (probably) confirmed cast member for the new film. Abrams recently worked with Cregger on Weapons, and he has some experience with zombies from his time on The Walking Dead. He is also known for his role as Ethan Daley in HBO’s Euphoria.

Will established Resident Evil heroes appear in the film?

Cregger has indicated that he isn’t planning to use any of the RE heroes in leading roles.

“I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games,” explained Cregger. “It is obedient to the lore of the games; it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.”

“[Resident Evil is] an original screenplay,” added Cregger in a separate interview. “It’s a weird story. I wrote it and I love the story. It has nothing to do with any of the other Resident Evil movies. If I do my job, it will feel fresh and edgy and weird.”

Will the tone of Resident Evil follow the example of the previous movies?

According to Cregger, he hasn’t seen any of the Resident Evil movies. Instead of following their example, he intends to recreate the tone of dread from the games.

“I haven’t seen the [earlier Resident Evil] movies, but they don’t seem to promise that feeling [of dread],” said Cregger. “So I wanted to write a story that would just really lean into that. Honor the games–be true to the lore of what’s going on. But I’m not telling any of the stories of the games. It’s a separate story that just happens to exist in that territory.”

“If there are people out there who are rabid fans of the movie franchise, they are probably not really prepared for what I am going to be doing. But I think fans of the games are going to be stoked,” he said.

In an interview with Double Toasted, Cregger said his Resident Evil movie will be “true to the experience” of the video games, and probably “lives in the world” of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but that it adheres more to the tone of Resident Evil 4. The game is not a direct adaptation of any Resident Evil game, however.

Cregger said the video games, too, don’t have a set lore and aren’t rigid with timelines or settings. “I don’t think I am taking any more liberties with this [movie] than the game franchise does. I think I am coloring within the lines,” he said.

“I’ve never seen a movie like it,” he added. “I am beyond excited making this.”

The director added that his sense of tone and his general filmmaking sensibilities honed with Barbarian and Weapons will come through in Resident Evil, albeit on a bigger scale and with a bigger budget.

“It takes place in the world of the games, but most importantly, the journey you’ll have as a viewer watching this movie is going to be similar to the journey you have as a player when you play these games. What that means is it follows one protagonist from point A to point B as they descend deeper and deeper and deeper into hell,” he said. “As someone who has played I don’t know how many thousands and thousands of hours of Resident Evil, I just feel like I know how that pacing can go, and it’s inherently cinematic. I feel like there is a great movie that can live inside this world and inside that sort of pacing. I am really, really pumped about the story that we get to tell here.”

Finally, Cregger confirmed the shooting schedule for Resident Evil, saying cameras are due to begin rolling this October in Prague and continue through the end of January 2026. Why Prague? Cregger cited the city’s generous tax rebates and other factors. “It’s the right place,” he said.

When will the new Resident Evil movie be released?

Resident Evil will hit theaters on September 18, 2026, just a few months after the game franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Mappa President Hopes ‘Reze Arc’ Movie Will Trigger Fandom Boom for ‘Chainsaw Man’

by admin September 5, 2025

Chainsaw Man fans are a little more than a month away from experiencing the film arc continuation of the anime, Reze Arc, in theaters. Before its release, Studio Mappa’s presidents spoke about why they chose to adapt the manga arc into a film and provided an update on the anime’s possible second season.

Speaking with Anime News Network at Anime Expo 2025, Mappa head Manabu Ohtsuka and vice president Hiroya Hasegawa gave their reasoning for making Reze Arc a movie instead of an episodic second season fans can stream from home.

“From a business standpoint, we want to have as many people as possible enjoy The Reze Arc. When we did that, we aimed to maximize our business. It should go theatrical. However, with Season One of the series, we were able to work closely with Crunchyroll, and they’ve done a fabulous job,” Ohtsuka said.

“At the same time, those viewers and subscribers of Crunchyroll may not necessarily go to theaters. They might be a little more at home-based. We want to reach a different, broader audience. We’re able to team up with Sony Pictures, which would be reaching such people.”

When asked if revenue shares were another factor in Reze Arc‘s theatrical release, Ohtsuka said it was less of a factor as was widening the anime’s fanbase.

Ohtsuka also clarified to ANN a previous statement made in an interview with Tokyo Keizai, where Chainsaw Man was compared to another megapopular Mappa anime, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Ohtsuka said the latter “didn’t have the same level of impact” and left him “feeling unsatisfied.” At the time, Ohtsuka’s comments made fans question whether a follow-up to Chainsaw Man would happen. Now, Ohtsuka told ANN that his comments were blown out of proportion.

“This isn’t a criticism of the article or Tokyo Keizai, but it was never our intention to compare Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man in any way. We just thought we could have squeezed so much more out of Chainsaw Man‘s IP and the manga. There is so much room for improvement, and that’s something we are striving for. That’s our goal. There’s only a bright future, and that’s what we’re going for.”

Jujutsu Kaisen also had a theatrical release for Jujutsu Kaisen 0, back in 2022, which performed well domestically and abroad. It also had a compilation film of its second-season anime arc, Hidden Inventory/Premature Death, which was shown in theaters, earning $2.5 million in the US, according to ANN. Chainsaw Man appears to be following suit, with mooted plans to similarly drum up hype for the series.

Crunchyroll recapped Chainsaw Man’s first season to lure in wide-eyed newcomers with two compilation films on the streamer. Those features, appropriately titled Chainsaw Man – The Compilation and Chainsaw Man – The Compilation: Part II, will be released in Japan on September 5, with plans to make them available in the U.S. and elsewhere later this month.

In addition to catching as many folks up to speed before Reze Arc‘s premiere, Mappa also announced an anime adaptation of manga creator Tatsuki Fujimoto‘s slice-of-life, end-of-volume short-panel Chainsaw Man stories to give folks who are deeper into the manga a treat. While Crunchyroll has yet to announce when that will make its way beyond Japan, it may be in the lead up to or following the film’s release.

ANN also pressed Mappa’s executives with a question on every fan’s lips: What’s happening with season two? Unfortunately, their answers were wishy-washy at best…but they didn’t say no.

“We’re always thinking about what’s the best way to deliver Chainsaw Man to the fans who love the franchise. That’s what’s always on our minds,” Ohtsuka said. “But how we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, we’ll announce it when we announce it. We can’t talk about it.”

“As Ohtsuka-san mentioned, [Reze Arc] is a continuation of the first season. We are being loyal to the original content. We asked ourselves, ‘How are we going to do it?’ We thought that the cinema was the best way to deliver the Reze Arc. After Reze, if we are going to create more Chainsaw Man, we’ll probably follow from there,” Hasegawa said. “And then we’ll reevaluate and think, ‘Are we going to do it as a series? Are we going to do it as a film?’ It’s another question we’ll be asking ourselves at that time.”

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc hits theaters in Japan on September 19, before hitting the U.S. on October 29.

The new Street Fighter movie lands in theaters next October

by admin September 5, 2025

The new Street Fighter movie has been given a release date of October 16, 2026. Kitao Sakurai is directing the project and a few generic plot details have been disclosed. The story will be set in 1993, a nod to the year Street Fighter II was released in arcades, and will have familiar characters from the game uncovering “a deadly conspiracy” in the midst of all their street fighting.

It seems safe to expect a fair bit of camp in a Street Fighter project, and that bears out in some of the casting. Andrew Koji will play Ryu; he’s had several past action roles such as Bullet Train and TV series Warrior, so that feels like a solid choice. Noah Centineo is taking a break from his work in Netflix rom-coms (notably To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its sequels) to play Ken. Newcomer Callina Liang, who only has a few credits to date, will play Chun-li. David Dastmalchian will be filling the great Raul Julia’s shoes (and oversized hat) as M. Bison.

Then things really get wacky. Curtis Jackson (who you know as rapper 50 Cent) is playing Balrog and country artist Orville Peck is Vega. Jason Momoa has been cast as Blanka, while WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes has even been chosen to play Guile. This could be absolute gold or absolute trash or possibly both at the same time.

Iron Lung creator gives glowing first impression of Markiplier’s movie adaptation

by admin September 3, 2025

David Syzmanski, creator of the hit indie horror game Iron Lung, gave his first impressions of Markiplier’s long-awaited movie adaptation — and his takeaway should make fans excited.

YouTube star Mark ‘Markiplier‘ Fischbach first announced his ambitious plan to bring Iron Lung to the big screen in early 2023 with a cinematic trailer that mimicked the dark ambience of its namesake.

It’s been over two years since the project was revealed, with the YouTuber giving sporadic updates on the film here and there, saying it was “officially done” in summer 2024.

Things have been comparatively quiet in the year after, with Markiplier saying he’s bent on giving the flick a theatrical release. He’s been working closely alongside Iron Lung’s creator, indie game developer David Syzmanski, who’s gotten a first look at the full film.

Iron Lung creator praises Markiplier’s movie as “very good”

Syzmanski opened up about his impression of the movie in an episode of the Quad Damage Podcast on September 2, 2025 — and it’s safe to say that he’s thoroughly impressed by Mark’s interpretation of his vision.

“It is very good,” Syzmanski said. “I know I am the least unbiased source you could hear from, but the movie is very good. I don’t think people are ready for it.

“It’s a proper ‘movie’ movie. It’s not just, ‘Here, let’s make a fun little movie from the game.’ It’s a serious, proper horror film.”

He reiterated that Markiplier is focused on bringing the flick to theaters, revealing that the project was created “from the ground up” with a theatrical release in mind.

“That’s the hope,” he said when asked about the topic. “That’s why it’s not out yet. The plan has always been for it to release in theaters. It was filmed and scored and everything as a theatrical release. The sound for the movie was created and mixed for a theater, and it makes full use of that.”

(Topic begins at 50 minutes)

Markiplier has admitted that the one thing holding back Iron Lung’s release is his refusal to compromise putting the flick in theaters. Once that happens, fans can finally expect to see it on the silver screen.

“I’m not accepting anything less than theatrical,” he said during an October 18 live stream. “That movie needs to be in theaters. There have been opportunities besides that, but I have not taken them…That’s what I want. That’s what I aim for, and that’s what I think it deserves.”

Markiplier has been intermittently uploading YouTube videos whenever he gets a break from putting the final touches on his movie — a project that has resulted in a few serious injuries for the star, including a hospital visit that resulted from him creating one of the bloodiest scenes in film history.

Next Superman Movie Gets Release Date As New DCU Ramps Up

by admin September 3, 2025

James Gunn’s Superman was a great comic-book movie unburdened by much of the multi-billion-dollar franchise machine powering it, and a sequel isn’t far away. Because even though this summer’s DC blockbuster didn’t feel like just another marketing beat on a pitch deck, it very much is that, too. Gunn’s announcement on Wednesday that Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters in 2027 shows his rebooted DCU is about to be in full swing.

“Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027,” the director posted on social media today alongside comic book artist Jim Lee’s rendering of Superman and Lex Luthor standing next to each other, the latter appearing in his green and purple Warsuit. This “Lexorian armor” is what the billionaire genius uses to even the playing field with his himbo Kryptonian rival, and suggests at the very least the next movie will give us another showdown between the two. Or maybe they’ll end up working together to face an even deadlier, extinction-level event like, say, a visit from Brainiac?

July 2027 will be just two years after Superman arrived in theaters, bringing the box office success back in record time. But it’s far from the only upcoming DCU movie currently on the calendar. Here’s a brief look at the shows and movies in development that currently have dates attached to them:

  • Lanterns TV Series: Early 2026
  • Supergirl: June 26, 2026
  • Clayface: September 11, 2026
  • Man of Tomorrow: July 9, 2027
  • Dynamic Duo: June 30, 2028

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman is also in the mix with a slated release date of October 1st, 2027, further powering DC’s presence at the multiplex, though the Robert Pattinson-led films are not, strictly speaking, part of James Gunn’s DCU.

You may be detecting a pattern here: we’re getting at least one Superman-related movie and one Batman-related movie annually for the next two years. There’s also Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, and Deathstroke movies in development, alongside a bunch of other projects. Gunn has previously promised that the scripts will come first in these productions, preventing messy reshoots and other expensive holdups until the stories have been locked down. That at least sounds like it’s in contrast to the recent Marvel process of letting the needs of franchise development run the show.

The proof, of course, will be in this new DCU’s track record once it actually takes shape. For now it’s just one good movie and some cool ideas. We’ll see how the next two years pan out. In the meantime, Peacemaker season 2 just kicked off on HBO streaming for everyone looking for clues about where Gunn’s interconnected superhero universe will go next.

The Long Walk review: Bleak, brutal Stephen King movie is an all-timer

by admin September 3, 2025

As a Stephen King adaptation, The Long Walk belongs in the echelon occupied by Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption. As a movie, it’s a gruelling endurance test that’s also an immensely moving privilege.

Battle Royale, The Hunger Games, Squid Game – three pop-culturally pervasive IPs united by one fundamental aspect: nations in decay that promise riches (if not merely survival) to the few to balm, or simply distract the many. We’re not there (yet), but you’d need to be blind, deaf, or dim to not understand why these stories are so popular; we root for the few, but we are the many.

Article continues after ad

You could say The Long Walk is a little late. Ultimately, it’s another dystopian tale that revolves around a deadly contest, and it’s even directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed most of The Hunger Games films. What else is there to say or see, other than echoes and reflections of misery?

Article continues after ad

Well, through Lawrence, writer JT Mollner, and King (or Richard Bachman, for the fans), it manages to feel like a movie for now. Also, and this part is important… it could be the best film you’ll watch this year.

Article continues after ad

What is The Long Walk about?

Nineteen years on from a war that “tore this nation apart,” the US is decrepit and impoverished, with free-spirited books and music banned under the country’s totalitarian regime.

Each year, the American dream is distilled down to its cursed essence with a nationwide competition: The Long Walk, in which young men are required to walk at a speed of at least 3mph. As the Major (Mark Hamill) booms, there’s “no finish line” – the contest only ends with one man standing, and those who slow down or stop are point-blank executed. It’s not compulsory to enter, either: those who want to take part volunteer their names in a lottery, and they’re offered a “back out day” before the walk begins.

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

If they win, they get “a gazillion dollars” and one wish. Raymond Garraty (Cooper Hoffman) has big plans for his wish, with hopes to rid the country of the contest once and for all, while Peter McVries (David Jonsson) has even nobler aspirations. They quickly find kinship with each other as one foot follows another and tens of miles turn to hundreds; bantering, laughing, confiding, and at times, carrying (almost literally).

There is one distinct detail: despite the Major’s best, gravelly efforts to sensationalize the contest, there’s no glory in it. They walk from town to town past endless fields, greeted by little more than dead cattle and sullen-faced families. “Pretty f**king desolate,” Garraty even says.

Article continues after ad

That’s what makes it all so affecting: there’s very little exposition about the conception of the walk or why boys who take part need to die, but it’s the result of stubbornness (for the government) and desperation (for the boys, even if they don’t know it). Even the worst participants (Charlie Plummer’s Barkovitch is especially loathsome) are easy to pity: they may have agency with each step, but they’re all pawns in a game that’s indefinitely rigged.

Article continues after ad

The Long Walk isn’t for the faint of heart

Lionsgate

King asserted that there was no point in making The Long Walk if it wasn’t true to the brutality of the book. Lawrence never hesitates in showcasing its horrors, nor is it gratuitous; when you see a young boy’s face get splattered over the ground, it’s a clear, present, and anxiety-inducing danger.

Article continues after ad

The movie doesn’t shy away from your inevitable questions, either, whether it’s one guy sacrificing his speed to take a sh*t, sleepwalking, or shoes giving in to the extraordinary distance. It’s a thoroughly thought-out piece of storytelling in every regard, and the character work is second to none.

Hoffman and Jonsson are sensational, two leading men with immediate chemistry; in an instant, you’ll be thinking, “They’re my boys.” Their presence is reminiscent of Stand By Me’s Gordie and Chris; not in the dynamic (both are self-assured and commanding in their own ways), but in how lived-in and honest their friendship seems as the nightmare darkens. These are two natural, but hugely charismatic performances – make them (even bigger) stars.

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

Similar praise could be given to the supporting cast (Tut Nyuot’s Arthur is another standout), and credit is due for both King and Mollner: it’s hard to think of another movie where young men have been this aptly written (sorry to cite Stand By Me again, but it’s the strongest comparison). It’s not a spoiler to say many of them die, but there’s not a single death that feels inconsequential: each one is absolutely heartwrenching. I cried multiple times. I could cry just thinking about those who “get their ticket.”

The Long Walk is the peak of Francis Lawrence’s career

Lionsgate

It’s no small compliment to say this is the best movie Lawrence has ever directed. Catching Fire is revered by many as the best Hunger Games film (because it is), and Constantine and I Am Legend are underrated.

Article continues after ad

There’s not one component here that’s out of place; each performance is perfectly pitched, its blocking and “moment to moment” sequencing is sublime, and he shows restraint where it matters (a tiny bit more detail about the wider world would have been good). Also, it has an elite title card drop.

Article continues after ad

The cinematography, courtesy of Jo Willems (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night, and Catching Fire), is grim and beautiful; some images are hard to shake, others briefly numb the barbarity. It’s a little reductive and broad to say this, but even when its palette is as dreary as the clouds above the boys, it looks like a real film, not an exercise in plot.

Article continues after ad

A special shoutout to composer Jeremiah Fraites (who’s part of The Lumineers), whose first film score is sophisticated and emotive. It’s almost Moby-like in some scenes, but it’s diverse, capable of ramping up suspense and leaning into his folk sensibilities in more tender, quiet moments.

The Long Walk score: 5/5

Harrowing, heartbreaking, and near-flawless, The Long Walk is one of the greatest Stephen King adaptations ever made; walk – nay, run – to watch it as soon as possible. This is an all-timer.

Article continues after ad

The Long Walk hits cinemas on September 12. Until then, check out our list of the best horror movies ever made and what else is dropping this year with our 2025 movie calendar.

Resident Evil Movie Director Says It “Lives In The World” Of These Specific Games

by admin September 3, 2025

After making the successful horror movies Barbarian and Weapons, writer-director Zach Cregger is directing a Resident Evil movie next. He’s now shared more details about it, including why he decided to adapt a story instead of making another original film.

Speaking to Double Toasted, Cregger said he believes his Resident Evil movie is, in fact, “original,” and viewers will understand that when they see it. He didn’t elaborate on this point, however.

Cregger also said he has never seen any of the half-dozen live-action Resident Evil movies from Paul W.S. Anderson that came before his. “I’ve never seen a Resident Evil movie. If there are people out there who are rabid fans of the movie franchise, they are probably not really prepared for what I am going to be doing. But I think fans of the games are going to be stoked,” he said.

Also in the interview, Cregger said his Resident Evil movie will be “true to the experience” of the video games, and probably “lives in the world” of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but that it adheres more to the tone of Resident Evil 4.

The Resident Evil movie is slated for release in September 2026. Official casting announcements have not been made, but Weapons actor Austin Abrams may appear in it.

Paramount And Activision Strike Deal To Make Call Of Duty Movie

by admin September 3, 2025

In the latest “Can’t believe this hasn’t already happened” installment of news, a Call of Duty film is in the works. Paramount, the movie and television studio behind Top Gun: Maverick, Halo, and more, announced today that it struck a deal with Call of Duty publisher Activision to produce a live-action feature-length film.

“Under this milestone partnership, Paramount will develop, produce, and distribute a live-action feature film based on Call of Duty, designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences,” a press release reads. “Both companies are committed to honoring the brand’s rich narrative and distinctive style, promising an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

Activision president Rob Kostich writes in the press release that this movie will “honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place” to create an “unforgettable blockbuster movie.” Paramount CEO and chairman David Ellison writes, “We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve.”

There’s no word on which direction this film adaptation of Call of Duty will take, but considering the game series has featured campaigns set during World War 2, the Vietnam War, riffs on the War on Terrorism, as well as fictional modern war campaigns, and stories set in the near future and far future, too, Paramount has plenty to work with.

While waiting to learn more about this movie, check out Game Informer’s preview of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and then check out the cinematic reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which launches on November 14.
